28:1 | And when they were escaped, then they knew that the Iland was called Melita. |
28:2 | And the barbarous people shewed vs no little kindnesse: for they kindled a fire, and receiued vs euery one because of the present raine, and because of the cold. |
28:3 | And when Paul had gathered a bundle of stickes, and layde them on the fire, there came a Uiper out of the heat, and fastened on his hand. |
28:4 | And when the Barbarians saw the venomous beast hang on his hand, they saide among themselues, No doubt this man is a murtherer, whom though hee hath escaped the Sea, yet Uengeance suffereth not to liue. |
28:5 | And hee shooke off the beast into the fire, and felt no harme. |
28:6 | Howbeit, they looked when hee should haue swollen, or fallen downe dead suddenly: but after they had looked a great while, and saw no harme come to him, they changed their minds, and said that he was a God. |
28:7 | In the same quarters were possessions of the chiefe man of the Iland, whose name was Publius, who receiued vs, and lodged vs three dayes courteously. |
28:8 | And it came to passe that the father of Publius lay sicke of a feuer, and of a bloody-flixe, to whom Paul entred in, and prayed, and layed his hands on him, and healed him. |
28:9 | So when this was done, others also which had diseases in the Iland, came, and were healed: |
28:10 | Who also honoured vs with many honours, and when wee departed, they laded vs with such things as were necessary. |
28:11 | And after three moneths wee departed in a ship of Alexandria, which had wintered in the Ile, whose signe was Castor and Pollux. |
28:12 | And landing at Syracuse wee taried there three dayes. |
28:13 | And from thence wee fet a compasse, and came to Rhegium, and after one day the South winde blew, and we came the next day to Puteoli: |
28:14 | Where wee found brethren, and were desired to tary with them seuen dayes: and so we went toward Rome. |
28:15 | And from thence, when the brethren heard of vs, they came to meet vs as farre as Appii forum, and the three Tauernes: whom when Paul saw, he thanked God, and tooke courage. |
28:16 | And when we came to Rome, the Centurion deliuered the prisoners to the Captaine of the guard: but Paul was suffered to dwell by himselfe, with a souldier that kept him. |
28:17 | And it came to passe, that after three dayes, Paul called the chiefe of the Iewes together. And when they were come together, he said vnto them, Men and brethren, though I haue committed nothing against the people, or customes of our fathers, yet was I deliuered prisoner from Hierusalem into the hands of the Romanes. |
28:18 | Who when they had examined me, would haue let me goe, because there was no cause of death in me. |
28:19 | But when the Iewes spake against it, I was constrained to appeale vnto Cesar, not that I had ought to accuse my nation of. |
28:20 | For this cause therefore haue I called for you, to see you, and to speake with you: because that for the hope of Israel I am bound with this chaine. |
28:21 | And they saide vnto him, Wee neither receiued letters out of Iudea concerning thee, neither any of the brethren that came, shewed or spake any harme of thee. |
28:22 | But we desire to heare of thee what thou thinkest: for as concerning this sect, we know that euery where it is spoken against. |
28:23 | And when they had appointed him a day, there came many to him into his lodging, to whom he expounded and testified the kingdome of God, perswading them concerning Iesus, both out of the law of Moses, and out of the Prophets, from morning till euening. |
28:24 | And some beleeued the things which were spoken, and some beleeued not. |
28:25 | And when they agreed not among themselues, they departed, after that Paul had spoken one word, Well spake the holy Ghost by Esaias the Prophet, vnto our fathers, |
28:26 | Saying, Goe vnto this people, and say, Hearing ye shall heare, and shall not vnderstand, and seeing ye shall see, and not perceiue. |
28:27 | For the heart of this people is waxed grosse, and their eares are dull of hearing, and their eyes haue they closed, lest they should with their eyes, and heare with their eares, and vnderstand with their heart, and should bee conuerted, and I should heale them. |
28:28 | Be it knowen therfore vnto you, that the saluation of God is sent vnto the Gentiles, and that they wil heare it. |
28:29 | And when hee had saide these words, the Iewes departed, and had great reasoning among themselues. |
28:30 | And Paul dwelt two whole yeeres in his owne hired house, and receiued all that came in vnto him, |
28:31 | Preaching the kingdome of God, and teaching those things which concerne the Lord Iesus Christ, with all confidence, no man forbidding him. |

28:27 | For the heart of this people is waxed fatte, and their eares are dull of hearing, and with their eyes haue they winked, least they shoulde see with their eyes, and heare with their eares, and vnderstand with their heartes, and should returne that I might heale them. |
28:28 | Be it knowen therefore vnto you, that this saluation of God is sent to the Gentiles, and they shall heare it. |
28:29 | And when he had saide these things, the Iewes departed, and had great reasoning among themselues. |
28:30 | And Paul remained two yeeres full in an house hired for himselfe, and receiued all that came in vnto him, |
28:31 | Preaching the kingdome of God, and teaching those things which concerne the Lord Iesus Christ, with all boldnesse of speache, without let. |

28:6 | Howe be it they wayted when he should haue swolne or fallen doune dead sodenly. But after they had loked a greate whyle, and sawe no harme come come to him, they chaunged their mindes, and said that he was a God. |
28:7 | In the same quarters the chiefe man of the yle whose name was Publius had a lordeshyp: the same receiued vs, and lodged vs thre dayes courteouslye. |
28:8 | And it fortuned that the father of Publius laie sicke of a fieuer and of a blouddy flixe. To whom Paule entred in and prayed, and layed his handes on him, and healed him. |
28:9 | When this was done, other also which had dyseases in the yle came and were healed. |

28:14 | where we founde brethren, and were desired to tarye wyth them seuen daies, and so came to Rome. |
28:15 | And from thence, when the brethren hearde of vs, they came against vs to Apiphorum, and to the thre tauernes. When Paule sawe them, he thanked God, and waxed bold. |
28:16 | And when he came to Rome, the vndercaptaine deliuered the prisoners to the chiefe captaine of the host: but Paule was suffred to dwelle by him selfe with one souldier that kepte him. |
28:17 | And it fortuned after thre dayes that Paul called the chiefe of the Iewes together. And when they were come, he saide vnto them: Men and brethren though I haue committed nothinge againste the people or lawes of oure fathers: yet was I deliuered prisoner from Ierusalem into the handes of the Romaynes. |
28:18 | Whiche when they had examyned me, woulde haue let me go, because they found no cause of death in me. |
28:19 | But when the Iewes cryed contrary, I was constrayned to appeale to Cesar: not because I had ought to accuse my people of. |
28:20 | For thys cause haue I called for you, euen to se you, and to speake wyth you: because that for the hope of Israell, I am bounde wyth thys chayne. |
28:21 | And they saide vnto him: We neyther receiued letters out of Iewrye partaininge vnto the, neyther came any of the brethren that shewed or spake anye harme of the. |
28:22 | But we wyll heare of the what thou thynkest. For we haue hearde of this secte that euery where it is spoken agaynste. |
28:23 | And when they had appoynted him a daye, there came manye vnto him into hys lodgynge, to whom he expounded and testifyed the kingedome of God, and preached vnto them of Iesu: both out of the Prophetes, euen from morninge to nyghte. |
28:24 | And some beleued the thinges, whyche were spoken, and some beleued not. |
28:25 | When they agreed not amonge them selues, they departed, after that Paule had spoken one word: Welspake the holy ghoste by Esay the prophet vnto youre fathers, saiyng: go vnto thys people, |
28:26 | and saye: wyth youre eares shall ye heare, & shall not vnderstande: and wyth youre eies shal ye se and shall not perceiue. |
28:27 | For the hert of this people is waxed grosse and their eares were thicke of hearinge, and theyr eyes haue they closed: lest they should se with their eyes, and heare with their eares, and vnderstande with their hertes, and should be conuerted, and I should heale them. |
28:28 | Be it knowen therfore vnto you, that this saluation of God is sente to the gentyls, and they shall heare it. |
28:29 | And when he had sayed that, the Iewes departed, and had greate despicions among them selues. |
28:30 | And Paule dwelt two yeares full in his lodgynge, and receyued all that came to hym, |
28:31 | preaching those thynges, whyche concerned the Lorde Iesus wyth all confydence vnforboden. |
