Acts - Chapter: 19

>
19:1And it came to passe, that while Apollos was at Corinth, Paul hauing passed thorow the vpper coasts, came to Ephesus, and finding certaine disciples,
19:2He said vnto them, Haue ye receiued the holy Ghost since yee beleeued? And they saide vnto him, Wee haue not so much as heard whether there be any holy Ghost.
19:3And he said vnto them, Unto what then were ye baptized? And they saide, Unto Iohns Baptisme.
19:4Then saide Paul, Iohn verely baptized with the baptisme of repentance, saying vnto the people, that they should beleeue on him which should come after him, that is, on Christ Iesus.
19:5When they heard this, they were baptized in the Name of the Lord Iesus.
19:6And when Paul had laide his hands vpon them, the holy Ghost came on them, and they spake with tongues, and prophecied.
19:7And all ye men were about twelue.
19:8And hee went into the Synagogue, and spake boldly for the space of three moneths, disputing and perswading the things concerning the Kingdome of God.
19:9But when diuers were hardened, and beleeued not, but spake euill of that way before the multitude, he departed from them, and separated the disciples, disputing daily in the schoole of one Tyrannus.
19:10And this continued by the space of two yeeres, so that all they which dwelt in Asia, heard the word of the Lord Iesus, both Iewes and Greeks.
19:11And God wrought speciall miracles by the hands of Paul:
19:12So that from his body were brought vnto the sicke handkerchiefs or aprons, and the diseases departed from them, and the euill spirits went out of them.
19:13Then certaine of the vagabond Iewes, exorcistes, tooke vpon them to call ouer them which had euill spirits, the Name of the Lord Iesus, saying, We adiure you by Iesus whom Paul preacheth.
19:14And there were seuen sonnes of one Sceua a Iewe, and chiefe of the Priests, which did so.
19:15And the euill spirit answered, and said, Iesus I knowe, and Paul I know, but who are ye?
19:16And the man in whom the euill spirit was, leapt on them, and ouercame them, and preuailed against them, so that they fled out of that house naked and wounded.
19:17And this was knowen to all the Iewes and Greekes also dwelling at Ephesus, and feare fell on them all, and the Name of the Lord Iesus was magnified.
19:18And many that beleeued came, and confessed, and shewed their deedes.
19:19Many also of them which vsed curious arts, brought their bookes together and burned them before all men: and they counted the price of them, and found it fifty thousand pieces of siluer.
19:20So mightily grew the word of God, and preuailed.
19:21After these things were ended, Paul purposed in the spirit, when hee had passed thorow Macedonia and Athaia, to go to Hierusalem, saying, After I haue bin there, I must also see Rome.
19:22So hee sent into Macedonia two of them that ministred vnto him, Timotheus and Erastus, but he himselfe stayed in Asia for a season.
19:23And the same time there arose no small stirre about that way.
19:24For a certaine man named Demetrius, a siluer smith, which made siluer shrines for Diana, brought no small gaine vnto the craftsmen:
19:25Whom he called together, with the workemen of like occupation, and said, Sirs, ye know that by this craft we haue our wealth.
19:26Moreouer, ye see & heare, that not alone at Ephesus, but almost throughout all Asia, this Paul hath perswaded and turned away much people, saying, that they bee no gods, which are made with hands.
19:27So that not only this our craft is in danger to be set at nought: but also that the Temple of the great goddesse Diana should be despised, and her magnificence should be destroyed, whom all Asia, and the world worshippeth.
19:28And when they heard these sayings, they were ful of wrath, & cried out, saying, Great is Diana of ye Ephesians.
19:29And the whole citie was filled with confusion, and hauing caught Gaius and Aristarchus men of Macedonia Pauls companions in trauaile, they rushed with one accord into the Theatre.
19:30And when Paul would haue entred in vnto the people, the disciples suffered him not.
19:31And certaine of the chiefe of Asia, which were his friends, sent vnto him, desiring him that he would not aduenture himselfe into the Theatre.
19:32Some therefore cried one thing, and some another: for the assembly was confused, and the more part knew not wherefore they were come together.
19:33And they drew Alexander out of the multitude, the Iewes putting him forward. And Alexander beckened with the hand, and would haue made his defence vnto the people.
19:34But when they knew that he was a Iewe, all with one voyce about the space of two houres cried out, Great is Diana of the Ephesians.
19:35And when the towne clarke had appeased the people, he said, Ye men of Ephesus, what man is there that knoweth not how that the citie of the Ephesians is a worshipper of the great goddesse Diana, and of the image which fell downe from Iupiter?
19:36Seeing then that these things cannot be spoken against, ye ought to be quiet, and to doe nothing rashly.
19:37For ye haue brought hither these men, which are neither robbers of Churches, nor yet blasphemers of your goddesse:
19:38Wherefore if Demetrius, and the craftesmen which are with him, haue a matter against any man, the law is open, and there are deputies, let them implead one another.
19:39But if yee enquire any thing concerning other matters, it shalbe determined in a lawfull assembly.
19:40For we are in danger to be called in question for this dayes vprore, there being no cause whereby we may giue an accompt of this concourse.
19:41And when hee had thus spoken, he dismissed the assembly.

19:1And it came to passe, yt whyle Apollo was at Corinth, Paul passed through the vpper coastes, and came to Ephesus, and founde certaine disciples,
19:2And sayde vnto them: Haue ye receaued the holy ghost sence ye beleued? And they saide vnto hym: We haue not hearde whether there be any holy ghost or no.
19:3And he sayde vnto them: Unto what then were ye baptized? And they sayde: vnto Iohns baptisme.
19:4Then sayde Paul: Iohn veryly baptized with the baptisme of repentaunce, saying vnto the people, that they should beleue on hym which shoulde come after hym, that is, on Christe Iesus.
19:5When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lorde Iesu.
19:6And whe Paul had layde his handes vpon them, the holy ghost came on the, and they spake with tongues, and prophesied.
19:7And all the men were about twelue.
19:8And he went into the synagogue, and spake boldlye for the space of three monethes, disputyng & perswadyng those thynges that appertayne to the kyngdome of God.
19:9But when diuers waxed harde hearted, and beleued not, but spake euyll of the way [of the Lorde) and that before the multitude, he departed from them, & seperated ye disciples. And he disputed dayly in the scoole of one called Tyrannus.
19:10And this continued by the space of two yeres, so that all they whiche dwelt in Asia, hearde the worde of the Lord Iesu, both Iewes and Grekes.
19:11And God wrought speciall miracles by the handes of Paul.
19:12So that from his body, were brought vnto the sicke, napkins, and partlettes, and the diseases departed from them, & the euyll spirites went out of them.
19:13Then certaine of the vagabounde Iewes, exorcistes, toke vpon them to call ouer them which had euyll spirites, the name of the Lorde Iesus, saying: We adiure you by Iesus, whom Paul preacheth.
19:14And there were seuen sonnes of one Sceua a Iewe, and chiefe of ye priestes, which dyd so.
19:15And the euyll spirite aunswered, and sayde, Iesus I knowe, and Paul I knowe: but who are ye?
19:16And the man in whom the euyll spirite was, ran on them, & ouercame the, & preuayled agaynst them, so that they fled out of that house naked & wouded.
19:17And this was knowen to all ye Iewes & Grekes also which dwelt at Ephesus, and feare came on them all, & the name of the Lorde Iesus was magnified.
19:18And many that beleued, came & confessed, and shewed their workes.
19:19Many also of the whiche vsed curious craftes, brought their bookes, & burned them before all men, and they counted the price of them, & founde it fiftie thousande peeces of syluer.
19:20So myghtyly grew the word of God, and preuayled.
19:21After these thinges were ended, Paul purposed in the spirite, when he had passed ouer Macedonia and Achaia, to go to Hierusalem, saying: After I haue ben there, I must also see Rome.
19:22So sent he into Macedonia two of them that ministred vnto hym, Timotheus and Erastus, but he hym selfe remayned in Asia for a season.
19:23And the same time there arose no litle a do about that way.
19:24For a certaine man, named Demetrius, a syluer smyth, which made shrines for Diana, was not a litle beneficiall vnto the craftes men.
19:25Whom he called together, with the workemen of like occupation, and sayde: Sirs, ye knowe that by this craft we haue aduauntage.
19:26Moreouer, ye see and heare, that not alone at Ephesus, but almost throughout all Asia, this Paul hath perswaded and turned away much people, saying that they be not gods which are made with handes.
19:27So that not only this our craft commeth into peryll to be set at naught, but also that the temple of ye great goddesse Diana should be despised, and her magnificence should be destroyed, whom all Asia and the worlde worshippeth.
19:28And when they hearde these sayinges, they were full of wrath, and cryed out, saying: great is Diana of ye Ephesians.
19:29And all the citie was on a rore, & they russhed into the common hall with one assent, and caught Gaius & Aristarcus, men of Macedonia, Paules companions.
19:30When Paule woulde haue entred in vnto ye people, the disciples suffred hym not.
19:31But certaine of ye chiefe of Asia, which were his friendes, sent vnto hym, desiryng hym that he would not preasse into the common hall.
19:32Some therfore cryed one thyng, and some another, and the assemblie was all out of quiet, and the more part knew not wherfore they were come together.
19:33And they drewe Alexander out of the multitude, the Iewes thrustyng hym forwardes. And Alexander beckened with the hande, and would haue geuen the people an aunswere.
19:34But when they knewe that he was a Iewe, there arose a shoute almost for the space of two houres, of all men, crying: great is Diana of the Ephesians.
19:35And when the towne clarke had pacified the people, he sayde: Ye men of Ephesus, what man is it that knoweth not how that the citie of the Ephesians is a worshipper of the great goddesse Diana, and of the [image] whiche came downe from Iupiter?
19:36Seing then that these thinges can not be spoken against, ye ought to be contet, and to do nothyng rasshely.
19:37For ye haue brought hyther these men, which are neither robbers of Churches nor yet despisers of your goddesse.
19:38Wherfore, yf Demetrius & the craftes men which are with hym, haue a matter agaynst any man, the lawe is open, and there are deputies, let them accuse one another.
19:39But yf ye inquire any thyng concernyng other matters, it shalbe determined in a lawfull assemblie.
19:40For we are in ieopardie to be accused of this dayes vprore, forasmuch as there is no cause, wherby we may geue a reckenyng of this concourse of people.
19:41And when he had thus spoken, he let the assemblie depart.

19:1And it came to passe, while Apollos was at Corinthus, that Paul when he passed thorow the vpper coasts, came to Ephesus, and found certaine disciples,
19:2And saide vnto them, Haue ye receiued the holy Ghost since ye beleeued? And they saide vnto him, Wee haue not so much as heard whether there be an holy Ghost.
19:3And he said vnto them, Vnto what were ye then baptized? And they saide, Vnto Iohns baptisme.
19:4Then saide Paul, Iohn verely baptized with the baptisme of repentance, saying vnto the people, that they shoulde beleeue in him, which should come after him, that is, in Christ Iesus.
19:5And when they heard it, they were baptized in the Name of the Lord Iesus.
19:6So Paul layde his handes vpon them, and the holy Ghost came on them, and they spake the tongues, and prophecied.
19:7And all the men were about twelue.
19:8Moreouer he went into the Synagogue, and spake boldly for the space of three moneths, disputing and exhorting to the things that appertaine to the kingdome of God.
19:9But when certaine were hardened, and disobeyed, speaking euill of the way of God before the multitude, hee departed from them, and separated the disciples, and disputed dayly in the schoole of one Tyrannus.
19:10And this was done by the space of two yeeres, so that all they which dwelt in Asia, heard the word of ye Lord Iesus, both Iewes and Grecians.
19:11And God wrought no small miracles by the handes of Paul,
19:12So that from his body were brought vnto the sicke, kerchefs or handkerchefs, and the diseases departed from them, and the euill spirits went out of them.
19:13Then certaine of the vagabond Iewes, exorcistes, tooke in hand to name ouer them which had euil spirits, the Name of the Lord Iesus, saying, We adiure you by Iesus, whom Paul preacheth.
19:14(And there were certaine sonnes of Sceua a Iewe, the Priest, about seuen which did this)
19:15And the euil spirit answered, and said, Iesus I acknowledge, and Paul I know: but who are ye?
19:16And the man in whome the euil spirit was, ranne on them, and ouercame them, and preuailed against them, so that they fledde out of that house, naked, and wounded.
19:17And this was knowen to all the Iewes and Grecians also, which dwelt at Ephesus, and feare came on them all, and the Name of the Lord Iesus was magnified,
19:18And many that beleeued, came and confessed, and shewed their workes.
19:19Many also of them which vsed curious artes, brought their bookes, and burned them before all men: and they counted the price of them, and found it fiftie thousand pieces of siluer.
19:20So the worde of God grewe mightily, and preuailed.
19:21Nowe when these things were accomplished, Paul purposed by the Spirite to passe through Macedonia and Achaia, and to goe to Hierusalem, saying, After I haue bene there, I must also see Rome.
19:22So sent hee into Macedonia two of them that ministred vnto him, Timotheus and Erastus, but he remained in Asia for a season.
19:23And the same time there arose no small trouble about that way.
19:24For a certaine man named Demetrius a siluersmith, which made siluer temples of Diana, brought great gaines vnto the craftesmen,
19:25Whom he called together, with the workemen of like things, and saide, Syrs, ye knowe that by this craft we haue our goods:
19:26Moreouer ye see and heare, that not alone at Ephesus, but almost throughout all Asia this Paul hath perswaded, and turned away much people, saying, That they be not gods which are made with handes.
19:27So that not onely this thing is dangerous vnto vs, that this our portion shall be reproued, but also that the temple of the great goddesse Diana should be nothing esteemed, and that it would come to passe that her magnificence, which all Asia and the world worshippeth, should be destroyed.
19:28Now when they heard it, they were full of wrath, and cried out, saying, Great is Diana of the Ephesians.
19:29And the whole citie was full of confusion, and they rushed into the common place with one assent, and caught Gaius, and Aristarchus, men of Macedonia, and Pauls companions of his iourney.
19:30And when Paul would haue entred in vnto the people, the disciples suffred him not.
19:31Certaine also of the chiefe of Asia which were his friendes, sent vnto him, desiring him that hee woulde not present him selfe in the Common place.
19:32Some therefore cried one thing, and some another: for the assemblie was out of order, and the more part knewe not wherefore they were come together.
19:33And some of the company drew foorth Alexander, the Iewes thrusting him forwards. Alexander then beckened with the hande, and woulde haue excused the matter to the people.
19:34But when they knew that he was a Iewe, there arose a shoute almost for the space of two houres, of all men crying, Great is Diana of the Ephesians.
19:35Then the towne clearke when hee had stayed the people, saide, Ye men of Ephesus, what man is it that knoweth not howe that the citie of the Ephesians is a worshipper of the great goddesse Diana, and of the image, which came downe from Iupiter?
19:36Seeing then that no man can speake against these things, ye ought to be appeased, and to doe nothing rashly.
19:37For yee haue brought hither these men, which haue neither committed sacrilege, neither doe blaspheme your goddesse.
19:38Wherefore, if Demetrius and the craftes men which are with him, haue a matter against any man, the lawe is open, and there are Deputies: let them accuse one another.
19:39But if ye inquire any thing cocerning other matters, it may be determined in a lawful assembly.
19:40For we are euen in ieopardie to be accused of this dayes sedition, for as much as there is no cause, whereby we may giue a reason of this concourse of people.
19:41And when he had thus spoken, hee let the assembly depart.
