2:1	Now the days of David drew nigh that he should die; and he charged Solomon his son, saying,
2:2	I go the way of all the earth: be thou strong therefore, and shew thyself a man;
2:3	And keep the charge of the LORD thy God, to walk in his ways, to keep his statutes, and his commandments, and his judgments, and his testimonies, as it is written in the law of Moses, that thou mayest prosper in all that thou doest, and whithersoever thou turnest thyself:
2:4	That the LORD may continue his word which he spake concerning me, saying, If thy children take heed to their way, to walk before me in truth with all their heart and with all their soul, there shall not fail thee (said he) a man on the throne of Israel.
2:5	Moreover thou knowest also what Joab the son of Zeruiah did to me, and what he did to the two captains of the hosts of Israel, unto Abner the son of Ner, and unto Amasa the son of Jether, whom he slew, and shed the blood of war in peace, and put the blood of war upon his girdle that was about his loins, and in his shoes that were on his feet.
2:6	Do therefore according to thy wisdom, and let not his hoar head go down to the grave in peace.
2:7	But shew kindness unto the sons of Barzillai the Gileadite, and let them be of those that eat at thy table: for so they came to me when I fled because of Absalom thy brother.
2:8	And, behold, thou hast with thee Shimei the son of Gera, a Benjamite of Bahurim, which cursed me with a grievous curse in the day when I went to Mahanaim: but he came down to meet me at Jordan, and I sware to him by the LORD, saying, I will not put thee to death with the sword.
2:9	Now therefore hold him not guiltless: for thou art a wise man, and knowest what thou oughtest to do unto him; but his hoar head bring thou down to the grave with blood.
2:10	So David slept with his fathers, and was buried in the city of David.
2:11	And the days that David reigned over Israel were forty years: seven years reigned he in Hebron, and thirty and three years reigned he in Jerusalem.
2:12	Then sat Solomon upon the throne of David his father; and his kingdom was established greatly.
2:13	And Adonijah the son of Haggith came to Bathsheba the mother of Solomon. And she said, Comest thou peaceably? And he said, Peaceably.
2:14	He said moreover, I have somewhat to say unto thee. And she said, Say on.
2:15	And he said, Thou knowest that the kingdom was mine, and that all Israel set their faces on me, that I should reign: howbeit the kingdom is turned about, and is become my brother's: for it was his from the LORD.
2:16	And now I ask one petition of thee, deny me not. And she said unto him, Say on.
2:17	And he said, Speak, I pray thee, unto Solomon the king, (for he will not say thee nay,) that he give me Abishag the Shunammite to wife.
2:18	And Bathsheba said, Well; I will speak for thee unto the king.
2:19	Bathsheba therefore went unto king Solomon, to speak unto him for Adonijah. And the king rose up to meet her, and bowed himself unto her, and sat down on his throne, and caused a seat to be set for the king's mother; and she sat on his right hand.
2:20	Then she said, I desire one small petition of thee; I pray thee, say me not nay. And the king said unto her, Ask on, my mother: for I will not say thee nay.
2:21	And she said, Let Abishag the Shunammite be given to Adonijah thy brother to wife.
2:22	And king Solomon answered and said unto his mother, And why dost thou ask Abishag the Shunammite for Adonijah? ask for him the kingdom also; for he is mine elder brother; even for him, and for Abiathar the priest, and for Joab the son of Zeruiah.
2:23	Then king Solomon sware by the LORD, saying, God do so to me, and more also, if Adonijah have not spoken this word against his own life.
2:24	Now therefore, as the LORD liveth, which hath established me, and set me on the throne of David my father, and who hath made me an house, as he promised, Adonijah shall be put to death this day.
2:25	And king Solomon sent by the hand of Benaiah the son of Jehoiada; and he fell upon him that he died.
2:26	And unto Abiathar the priest said the king, Get thee to Anathoth, unto thine own fields; for thou art worthy of death: but I will not at this time put thee to death, because thou barest the ark of the Lord GOD before David my father, and because thou hast been afflicted in all wherein my father was afflicted.
2:27	So Solomon thrust out Abiathar from being priest unto the LORD; that he might fulfil the word of the LORD, which he spake concerning the house of Eli in Shiloh.
2:28	Then tidings came to Joab: for Joab had turned after Adonijah, though he turned not after Absalom. And Joab fled unto the tabernacle of the LORD, and caught hold on the horns of the altar.
2:29	And it was told king Solomon that Joab was fled unto the tabernacle of the LORD; and, behold, he is by the altar. Then Solomon sent Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, saying, Go, fall upon him.
2:30	And Benaiah came to the tabernacle of the LORD, and said unto him, Thus saith the king, Come forth. And he said, Nay; but I will die here. And Benaiah brought the king word again, saying, Thus said Joab, and thus he answered me.
2:31	And the king said unto him, Do as he hath said, and fall upon him, and bury him; that thou mayest take away the innocent blood, which Joab shed, from me, and from the house of my father.
2:32	And the LORD shall return his blood upon his own head, who fell upon two men more righteous and better than he, and slew them with the sword, my father David not knowing thereof, to wit, Abner the son of Ner, captain of the host of Israel, and Amasa the son of Jether, captain of the host of Judah.
2:33	Their blood shall therefore return upon the head of Joab, and upon the head of his seed for ever: but upon David, and upon his seed, and upon his house, and upon his throne, shall there be peace for ever from the LORD.
2:34	So Benaiah the son of Jehoiada went up, and fell upon him, and slew him: and he was buried in his own house in the wilderness.
2:35	And the king put Benaiah the son of Jehoiada in his room over the host: and Zadok the priest did the king put in the room of Abiathar.
2:36	And the king sent and called for Shimei, and said unto him, Build thee an house in Jerusalem, and dwell there, and go not forth thence any whither.
2:37	For it shall be, that on the day thou goest out, and passest over the brook Kidron, thou shalt know for certain that thou shalt surely die: thy blood shall be upon thine own head.
2:38	And Shimei said unto the king, The saying is good: as my lord the king hath said, so will thy servant do. And Shimei dwelt in Jerusalem many days.
2:39	And it came to pass at the end of three years, that two of the servants of Shimei ran away unto Achish son of Maachah king of Gath. And they told Shimei, saying, Behold, thy servants be in Gath.
2:40	And Shimei arose, and saddled his ass, and went to Gath to Achish to seek his servants: and Shimei went, and brought his servants from Gath.
2:41	And it was told Solomon that Shimei had gone from Jerusalem to Gath, and was come again.
2:42	And the king sent and called for Shimei, and said unto him, Did I not make thee to swear by the LORD, and protested unto thee, saying, Know for a certain, on the day thou goest out, and walkest abroad any whither, that thou shalt surely die? and thou saidst unto me, The word that I have heard is good.
2:43	Why then hast thou not kept the oath of the LORD, and the commandment that I have charged thee with?
2:44	The king said moreover to Shimei, Thou knowest all the wickedness which thine heart is privy to, that thou didst to David my father: therefore the LORD shall return thy wickedness upon thine own head;
2:45	And king Solomon shall be blessed, and the throne of David shall be established before the LORD for ever.
2:46	So the king commanded Benaiah the son of Jehoiada; which went out, and fell upon him, that he died. And the kingdom was established in the hand of Solomon.


2:1	ויקרבו ימי דוד למות ויצו את שׁלמה בנו לאמר׃
2:2	אנכי הלך בדרך כל הארץ וחזקת והיית לאישׁ׃
2:3	ושׁמרת את משׁמרת יהוה אלהיך ללכת בדרכיו לשׁמר חקתיו מצותיו ומשׁפטיו ועדותיו ככתוב בתורת משׁה למען תשׂכיל את כל אשׁר תעשׂה ואת כל אשׁר תפנה שׁם׃
2:4	למען יקים יהוה את דברו אשׁר דבר עלי לאמר אם ישׁמרו בניך את דרכם ללכת לפני באמת בכל לבבם ובכל נפשׁם לאמר לא יכרת לך אישׁ מעל כסא ישׂראל׃
2:5	וגם אתה ידעת את אשׁר עשׂה לי יואב בן צרויה אשׁר עשׂה לשׁני שׂרי צבאות ישׂראל לאבנר בן נר ולעמשׂא בן יתר ויהרגם וישׂם דמי מלחמה בשׁלם ויתן דמי מלחמה בחגרתו אשׁר במתניו ובנעלו אשׁר ברגליו׃
2:6	ועשׂית כחכמתך ולא תורד שׂיבתו בשׁלם שׁאל׃
2:7	ולבני ברזלי הגלעדי תעשׂה חסד והיו באכלי שׁלחנך כי כן קרבו אלי בברחי מפני אבשׁלום אחיך׃
2:8	והנה עמך שׁמעי בן גרא בן הימיני מבחרים והוא קללני קללה נמרצת ביום לכתי מחנים והוא ירד לקראתי הירדן ואשׁבע לו ביהוה לאמר אם אמיתך בחרב׃
2:9	ועתה אל תנקהו כי אישׁ חכם אתה וידעת את אשׁר תעשׂה לו והורדת את שׂיבתו בדם שׁאול׃
2:10	וישׁכב דוד עם אבתיו ויקבר בעיר דוד׃
2:11	והימים אשׁר מלך דוד על ישׂראל ארבעים שׁנה בחברון מלך שׁבע שׁנים ובירושׁלם מלך שׁלשׁים ושׁלשׁ שׁנים׃
2:12	ושׁלמה ישׁב על כסא דוד אביו ותכן מלכתו מאד׃
2:13	ויבא אדניהו בן חגית אל בת שׁבע אם שׁלמה ותאמר השׁלום באך ויאמר שׁלום׃
2:14	ויאמר דבר לי אליך ותאמר דבר׃
2:15	ויאמר את ידעת כי לי היתה המלוכה ועלי שׂמו כל ישׂראל פניהם למלך ותסב המלוכה ותהי לאחי כי מיהוה היתה׃
2:16	ועתה שׁאלה אחת אנכי שׁאל מאתך אל תשׁבי את פני ותאמר אליו דבר׃
2:17	ויאמר אמרי נא לשׁלמה המלך כי לא ישׁיב את פניך ויתן לי את אבישׁג השׁונמית לאשׁה׃
2:18	ותאמר בת שׁבע טוב אנכי אדבר עליך אל המלך׃
2:19	ותבא בת שׁבע אל המלך שׁלמה לדבר לו על אדניהו ויקם המלך לקראתה וישׁתחו לה וישׁב על כסאו וישׂם כסא לאם המלך ותשׁב לימינו׃
2:20	ותאמר שׁאלה אחת קטנה אנכי שׁאלת מאתך אל תשׁב את פני ויאמר לה המלך שׁאלי אמי כי לא אשׁיב את פניך׃
2:21	ותאמר יתן את אבישׁג השׁנמית לאדניהו אחיך לאשׁה׃
2:22	ויען המלך שׁלמה ויאמר לאמו ולמה את שׁאלת את אבישׁג השׁנמית לאדניהו ושׁאלי לו את המלוכה כי הוא אחי הגדול ממני ולו ולאביתר הכהן וליואב בן צרויה׃
2:23	וישׁבע המלך שׁלמה ביהוה לאמר כה יעשׂה לי אלהים וכה יוסיף כי בנפשׁו דבר אדניהו את הדבר הזה׃
2:24	ועתה חי יהוה אשׁר הכינני ויושׁיביני על כסא דוד אבי ואשׁר עשׂה לי בית כאשׁר דבר כי היום יומת אדניהו׃
2:25	וישׁלח המלך שׁלמה ביד בניהו בן יהוידע ויפגע בו וימת׃
2:26	ולאביתר הכהן אמר המלך ענתת לך על שׂדיך כי אישׁ מות אתה וביום הזה לא אמיתך כי נשׂאת את ארון אדני יהוה לפני דוד אבי וכי התענית בכל אשׁר התענה אבי׃
2:27	ויגרשׁ שׁלמה את אביתר מהיות כהן ליהוה למלא את דבר יהוה אשׁר דבר על בית עלי בשׁלה׃
2:28	והשׁמעה באה עד יואב כי יואב נטה אחרי אדניה ואחרי אבשׁלום לא נטה וינס יואב אל אהל יהוה ויחזק בקרנות המזבח׃
2:29	ויגד למלך שׁלמה כי נס יואב אל אהל יהוה והנה אצל המזבח וישׁלח שׁלמה את בניהו בן יהוידע לאמר לך פגע׃
2:30	ויבא בניהו אל אהל יהוה ויאמר אליו כה אמר המלך צא ויאמר לא כי פה אמות וישׁב בניהו את המלך דבר לאמר כה דבר יואב וכה ענני׃
2:31	ויאמר לו המלך עשׂה כאשׁר דבר ופגע בו וקברתו והסירת דמי חנם אשׁר שׁפך יואב מעלי ומעל בית אבי׃
2:32	והשׁיב יהוה את דמו על ראשׁו אשׁר פגע בשׁני אנשׁים צדקים וטבים ממנו ויהרגם בחרב ואבי דוד לא ידע את אבנר בן נר שׂר צבא ישׂראל ואת עמשׂא בן יתר שׂר צבא יהודה׃
2:33	ושׁבו דמיהם בראשׁ יואב ובראשׁ זרעו לעלם ולדוד ולזרעו ולביתו ולכסאו יהיה שׁלום עד עולם מעם יהוה׃
2:34	ויעל בניהו בן יהוידע ויפגע בו וימתהו ויקבר בביתו במדבר׃
2:35	ויתן המלך את בניהו בן יהוידע תחתיו על הצבא ואת צדוק הכהן נתן המלך תחת אביתר׃
2:36	וישׁלח המלך ויקרא לשׁמעי ויאמר לו בנה לך בית בירושׁלם וישׁבת שׁם ולא תצא משׁם אנה ואנה׃
2:37	והיה ביום צאתך ועברת את נחל קדרון ידע תדע כי מות תמות דמך יהיה בראשׁך׃
2:38	ויאמר שׁמעי למלך טוב הדבר כאשׁר דבר אדני המלך כן יעשׂה עבדך וישׁב שׁמעי בירושׁלם ימים רבים׃
2:39	ויהי מקץ שׁלשׁ שׁנים ויברחו שׁני עבדים לשׁמעי אל אכישׁ בן מעכה מלך גת ויגידו לשׁמעי לאמר הנה עבדיך בגת׃
2:40	ויקם שׁמעי ויחבשׁ את חמרו וילך גתה אל אכישׁ לבקשׁ את עבדיו וילך שׁמעי ויבא את עבדיו מגת׃
2:41	ויגד לשׁלמה כי הלך שׁמעי מירושׁלם גת וישׁב׃
2:42	וישׁלח המלך ויקרא לשׁמעי ויאמר אליו הלוא השׁבעתיך ביהוה ואעד בך לאמר ביום צאתך והלכת אנה ואנה ידע תדע כי מות תמות ותאמר אלי טוב הדבר שׁמעתי׃
2:43	ומדוע לא שׁמרת את שׁבעת יהוה ואת המצוה אשׁר צויתי עליך׃
2:44	ויאמר המלך אל שׁמעי אתה ידעת את כל הרעה אשׁר ידע לבבך אשׁר עשׂית לדוד אבי והשׁיב יהוה את רעתך בראשׁך׃
2:45	והמלך שׁלמה ברוך וכסא דוד יהיה נכון לפני יהוה עד עולם׃
2:46	ויצו המלך את בניהו בן יהוידע ויצא ויפגע בו וימת והממלכה נכונה ביד שׁלמה׃


2:1	And draw near do the days of David to die, and he chargeth Solomon his son, saying,
2:2	`I am going in the way of all the earth, and thou hast been strong, and become a man,
2:3	and kept the charge of Jehovah thy God, to walk in His ways, to keep His statutes, His commands, and His judgments, and His testimonies, as it is written in the law of Moses, so that thou dost wisely all that thou dost, and whithersoever thou turnest,
2:4	so that Jehovah doth establish His word which He spake unto me, saying, If thy sons observe their way to walk before Me in truth, with all their heart, and with all their soul; saying, There is not cut off a man of thine from the throne of Israel.
2:5	`And also, thou hast known that which he did to me -- Joab son of Zeruiah -- that which he did to two heads of the hosts of Israel, to Abner son of Ner, and to Amasa son of Jether -- that he slayeth them, and maketh the blood of war in peace, and putteth the blood of war in his girdle, that `is' on his loins, and in his sandals that `are' on his feet;
2:6	and thou hast done according to thy wisdom, and dost not let his old age go down in peace to Sheol.
2:7	`And to the sons of Barzillai the Gileadite thou dost do kindness, and they have been among those eating at thy table, for so they drew near unto me in my fleeing from the face of Absalom thy brother.
2:8	`And lo, with thee `is' Shimei son of Gera, the Benjamite of Bahurim, and he reviled me -- a grievous reviling -- in the day of my going to Mahanaim; and he hath come down to meet me at the Jordan, and I swear to him by Jehovah, saying, I do not put thee to death by the sword;
2:9	and now, acquit him not, for a wise man thou `art', and thou hast known that which thou dost to him, and hast brought down his old age with blood to Sheol.'
2:10	And David lieth down with his fathers, and is buried in the city of David,
2:11	and the days that David hath reigned over Israel `are' forty years, in Hebron he hath reigned seven years, and in Jerusalem he hath reigned thirty and three years.
2:12	And Solomon hath sat on the throne of David his father, and his kingdom is established greatly,
2:13	and Adonijah son of Haggith cometh in unto Bath-Sheba, mother of Solomon, and she saith, `Is thy coming peace?' and he saith, `Peace.'
2:14	And he saith, `I have a word unto thee,' and she saith, `Speak.'
2:15	And he saith, `Thou hast known that the kingdom was mine, and towards me set their faces had all Israel for reigning, and the kingdom is turned round about, and is my brother's, for from Jehovah it was his;
2:16	and now, one petition I am asking of thee -- turn not back my face;' and she saith unto him, `Speak.'
2:17	And he saith, `Speak, I pray thee, to Solomon the king, for he doth not turn back thy face, and he doth give to me Abishag the Shunammite for a wife.'
2:18	And Bath-Sheba saith, `Good; I do speak for thee unto the king.'
2:19	And Bath-Sheba cometh in unto king Solomon to speak to him for Adonijah, and the king riseth to meet her, and boweth himself to her, and sitteth on his throne, and placeth a throne for the mother of the king, and she sitteth at his right hand.
2:20	And she saith, `One small petition I ask of thee, turn not back my face;' and the king saith to her, `Ask, my mother, for I do not turn back thy face.'
2:21	And she saith, `Let Abishag the Shunammite be given to Adonijah thy brother for a wife.'
2:22	And king Solomon answereth and saith to his mother, `And why art thou asking Abishag the Shunammite for Adonijah? also ask for him the kingdom -- for he `is' mine elder brother -- even for him, and for Abiathar the priest, and for Joab son of Zeruiah.'
2:23	And king Solomon sweareth by Jehovah, saying, `Thus doth God to me, and thus He doth add -- surely against his soul hath Adonijah spoken this word;
2:24	and now, Jehovah liveth, who hath established me, and causeth me to sit on the throne of David my father, and who hath made for me an house as He spake -- surely to-day is Adonijah put to death.'
2:25	And king Solomon sendeth by the hand of Benaiah son of Jehoiada, and he falleth upon him, and he dieth.
2:26	And to Abiathar the priest said the king, `To Anathoth go, unto thy fields; for a man of death thou `art', but in this day I do not put thee to death, because thou hast borne the ark of the Lord Jehovah before David my father, and because thou wast afflicted in all that my father was afflicted in.'
2:27	And Solomon casteth out Abiathar from being priest to Jehovah, to fulfil the word of Jehovah which He spake concerning the house of Eli in Shiloh.
2:28	And the report hath come unto Joab -- for Joab hath turned aside after Adonijah, though after Absalom he did not turn aside -- and Joab fleeth unto the tent of Jehovah, and layeth hold on the horns of the altar.
2:29	And it is declared to king Solomon that Joab hath fled unto the tent of Jehovah, and lo, near the altar; and Solomon sendeth Benaiah son of Jehoiada, saying, `Go, fall upon him.'
2:30	And Benaiah cometh in unto the tent of Jehovah, and saith unto him, `Thus said the king, Come out;' and he saith, `Nay, but here I die.' And Benaiah bringeth back the king word, saying, `Thus spake Joab, yea, thus he answered me.'
2:31	And the king saith to him, `Do as he hath spoken, and fall upon him, and thou hast buried him, and turned aside the causeless blood which Joab shed, from off me, and from off the house of my father;
2:32	and Jehovah hath turned back his blood on his own head, who hath fallen on two men more righteous and better than he, and slayeth them with the sword, -- and my father David knew not -- Abner son of Ner, head of the host of Israel, and Amasa son of Jether, head of the host of Judah;
2:33	yea, turned back hath their blood on the head of Joab, and on the head of his seed to the age; and for David, and for his seed, and for his house, and for his throne, there is peace unto the age, from Jehovah.'
2:34	And Benaiah son of Jehoiada goeth up and falleth upon him, and putteth him to death, and he is buried in his own house in the wilderness,
2:35	and the king putteth Benaiah son of Jehoiada in his stead over the host, and Zadok the priest hath the king put in the stead of Abiathar.
2:36	And the king sendeth and calleth for Shimei, and saith to him, `Build for thee a house in Jerusalem, and thou hast dwelt there, and dost not go out thence any where;
2:37	and it hath been, in the day of thy going out, and thou hast passed over the brook Kidron, thou dost certainly know that thou dost surely die -- thy blood is on thy head.'
2:38	And Shimei saith to the king, `The word `is' good; as my lord the king hath spoken so doth thy servant do;' and Shimei dwelleth in Jerusalem many days.
2:39	And it cometh to pass, at the end of three years, that flee do two of the servants of Shimei unto Achish son of Maachah, king of Gath, and they declare to Shimei, saying, `Lo, thy servants `are' in Gath;'
2:40	and Shimei riseth, and saddleth his ass, and goeth to Gath, unto Achish, to seek his servants, and Shimei goeth and bringeth his servants from Gath.
2:41	And it is declared to Solomon that Shimei hath gone from Jerusalem to Gath, and doth return,
2:42	and the king sendeth and calleth for Shimei, and saith unto him, `Have I not caused thee to swear by Jehovah -- and I testify against thee, saying, In the day of thy going out, and thou hast gone anywhere, thou dost certainly know that thou dost surely die; and thou sayest unto me, The word I have heard `is' good?
2:43	and wherefore hast thou not kept the oath of Jehovah, and the charge that I charged upon thee?'
2:44	And the king saith unto Shimei, `Thou hast known all the evil that thy heart hath known, which thou didest to David my father, and Jehovah hath turned back thine evil on thy head,
2:45	and king Solomon `is' blessed, and the throne of David is established before Jehovah unto the age.'
2:46	And the king chargeth Benaiah son of Jehoiada, and he goeth out and falleth on him, and he dieth, and the kingdom is established in the hand of Solomon.
