| 1:1 | The Elder vnto the elect Lady, and her children, whome I loue in the trueth: and not I onely, but also all they that haue knowen ye trueth: |
| 1:2 | For the trueths sake which dwelleth in vs, and shalbe with vs for euer: |
| 1:3 | Grace bee with you, mercie, and peace from God the Father, and from the Lord Iesus Christ, the Sonne of the Father in trueth and loue. |
| 1:4 | I reioyced greatly, that I found of thy children walking in trueth, as wee haue receiued a commaundement from the Father. |
| 1:5 | And now, I beseech thee Lady, not as though I wrote a new commandement vnto thee: but that which wee had from the beginning, that wee loue one another. |
| 1:6 | And this is loue, that wee walke after his Commandements. This is the Commandement, that as yee haue heard from the beginning, yee should walke in it. |
| 1:7 | For many deceiuers are entred into the world, who confesse not that Iesus Christ is come in the flesh. This is a deceiuer, and an Antichrist. |
| 1:8 | Looke to your selues, that wee lose not those things which wee haue wrought, but that we receiue a full reward. |
| 1:9 | Whosoeuer transgresseth and abideth not in the doctrine of Christ, hath not God: hee that abideth in the doctrine of Christ, he hath both the Father and the Sonne. |
| 1:10 | If there come any vnto you, and bring not this doctrine, receiue him not into your house, neither bid him, God speed. |
| 1:11 | For hee that biddeth him God speed, is partaker of his euill deeds. |
| 1:12 | Hauing many things to write vnto you, I would not write with paper and inke, but I trust to come vnto you, and speake face to face, that our ioy may be full. |
| 1:13 | The children of thy elect sister greet thee. Amen. |

| 1:4 | I am greatly reioysed, that I haue founde amonge thy children, them that walke in ye trueth, as we haue receaued a commaundement of the father. |
| 1:5 | And now lady I beseke the (not as though I wrote a new commaundement vnto the, but the same which we haue had from the begynnynge) that we loue one another. |
| 1:6 | And this is the loue, that we walke after his commaundementes. This is the commaundement (as ye haue herde fro the begynnynge) that we shulde walke therin. |
| 1:7 | For many disceauers are come in to the worlde, which confesse not yt Iesus Christ is come in the flesh: this is a disceauer and an Antechrist. |
| 1:8 | Take hede to youre selues, that we lose not that which we haue wrought, but that we maye receaue a full rewarde. |
| 1:9 | Whoso euer transgresseth, and abydeth not in the doctryne of Christ, hath not God: he that abydeth in ye doctryne of Christ, hath both the father and the sonne. |
| 1:10 | Yf eny man come vnto you, and brynge not this doctryne, receaue him not in to the house, nether salute him: |
| 1:11 | for he that saluteth him, is partaker of his euell dedes. |
| 1:12 | I had many thinges to wryte vnto you: neuertheles I wolde not wryte wt papyre and ynke, but I trust to come vnto you, and to speake with you mouth mouth, that oure ioye maye be full. |
| 1:13 | The children of thy electe sister salute the. Amen. |
| 1:1 | The eldere man, to the chosun ladi, and to her children, whiche Y loue in treuthe; and not Y aloone, but also alle men that knowen treuthe; |
| 1:2 | for the treuthe that dwellith in you, and with you schal be with outen ende. |
| 1:3 | Grace be with you, merci, and pees of God the fadir, and of Jhesu Crist, the sone of the fadir, in treuthe and charite. |
| 1:4 | I ioiede ful myche, for Y foond of thi sones goynge in treuthe, as we resseyueden maundement of the fadir. |
| 1:5 | And now Y preye thee, ladi, not as writinge a newe maundement to thee, but that that we hadden fro the bigynnyng, that we loue ech other. |
| 1:6 | And this is charite, that we walke after his maundementis. For this is the comaundement, that as ye herden at the bigynnyng, walke ye in hym. |
| 1:7 | For many disseyueris wenten out in to the world, which knoulechen not that Jhesu Crist hath come in fleisch; this is a disseyuere and antecrist. |
| 1:8 | Se ye you silf, lest ye lesen the thingis that ye han wrouyt, that ye resseyue ful mede; |
| 1:9 | witynge that ech man that goith bifore, and dwellith not in the teching of Crist, hath not God. He that dwellith in the teching, hath bothe the sone and the fadir. |
| 1:10 | If ony man cometh to you, and bryngith not this teching, nyle ye resseyue hym in to hous, nether seie ye to hym, Heil. |
| 1:11 | For he that seith to hym, Heil, comyneth with hise yuel werkis. Lo! Y biforseide to you, that ye be not confoundid in the dai of oure Lord Jhesu Crist. |
| 1:12 | Y haue mo thingis to write to you, and Y wolde not bi parchemyn and enke; for Y hope that Y schal come to you, and speke mouth to mouth, that your ioye be ful. |
| 1:13 | The sones of thi chosun sistir greten thee wel. The grace of God be with thee. Amen. |
