1 Peter - Chapter: 3

>
3:1Lykewyse let the wyues be in subiectyon to theyr husbandes, that euen they which beleue not the worde, maye wythoute the worde be wonne by the conuersation of the wiues:
3:2whyle they beholde your pure conuersacion coupled wyth feare.
3:3Whose apparell shall not be outewarde wyth broyeded heare, and hangynge on of golde, other in puttynge on of gorgyous apparell:
3:4but let the hyd man of the harte be vncorrupte with a meke and a quyete spyryte, whiche spyryte is before God a thynge muche set by.
3:5For after thys maner in the olde tyme dyd the holye women whiche trusted in God, tyer them selues, and were obedyente to theyr husbandes
3:6euen as Sara obeyed Abraham, and called hym Lorde: whose doughters ye are as longe as ye do well, and be not afrayde of euerye shadowe.
3:7Lykewyse ye men dwell wyth them accordynge to knoweledge, geuynge honoure vnto the wyfe, as vnto the weaker vessell, and as vnto them that are heyres also of the grace of lyfe, that youre prayers be not let.
3:8In conclusyon be ye all of one mynd, one suffer wyth another, loue as brethren, be petifull, be curteous,
3:9not rendringe euyll for euyll, neyther rebuke for rebuke, but contrarywyse, blesse, remembryng that ye are thervnto called, euen that ye shoulde be heyres of blessinge.
3:10If anye man longe after lyfe, and loueth to se good dayes, let him refrayne his tonge from euil, & his lippes that they speake not gyle.
3:11Let hym eschue euyll and do good, let him seke peace, and ensue it.
3:12For the eyes of the Lorde are ouer the rightuous, and his eares are open vnto theyr prayers. But the face of the Lorde beholdeth them that do euil.
3:13Morouer who is it that wyll harme you, yf ye folowe that whiche is good?
3:14Notwithstanding happy are ye, yf ye suffre for ryghtuousnes sake. Yea and feare not though they seme terrible vnto you, neither be troubled,
3:15but sanctifie the Lorde God in your hertes. Be ready alwaies to geue an answere to euery man that axeth you a reason of the hope, that is in you, and that with mekenes & feare,
3:16hauinge a good conscience, that when they backbyte you as euyl doers, they maye be ashamed, for as muche as they haue falsely accused your good conuersation in Christ.
3:17It is better (yf the wyll of God be so) that ye suffre for wel doyng, then for euil doinge.
3:18For as much as Christ hath ones suffered for sinners, the iuste for the vniuste, for to bringe vs to God, and was kylled, as perteininge to the fleshe: but was quickened in the spirite.
3:19In which spirite, he also wente and preached vnto the spirites that were in prison,
3:20which were in tyme passed disobedient, when the longe sufferinge of God abode excedinge paciently in the dayes of Noe, whyle the arcke was a preparing wherin fewe (that is to saie .viij. soules) were saued by water,
3:21which signifyeth baptisme that nowe saueth vs, not the puttinge awaye of the fylth of the fleshe, but in that a good conscience consenteth to God, by the resurreccion of Iesus Christe,
3:22whyche is on the right hande of God, and is gone into heauen, aungelles, power, and mighte, subdued vnto him.

3:1Likewise let the wiues bee subiect to their husbands, that euen they which obey not the worde, may without the worde be wonne by the conuersation of the wiues,
3:2While they beholde your pure conuersation, which is with feare.
3:3Whose apparelling, let it not be that outwarde, with broyded heare, and golde put about, or in putting on of apparell:
3:4But let it bee the hidde man of the heart, which consisteth in the incorruption of a meeke and quiet spirite, which is before God a thing much set by.
3:5For euen after this maner in time past did the holy women, which trusted in God, tire them selues, and were subiect to their husbands.
3:6As Sara obeyed Abraham, and called him Sir: whose daughters ye are, whiles yee doe well, not being afraide of any terrour.
3:7Likewise ye husbands, dwel with them as men of knowledge, giuing honour vnto the woman, as vnto the weaker vessell, euen as they which are heires together of the grace of life, that your prayers be not interrupted.
3:8Finally, be ye all of one minde: one suffer with another: loue as brethren: bee pitifull: bee courteous,
3:9Not rendring euil for euill, neither rebuke for rebuke: but contrarywise blesse, knowing that ye are thereunto called, that ye should be heires of blessing.
3:10For if any man long after life, and to see good dayes, let him refraine his tongue from euill, and his lippes that they speake no guile.
3:11Let him eschew euil, and do good: let him seeke peace, and follow after it.
3:12For the eyes of the Lord are ouer the righteous, and his eares are open vnto their prayers: and the face of the Lord is against them that do euil.
3:13And who is it that will harme you, if ye follow that which is good?
3:14Notwithstanding blessed are ye, if ye suffer for righteousnes sake. Yea, feare not their feare, neither be troubled.
3:15But sanctifie the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready alwayes to giue an answere to euery man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you, with meekenesse and reuerence,
3:16Hauing a good coscience, that whe they speake euill of you as of euill doers, they may be ashamed, which slander your good conuersation in Christ.
3:17For it is better (if the will of God be so) that ye suffer for well doing, then for euil doing.
3:18For Christ also hath once suffered for sinnes, the iust for the vniust, that he might bring vs to God, and was put to death concerning the flesh, but was quickened by the spirit.
3:19By the which hee also went, and preached vnto the spirits that are in prison.
3:20Which were in time passed disobedient, when once the long suffering of God abode in the dayes of Noe, while the Arke was preparing, wherein fewe, that is, eight soules were saued in the water.
3:21Whereof the baptisme that nowe is, answering that figure, (which is not a putting away of the filth of the flesh, but a confident demaunding which a good conscience maketh to God) saueth vs also by the resurrection of Iesus Christ,
3:22Which is at the right hand of God, gone into heauen, to whom the Angels, and Powers, and might are subiect.

3:1Likewise, ye wives, be in subjection to your own husbands; that, if any obey not the word, they also may without the word be won by the conversation of the wives;
3:2While they behold your chaste conversation coupled with fear.
3:3Whose adorning let it not be that outward adorning of plaiting the hair, and of wearing of gold, or of putting on of apparel;
3:4But let it be the hidden man of the heart, in that which is not corruptible, even the ornament of a meek and quiet spirit, which is in the sight of God of great price.
3:5For after this manner in the old time the holy women also, who trusted in God, adorned themselves, being in subjection unto their own husbands:
3:6Even as Sara obeyed Abraham, calling him lord: whose daughters ye are, as long as ye do well, and are not afraid with any amazement.
3:7Likewise, ye husbands, dwell with them according to knowledge, giving honour unto the wife, as unto the weaker vessel, and as being heirs together of the grace of life; that your prayers be not hindered.
3:8Finally, be ye all of one mind, having compassion one of another, love as brethren, be pitiful, be courteous:
3:9Not rendering evil for evil, or railing for railing: but contrariwise blessing; knowing that ye are thereunto called, that ye should inherit a blessing.
3:10For he that will love life, and see good days, let him refrain his tongue from evil, and his lips that they speak no guile:
3:11Let him eschew evil, and do good; let him seek peace, and ensue it.
3:12For the eyes of the Lord are over the righteous, and his ears are open unto their prayers: but the face of the Lord is against them that do evil.
3:13And who is he that will harm you, if ye be followers of that which is good?
3:14But and if ye suffer for righteousness' sake, happy are ye: and be not afraid of their terror, neither be troubled;
3:15But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear:
3:16Having a good conscience; that, whereas they speak evil of you, as of evildoers, they may be ashamed that falsely accuse your good conversation in Christ.
3:17For it is better, if the will of God be so, that ye suffer for well doing, than for evil doing.
3:18For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but quickened by the Spirit:
3:19By which also he went and preached unto the spirits in prison;
3:20Which sometime were disobedient, when once the longsuffering of God waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was a preparing, wherein few, that is, eight souls were saved by water.
3:21The like figure whereunto even baptism doth also now save us (not the putting away of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God,) by the resurrection of Jesus Christ:
3:22Who is gone into heaven, and is on the right hand of God; angels and authorities and powers being made subject unto him.
