>
1:1Simon Peter a seruaunt, and an Apostle of Iesus Christ, to them whych haue obtayned lyke precyous fayth wt vs thorow the ryghtewesnes of oure God and sauioure Iesus Christ.
1:2Grace be vnto you, and peace be multiplyed thorow the knowledge of God and of Iesus oure Lorde.
1:3Accordynge as his godly power hath geuen vnto vs all thinges that pertayne vnto lyfe and godlynes, thorow the knowledge of him that hath called vs by glory, and vertue,
1:4by the whych are geuen vnto vs excellent and moste greate promyses, that by the meanes therof ye myght be partakers of the godly nature, yf ye flye the corrupcyon of worldly lust.
1:5And herunto geue all diligence: in youre fayth mynyster vertue: in vertue knowledge:
1:6in knowledge temperaunce, in temperaunce pacience: in pacience godlynes,
1:7in godlynes brotherly kyndnes, in brotherly kyndnes loue.
1:8For yf these thynges be amonge you, and be plenteous, thy wyll make you that ye nether shalbe ydle nor vnfrutefull in the knowledge of oure Lorde Iesus Christ.
1:9But he that lacketh these thynges, is blynde and gropeth for the waye wyth his hande, and hath forgotten, that he was pourged from hys olde synnes.
1:10Wherfore brethren, geue the more diligence for to make your calling & eleccyon sure For yf ye do soch thynges, ye shall neuer fall.
1:11Yee and by this meanes an entrynge in shal be mynistred vnto you aboundantly into the euerlastyng kyngdome of oure Lorde and sauioure Iesus Christ.
1:12Wherfore, I wyll not be neglygent to put you all wayes in remembraunce of soch thynges though ye knowe them youre selues, and and be stablished in the present trueth.
1:13Notwythstandynge I thynke it mete (as longe as I am in thys tabernacle) to strete you vp by puttyng you in remembraunce, for as moch,
1:14as I am sure, that shortly I must put of thys my tabernacle, euen as oure Lorde Iesus Christ shewed me.
1:15I wyll euer also geue my diligence, that ye maye haue wherwyth to stere vp the remembraunce of these thinges after my departyng.
1:16For we haue not folowed deceatfull fables, when we opened vnto you the power and commynge of oure Lorde Iesus Christ, but wyth our eyes we sawe his maiestie:
1:17euen then verely when he receaued of God the father honoure and glory, and when ther came soch a voyce to hym from the excellent glorye. Thys is my dere beloued sonne, in whom I haue delyte.
1:18This voyce we hearde come from heauen, whan we were wyth hym, in the holy mounte.
1:19We haue also a ryght sure worde of prophecye, wher vnto yf ye take hede, as vnto a lyght that shyneth in a darcke place, ye do well, vntyll the daye dawne, and the daye starre aryse in youre hertes.
1:20So that ye fyrst know thys: that no prophecye in the scripture hath eny pryuate interpretacyon:
1:21For the scripture came neuer by the wyll of man: but holy men of God spake, as they were moued by the holy goost.

1:1Simount Petre, seruaunt and apostle of `Jhesu Crist, to hem that han take with vs the euene feith, in the riytwisnesse of oure God and sauyour Jhesu Crist,
1:2grace and pees be fillid to you, bi the knowing of oure Lord Jhesu Crist.
1:3Hou alle thingis of his godlich vertu, that ben to lijf and pitee, ben youun to vs, bi the knowyng of hym, that clepide vs for his owne glorie and vertu.
1:4Bi whom he yaf to vs moost preciouse biheestis; that bi these thingis ye schulen be maad felows of Goddis kynde, and fle the corrupcioun of that coueytise, that is in the world.
1:5And bringe ye in alle bisynesse, and mynystre ye in youre feith vertu, and `in vertu kunnyng;
1:6in kunnyng abstinence, in abstynence pacience, in pacience pitee;
1:7in pitee, love of britherhod, and in loue of britherhod charite.
1:8For if these ben with you, and ouercomen, thei schulen not make you voide, nethir with out fruyt, in the knowyng of oure Lord Jhesu Crist.
1:9But to whom these ben not redi, he is blynd, and gropith with his hoond, and foryetith the purgyng of his elde trespassis.
1:10Wherfor, britheren, be ye more bisi, that by goode werkis ye make youre clepyng and chesyng certeyn;
1:11for ye doynge these thingis schulen not do synne ony tyme. For thus the entryng in to euerlastynge kyngdom of oure Lord and sauyour Jhesu Crist, schal be mynystrid to you plenteuousli.
1:12For which thing Y schal bigynne to moneste you euere more of these thingis; and Y wole that ye be kunnynge, and confermyd in this present treuthe.
1:13Forsothe Y deme iustli, as long as Y am in this tabernacle, to reise you in monesting; and Y am certeyn,
1:14that the putting awei of my tabernacle is swift, bi this that oure Lord Jhesu Crist hath schewid to me.
1:15But Y schal yyue bisynesse, and ofte after my deth ye haue mynde of these thingis.
1:16For we not suynge vnwise talis, han maad knowun to you the vertu and the biforknowyng of oure Lord Jhesu Crist; but we weren maad biholderis of his greetnesse.
1:17For he took of God the fadir onour and glorie, bi siche maner vois slidun doun to hym fro the greet glorie, This is my loued sone, in whom Y haue plesid to me; here ye hym.
1:18And we herden this vois brouyt from heuene, whanne we weren with hym in the hooli hil.
1:19And we han a saddere word of prophecie, to which ye yyuynge tent don wel, as to a lanterne that yyueth liyt in a derk place, til the dai bigynne to yyue liyt, and the dai sterre sprenge in youre hertis.
1:20And firste vndurstonde ye this thing, that ech prophesie of scripture is not maad bi propre interpretacioun;
1:21for prophesie was not brouyt ony tyme bi mannus wille, but the hooli men of God inspirid with the Hooli Goost spaken.

1:1Symon Peter a seruaut and an Apostle of Iesus Christ.Vnto the which haue optayned like faith with vs in the righteousnes that commeth of oure God, and Sauioure Iesus Christ.
1:2Grace and peace be multiplied with you thorow the knowlege of God and of Iesus Christ oure LORDE.
1:3For so moch as his godly power hath geuen vs all thinges (that pertayne vnto life and godlynes) thorow the knowlege of him that hath called vs by his owne glorie and power,
1:4wherby the excellent and most greate promyses are geue vnto vs: namely, that ye by the same shulde be partakers of the godly nature, yf ye flye the corrupte lust of the worlde:
1:5Geue ye all youre diligence therfore here vnto, and in youre faith mynister vertue: in vertue, knowlege:
1:6in knowlege, temperancy: in temperancy, pacience: in pacience, godlynes:
1:7in godlynes, brotherly loue: in brotherly loue, generall loue.
1:8For yf these thinges be plenteous in you, they will not let you be ydle nor vnfrutefull in ye knowlege of oure LORDE Iesus Christ.
1:9But he that lacketh these thinges, is blynde, & gropeth for the waye with the hade, and hath forgotten, that he was clensed from his olde synnes.
1:10Wherfore (brethre) geue the more diligence, to make youre callynge and eleccion sure: for yf ye do soch thinges, ye shal not fall,
1:11and by this meanes shal there be plenteously mynistred vnto you an entrynge in vnto ye euerlastinge kyngdome of oure LORDE and Sauioure Iesus Christ.
1:12Therfore wil I not be necliget to put you allwayes in remembraunce of soch thinges: though ye knowe them youre selues, and be stablished in the present trueth.
1:13Notwithstondinge I thinke it mete, as loge as I am in this tabernacle, to stere you vp by puttinge you in remembraunce.
1:14For I am sure, that I must shortly put of my tabernacle, euen as oure LORDE Iesus Christ hath shewed vnto me.
1:15Yet wyl I do my diligece, that allwaye after my departynge ye maye haue wherwith to kepe these thinges in remembraunce.
1:16For we folowed not deceaueable fables, whan we declared vnto you the power and commynge of oure LORDE Iesus Christ: but with oure eyes we sawe his maiestie,
1:17whan he receaued of God the father honoure & prayse, by a voyce that came vnto him from the excellent glory, after this maner: This is my deare sonne, in whom I haue delyte.
1:18And this voyce herde we broughte downe fro heauen, whan we were with him on the holy mount.
1:19We haue also a sure worde of prophecie, and ye do well that ye take hede thervnto, as vnto a lighte that shyneth in a darke place vntyll the daye dawne, and the daye starre aryse in youre hertes.
1:20And this shal ye knowe first, that no prophecie in the scripture is done of eny priuate interpretacion.
1:21For the prophecie was neuer broughte by the wyll of man, but the holy men of God spake, as they were moued of ye holy goost.
