| 3:1 | This, now, beloved, a second letter to you I write, in both which I stir up your pure mind in reminding `you', |
| 3:2 | to be mindful of the sayings said before by the holy prophets, and of the command of us the apostles of the Lord and Saviour, |
| 3:3 | this first knowing, that there shall come in the latter end of the days scoffers, according to their own desires going on, |
| 3:4 | and saying, `Where is the promise of his presence? for since the fathers did fall asleep, all things so remain from the beginning of the creation;' |
| 3:5 | for this is unobserved by them willingly, that the heavens were of old, and the earth out of water and through water standing together by the word of God, |
| 3:6 | through which the then world, by water having been deluged, was destroyed; |
| 3:7 | and the present heavens and the earth, by the same word are treasured, for fire being kept to a day of judgment and destruction of the impious men. |
| 3:8 | And this one thing let not be unobserved by you, beloved, that one day with the Lord `is' as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day; |
| 3:9 | the Lord is not slow in regard to the promise, as certain count slowness, but is long-suffering to us, not counselling any to be lost but all to pass on to reformation, |
| 3:10 | and it will come -- the day of the Lord -- as a thief in the night, in which the heavens with a rushing noise will pass away, and the elements with burning heat be dissolved, and earth and the works in it shall be burnt up. |
| 3:11 | All these, then, being dissolved, what kind of persons doth it behove you to be in holy behaviours and pious acts? |
| 3:12 | waiting for and hasting to the presence of the day of God, by which the heavens, being on fire, shall be dissolved, and the elements with burning heat shall melt; |
| 3:13 | and for new heavens and a new earth according to His promise we do wait, in which righteousness doth dwell; |
| 3:14 | wherefore, beloved, these things waiting for, be diligent, spotless and unblameable, by Him to be found in peace, |
| 3:15 | and the long-suffering of our Lord count ye salvation, according as also our beloved brother Paul -- according to the wisdom given to him -- did write to you, |
| 3:16 | as also in all the epistles, speaking in them concerning these things, among which things are certain hard to be understood, which the untaught and unstable do wrest, as also the other Writings, unto their own destruction. |
| 3:17 | Ye, then, beloved, knowing before, take heed, lest, together with the error of the impious being led away, ye may fall from your own stedfastness, |
| 3:18 | and increase ye in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ; to him `is' the glory both now, and to the day of the age! Amen. |
| 3:1 | This is the seconde pistle that I now wryte vnto you beloved wherwith I stere vp and warne youre pure myndes to call to remembrauce |
| 3:2 | the wordes which were tolde before of the holy prophetes and also the commaundement of vs the apostles of the lorde and saveour. |
| 3:3 | This fyrst vnderstode that ther shall come in the last dayes mockers which will walke after their awne lustes |
| 3:4 | and saye. Where is the promes of his comynge? For sence ye fathers dyed all thinges cotinue in ye same estate wher in they were at ye begynninge. |
| 3:5 | This they knowe not (and that willyngly) how that the hevens a great whyle ago were and the erth that was in the water appered vp out of the water by the worde of god: |
| 3:6 | by the which thinges the worlde yt then was perisshed over flowen wt the water. |
| 3:7 | But the heves verely and erth which are now are kept by the same worde in store and reserved vnto fyre agaynst the daye of iudgement and perdicion of vngodly men. |
| 3:8 | Derely beloved be not ignorant of this one thynge how that one daye is wt the lorde as a thousande yeare and a thousand yeare as one daye. |
| 3:9 | The lorde is not slacke to fulfill his promes as some men cout slacknes: but is pacient to vs warde and wolde have no man lost but wolde receave all men to repentauce. |
| 3:10 | Neverthelesse ye daye of the lorde will come as a thefe in ye nyght in the which daye ye hevens shall perisshe with terrible noyes and the elemetes shall melt with heet and the erth with the workes that are therin shall burne. |
| 3:11 | Yf all these thinges shall perisshe what maner persons ought ye to be in holy conversacion and godlynes: |
| 3:12 | lokynge for and hastynge vnto the commynge of the daye of God in which the hevens shall perisshe with fyre and the elementes shalbe consumed with heate. |
| 3:13 | Neverthelesse we loke for a newe heven and a newe erth accordynge to his promes where in dwelleth rightewesnes. |
| 3:14 | Wherfore derly beloved seynge yt ye loke for soche thynges be diliget that ye maye be founde of him in peace wt out spotte and vndefiled |
| 3:15 | And suppose that ye longe sufferynge of the lorde is saluacion even as oure derely beloved brother Paul accordynge to ye wysdome geve vnto him wrote to you |
| 3:16 | yee almost in very pistle speakynge of soche thynges: amoge which are many thynges harde to be vnderstonde which they that are vnlearned and vnstable pervert as they do other scriptures vnto their awne destruccio. |
| 3:17 | Ye therfore beloved seynge ye knowe it before hande beware lest ye be also plucked a waye with the erroure of the wicked and fall from youre awne stedfastnes: |
| 3:18 | but growe in grace and in the knowledge of oure lorde and saveoure Iesus Christ. To whom he glory bothe now and for ever. Amen. |
| 3:1 | This is the seconde Epistle that I now wryte vnto you (ye dearly beloued) wherin I stere vp and warne youre pure mynde, that ye maye remembre |
| 3:2 | the wordes, which were tolde before of the holy prophetes: and also the commaundement of vs, that be the Apostles of the LORDE and Sauioure. |
| 3:3 | This first vnderstonde, that in the last dayes there shal come mockers, which wyll walke after their awne lustes, |
| 3:4 | & saye: Where is the promes of his commynge? For sence the fathers fell on slepe, euery thinge contynueth as it was from the begynnynge of ye creature. |
| 3:5 | This they knowe not (and that wylfully) how that the heauens were afore tyme also, and the earth out of the water, & was in the water by the worde of God, |
| 3:6 | yet was the worlde at that tyme destroyed by the same with the floude. |
| 3:7 | But the heauens which are yet, and ye earth, are kepte in stoare by his worde, to be reserued vnto fyre agaynst the daye of iudgment and damnacion of vngodly men. |
| 3:8 | Dearly beloued, be not ignoraunt of this one thinge, how that one daye is with the LORDE as a thousande yeare: and a thousande yeare as one daye. |
| 3:9 | The LORDE is not slacke to fulfyll his promes (as some me counte slacknesse) but is paciet to vs warde, and wyl not that eny ma shulde be lost, but that euery man shulde amende himselfe. |
| 3:10 | Neuertheles the daye of the LORDE shal come euen as a thefe in the night: in the which (daye) the heauens shal perishe with a greate noyse, and the Elementes shal melte with heate, and the earth and ye workes that are therin, shal burne. |
| 3:11 | Yf all these thinges shal perishe, what maner persons then ought ye to be in holy couersacion and godlynes, |
| 3:12 | lokynge for and hastynge vnto the commynge of the LORDE? In the which the heauens shal perishe with fyre, and the elementes shal melt with heate. |
| 3:13 | Neuertheles we loke for a new heauen and a new earth (acordynge to his promes) wherin dwelleth righteousnes. |
| 3:14 | Wherfore dearly beloued, seynge that ye loke for soch thinges, be diligent, yt ye maye be founde before him in peace without spot and vndefyled: |
| 3:15 | and counte the longsufferynge of oure LORDE youre saluacion, Euen as oure dearly beloued brother Paul (acordinge to the wyssdome geue vnto him) wrote vnto you: |
| 3:16 | yee speakinge therof allmost in all Epistles, wherin are many thinges harde to be vnderstonde, which they that are vnlerned and vnstable, peruerte, as they do the other scriptures also, to their awne danacion. |
| 3:17 | Ye therfore beloued, seynge ye knowe it before hande, bewarre, lest ye also be plucte awaye thorow the erroure of ye wicked, and fall from yor owne stedfastnes. |
| 3:18 | But growe in grace, and in the knowlege of oure LORDE and Sauioure Iesus Christ. To him be prayse now and for euer, Amen. |
