| 7:1 | For this Melchisedec king of Salem, Priest of the most high God, who met Abraham returning from the slaughter of the Kings, and blessed him: |
| 7:2 | To whom also Abraham gaue a tenth part of all: first being by interpretation king of righteousnesse, and after that also king of Salem, which is, king of peace. |
| 7:3 | Without father, without mother, without descent, hauing neither beginning of dayes nor end of life: but made like vnto the Sonne of God, abideth a Priest continually. |
| 7:4 | Now consider how great this man was, vnto who euen the patriarch Abraham gaue the tenth of the spoiles. |
| 7:5 | And verily they that are of the sonnes of Leui, who receiue the office of the Priesthood, haue a commandement to take Tithes of the people according to the Law, that is of their brethren, though they come out of the loines of Abraham: |
| 7:6 | But he whose descent is not counted from them, receiued tithes of Abraham, and blessed him that had the promises. |
| 7:7 | And without all contradiction, the lesse is blessed of the better. |
| 7:8 | And here men that die receiue tithes: but there hee receiueth them, of whom it is witnessed that he liueth. |
| 7:9 | And as I may so say, Leui also who receiueth tithes, payed tithes in Abraham. |
| 7:10 | For hee was yet in the loynes of his Father when Melchisedec met him. |
| 7:11 | If therefore perfection were by the Leuiticall Priesthood (for vnder it the people receiued the Law) what further neede was there, that another Priest should rise after the order of Melchisedec, and not bee called after the order of Aaron? |
| 7:12 | For the Priesthood being chaunged, there is made of necessitie a change also of the Law. |
| 7:13 | For hee of whom these things are spoken, pertaineth to another tribe, of which no man gaue attendance at the Altar. |
| 7:14 | For it is euident that our Lorde sprang out of Iuda, of which tribe Moses spake nothing cocerning Priesthood. |
| 7:15 | And it is yet farre more euident: for that after the similitude of Melchisedec there ariseth another Priest, |
| 7:16 | Who is made not after the Law of a carnall commandement, but after the power of an endles life. |
| 7:17 | For hee testifieth; Thou art a Priest for euer, after the order of Melchisedec. |
| 7:18 | For there is verily a disanulling of the commandement going before, for the weakenesse and vnprofitablenesse thereof. |
| 7:19 | For the Law made nothing perfect, but the bringing in of a better hope did: by the which wee draw nigh vnto God. |
| 7:20 | And in as much as not without an othe he was made Priest, |
| 7:21 | (For those Priests were made without an oath: but this with an oath, by him that said vnto him, The Lord sware and wil not repent, thou art a Priest for euer after the order of Melchisedec) |
| 7:22 | By so much was Iesus made a suertie of a better Testament. |
| 7:23 | And they truely were many Priests, because they were not suffered to continue by reason of death. |
| 7:24 | But this man because hee continueth euer, hath an vnchangeable Priesthood. |
| 7:25 | Wherefore he is able also to saue them to the vttermost, that come vnto God by him, seeing hee euer liueth to make intercession for them. |
| 7:26 | For such an high Priest became vs, who is holy, harmelesse, vndefiled, separate from sinners, and made higher then the heauens. |
| 7:27 | Who needeth not daily, as those high Priests, to offer vp sacrifice, first for his owne sins and then for the peoples: for this he did once, when he offered vp himselfe. |
| 7:28 | For the Law maketh men high Priests which haue infirmitie, but the word of the othe which was since the Law, maketh the Sonne, who is consecrated for euermore. |

| 7:5 | And verely the children of Leui, whan they receaue the presthode, haue a commaundement acordynge to the lawe, to take the tithes of the people, that is to saye, of their brethre, though they also came out of the loynes of Abraham. |
| 7:6 | But he whose kynred is not counted amoge them, receaued tithes of Abraham, and blessed him that had the promes. |
| 7:7 | Now is it so without all naysayenge, that the lesse receaueth blessynge of ye better. |
| 7:8 | And here men that dye, receaue tithes. But there he receaueth tithes, of whom it is witnessed that he lyueth. |
| 7:9 | And to saye the trueth, Leui himselfe also which receaueth tithes, payed tithes in Abraham: |
| 7:10 | for he was yet in the loynes of his father Abraham, whan Melchisedech met him. |
| 7:11 | Yf now therfore perfeccion came by the presthode of the Leuites (for vnder the same (presthode) the people receaued the lawe) what neded it then furthurmore, that another prest shulde ryse after the order of Melchisedech, and not after the order of Aar |
| 7:12 | For yf the presthode be traslated, the of necessite must the lawe be translated also. |
| 7:13 | For he of whom these thinges are spoken, is of another trybe, of the which neuer man serued at the altare. |
| 7:14 | For it is euidet, that oure LORDE spronge of the trybe of Iuda, to the which trybe Moses spake nothinge cocernynge presthode, |
| 7:15 | And it is yet a more euident thinge, yf after the symilitude of Mechisedech there aryse another prest, |
| 7:16 | which is not made after ye lawe of the carnall commaundement, but after the power of the endlesse life |
| 7:17 | (For he testifieth: Thou art a prest for euer after the order of Melchisedech) |
| 7:18 | then the commaundement that wente before, is disanulled, because of his weaknesse, and vnprofitablenes. |
| 7:19 | For the lawe made nothinge perfecte, but was an introduccion of a better hope, by ye which hope we drawe nye vnto God. |
| 7:20 | And for this cause is it a better hope, yt it was not promysed without an ooth. |
| 7:21 | Those prestes were made without an ooth, but this prest with an ooth, by him that sayde vnto him: The LORDE sware, and wyl not repente: Thou art a prest for euer after the order of Melchisedech. |
| 7:22 | Thus is Iesus become a stablissher of so moch a better Testamete. |
| 7:23 | And amonge them many were made prestes, because they were not suffred to endure by the reason of death. |
| 7:24 | But this man, because that he endureth euer, hath an euerlastinge presthode. |
| 7:25 | Wherfore he is able also euer to saue them, that come vnto God by him: & lyueth euer, to make intercession for vs. |
| 7:26 | For it became vs to haue soch an hye prest as is holy, innocent, vndefyled, separate from synners, and made hyer then heauen: |
| 7:27 | which nedeth not daylie ( as yonder hye prestes) to offre vp sacrifice first for his awne synnes, and then for the peoples synnes. For that dyd he once for all, whan he offered vp him selfe. |
| 7:28 | For the lawe maketh men prestes which haue infirmitie: but the worde of the ooth, that came sence the lawe, maketh the sonne prest, which is perfecte for euermore. |
| 7:1 | And this Melchisedech, king of Salem, and preest of the hiyeste God, which mette with Abraham, as he turnede ayen fro the sleyng of kyngis, and blesside hym; |
| 7:2 | to whom also Abraham departide tithis of alle thingis; first he is seid king of riytwisnesse, and aftirward kyng of Salem, that is to seie, king of pees, |
| 7:3 | with out fadir, with out modir, with out genologie, nether hauynge bigynnyng of daies, nether ende of lijf; and he is lickened to the sone of God, and dwellith preest with outen ende. |
| 7:4 | But biholde ye how greet is this, to whom Abraham the patriark yaf tithis of the beste thingis. |
| 7:5 | For men of the sones of Leuy takinge presthod han maundement to take tithis of the puple, bi the lawe, that is to seie, of her britheren, thouy also thei wenten out of the leendis of Abraham. |
| 7:6 | But he whos generacioun is not noumbrid in hem, took tithis of Abraham; and he blesside this Abraham, which hadde repromyssiouns. |
| 7:7 | With outen ony ayenseiyng, that that is lesse, is blessid of the betere. |
| 7:8 | And heere deedli men taken tithis; but there he berith witnessyng, that he lyueth. |
| 7:9 | And that it be seid so, bi Abraham also Leuy, that took tithis, was tithid; and yit he was in his fadris leendis, |
| 7:10 | whanne Melchisedech mette with hym. |
| 7:11 | Therfor if perfeccioun was bi the preesthood of Leuy, for vndur hym the puple took the lawe, what yit was it nedeful, another preest to rise, bi the ordre of Melchisedech, and not to be seid bi the ordre of Aaron? |
| 7:12 | For whi whanne the preesthod is translatid, it is nede that also translacioun of the lawe be maad. |
| 7:13 | But he in whom these thingis ben seid, is of another lynage, of which no man was preest to the auter. |
| 7:14 | For it is opyn, that oure Lord is borun of Juda, in which lynage Moises spak no thing of preestis. |
| 7:15 | And more yit it is knowun, if bi the ordre of Melchisedech another preest is risun vp; |
| 7:16 | which is not maad bi the lawe of fleischli maundement, but bi vertu of lijf that may not be vndon. |
| 7:17 | For he witnessith, That thou art a preest with outen ende, bi the ordre of Melchisedech; |
| 7:18 | that repreuyng of the maundement bifor goynge is maad, for the vnsadnesse and vnprofit of it. |
| 7:19 | For whi the lawe brouyt no thing to perfeccioun, but there is a bringing in of a betere hope, bi which we neiyen to God. |
| 7:20 | And hou greet it is, not with out sweryng; but the othere ben maad preestis with outen an ooth; |
| 7:21 | but this preest with an ooth, bi hym that seide `to hym, The Lord swoor, and it schal not rewe hym, Thou art a preest with outen ende, bi the ordre of Melchisedech; |
| 7:22 | in so myche Jhesus is maad biheetere of the betere testament. |
| 7:23 | And the othere weren maad manye preestis, `therfor for thei weren forbedun bi deth to dwelle stille; |
| 7:24 | but this, for he dwellith with outen ende, hath an euerlastynge preesthod. |
| 7:25 | Wherfor also he may saue with outen ende, comynge nyy bi hym silf to God, and euermore lyueth to preye for vs. |
| 7:26 | For it bisemyde that sich a man were a bischop to vs, hooli, innocent, vndefoulid, clene, departid fro synful men, and maad hiyere than heuenes; |
| 7:27 | which hath not nede ech dai, as prestis, first for hise owne giltis to offre sacrifices, and aftirward for the puple; for he dide this thing in offringe hym silf onys. |
| 7:28 | And the lawe ordeynede men prestis hauynge sijknesse; but the word of swering, which is after the lawe, ordeynede the sone perfit with outen ende. |
