19:1	And it happened, while Apollos was at Corinth, that Paul, having passed through the upper regions, came to Ephesus. And finding certain disciples
19:2	he said to them, "Have you received the Holy Spirit since you believed?" But they said to him, "We have not so much as heard whether there is a Holy Spirit."
19:3	And he said to them, "Into what then were you baptized?" And they said, "Into John's baptism."
19:4	Then Paul said, "John indeed baptized with a baptism of repentance, saying to the people that they should believe on Him who would come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus."
19:5	When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.
19:6	And when Paul had laid his hands on them, the Holy Spirit came upon them, and they spoke with tongues and prophesied.
19:7	Now the men were about twelve in all.
19:8	And he went into the synagogue and spoke boldly for the space of three months, disputing and persuading the things concerning the kingdom of God.
19:9	But when some were hardened and did not believe, but spoke evil of the Way before the crowd, he departed from them and withdrew the disciples, reasoning daily in the school of one Tyrannus.
19:10	And this continued for the space of two years, so that all those who dwelt in Asia heard the word of the Lord Jesus, both Jews and Greeks.
19:11	Now God worked unusual miracles by the hands of Paul,
19:12	so that handkerchiefs or aprons were brought from his body to the sick, and the diseases left them and the evil spirits went out of them.
19:13	Then some of the itinerant Jewish exorcists took it upon themselves to call the name of the Lord Jesus over those who had evil spirits, saying, "We exorcise you by Jesus whom Paul preaches."
19:14	And there were seven sons of one Sceva, a Jew and chief priest, who did so.
19:15	And the evil spirit replied and said, "Jesus I know, and Paul I know; but who are you?"
19:16	Then the man in whom the evil spirit was leaped on them, overpowered them, and prevailed against them, so that they fled out of that house naked and wounded.
19:17	This became known both to all Jews and Greeks dwelling in Ephesus; and fear fell on them all, and the name of the Lord Jesus was magnified.
19:18	And many who had believed came confessing and telling their deeds.
19:19	Also, many of those who had practiced magic brought their books together and burned them in the sight of everyone. And they counted up the value of them, and it totaled fifty thousand pieces of silver.
19:20	So the word of God grew mightily and prevailed.
19:21	When these things were accomplished, Paul purposed in the Spirit, when he had passed through Macedonia and Achaia, to go to Jerusalem, saying, "After I have been there, I must also see Rome."
19:22	So he sent into Macedonia two of those who ministered to him, Timothy and Erastus, but he himself stayed in Asia for a season.
19:23	And about that time there arose no small commotion about the Way.
19:24	Because, a certain man named Demetrius, a silversmith, who made silver shrines of Diana, brought no small profit to the craftsmen,
19:25	whom he called together with the workers of similar occupation, and said: "Men, you know that we have our wealth by this trade.
19:26	Moreover you see and hear that not only at Ephesus, but throughout almost all Asia, this Paul has persuaded and turned away many people, saying that they are not gods which are made with hands.
19:27	So that not only is this trade of ours in danger of becoming disgraced, but also the temple of the great goddess Diana may be despised and her magnificence shall be destroyed, whom all Asia and the world worship."
19:28	Now when they heard these words, they were full of wrath and shouted out, saying, "Great is Diana of the Ephesians!"
19:29	So the entire city was filled with confusion, and having seized Gaius and Aristarchus, Macedonians, Paul's travel companions, they rushed into the theater with one accord.
19:30	And when Paul wanted to go in to the people, the disciples would not allow him.
19:31	Then some of the officials of Asia, who were his friends, sent to him begging him that he himself would not venture into the theater.
19:32	Some therefore shouted one thing and some another, because the assembly was confused, and most of them did not know why they had come together.
19:33	And they drew Alexander out of the crowd, the Jews putting him forward. And Alexander motioned with his hand, and wanted to make his defense to the people.
19:34	But when they found out that he was a Jew, all with one voice shouted out for about the space of two hours, "Great is Diana of the Ephesians!"
19:35	And when the city clerk had quieted the crowd, he said: "You men of Ephesus, what man is there who does not know that the city of the Ephesians is a worshipper of the great goddess Diana, and of the image which fell down from Jupiter?
19:36	Therefore, since these things cannot be denied, you ought to be quiet and do nothing rashly.
19:37	Because, you have brought these men here who are neither robbers of temples nor blasphemers of your goddess.
19:38	Therefore, if Demetrius and his fellow craftsmen who are with him, have a case against anyone, the courts are open and there are proconsuls. Let them bring charges against one another.
19:39	But if you have inquire anything concerning other matters, it should be determined in the lawful assembly.
19:40	Because, we are in danger of being called in question for today's uproar, there being no reason which we may give to account for this commotion."
19:41	And when he had said these things, he dismissed the assembly.

19:2	And saide vnto them, Haue ye receiued the holy Ghost since ye beleeued? And they saide vnto him, Wee haue not so much as heard whether there be an holy Ghost.
19:3	And he said vnto them, Vnto what were ye then baptized? And they saide, Vnto Iohns baptisme.
19:4	Then saide Paul, Iohn verely baptized with the baptisme of repentance, saying vnto the people, that they shoulde beleeue in him, which should come after him, that is, in Christ Iesus.
19:5	And when they heard it, they were baptized in the Name of the Lord Iesus.
19:6	So Paul layde his handes vpon them, and the holy Ghost came on them, and they spake the tongues, and prophecied.
19:7	And all the men were about twelue.
19:8	Moreouer he went into the Synagogue, and spake boldly for the space of three moneths, disputing and exhorting to the things that appertaine to the kingdome of God.
19:9	But when certaine were hardened, and disobeyed, speaking euill of the way of God before the multitude, hee departed from them, and separated the disciples, and disputed dayly in the schoole of one Tyrannus.
19:10	And this was done by the space of two yeeres, so that all they which dwelt in Asia, heard the word of ye Lord Iesus, both Iewes and Grecians.
19:11	And God wrought no small miracles by the handes of Paul,
19:12	So that from his body were brought vnto the sicke, kerchefs or handkerchefs, and the diseases departed from them, and the euill spirits went out of them.
19:13	Then certaine of the vagabond Iewes, exorcistes, tooke in hand to name ouer them which had euil spirits, the Name of the Lord Iesus, saying, We adiure you by Iesus, whom Paul preacheth.
19:14	(And there were certaine sonnes of Sceua a Iewe, the Priest, about seuen which did this)
19:15	And the euil spirit answered, and said, Iesus I acknowledge, and Paul I know: but who are ye?
19:16	And the man in whome the euil spirit was, ranne on them, and ouercame them, and preuailed against them, so that they fledde out of that house, naked, and wounded.
19:17	And this was knowen to all the Iewes and Grecians also, which dwelt at Ephesus, and feare came on them all, and the Name of the Lord Iesus was magnified,
19:18	And many that beleeued, came and confessed, and shewed their workes.
19:19	Many also of them which vsed curious artes, brought their bookes, and burned them before all men: and they counted the price of them, and found it fiftie thousand pieces of siluer.
19:20	So the worde of God grewe mightily, and preuailed.
19:21	Nowe when these things were accomplished, Paul purposed by the Spirite to passe through Macedonia and Achaia, and to goe to Hierusalem, saying, After I haue bene there, I must also see Rome.
19:22	So sent hee into Macedonia two of them that ministred vnto him, Timotheus and Erastus, but he remained in Asia for a season.
19:23	And the same time there arose no small trouble about that way.
19:24	For a certaine man named Demetrius a siluersmith, which made siluer temples of Diana, brought great gaines vnto the craftesmen,
19:25	Whom he called together, with the workemen of like things, and saide, Syrs, ye knowe that by this craft we haue our goods:
19:26	Moreouer ye see and heare, that not alone at Ephesus, but almost throughout all Asia this Paul hath perswaded, and turned away much people, saying, That they be not gods which are made with handes.
19:27	So that not onely this thing is dangerous vnto vs, that this our portion shall be reproued, but also that the temple of the great goddesse Diana should be nothing esteemed, and that it would come to passe that her magnificence, which all Asia and the world worshippeth, should be destroyed.
19:28	Now when they heard it, they were full of wrath, and cried out, saying, Great is Diana of the Ephesians.
19:29	And the whole citie was full of confusion, and they rushed into the common place with one assent, and caught Gaius, and Aristarchus, men of Macedonia, and Pauls companions of his iourney.
19:30	And when Paul would haue entred in vnto the people, the disciples suffred him not.
19:31	Certaine also of the chiefe of Asia which were his friendes, sent vnto him, desiring him that hee woulde not present him selfe in the Common place.
19:32	Some therefore cried one thing, and some another: for the assemblie was out of order, and the more part knewe not wherefore they were come together.
19:33	And some of the company drew foorth Alexander, the Iewes thrusting him forwards. Alexander then beckened with the hande, and woulde haue excused the matter to the people.
19:34	But when they knew that he was a Iewe, there arose a shoute almost for the space of two houres, of all men crying, Great is Diana of the Ephesians.
19:35	Then the towne clearke when hee had stayed the people, saide, Ye men of Ephesus, what man is it that knoweth not howe that the citie of the Ephesians is a worshipper of the great goddesse Diana, and of the image, which came downe from Iupiter?
19:36	Seeing then that no man can speake against these things, ye ought to be appeased, and to doe nothing rashly.
19:37	For yee haue brought hither these men, which haue neither committed sacrilege, neither doe blaspheme your goddesse.
19:38	Wherefore, if Demetrius and the craftes men which are with him, haue a matter against any man, the lawe is open, and there are Deputies: let them accuse one another.
19:39	But if ye inquire any thing cocerning other matters, it may be determined in a lawful assembly.
19:40	For we are euen in ieopardie to be accused of this dayes sedition, for as much as there is no cause, whereby we may giue a reason of this concourse of people.
19:41	And when he had thus spoken, hee let the assembly depart.


19:1	It fortuned whyll Appollo was at Corinthum that Paul passed thorow the vpper costes and came to Ephesus and foude certayne disciples
19:2	and sayd vnto them: have ye receaved the holy gost sence ye beleved? And they sayde vnto him: no we have not hearde whether ther be eny holy goost or no.
19:3	And he sayd vnto them: wher wt were ye then baptised? And they sayd: with Iohns baptim
19:4	Then sayde Paul: Iohn verely bapiised with the baptim of repentaunce sayinge vnto the people that they shuld beleve on him which shuld come after him: that is on Christ Iesus.
19:5	When they hearde that they were baptised in the name of the lorde Iesu.
19:6	And Paul layde his hondes apon them and the holy gost came on them and they spake with tonges and prophesied
19:7	and all the men were aboute .xii.
19:8	And he went into the synagoge and behaved him selfe boldely for the space of thre monethes disputynge and gevynge them exhortacions of the kyngdome of God.
19:9	When dyvers wexed harde herted and beleved not but spake evyll of the waye and that before the multitude: he departed from them and seperated the disciples. And disputed dayly in ye scole of one called Tyranus.
19:10	And this contynued by the space of two yeares: so yt all they which dwelt in Asia hearde the worde of the lorde Iesu bothe Iewes and Grekes.
19:11	And god wrought no small miracles by the hondes of Paul:
19:12	so that from his body were brought vnto the sicke napkyns or partlettes and the diseases departed from the and the evyll spretes went out of them.
19:13	Then certayne of the vagabounde Iewes exorcistes toke apon them to call over them which had evyll spretes the name of the lorde Iesus sayinge: We adiure you by Iesu who Paul preacheth.
19:14	And ther were seven sonnes of one Sceva a Iewe and chefe of the prestes which dyd so.
19:15	And the evyll sprete answered and sayde: Iesus I knowe and Paul I knowe: but who are ye?
19:16	And ye man in who the evyll sprete was ranne on the and overcame the and prevayled agaynst them so that they fledde out of that housse naked and wouded.
19:17	And this was knowen to all ye Iewes and Grekes also which dwelt at Ephesus and feare came on them all and they magnified the name of ye lorde Iesus.
19:18	And many yt beleved came and confessed and shewed their workes.
19:19	Many of the which vsed curious craftes brought their bokes and burned the before all men and they counted the price of the and foude it fifty thousande silverlynges.
19:20	So myghtely grewe ye worde of god and prevayled.
19:21	After these thinges were ended Paul purposed in the sprete to passe over Macedonia and Achaia and to goo to Ierusalem saying: After I have bene there I must also se Rome.
19:22	So sent he into Macedonia two of the that ministred vnto him Timotheus and Erastus: but he him selfe remayned in Asia for a season.
19:23	The same tyme ther arose no lytell a do aboute that waye.
19:24	For a certayne man named Demetrius a silvermyth which made silver schrynes for Diana was not a lytell beneficiall vnto the craftes men.
19:25	Which he called to geder with the worke men of lyke occupacion and sayd: Syrs ye knowe that by this crafte we have vauntage.
19:26	Moreover ye se and heare that not alone at Ephesus but almost thorowe oute all Asia this Paul hath persuaded and turned awaye moche people saying yt they be not goddes which are made wt hondes.
19:27	So that not only this oure crafte cometh into parell to be set at nought: but also that ye temple of ye greate goddas Diana shuld be despysed and her magnificence shuld be destroyed which all Asia and the worlde worshippeth.
19:28	When they hearde these sayinges they were full of wrathe and cryed out saying: Greate is Diana of the Ephesians.
19:29	And all the cite was on a roore and they russhed in to the comen hall with one assent and caught Gayus and Aristarcus men of Macedonia Pauls companios.
19:30	When Paul wolde have entred in vnto the people ye disciples suffered him not.
19:31	Certayne also of ye chefe of Asia which were his frendes sent vnto him desyrynge him that he wolde not preace into the comen hall.
19:32	Some cryed one thinge and some another and the congregacion was all out of quiet and ye moare parte knewe not wherfore they were come togeder.
19:33	Some of the company drue forth Alexander the Iewes thrustynge him forwardes. Alexander beckened with the honde and wolde have geven ye people an answer.
19:34	When they knewe ye he was a Iewe ther arose a shoute almost for the space of two houres of all men cryinge greate is Diana of the Ephesians.
19:35	When the toune clarcke had ceased the people he sayd: ye men of Ephesus what man is it that knoweth not how that the cite of the Ephesians is a worshipper of the great goddas Diana and of ye ymage which came fro heven.
19:36	Seinge then yt no man sayth here agaynst ye ought to be content and to do nothinge rasshly:
19:37	For ye have brought hyther these me whiche are nether robbers of churches nor yet despisers of youre goddes.
19:38	Wherfore yf Demetrius and the craftes men which are wt him have eny sayinge to eny man the lawe is open and ther are ruelars let the accuse one another.
19:39	Yf ye goo about eny other thinge it maye be determined in a lawfull cogregacion
19:40	For we are in ieoperdy to be accused of this dayes busines: for as moche as ther is no cause wherby we maye geve a rekenynge of this concourse of people.
19:41	And when he had thus spoken he let the congregacion departe.
