Ephesians - Chapter: 4

>
4:1I therfore (which am a presonner of the Lordes) exhorte you, that ye walke worthy of the vocacyon wherwith ye are called,
4:2with all lowlynes and mekenesse, with humblenes of mynde, forbearynge one another thorowe loue,
4:3and be diligent to kepe the vnitie of the sprete thorowe the bonde of peace,
4:4beynge one body, and one sprete, euen as ye are called in one hope of your callinge.
4:5One Lorde, one fayth, one baptyme
4:6one God and father of all, which is aboue all and thorowe all, and in you all.
4:7Unto euery one of vs is geuen grace, accordynge to the measure of the gyfte of Chryst.
4:8Wherfore he sayth: whan he went vp an hye, he ledde captiuitye captyue, and gaue gyftes vnto men.
4:9That he ascended: what meaneth it? but that he also descended fyrst into the lowest partes of the erth?
4:10He that descended, is euen the same also that ascended vp, aboue all heauens, to fulfyll all thynges.
4:11And the very same made some Apostles, some Prophetes, some Euangelistes, some Shepherdes and Teachers:
4:12to the edifyenge of the saynctes, to the worke and ministracyon, euen to the edifyinge of the body of Chryst,
4:13tyll we all come to the vnitye of fayth, and knowledge of the sonne of God, vnto a perfecte man, vnto the measure of the full perfecte age of Chryst
4:14That we hence forth shulde be nomore chyldren, wauerynge & caryed aboute with euery wynde of doctrine, by the wylynes of men, thorowe craftynes, wherby they laye a wayte for vs to deceaue vs.
4:15But let vs folowe the trueth in loue, and in all thynges growe in hym, which is the heed, euen Christ,
4:16in whom yf all the body be coupled and knet together thorow out euery ioynt wherwith one ministreth to another (accordynge to the operacyon as euery parte hath hys measure) he increaseth the body, vnto the edifyinge of it selfe thorowe loue.
4:17This I saye therfore, and testifye thorowe the Lorde, that ye hence forth walke not, as other Gentyls walke, in vanite of theyr minde,
4:18whyle they are blinded in their vnderstandynge, beynge farre from a godly lyfe, by the meanes of the ignorancy that is in them, and because of the blyndnes of their hertes:
4:19which beynge past repentaunce, haue geuen them selues ouer vnto wantannes, to worke all manner of vnclennes, euen with gredines.
4:20But ye haue not so learned Christ.
4:21If so be that ye haue hearde of him, and haue bene taught in him, as the trueth is in Iesu:
4:22(as concernynge the conuersacyon in tyme past) to laye from you that olde man, which is corrupte, accordynge to the deceauable lustes.
4:23To be renued also in the sprete of youre mynde,
4:24and to put on that newe man, which after God is shapen in ryghte wesnes and true holynes.
4:25Wherfore, put awaye lyinge, & speake euery man truth vnto his neyghboure, for as moche as we are members one of another.
4:26Be angrye, and synne not: let not the sunne go doune vpon youre wrath,
4:27nether geue place vnto the backbyter.
4:28Let hym that stole, steale nomore but let him rather laboure wt his handes the thynge which is good, that he maye geue vnto him that nedeth.
4:29Let no fylthy communicacion procede out of youre mouth: but that which is good to edifye wt all, as oft as nede is that it maye minister grace vnto the hearers.
4:30And greue not ye the holy sprete of God by whom ye are sealed vnto the daye of redempcyon.
4:31Let all bitternes & fearsnes & wrath & rorynge & cursyd speakynge, be put awaye from you, with all maliciousnes.
4:32Be ye courteouse one to another, mercyfull, forgeuynge one another, euen as God for Christes sake hath forgeuen you.

4:1Therfor Y boundun for the Lord biseche you, that ye walke worthili in the clepyng,
4:2in which ye ben clepid, with al mekenesse and myldenesse, with pacience supportinge ech other in charite,
4:3bisi to kepe vnyte of spirit in the boond of pees.
4:4O bodi and o spirit, as ye ben clepid in oon hope of youre cleping;
4:5o Lord,
4:6o feith, o baptym, o God and fadir of alle, which is aboue alle men, and bi alle thingis, and in vs alle.
4:7But to ech of vs grace is youun bi the mesure of the yyuyng of Crist;
4:8for which thing he seith, He stiynge an hiy, ledde caitifte caitif, he yaf yiftis to men.
4:9But what is it, that he stiede vp, no but that also he cam doun first in to the lowere partis of the erthe?
4:10He it is that cam doun, and that stiede on alle heuenes, that he schulde fille alle thingis.
4:11And he yaf summe apostlis, summe prophetis, othere euangelistis, othere scheepherdis and techeris,
4:12to the ful endyng of seyntis, in to the werk of mynystrie, in to edificacioun of Cristis bodi,
4:13til we rennen alle, in to vnyte of feith and of knowyng of Goddis sone, in to a parfit man, aftir the mesure of age of the plente of Crist;
4:14that we be not now litle children, mouynge as wawis, and be not borun aboute with ech wynd of teching, in the weiwardnesse of men, in sutil wit, to the disseyuyng of errour.
4:15But do we treuthe in charite, and wexe in him by alle thingis, that is Crist oure heed;
4:16of whom alle the bodi set togidere, and boundun togidere bi ech ioynture of vnder seruyng, bi worching in to the mesure of ech membre, makith encreesyng of the bodi, in to edificacioun of it silf in charite.
4:17Therfor Y seie and witnesse this thing in the Lord, that ye walke not now, as hethene men walken, in the vanyte of her wit;
4:18that han vndurstondyng derkned with derknessis, and ben alienyd fro the lijf of God, bi ignoraunce that is in hem, for the blyndenesse of her herte.
4:19Which dispeirynge bitoken hem silf to vnchastite, in to the worchyng of al vnclennesse in coueitise.
4:20But ye han not so lerud Crist, if netheles ye herden hym,
4:21and ben tauyt in hym, as is treuthe in Jhesu.
4:22Do ye awey bi the elde lyuyng the elde man, that is corrupt bi the desiris of errour;
4:23and be ye renewlid in the spirit of youre soule;
4:24and clothe ye the newe man, which is maad aftir God in riytwisnesse and hoolynesse of treuthe.
4:25For which thing `ye putte awei leesyng, and speke ye treuthe ech man with his neiybore, for we ben membris ech to othere.
4:26Be ye wrooth, and nyle ye do synne; the sunne falle not doun on youre wraththe.
4:27Nyle ye yyue stide to the deuel.
4:28He that stal, now stele he not; but more trauele he in worchinge with hise hondis that that is good, that he haue whereof he schal yyue to nedi.
4:29Ech yuel word go not of youre mouth; but if ony is good to the edificacioun of feith, that it yyue grace to men that heren.
4:30And nyle ye make the Hooli Goost of God sori, in which ye ben markid in the dai of redempcioun.
4:31Al bitternesse, and wraththe, and indignacioun, and cry, and blasfemye be takun awey fro you, with al malice;
4:32and be ye togidere benygne, merciful, foryyuynge togidere, as also God foryaf to you in Crist.

4:1I therfore which am presoner in the LORDE, exhorte you, that ye walke as it becometh yor callinge wherin ye are called,
4:2with all humblenes off mynde and mekenes, and longe sufferinge, forbearinge one another in loue,
4:3and be diligent to kepe the vnite of the sprete thorow the bonde of peace.
4:4One body and one sprete, eue as ye are called in one hope of youre callynge.
4:5One LORDE, one faith, one baptyme,
4:6one God and father of vs all, which is aboue all, and thorow all, and in you all.
4:7Vnto euery one of vs is geuen grace, acordinge to the measure off the gifte off Christ.
4:8Therfore sayeth he: He is gone vp an hye, and hath led awaye captiuyte captyue, and hath geue giftes vnto men.
4:9That he wente, vp what is it, but that he first came downe in to ye lowest partes of ye earth?
4:10He that came downe, is euen the same which is gone vp aboue all heauens, to fulfill all.
4:11And ye same hath set some to be Apostles, some to be prophetes, some to be Euangelistes, some to be shepherdes & teachers,
4:12wherby the sayntes mighte be coupled together thorow comen seruyce to the edifienge of ye body of Christ,
4:13tyll we all come vnto one maner of faith and knowlege of the sonne of God, and become a perfecte man in to the measure of the perfecte age of Christ
4:14that we be nomore children, waueringe & caried aboute with euery wynde of doctryne thorow the wickednes of men and craftynes, wherby they laye awayte for vs to disceaue vs.
4:15But let vs folowe the trueth in loue, and in all thinges growe in him, which is the heade, euen Christ,
4:16in whom all the body is coupled together, and one membre hangeth by another thorow out all ye ioyntes. Wherby one mynistreth vnto another (acordinge to the operacion as euery membre hath his measure) and maketh, that ye body groweth to the edifienge of
4:17This I saye therfore, and testifye in the LORDE, that ye walke nomore as ye other Heythen walke in the vanite of their mynde,
4:18blynded in their vnderstondinge, beynge straungers fro the life which is in God thorow the ignoraunce that is in them, because of the blyndnes of their hert:
4:19which beynge past repentaunce, haue geue them selues ouer vnto wantonnes, to worke all maner of vnclennes euen with gredynesse.
4:20But ye haue not so learned Christ,
4:21yf so be that ye haue herde of him, & are taught in him, euen as the trueth is in Iesu.
4:22So then as concernynge the conuersacion in tyme past laye from you that olde man which marreth himselfe thorow disceauable lustes:
4:23but be ye renued in the sprete of youre mynde,
4:24and put on that new man, which is shapen after God, in true righteousnes and holynes.
4:25Wherfore put awaye lyenge, and speake euery man the trueth vnto his neghboure, for as moch as we are membres one of another.
4:26Be angrie, but synne not. Let not ye Sonne go downe vpo youre wrath:
4:27nether geue place to the bacbyter.
4:28He that hath stollen, let him steale nomore: but let him laboure rather, and do some good with his hondes, that he maye haue to geue vnto him that nedeth.
4:29Let no filthy communicacion proceade out of youre mouth, but that which is good to edifye withall, wha nede is, that it be gracious to heare.
4:30And greue not the holy sprete of God, wherwith ye are sealed vnto ye daye of redempcion.
4:31Let all bytternes, and fearsnes, and wrath, and roaringe, & cursed speakynge be farre fro you with all maliciousnes.
4:32But be ye curteous one to another, mercifull, and forgeue one another, eue as God hath forgeuen you in Christ.
