Romans - Chapter: 3

>
3:1What preferment then hath the Iewe? or what aduauntageth circumcisyon?
3:2Surely verye moch. Fyrst because that vnto them were commytted the wordes of God.
3:3What then though some of them dyd not beleue? shall theyr vnbeleue make the promes of God without effecte?
3:4God forbyd Let God be true, and euery man a lyar, at it is wrytten: that thou myghtest be iustifyed in thy sayinges, and ouercome, when thou art iudged.
3:5But yf oure vnryghtewesnes make the ryghtewesnes of God more excellent: what shall we saye? Is God vnryghteous, which taketh vngeaunce? I speake after the maner of men:
3:6God forbyd. For how then shall God iudge the worlde?
3:7For yf the trueth of God appeare more excellent thorow my lye, vnto his prayse, why am I hence forth iudged as a synner:
3:8and not rather (as men speake euyll of vs, and as some affyrme that we saye) let vs do euyll, that good maye come therof. Whose damnacyon is iuste.
3:9What then? Are we better then they? No, in no wyse. For we haue all ready proued, how that both Iewes and Gentyls are all vnder synne,
3:10as it is wrytten. there is none ryghteous, no not one:
3:11there is none that vnderstandeth, there is none that seketh after God:
3:12they are all gone out of the waye, they are all vnprofytable, ther is none that doeth good, no not one.
3:13Theyr throte is an open sepulcre, with theyr tounges they haue disceaued: the poyson of aspes is vnder theyr lyppes.
3:14Whose mouth is full of curssynge and bytternes.
3:15Their fete are swyfte to shed bloud.
3:16Destruccyon and wretchednes are in theyr wayes,
3:17and the waye of peace haue they not knowen.
3:18There is no feare of God before theyr eyes.
3:19We knowe that what thynges soeuer the lawe sayth, it sayth it to them which are vnder the lawe. That all mouthes maye be stopped, & that all the worlde maye be subdued to God,
3:20because that by the dedes of the lawe ther shall no flesshe be iustifyed in hys syght. For by the lawe commeth the knowledge of sinne.
3:21But now is the ryghtewesnes of God declared wythout the lawe, for asmoch as it is alowed by the testimonye of the lawe and of the Prophetes.
3:22The ryghtewesnes of God, commeth by the fayth of Iesus Christ, vnto all and vpon all them that beleue. Ther is no dyfference:
3:23for all haue synned, and are destitute of the glorye of God:
3:24but are iustifyed frely by his grace, through the redempcyon that is in Christ Iesu,
3:25whom God hath set forth to be the obtayner of mercy thorow fayth, by the meanes of hys bloude, to declare hys ryghteousnes, in that he forgeueth the synnes that are passed, whych God dyd suffre,
3:26to shewe at thys tyme hys ryghtewesnes, that he might be counted iust, and the iustifyar of hym whych beleueth on Iesus.
3:27Where is then thy reioysynge? It is excluded. By what lawe? of workes? Naye: but by the lawe of fayth.
3:28Therfore we holde, that a man is iustifyed by fayth without the dedes of the lawe:
3:29Is he the God of the Iewes onely? Is he not also the God of the Gentyls? Yes, euen of the Gentyls also.
3:30For it is God only which iustifyeth the circumcisyon that is of fayth, and vncircumcisyon thorow fayth
3:31Do we then destroye the lawe thorow fayth? God forbyd. But we rather maintayne the lawe.

3:1What thanne is more to a Jew, or what profit of circumcisioun?
3:2Myche bi al wise; first, for the spekyngis of God `weren bitakun to hem.
3:3And what if summe of hem bileueden not? Whethir the vnbileue of hem hath auoidid the feith of God?
3:4God forbede. For God is sothefast, but ech man a liere; as it is writun, That thou be iustified in thi wordis, and ouercome, whanne thou art demed.
3:5But if oure wickidnesse comende the riytwisnesse of God, what shulen we seie? Whether God is wickid, that bryngith in wraththe?
3:6Aftir man Y seie. God forbede. Ellis hou schal God deme this world?
3:7For if the treuthe of God hath aboundid in my lessyng, in to the glorie of hym, what yit am Y demed as a synner?
3:8And not as we ben blasfemed, and as summen seien that we seien, Do we yuele thingis, that gode thingis come. Whos dampnacioun is iust.
3:9What thanne? Passen we hem? Nay; for we han schewid bi skile, that alle bothe Jewis and Grekis ben vndur synne,
3:10as it is writun, For ther is no man iust;
3:11ther is no man vndurstondynge, nethir sekynge God.
3:12Alle bowiden a wey, togidere thei ben maad vnprofitable; ther is noon that doith good thing, there is noon `til to oon.
3:13The throte of hem is an opyn sepulcre; with her tungis thei diden gilefuli; the venym of snakis is vndur her lippis.
3:14The mouth of whiche is ful of cursyng and bitternesse;
3:15the feet of hem ben swifte to schede blood.
3:16Sorewe and cursidnesse ben in the weies of hem, and thei knewen not the weie of pees;
3:1717">
3:18the drede of God is not bifor her iyen.
3:19And we witen, that what euere thingis the lawe spekith, it spekith to hem that ben in the lawe, that ech mouth be stoppid, and ech world be maad suget to God.
3:20For of the werkis of the lawe ech fleisch schal not be iustified bifor hym; for bi the lawe ther is knowyng of synne.
3:21But now with outen the lawe the riytwisnesse of God is schewid, that is witnessid of the lawe and the profetis.
3:22And the riytwisnesse of God is bi the feith of Jhesu Crist in to alle men and on alle men that bileuen in hym; for ther is no departyng.
3:23For alle men synneden, and han nede to the glorie of God;
3:24and ben iustified freli bi his grace, bi the ayenbiyng that is in `Crist Jhesu.
3:25Whom God ordeynede foryyuer, bi feith in his blood, to the schewyng of his riytwisnesse, for remyssioun of biforgoynge synnes,
3:26in the beryng up of God, to the schewyng of his riytwisnesse in this tyme, that he be iust, and iustifyynge hym that is of the feith of Jhesu Crist.
3:27Where thanne is thi gloriyng? It is excludid. Bi what lawe? Of dedis doyng? Nay, but by the lawe of feith.
3:28For we demen a man to be iustified bi the feith, with outen werkis of the lawe.
3:29Whethir of Jewis is God oneli? Whether he is not also of hethene men? Yhis, and of hethene men.
3:30For `oon God is, that iustefieth circumcisioun bi feith, and prepucie bi feith.
3:31Distruye we therfor the lawe bi the feith? God forbede; but we stablischen the lawe.

3:1What furtheraunce then haue the Iewes? Or what avauntageth circucision?
3:2Surely very moch. First Vnto them was commytted what God spake.
3:3But where as some of them dyd not beleue theron, what then? Shulde their vnbeleue make the promes of God of none effecte?
3:4God forbyd. Let it rather be thus, that God is true, and all me lyers. As it is wrytten: That thou mayest be iustified in thy sayenges, and shuldest ouercome, wha thou art iudged.
3:5But yf it be so, that oure vnrighteousnes prayseth ye righteousnes of God, what shal we saye? Is God then vnrighteous, that he is angrie therfore? (I speake thus after the maner off men)
3:6God forbyd. How mighte God the iudge ye worlde?
3:7For yf the trueth of God be thorow my lye the more excellent vnto his prayse, why shulde I the be iudged yet as a synner?
3:8& not rather to do thus (as we are euell spoken of, and as some reporte, that we shulde saye) Let vs do euell, yt good maye come therof. Whose danacio is inste.
3:9What saye we then? Are we better then they? No, in no wyse: for we haue proued afore, yt both the Iewes and Grekes are all vnder synne.
3:10As it is wrytte: There is none righteous, no not one.
3:11There is none yt vnderstondeth, there is none that seketh after God.
3:12They are all gone out of the waye, they are alltogether become vnprofitable: there is none that doeth good, no not one.
3:13Their throte is an open sepulcre, with their tunges they haue disceaued, the poyson off Aspes is vnder their lippes.
3:14Their mouth is full of cursynge and bytternesse.
3:15Their fete are swifte to shed bloude.
3:16Destruccion & wrechidnes are in their wayes,
3:17and ye waye of peace haue they not knowne.
3:18There is no feare of God before their eyes.
3:19But we knowe, yt, what soeuer the lawe sayeth, it sayeth it vnto them which are vnder the lawe, yt euery mouthe maye be stopped, & yt all the worlde maye be detter vnto God,
3:20because yt by ye dedes of the lawe no flesh maye be iustified in his sighte. For by the lawe commeth but the knowlege of synne.
3:21But now without addinge to of ye lawe is the righteousnes which avayleth before God, declared, hauynge witnesse of ye lawe and the prophetes:
3:22but I speake of ye righteousnes before God, which cometh by the faith on Iesus Christ, vnto all, and vpo all them that beleue. For here is no difference.
3:23For they are all synners, and wate the prayse that God shulde haue of the,
3:24but without deseruynge are they made righteous eue by his grace, thorow the redempcion that is done by Christ Iesu,
3:25whom God hath set forth for a Mercyseate thorow faith in his bloude, to shewe the righteousnes which avayleth before him, in that he forgeueth the synnes, which were done before vnder the sufferaunce of God, which he suffred,
3:26that at this tyme he mighte shewe ye righteousnes which avayleth before him: yt he onely mighte be righteous, & the righteous maker of him which is of the faith on Iesus.
3:27Where is now then thy reioysinge? It is excluded. By what lawe? By the lawe of workes? Nay, but by the lawe of faith.
3:28We holde therfore that a man is iustified by faith, without the workes of the lawe.
3:29Or is God the God of the Iewes onely? Is he not also the God of the Heythen? Yes verely the God of the Heythen also,
3:30for so moch as he is the God onely that iustifieth the circumcision which is of faith, and the vncircucision thorow faith.
3:31Destroye we then the lawe thorow faith? God forbyd. But we mantayne the lawe.
