4:1What shall we saye then, that Abraham oure father as pertaynyng to the fleshe, dyd fynde?
4:2Yf Abraham were iustifyed by dedes, then hath he wherein to reioyce but not with god.
4:3For what sayth the scripture? Abraham beleued God, and it was counted vnto hym for ryghteousnes.
4:4To hym that worketh, is the rewarde not reckened of fauoure: but of dutye.
4:5To hym that worketh not, but beleueth on hym that iustifyeth the vngodly, is hys fayth counted for ryghteousnes.
4:6Euen as Dauid descrybeth the blessedfulnes of the man vnto whome God ascrybeth ryghteousnes withoute dedes.
4:7Blessed are they, whose vnryghteousnes are forgeuen, and whose synnes are couered.
4:8Blessed is that man to whome the Lord imputeth not synne.
4:9Came thys blessednes then vpon the circumcysed or vpon the vncircumcysed? We say verelye how that fayth was rekened to Abraham for ryghtuousnes.
4:10Howe was it rekened: in the tyme of circumcysyon? or in the tyme before he was circumcysed? Not in tyme of circumcisyon: but when he was yet vncircumcysed.
4:11And he receyued the sygne of circumcysyon, as a seale of the ryghtuousnes whiche is by fayth, whiche fayth he had yet beynge vncyrcumcysed: that he shoulde be the father of all them that beleue, thoughe they be not circumcysed, that ryghtuousnes myght be imputed to them also:
4:12and that he myghte be the father of the circumcysed, not because they are circumcysed only: but because they walke also in the steppes of that faythe that was in oure father Abraham before the tyme of circumcysyon.
4:13For the promes that he shoulde be the heyre of the worlde, was not geuen to Abraham or to hys sede thorowe the lawe: but thorow the ryghtuousnesse which commeth of fayth.
4:14For yf they whiche are of the lawe, be heyres, then is fayth but vayne, and the promes of none effecte.
4:15Because the lawe causeth wrath. For where no lawe is, there is no transgressyon.
4:16Therfore by fayth is the inheritaunce geuen, that it myght come of fauoure: and the promes myghte be sure to all the seed. Not to them onelye, which are of the lawe: but also to them whiche are of the fayth of Abraham, which is the father of vs all.
4:17As it is written: I haue made the a father to manye nacyons, euen before God whome thou haste beleued, whiche quickeneth the deade, and called those thinges whiche be not, as thoughe they were.
4:18Whiche Abraham contrary to hope, beleued in hope that he shoulde be the father of manye nacyons, accordynge to that whiche was spoken.
4:19So shall thy seed be. And he fainted not in the fayth, nor yet consydered hys owne bodye which was now dead, euen when he was almost an hondred year olde: neyther yet that Sara was past chylde bearynge.
4:20He stackered not at the promes of God thorowe vnbelefe: but was made stronge in the fayth and gaue honoure to God,
4:21full certifyed, that what he had promysed, that he was able to make good.
4:22And therfore was it reckened to hym for ryghteousnes.
4:23It is not wryten for hym only, that it was reckened for hym for ryghteousnes: but also rekened to hym for ryghtuousnes:
4:24but also for vs, to whom ye shalbe counted for rightuousnes, so we beleue on hym that raysed vp Iesus oure Lorde from death.
4:25Whiche was deliuered for oure synnes and rose agayne for to iustifye vs.

4:2For if Abraham were iustified by workes, he hath wherein to reioyce, but not with God.
4:3For what saith the Scripture? Abraham beleeued God, and it was counted to him for righteousnesse.
4:4Nowe to him that worketh, the wages is not counted by fauour, but by dette:
4:5But to him that worketh not, but beleeueth in him that iustifieth the vngodly, his faith is counted for righteousnesse.
4:6Euen as Dauid declareth the blessednesse of the man, vnto whom God imputeth righteousnes without workes, saying,
4:7Blessed are they, whose iniquities are forgiuen, and whose sinnes are couered.
4:8Blessed is the man, to whom the Lord imputeth not sinne.
4:9Came this blessednesse then vpon the circumcision onely, or vpon the vncircumcision also? For we say, that faith was imputed vnto Abraham for righteousnesse.
4:10Howe was it then imputed? when he was circumcised, or vncircumcised? not when he was cricumcised, but when he was vncircumcised.
4:11After, he receiued the signe of circumcision, as the seale of the righteousnesse of ye faith which he had, when he was vncircumcised, that he should be the father of all them that beleeue, not being circumcised, that righteousnesse might be imputed to them also,
4:12And the father of circumcision, not vnto them onely which are of the circumcision, but vnto them also that walke in the steppes of the faith of our father Abraham, which he had when he was vncircumcised.
4:13For the promise that he should be the heire of the worlde, was not giuen to Abraham, or to his seede, through the Lawe, but through the righteousnesse of faith.
4:14For if they which are of the Lawe, be heires, faith is made voide, and the promise is made of none effect.
4:15For the Lawe causeth wrath: for where no Lawe is, there is no transgression.
4:16Therefore it is by faith, that it might come by grace, and the promise might be sure to all the seede, not to that onely which is of the Lawe: but also to that which is of the faith of Abraham, who is the father of vs all,
4:17(As it is written, I haue made thee a father of many nations) euen before God whom he beleeued, who quickeneth the dead, and calleth those thinges which be not, as though they were.
4:18Which Abraham aboue hope, beleeued vnder hope, that he should be the father of many nations: according to that which was spoken to him, So shall thy seede be.
4:19And he not weake in the faith, considered not his owne bodie, which was nowe dead, being almost an hundreth yeere olde, neither the deadnes of Saraes wombe.
4:20Neither did he doubt of the promise of God through vnbeliefe, but was strengthened in the faith, and gaue glorie to God,
4:21Being fully assured that he which had promised, was also able to doe it.
4:22And therefore it was imputed to him for righteousnesse.
4:23Nowe it is not written for him onely, that it was imputed to him for righteousnesse,
4:24But also for vs, to whom it shalbe imputed for righteousnesse, which beleeue in him that raised vp Iesus our Lord from the dead,
4:25Who was deliuered to death for our sinnes, and is risen againe for our iustification.

4:6Euen as Dauid also describeth the blessednesse of the man, vnto whom God imputeth righteousnesse without works:
4:7Saying, Blessed are they whose iniquities are forgiuen, and whose sinnes are couered.
4:8Blessed is the man to whome the Lord will not impute sinne.
4:9Commeth this blessednes then vpon the circumcision onely, or vpon the vncircumcision also? for wee say that faith was reckoned to Abraham for righteousnesse.
4:10How was it then reckoned? when he was in circumcision, or in vncircumcision? not in circumcision, but in vncircumcision.
4:11And hee receiued the signe of circumcision, a seale of the righteousnesse of the faith, which hee had yet being vncircumcised: that he might be the father of all them that beleeue, though they be not circumcised; that righteousnesse might be imputed vnto them also:
4:12And the father of circumcision, to them who are not of the circumcision onely, but also walke in the steppes of that faith of our father Abraham, which he had being yet vncircumcised.
4:13For the promise that he should be the heire of the world, was not to Abraham, or to his seed through the Lawe, but through the righteousnesse of faith.
4:14For if they which are of the law be heires, faith is made voide, and the promise made of none effect.
4:15Because the law worketh wrath: for where no Lawe is, there is no transgression.
4:16Therefore it is of faith, that it might bee by grace; to the ende the promise might be sure to all the seede, not to that onely which is of the Law, but to that also which is of the faith of Abraham, who is the father of vs all,
4:17(As it is written, I haue made thee a father of many nations) before him whom he beleeued, euen God who quickeneth the dead, and calleth those things which bee not, as though they were,
4:18Who against hope, beleeued in hope, that hee might become the father of many nations: according to that which was spoken, So shall thy seede bee.
4:19And being not weake in faith, hee considered not his owne body now dead, when hee was about an hundred yere old, neither yet the deadnes of Saraes wombe.
4:20Hee staggered not at the promise of God through vnbeliefe: but was strong in faith, giuing glory to God:
4:21And being fully perswaded, that what he had promised, he was able also to performe.
4:22And therefore it was imputed to him for righteousnesse.
4:23Now it was not written for his sake alone, that it was imputed to him:
4:24But for vs also, to whome it shall bee imputed, if wee beleeue on him that raised vp Iesus our Lord from the dead,
4:25Who was deliuered for our offences, and was raised againe for our iustification.
