1 Peter - Chapter: 3

>
3:1Also wymmen be thei suget to her hosebondis; that if ony man bileue not to the word, bi the conuersacioun of wymmen thei be wonnun with out word.
3:2And biholde ye in drede youre hooli conuersacioun.
3:3Of whiche `ther be not with outforth curious ournyng of heer, ether doyng aboute of gold, ethir ournyng of clothing;
3:4but thilke that is the hid man of herte, in vncorrupcioun, and of mylde spirit, which is riche in the siyt of God.
3:5For so sumtyme hooli wymmen hopinge in God ourneden hem silf, and weren suget to her owne hosebondis.
3:6As Sara obeied to Abraham, and clepide hym lord; of whom ye ben douytris wel doynge, and not dredynge ony perturbacioun.
3:7Also men dwelle togidre, and bi kunnyng yyue ye onoure to the wommanus freeltee, as to the more feble, and as to euen eiris of grace and of lijf, that youre preieris be not lettid.
3:8And in feith alle of oon wille in preier be ye eche suffringe with othere, loueris of britherhod, merciful, mylde, meke;
3:9not yeldinge yuel for yuel, nether cursing for cursing, but ayenward blessinge; for in this thing ye ben clepid, that ye welde blessinge bi eritage.
3:10For he that wole loue lijf, and se goode daies, constreyne his tunge from yuel, and hise lippis, that thei speke not gile.
3:11And bowe he from yuel, and do good; seke he pees, and perfitli sue it.
3:12For the iyen of the Lord ben on iust men, and hise eris on the preieris of hem; but the cheer of the Lord is on men that don yuels.
3:13And who is it that schal anoye you, if ye ben sueris and louyeris of goodnesse?
3:14But also if ye suffren ony thing for riytwisnesse, ye ben blessid; but drede ye not the drede of hem, that ye be not disturblid.
3:15But halewe ye the Lord Crist in youre hertis, and euermore be ye redi to satisfaccioun to ech man axynge you resoun of that feith and hope that is in you,
3:16but with myldenesse and drede, hauynge good conscience; that in that thing that thei bacbiten of you, thei ben confoundid, whiche chalengen falsly youre good conuersacioun in Crist.
3:17For it is betere that ye do wel, and suffre, if the wille of God wole, than doynge yuele.
3:18For also Crist onys diede for oure synnes, he iust for vniust, that he schulde offre to God vs, maad deed in fleisch, but maad quik in spirit.
3:19For which thing he cam in spirit, and also to hem that weren closid togidre in prisoun prechide;
3:20whiche weren sum tyme vnbileueful, whanne thei abididen the pacience of God in the daies of Noe, whanne the schip was maad, in which a few, that is to seie, eiyte soulis weren maad saaf bi water.
3:21And so baptym of lijk forme makith vs saaf; not the puttyng awei of the filthis of fleisch, but the axyng of a good conscience in God, bi the ayenrysyng of oure Lord Jhesu Crist, that is in the riyt half of God,
3:22and swolewith deth, that we schulden be made eiris of euerlastinge lijf. He yede in to heuene, and aungelis, and powers, and vertues, ben maad sugetis to hym.

3:1Likewise let the wiues bee subiect to their husbands, that euen they which obey not the worde, may without the worde be wonne by the conuersation of the wiues,
3:2While they beholde your pure conuersation, which is with feare.
3:3Whose apparelling, let it not be that outwarde, with broyded heare, and golde put about, or in putting on of apparell:
3:4But let it bee the hidde man of the heart, which consisteth in the incorruption of a meeke and quiet spirite, which is before God a thing much set by.
3:5For euen after this maner in time past did the holy women, which trusted in God, tire them selues, and were subiect to their husbands.
3:6As Sara obeyed Abraham, and called him Sir: whose daughters ye are, whiles yee doe well, not being afraide of any terrour.
3:7Likewise ye husbands, dwel with them as men of knowledge, giuing honour vnto the woman, as vnto the weaker vessell, euen as they which are heires together of the grace of life, that your prayers be not interrupted.
3:8Finally, be ye all of one minde: one suffer with another: loue as brethren: bee pitifull: bee courteous,
3:9Not rendring euil for euill, neither rebuke for rebuke: but contrarywise blesse, knowing that ye are thereunto called, that ye should be heires of blessing.
3:10For if any man long after life, and to see good dayes, let him refraine his tongue from euill, and his lippes that they speake no guile.
3:11Let him eschew euil, and do good: let him seeke peace, and follow after it.
3:12For the eyes of the Lord are ouer the righteous, and his eares are open vnto their prayers: and the face of the Lord is against them that do euil.
3:13And who is it that will harme you, if ye follow that which is good?
3:14Notwithstanding blessed are ye, if ye suffer for righteousnes sake. Yea, feare not their feare, neither be troubled.
3:15But sanctifie the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready alwayes to giue an answere to euery man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you, with meekenesse and reuerence,
3:16Hauing a good coscience, that whe they speake euill of you as of euill doers, they may be ashamed, which slander your good conuersation in Christ.
3:17For it is better (if the will of God be so) that ye suffer for well doing, then for euil doing.
3:18For Christ also hath once suffered for sinnes, the iust for the vniust, that he might bring vs to God, and was put to death concerning the flesh, but was quickened by the spirit.
3:19By the which hee also went, and preached vnto the spirits that are in prison.
3:20Which were in time passed disobedient, when once the long suffering of God abode in the dayes of Noe, while the Arke was preparing, wherein fewe, that is, eight soules were saued in the water.
3:21Whereof the baptisme that nowe is, answering that figure, (which is not a putting away of the filth of the flesh, but a confident demaunding which a good conscience maketh to God) saueth vs also by the resurrection of Iesus Christ,
3:22Which is at the right hand of God, gone into heauen, to whom the Angels, and Powers, and might are subiect.

3:1Likewise, wives, be in subjection to your own husbands, so that if any do not obey the word, they also without the word may be won by the conduct of their wives,
3:2when they observe your chaste conduct accompanied with reverence.
3:3Do not let your adornment be only an outward appearance, arranging the hair, wearing gold, or putting on of clothes,
3:4but let it be the hidden person of the heart, with that which is incorruptible, even the adornment of a meek and quiet spirit, which is of great value in the sight of God.
3:5Because, in this manner, in old times, the holy women who trusted in God also adorned themselves, being in submission to their own husbands,
3:6just as Sarah obeyed Abraham, calling him lord, whose daughters you are if you do good and are not afraid with any terror.
3:7Husbands, likewise, dwell with them according to knowledge, giving honor to the wife, as to the weaker vessel, and as being heirs together of the grace of life, that your prayers may not be hindered.
3:8Finally, all of you be of one mind, having compassion for one another; love as brethren, be tenderhearted, be courteous;
3:9not returning evil for evil or reviling for reviling, but on the contrary blessing, knowing that you are called to this, that you should inherit a blessing.
3:10Because, "He who would love life and see good days, let him refrain his tongue from evil, and his lips from speaking deceit.
3:11Let him turn away from evil, and do good; let him seek peace and pursue it.
3:12Because, the eyes of the LORD are on the righteous, and His ears are open to their prayers; but the face of the LORD is against those who do evil."
3:13And who is he who will harm you if you be followers of that which is good?
3:14But even if you suffer for righteousness' sake, you are blessed. "And do not be afraid of their threats, nor be troubled."
3:15But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts, and always be ready to give an answer to everyone who asks you a reason for the hope that is in you, with meekness and reverence;
3:16having a good conscience, that when they defame you as evildoers, those who falsely accuse your good conduct in Christ may be ashamed.
3:17Because, it is better, if it is the will of God, that you suffer for doing good than for doing evil.
3:18Because, Christ also suffered once for sins, the just for the unjust, that He might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh but made alive by the Spirit,
3:19by whom also He went and preached to the spirits in prison,
3:20who formerly were disobedient, when once the longsuffering of God waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was being prepared, in which a few, that is, eight souls, were saved by water.
3:21This is also figurative of that which also now saves us, even baptism (not the removal of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God), by the resurrection of Jesus Christ,
3:22who has gone into heaven and is on the right hand of God, angels and authorities and powers having been made subject to Him.
