| 2:1 | But also false prophetis weren in the puple, as in you schulen be maistris lieris, that schulen bringe in sectis of perdicioun; and thei denyen thilke Lord that bouyte hem, and bringen on hem silf hasti perdicioun. |
| 2:2 | And many schulen sue her letcheries, bi whiche the weie of treuthe schal be blasfemyd; |
| 2:3 | and thei schulen make marchaundie of you in coueytise bi feyned wordis. To whiche doom now a while ago ceessith not, and the perdicioun of hem nappith not. |
| 2:4 | For if God sparide not aungels synnynge, but bitook hem to be turmentid, and to be drawun doun with boondis of helle in to helle, to be kept in to dom; |
| 2:5 | and sparide not the firste world, but kept Noe, the eiythe man, the biforgoere of riytwisnesse, and brouyte in the greet flood to the world of vnfeithful men; |
| 2:6 | and he droof in to poudre the citees of men of Sodom and of men of Gommor, and dampnede bi turnyng vpsedoun, and putte hem the ensaumple of hem that weren to doynge yuele; |
| 2:7 | and delyuerid the iust Loth, oppressid of the wrong, and of the letcherouse conuersacioun of cursid men; |
| 2:8 | for in siyt and hering he was iust, and dwellide amongst hem that fro dai in to dai turmentiden with wickid werkis a iust soule. |
| 2:9 | For the Lord kan delyuere piteuouse men fro temptacioun, and kepe wickid men `in to the dai of dom to be turmentid; |
| 2:10 | but more hem that walken aftir the fleisch, in coueytinge of vnclennesse, and dispisen lordschiping, and ben boold, plesynge hem silf, and dreden not to bringe in sectis, blasfemynge; where aungels, |
| 2:11 | whanne thei ben more in strengthe and vertu, beren not `that was the execrable doom ayens hem. |
| 2:12 | But these ben as vnresonable beestis, kyndli in to takyng, and in to deth, blasfemynge in these thingis that thei knowen not, and schulen perische in her corrupcioun, |
| 2:13 | and resseyue the hire of vnriytwisnesse. And thei gessen delicis of defouling and of wemme, to be likyngis of dai, flowynge in her feestis with delicis, doynge letcherie with you, |
| 2:14 | and han iyen ful of auowtrie, and vnceessynge trespas, disseyuynge vnstidfast soulis, and han the herte excercisid to coueitise; the sones of cursyng, |
| 2:15 | that forsaken the riyt weie, and erriden, suynge the weie of Balaam of Bosor, which louyde the hire of wickidnesse. |
| 2:16 | But he hadde repreuyng of his woodnesse; a doumb beest vndur yok, that spak with vois of man, that forbede the vnwisdom of the profete. |
| 2:17 | These ben wellis with out watir, and mystis dryuun with `whirlinge wyndys, to whiche the thicke mijst of derknessis is reseruyd. |
| 2:18 | And thei speken in pryde of vanyte, and disseyuen in desiris of fleisch of letcherie hem, that scapen a litil. |
| 2:19 | Whiche lyuen in errour, and biheten fredom to hem, whanne thei ben seruauntis of corrupcioun. For of whom ony man is ouercomun, of hym also he is seruaunt. |
| 2:20 | For if men forsaken the vnclennessis of the world, bi the knowyng of oure Lord and sauyour Jhesu Crist, and eftsone ben wlappid in these, and ben ouercomun, the lattere thingis ben maad to hem worse than the formere. |
| 2:21 | For it was betere to hem to not knowe the weie of riytwisnesse, than to turne ayen aftir the knowyng, fro that hooli maundement that was bitakun to hem. |
| 2:22 | For thilke very prouerb bifelde to hem, The hound turnede ayen to his castyng, and a sowe is waischun in walwyng in fenne. |
| 2:1 | Bvt there were false prophets also among the people, euen as there shalbe false teachers among you: which priuily shall bring in damnable heresies, euen denying the Lord, that hath bought them, and bring vpon themselues swift damnation. |
| 2:2 | And many shall follow their destructions, by whom the way of trueth shalbe euil spoken of, |
| 2:3 | And through couetousnes shall they with fained words make marchandise of you, whose condemnation long since resteth not, and their destruction slumbreth not. |
| 2:4 | For if God spared not the Angels that had sinned, but cast them downe into hell, and deliuered them into chaines of darkenes, to be kept vnto damnation: |
| 2:5 | Neither hath spared the olde worlde, but saued Noe the eight person a preacher of righteousnesse, and brought in the flood vpon the world of the vngodly, |
| 2:6 | And turned the cities of Sodom and Gomorrhe into ashes, condemned them and ouerthrewe them, and made them an ensample vnto them that after should liue vngodly, |
| 2:7 | And deliuered iust Loth vexed with the vncleanly conuersation of the wicked: |
| 2:8 | (For he being righteous, and dwelling among them, in seeing and hearing, vexed his righteous soule from day to day with their vnlawfull deedes.) |
| 2:9 | The Lord knoweth to deliuer the godly out of tentation, and to reserue the vniust vnto the day of iudgement vnder punishment. |
| 2:10 | And chiefly them that walke after the flesh, in the lust of vncleannesse, and despise gouernement, which are bolde, and stand in their owne conceite, and feare not to speake euill of them that are in dignitie. |
| 2:11 | Where as the Angels which are greater both in power and might, giue not railing iudgement against them before the Lord. |
| 2:12 | But these, as naturall brute beasts, led with sensualitie and made to be taken, and destroyed, speake euill of those things which they know not, and shall perish through their owne corruption, |
| 2:13 | And shall receiue the wages of vnrighteousnes, as they which count it pleasure dayly to liue deliciously. Spottes they are and blottes, deliting them selues in their deceiuings, in feasting with you, |
| 2:14 | Hauing eyes full of adulterie, and that can not cease to sinne, beguiling vnstable soules: they haue heartes exercised with couetousnesse, they are the children of curse: |
| 2:15 | Which forsaking the right way, haue gone astray, folowing the way of Balaam, the sonne of Bosor, which loued the wages of vnrighteousnes. |
| 2:16 | But he was rebuked for his iniquitie: for the dumme beast speaking with mans voyce, forbade the foolishnesse of the Prophet. |
| 2:17 | These are welles without water, and cloudes caried about with a tempest, to whome the blacke darkenes is reserued for euer. |
| 2:18 | For in speaking swelling wordes of vanitie, they beguile with wantonnesse through the lusts of the flesh them that were cleane escaped from them which are wrapped in errour, |
| 2:19 | Promising vnto them libertie, and are themselues the seruants of corruption: for of whomsoeuer a man is ouercome, euen vnto the same is he in bondage. |
| 2:20 | For if they, after they haue escaped from the filthinesse of the world, through the acknowledging of the Lord, and of the Sauiour Iesus Christ, are yet tangled againe therein, and ouercome, the latter ende is worse with them then the beginning. |
| 2:21 | For it had bene better for them, not to haue acknowledged the way of righteousnes, then after they haue acknowledged it, to turne from the holy commandement giuen vnto them. |
| 2:22 | But it is come vnto them, according to the true Prouerbe, The dogge is returned to his owne vomit: and, The sowe that was washed, to the wallowing in the myre. |
| 2:1 | But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there will be false teachers among you, who will secretly bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord who bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction. |
| 2:2 | And many will follow their destructive ways, because of whom the way of truth will be blasphemed. |
| 2:3 | And through covetousness they will exploit you with deceptive words for profit; for a long time their judgment has not been idle, and their damnation does not slumber. |
| 2:4 | Because, if God did not spare the angels who sinned, but cast them down to hell and delivered them into chains of darkness, to be reserved for judgment; |
| 2:5 | and did not spare the old world, but saved Noah one of eight people, a preacher of righteousness, bringing in the flood upon the world of the ungodly; |
| 2:6 | and turning the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah into ashes, condemned them with destruction, making them an example to those who afterward would live ungodly; |
| 2:7 | and delivered righteous Lot, who was oppressed with the filthy conduct of the wicked |
| 2:8 | (because, that righteous man, dwelling among them, tormented his righteous soul from day to day by seeing and hearing their lawless deeds). |
| 2:9 | The Lord knows how to deliver the godly out of temptations and to reserve the unjust for the day of judgment to be punished, |
| 2:10 | but especially those who walk according to the flesh in the lust of uncleanness and despise authority. They are presumptuous, self willed, they are not afraid to speak evil of dignitaries, |
| 2:11 | whereas angels, who are greater in power and might, do not bring a reviling accusation against them before the Lord. |
| 2:12 | But these, like natural brute beasts, made to be captured and destroyed, speak evil of the things that they do not understand, and will utterly perish in their own corruption, |
| 2:13 | and will receive the wages of unrighteousness, as those who count it pleasure to indulge in the daytime. They are spots and blemishes, delighting themselves with their own deceptions while they feast with you, |
| 2:14 | having eyes full of adultery, and that cannot cease from sin, enticing unstable souls. They have a heart trained with covetous practices, and are cursed children. |
| 2:15 | They have forsaken the right way and have gone astray, following the way of Balaam the son of Beor, who loved the wages of unrighteousness; |
| 2:16 | but was rebuked for his iniquity: the mute donkey speaking with a man's voice restrained the madness of the prophet. |
| 2:17 | These are wells without water, clouds that are carried by a tempest, for whom is reserved the blackness of darkness forever. |
| 2:18 | Because, when they speak great swelling words of emptiness, they allure through the lusts of the flesh, through unrestrained lusts, those who had completely escaped from those who live in error. |
| 2:19 | While they promise them liberty, they themselves are the servants of corruption; because by whom a person is overcome, by him also is he brought in bondage. |
| 2:20 | Because if, after they have escaped the pollutions of the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, they are again entangled in them and overcome, the latter end is worse for them than the beginning. |
| 2:21 | because, it would have been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than after having known it, to turn from the holy commandment delivered to them. |
| 2:22 | But it has happened to them according to the true proverb: "The dog returned to his own vomit again," and, "a sow, having washed, to her wallowing in the mire." |
