2 Samuel - Chapter: 10

10:1And it came to passe, after this, that the king of the children of Ammon died, and Hanun his sonne reigned in his stead.
10:2Then said Dauid, I will shewe kindnes vnto Hanun the sonne of Nahash, as his father shewed kindnes vnto me. And Dauid sent to comfort him by the hand of his seruants, for his father: and Dauids seruants came into the land of the children of Ammon.
10:3And the princes of the children of Ammon saide vnto Hanun their lord, Thinkest thou that Dauid doeth honour thy father, that he hath sent comforters vnto thee? Hath not Dauid rather sent his seruants vnto thee, to search the citie, and to spie it out, and to ouerthrow it?
10:4Wherefore Hanun tooke Dauids seruants, and shaued off the one halfe of their beards, and cut off their garments in the middle, euen to their buttocks, and sent them away.
10:5When they told it vnto Dauid, he sent to meet them, because the men were greatly ashamed: and the King saide, Tarie at Iericho vntill your beards be growen, and then returne.
10:6And when the children of Ammon saw that they stanke before Dauid, the children of Ammon sent, and hired the Syrians of Beth-Rehob, and the Syrians of Zoba, twentie thousand footmen, and of king Maacah, a thousand men, and of Ishtob twelue thousand men.
10:7And when Dauid heard of it, he sent Ioab, and all the hoste of the mightie men.
10:8And the children of Ammon came out, and put the battell in aray at the entring in of the gate: and the Syrians of Zoba and of Rehob, and Ishtob, and Maacah, were by themselues in the field.
10:9When Ioab saw that the front of the battell was against him, before and behind, he chose of all the choise men of Israel, and put them in aray against the Syrians.
10:10And the rest of the people he deliuered into the hand of Abishai his brother, that he might put them in aray against the children of Ammon.
10:11And he said, If the Syrians bee too strong for me, then thou shalt helpe me: but if the children of Ammon bee too strong for thee, then I will come and helpe thee.
10:12Be of good courage, and let vs play the men, for our people, and for the cities of our God: and the Lord doe that which seemeth him good.
10:13And Ioab drew nigh, and the people that were with him, vnto the battell against the Syrians: and they fled before him.
10:14And when the children of Ammon saw that the Syrians were fledde, then fled they also before Abishai, and entred into the citie: so Ioab returned from the children of Ammon, and came to Ierusalem.
10:15And when the Syrians sawe that they were smitten before Israel, they gathered themselues together.
10:16And Hadarezer sent, and brought out the Syrians that were beyond the riuer, and they came to Helam, and Shobach the captaine of the hoste of Hadarezer went before them.
10:17And when it was told Dauid, he gathered all Israel together, and passed ouer Iordane, and came to Helam: and the Syrians set themselues in aray against Dauid, and fought with him.
10:18And the Syrians fled before Israel, and Dauid slew the men of seuen hundred charets of the Syrians, and fourtie thousand horsemen, and smote Shobach the captaine of their hoste, who died there.
10:19And when all the kings that were seruants to Hadarezer sawe, that they were smitten before Israel, they made peace with Israel, and serued them: so the Syrians feared to helpe the children of Ammon any more.

10:3And the princes of the children of Ammon sayde vnto Hanun their lorde, Thinkest thou that Dauid doth honour thy father, that he hath sent comforters to thee? hath not Dauid rather sent his seruants vnto thee, to search the citie, and to spie it out, and to ouerthrow it?
10:4Wherefore Hanun tooke Dauids seruants, and shaued off the halfe of their beard, and cut off their garments in the middle, euen to their buttockes, and sent them away.
10:5When it was told vnto Dauid, he sent to meete them (for the men were exceedingly ashamed) and the King sayde, Tary at Iericho, vntill your beards be growen, then returne.
10:6And when the children of Ammon sawe that they stanke in the sight of Dauid, the children of Ammon sent and hired the Aramites of the house of Rehob, and the Aramites of Zoba, twentie thousande footemen, and of King Maacah a thousand men, and of Ish-tob twelue thousande men.
10:7And when Dauid heard of it, he sent Ioab, and all the hoste of the strong men.
10:8And the children of Ammon came out, and put their armie in araye at the entring in of the gate: and the Aramites of Zoba, and of Rehob, and of Ish-tob, and of Maacah were by themselues in the fielde.
10:9When Ioab saw that the front of the battel was against him before and behinde, he chose of all the choyse of Israel, and put them in aray against the Aramites.
10:10And the rest of the people hee deliuered into the hande of Abishai his brother, that hee might put them in aray against the children of Ammon.
10:11And he sayde, If the Aramites be stronger then I, thou shalt helpe me, and if the children of Ammon be too strong for thee, I will come and succour thee.
10:12Be strong and let vs be valiant for our people, and for the cities of our God, and let the Lord do that which is good in his eyes.
10:13Then Ioab, and the people that was with him, ioyned in battel with the Aramites, who fled before him.
10:14And when the children of Ammon sawe that the Aramites fled, they fled also before Abishai, and entred into the citie. so Ioab returned from the children of Ammon, and came to Ierusalem.
10:15And when the Aramites sawe that they were smitten before Israel, they gathered them together.
10:16And Hadarezer sent, and brought out the Aramites that were beyond the Riuer: and they came to Helam, and Shobach the captaine of the hoste of Hadarezer went before them.
10:17When it was shewed Dauid, then he gathered all Israel together, and passed ouer Iorden and came to Helam: and the Aramites set themselues in aray against Dauid, and fought with him:
10:18And the Aramites fled before Israel: and Dauid destroyed seuen hundreth charets of the Aramites, and fourtie thousande horsemen, and smote Shobach the captaine of his hoste, who dyed there.
10:19And when all the Kings, that were seruants to Hadarezer, saw that they fell before Israel, they made peace with Israel, and serued them. and the Aramites feared to helpe the children of Ammon any more.

 

10:1It happened after this, that the king of the children of Ammon died, & Hanon his sonne raygned in his steade.
10:2Then sayd Dauid: I will shew kyndnesse vnto Hanon the sonne of Nahas, as hys father shewed kyndnesse vnto me. And Dauid sent to confort hym by the hand of his seruauntes ouer hys father. And Dauids seruauntes came into the lande of the children of Ammon,
10:3and the Lordes of the children of Ammon sayd vnto Hanon their Lord: thynkest thou that Dauid dothe honoure thy father, that he hath sent comfortoures to the? Hath not Dauid rather sent his seruauntes vnto the, to searche the cytie, & to spye it out, and to ouerthrow it?
10:4Wherfore, Hanon toke Dauids seruauntes, & shaued of the one halfe of euerye mannes berd and cut of their garmentes in the myddle, euen harde to the buttockes of them, & sent them awaye.
10:5When they tolde it vnto Dauid, he sent to mete them (for they were men excedingly a shamed) & the kyng sayd: tarie at Iericho vntill your beerdes be growen, and then returne.
10:6And when the chyldren of Ammon saw that they stancke in the sight of Dauid, they sent and hired the Syrians of the house of Rehob, & the Sirians of Zoba .xx. thousand fote men, and of kyng Maacha a thousand men, & of Istob twelue thousand men.
10:7And when Dauid hearde of it, he sent Ioab & all the host of strong men.
10:8And the children of Ammon came out, and waged battell at the entring in of the gate, & the Sirians of Zobah, of Rehob, Istob and Maacah were by them selues in the felde.
10:9When Ioab saw that the front of the battell was agaynst hym before and after, he chose of all the fresh young men of Israell, & put them in araye agaynst the Syrians.
10:10And the rest of the people he delyuered into the hand of Abisay hys brother, that he myght put them in araye agaynst the children of Ammon.
10:11And be sayd, yf the Sirians be stronger then I, thou shalt helpe me. But yf the chyldren of Ammon be to strong for the, I will come and succoure the.
10:12Therfore quyte the lyke a man, & let vs stonde stiff for oure people, & for the cities of oure God. And the Lord do that which is good in his owne eyes.
10:13And Ioab proceded forth, & the people that was with hym, to fight with the Sirians. But they fled before him.
10:14And when the children of Ammon saw that the Sirians were fled, then fled they also before Abisay, and entred into the citye. And so Ioab returned from the children of Ammon, & came to Ierusalem.
10:15And when the Sirians saw that they were put to the worsse before Israel, they geathered them togeather.
10:16And Hadarezer sent, & brought out the Sirians that were beyounde the ryuer. And they came with their armye and Hobah the captayne of the host of Hadarezer went before them.
10:17And when it was shewed Dauid, he geathered all Israel togeather, and passed ouer Iordan, & cam to Helam: And the Sirians set them selues in araye agaynst Dauid, & fought with him:
10:18and the Sirians fled before Israel. And Dauid destroyed seuen hundred charettes of the Sirians, and fourtye thousand horsemen, and smote Sobah the captayne of their host, which also dyed there.
10:19And when all the kinges (that were seruauntes to Hadarezer) saw that they were put to the worse before Israell, they made peace with them, & serued them. And so the Sirians feared to helpe the children of Ammon any moare.
