| 4:1 | Christ, then, having suffered for us in the flesh, ye also with the same mind arm yourselves, because he who did suffer in the flesh hath done with sin, |
| 4:2 | no more in the desires of men, but in the will of God, to live the rest of the time in the flesh; |
| 4:3 | for sufficient to us `is' the past time of life the will of the nations to have wrought, having walked in lasciviousnesses, desires, excesses of wines, revelings, drinking-bouts, and unlawful idolatries, |
| 4:4 | in which they think it strange -- your not running with them to the same excess of dissoluteness, speaking evil, |
| 4:5 | who shall give an account to Him who is ready to judge living and dead, |
| 4:6 | for for this also to dead men was good news proclaimed, that they may be judged, indeed, according to men in the flesh, and may live according to God in the spirit. |
| 4:7 | And of all things the end hath come nigh; be sober-minded, then, and watch unto the prayers, |
| 4:8 | and, before all things, to one another having the earnest love, because the love shall cover a multitude of sins; |
| 4:9 | hospitable to one another, without murmuring; |
| 4:10 | each, according as he received a gift, to one another ministering it, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God; |
| 4:11 | if any one doth speak -- `as oracles of God;' if any one doth minister -- `as of the ability which God doth supply;' that in all things God may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom is the glory and the power -- to the ages of the ages. Amen. |
| 4:12 | Beloved, think it not strange at the fiery suffering among you that is coming to try you, as if a strange thing were happening to you, |
| 4:13 | but, according as ye have fellowship with the sufferings of the Christ, rejoice ye, that also in the revelation of his glory ye may rejoice -- exulting; |
| 4:14 | if ye be reproached in the name of Christ -- happy `are ye', because the Spirit of glory and of God upon you doth rest; in regard, indeed, to them, he is evil-spoken of, and in regard to you, he is glorified; |
| 4:15 | for let none of you suffer as a murderer, or thief, or evil-doer, or as an inspector into other men's matters; |
| 4:16 | and if as a Christian, let him not be ashamed; and let him glorify God in this respect; |
| 4:17 | because it is the time of the beginning of the judgment from the house of God, and if first from us, what the end of those disobedient to the good news of God? |
| 4:18 | And if the righteous man is scarcely saved, the ungodly and sinner -- where shall he appear? |
| 4:19 | so that also those suffering according to the will of god, as to a stedfast Creator, let them commit their own souls in good doing. |
| 4:1 | For as moche as christ hath suffred for vs in the flesshe arme youre selves lyke wyse with the same mynde: for he which suffereth in the flesshe ceasith fro synne |
| 4:2 | that he hence forwarde shuld lyve as moche tyme as remayneth in the flesshe: not after ye lustes of men but after the will of God. |
| 4:3 | For it is sufficient for vs that we have spent the tyme that is past of the lyfe after the will of the gentyls walkinge in wantannes lustes dronkennes in eatinge drinkinge and in abominable ydolatrie. |
| 4:4 | And it semeth to them a straunge thinge that ye runne not also with them vnto the same excesse of ryote and therfore speake they evill of you |
| 4:5 | which shall geve a coptes to him that is redy to iudge quycke and deed. |
| 4:6 | For vnto this purpose verely was ye gospell preached vnto the (deed) that they shuld be condempned of men in ye flesshe but shuld live before God in the sprete. |
| 4:7 | The ende of all thinges is at honde. Be ye therfore discrete and sober yt ye maye be apte to prayers. |
| 4:8 | But above all thinges have fervet love amoge you. For love covereth the multitude of synnes. |
| 4:9 | Be ye herberous one to another and that wt out grudginge. |
| 4:10 | As every man hath receaved the gyfte minister the same one to another as good ministers of the manyfolde grace of God. |
| 4:11 | Yf eny man speake let him talke as though he spake ye wordes of God. If eny man minister let him do it as of ye abilitie which god ministreth vnto him. That god in all thinges maye be glorified thorow Iesus Christ to whom be prayse and dominion for ever and whyll the worlde stondeth. Amen. |
| 4:12 | Dearly beloved be not troubled in this heate which now is come amoge you to trye you as though some strauge thinge had happened vnto you: |
| 4:13 | but reioyce in as moche as ye are partetakers of Christes passions that when his glory appereth ye maye be mery and glad. |
| 4:14 | If ye be rayled vpon for the name of Christ happie are ye. For the sprete of glory and the sprete of god resteth apon you. On their parte he is evyll spoken of: but on youre parte he is glorified. |
| 4:15 | Se that none of you suffre as a murtherer or as a thefe or an evyll doar or as a busybody in other mens matters. |
| 4:16 | Yf eny man suffre as a Christe man let him not be ashamed: but let him glorifie god on his behalfe. |
| 4:17 | For the tyme is come that iudgement must begynne at the housse of god. If it fyrst begynne at vs what shall the ende be of them which beleve not the gospell of god? |
| 4:18 | And yf the righteous scasly be saved: where shall the vngodly and the sinner appere? |
| 4:19 | Wherfore let them that suffer accordynge to the will of god commit their soules to him with well doynge as vnto a faythfull creator |
| 4:1 | For as moch then as Christ hath suffred for vs in ye flesh, arme youre selues likewyse with the same mynde. For he which suffreth in the flesh, ceasseth fro synne, |
| 4:2 | yt hece forth (as moch tyme as yet remayneth in ye flesh) he shulde not lyue after the lustes of me, but after the wil of God. |
| 4:3 | For it is ynough, yt we haue spent ye tyme past of the life, after the will of ye Heythen, wha we walked in wantannesse, lustes, dronkenes, glotony, ryotous drynkynge, & i abhominable Idolatrye. |
| 4:4 | And it semeth to the a straunge thinge, yt ye runne not also wt them vnto the same excesse of ryote, & speake euell of you. |
| 4:5 | (Which shal geue acoptes vnto hi yt is ready to iudge ye quycke & ye deed.) |
| 4:6 | For vnto this purpose also was ye Gospell preached vnto the deed, yt they shulde be iudged like other me i ye flesh, but shulde lyue vnto God in ye sprete. |
| 4:7 | The ende of all thiges is at hade.Be ye therfore sober & watch vnto prayers: |
| 4:8 | but aboue all thinges haue feruent loue amonge you one to another. For loue couereth the multitude of synnes. |
| 4:9 | Be ye herberous one to another without grudginge, |
| 4:10 | & mynister one to another, eueryone with the gifte yt he hath receaued, as good stewardes of the manifolde grace of God. |
| 4:11 | Yf eny ma speake, let hi speake it as ye wordes of God. Yf eny man haue an office, let him execute it as out of the power yt God mynistreth vnto hi, yt God maye be praysed in all thinges thorow Iesus Christ, To who be honor and domynion for euer and eu |
| 4:12 | Derely beloued, maruell not at this heate (which is come amoge you to trye you) as though some strauge thinge happened vnto you: |
