14:1	At that time Abijah the son of Jeroboam fell sick.
14:2	And Jeroboam said to his wife, Arise, I pray thee, and disguise thyself, that thou be not known to be the wife of Jeroboam; and get thee to Shiloh: behold, there is Ahijah the prophet, which told me that I should be king over this people.
14:3	And take with thee ten loaves, and cracknels, and a cruse of honey, and go to him: he shall tell thee what shall become of the child.
14:4	And Jeroboam's wife did so, and arose, and went to Shiloh, and came to the house of Ahijah. But Ahijah could not see; for his eyes were set by reason of his age.
14:5	And the LORD said unto Ahijah, Behold, the wife of Jeroboam cometh to ask a thing of thee for her son; for he is sick: thus and thus shalt thou say unto her: for it shall be, when she cometh in, that she shall feign herself to be another woman.
14:6	And it was so, when Ahijah heard the sound of her feet, as she came in at the door, that he said, Come in, thou wife of Jeroboam; why feignest thou thyself to be another? for I am sent to thee with heavy tidings.
14:7	Go, tell Jeroboam, Thus saith the LORD God of Israel, Forasmuch as I exalted thee from among the people, and made thee prince over my people Israel,
14:8	And rent the kingdom away from the house of David, and gave it thee: and yet thou hast not been as my servant David, who kept my commandments, and who followed me with all his heart, to do that only which was right in mine eyes;
14:9	But hast done evil above all that were before thee: for thou hast gone and made thee other gods, and molten images, to provoke me to anger, and hast cast me behind thy back:
14:10	Therefore, behold, I will bring evil upon the house of Jeroboam, and will cut off from Jeroboam him that pisseth against the wall, and him that is shut up and left in Israel, and will take away the remnant of the house of Jeroboam, as a man taketh away dung, till it be all gone.
14:11	Him that dieth of Jeroboam in the city shall the dogs eat; and him that dieth in the field shall the fowls of the air eat: for the LORD hath spoken it.
14:12	Arise thou therefore, get thee to thine own house: and when thy feet enter into the city, the child shall die.
14:13	And all Israel shall mourn for him, and bury him: for he only of Jeroboam shall come to the grave, because in him there is found some good thing toward the LORD God of Israel in the house of Jeroboam.
14:14	Moreover the LORD shall raise him up a king over Israel, who shall cut off the house of Jeroboam that day: but what? even now.
14:15	For the LORD shall smite Israel, as a reed is shaken in the water, and he shall root up Israel out of this good land, which he gave to their fathers, and shall scatter them beyond the river, because they have made their groves, provoking the LORD to anger.
14:16	And he shall give Israel up because of the sins of Jeroboam, who did sin, and who made Israel to sin.
14:17	And Jeroboam's wife arose, and departed, and came to Tirzah: and when she came to the threshold of the door, the child died;
14:18	And they buried him; and all Israel mourned for him, according to the word of the LORD, which he spake by the hand of his servant Ahijah the prophet.
14:19	And the rest of the acts of Jeroboam, how he warred, and how he reigned, behold, they are written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel.
14:20	And the days which Jeroboam reigned were two and twenty years: and he slept with his fathers, and Nadab his son reigned in his stead.
14:21	And Rehoboam the son of Solomon reigned in Judah. Rehoboam was forty and one years old when he began to reign, and he reigned seventeen years in Jerusalem, the city which the LORD did choose out of all the tribes of Israel, to put his name there. And his mother's name was Naamah an Ammonitess.
14:22	And Judah did evil in the sight of the LORD, and they provoked him to jealousy with their sins which they had committed, above all that their fathers had done.
14:23	For they also built them high places, and images, and groves, on every high hill, and under every green tree.
14:24	And there were also sodomites in the land: and they did according to all the abominations of the nations which the LORD cast out before the children of Israel.
14:25	And it came to pass in the fifth year of king Rehoboam, that Shishak king of Egypt came up against Jerusalem:
14:26	And he took away the treasures of the house of the LORD, and the treasures of the king's house; he even took away all: and he took away all the shields of gold which Solomon had made.
14:27	And king Rehoboam made in their stead brasen shields, and committed them unto the hands of the chief of the guard, which kept the door of the king's house.
14:28	And it was so, when the king went into the house of the LORD, that the guard bare them, and brought them back into the guard chamber.
14:29	Now the rest of the acts of Rehoboam, and all that he did, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah?
14:30	And there was war between Rehoboam and Jeroboam all their days.
14:31	And Rehoboam slept with his fathers, and was buried with his fathers in the city of David. And his mother's name was Naamah an Ammonitess. And Abijam his son reigned in his stead.


14:1	בעת ההיא חלה אביה בן ירבעם׃
14:2	ויאמר ירבעם לאשׁתו קומי נא והשׁתנית ולא ידעו כי אתי אשׁת ירבעם והלכת שׁלה הנה שׁם אחיה הנביא הוא דבר עלי למלך על העם הזה׃
14:3	ולקחת בידך עשׂרה לחם ונקדים ובקבק דבשׁ ובאת אליו הוא יגיד לך מה יהיה לנער׃
14:4	ותעשׂ כן אשׁת ירבעם ותקם ותלך שׁלה ותבא בית אחיה ואחיהו לא יכל לראות כי קמו עיניו משׂיבו׃
14:5	ויהוה אמר אל אחיהו הנה אשׁת ירבעם באה לדרשׁ דבר מעמך אל בנה כי חלה הוא כזה וכזה תדבר אליה ויהי כבאה והיא מתנכרה׃
14:6	ויהי כשׁמע אחיהו את קול רגליה באה בפתח ויאמר באי אשׁת ירבעם למה זה את מתנכרה ואנכי שׁלוח אליך קשׁה׃
14:7	לכי אמרי לירבעם כה אמר יהוה אלהי ישׂראל יען אשׁר הרימתיך מתוך העם ואתנך נגיד על עמי ישׂראל׃
14:8	ואקרע את הממלכה מבית דוד ואתנה לך ולא היית כעבדי דוד אשׁר שׁמר מצותי ואשׁר הלך אחרי בכל לבבו לעשׂות רק הישׁר בעיני׃
14:9	ותרע לעשׂות מכל אשׁר היו לפניך ותלך ותעשׂה לך אלהים אחרים ומסכות להכעיסני ואתי השׁלכת אחרי גוך׃
14:10	לכן הנני מביא רעה אל בית ירבעם והכרתי לירבעם משׁתין בקיר עצור ועזוב בישׂראל ובערתי אחרי בית ירבעם כאשׁר יבער הגלל עד תמו׃
14:11	המת לירבעם בעיר יאכלו הכלבים והמת בשׂדה יאכלו עוף השׁמים כי יהוה דבר׃
14:12	ואת קומי לכי לביתך בבאה רגליך העירה ומת הילד׃
14:13	וספדו לו כל ישׂראל וקברו אתו כי זה לבדו יבא לירבעם אל קבר יען נמצא בו דבר טוב אל יהוה אלהי ישׂראל בבית ירבעם׃
14:14	והקים יהוה לו מלך על ישׂראל אשׁר יכרית את בית ירבעם זה היום ומה גם עתה׃
14:15	והכה יהוה את ישׂראל כאשׁר ינוד הקנה במים ונתשׁ את ישׂראל מעל האדמה הטובה הזאת אשׁר נתן לאבותיהם וזרם מעבר לנהר יען אשׁר עשׂו את אשׁריהם מכעיסים את יהוה׃
14:16	ויתן את ישׂראל בגלל חטאות ירבעם אשׁר חטא ואשׁר החטיא את ישׂראל׃
14:17	ותקם אשׁת ירבעם ותלך ותבא תרצתה היא באה בסף הבית והנער מת׃
14:18	ויקברו אתו ויספדו לו כל ישׂראל כדבר יהוה אשׁר דבר ביד עבדו אחיהו הנביא׃
14:19	ויתר דברי ירבעם אשׁר נלחם ואשׁר מלך הנם כתובים על ספר דברי הימים למלכי ישׂראל׃
14:20	והימים אשׁר מלך ירבעם עשׂרים ושׁתים שׁנה וישׁכב עם אבתיו וימלך נדב בנו תחתיו׃
14:21	ורחבעם בן שׁלמה מלך ביהודה בן ארבעים ואחת שׁנה רחבעם במלכו ושׁבע עשׂרה שׁנה מלך בירושׁלם העיר אשׁר בחר יהוה לשׂום את שׁמו שׁם מכל שׁבטי ישׂראל ושׁם אמו נעמה העמנית׃
14:22	ויעשׂ יהודה הרע בעיני יהוה ויקנאו אתו מכל אשׁר עשׂו אבתם בחטאתם אשׁר חטאו׃
14:23	ויבנו גם המה להם במות ומצבות ואשׁרים על כל גבעה גבהה ותחת כל עץ רענן׃
14:24	וגם קדשׁ היה בארץ עשׂו ככל התועבת הגוים אשׁר הורישׁ יהוה מפני בני ישׂראל׃
14:25	ויהי בשׁנה החמישׁית למלך רחבעם עלה שׁושׁק מלך מצרים על ירושׁלם׃
14:26	ויקח את אצרות בית יהוה ואת אוצרות בית המלך ואת הכל לקח ויקח את כל מגני הזהב אשׁר עשׂה שׁלמה׃
14:27	ויעשׂ המלך רחבעם תחתם מגני נחשׁת והפקיד על יד שׂרי הרצים השׁמרים פתח בית המלך׃
14:28	ויהי מדי בא המלך בית יהוה ישׂאום הרצים והשׁיבום אל תא הרצים׃
14:29	ויתר דברי רחבעם וכל אשׁר עשׂה הלא המה כתובים על ספר דברי הימים למלכי יהודה׃
14:30	ומלחמה היתה בין רחבעם ובין ירבעם כל הימים׃
14:31	וישׁכב רחבעם עם אבתיו ויקבר עם אבתיו בעיר דוד ושׁם אמו נעמה העמנית וימלך אבים בנו תחתיו׃


14:1	At that time was Abijah son of Jeroboam sick,
14:2	and Jeroboam saith to his wife, `Rise, I pray thee, and change thyself, and they know not that thou `art' wife of Jeroboam, and thou hast gone to Shiloh; lo, there `is' Ahijah the prophet; he spake unto me of `being' king over this people;
14:3	and thou hast taken in thy hand ten loaves, and crumbs, and a bottle of honey, and hast gone in unto him; he doth declare to thee what becometh of the youth.'
14:4	And the wife of Jeroboam doth so, and riseth, and goeth to Shiloh, and entereth the house of Ahijah, and Ahijah is not able to see, for his eyes have stood because of his age.
14:5	And Jehovah said unto Ahijah, `Lo, the wife of Jeroboam is coming to seek a word from thee concerning her son, for he is sick; thus and thus thou dost speak unto her, and it cometh to pass at her coming in, that she is making herself strange.'
14:6	And it cometh to pass, at Ahijah's hearing the sound of her feet `as' she came in to the opening, that he saith, `Come in, wife of Jeroboam, why is this -- thou art making thyself strange? and I am sent unto thee `with' a sharp thing:
14:7	Go, say to Jeroboam, Thus said Jehovah, God of Israel, Because that I have made thee high out of the midst of the people, and appoint thee leader over my people Israel,
14:8	and rend the kingdom from the house of David, and give it to thee, -- and thou hast not been as My servant David who kept My commands, and who walked after Me with all his heart, to do only that which `is' right in Mine eyes,
14:9	and thou dost evil above all who have been before thee, and goest, and makest to thee other gods and molten images to provoke Me to anger, and Me thou hast cast behind thy back:
14:10	`Therefore, lo, I am bringing in evil unto the house of Jeroboam, and have cut off to Jeroboam those sitting on the wall -- shut up and left -- in Israel, and have put away the posterity of the house of Jeroboam, as one putteth away the dung till its consumption;
14:11	him who dieth of Jeroboam in a city do the dogs eat, and him who dieth in a field do fowl of the heavens eat, for Jehovah hath spoken.
14:12	`And thou, rise, go to thy house; in the going in of thy feet to the city -- hath the lad died;
14:13	and all Israel have mourned for him, and buried him, for this one -- by himself -- cometh of Jeroboam unto a grave, because there hath been found in him a good thing towards Jehovah, God of Israel, in the house of Jeroboam.
14:14	`And Jehovah hath raised up for Him a king over Israel who cutteth off the house of Jeroboam this day -- and what? -- even now!
14:15	And Jehovah hath smitten Israel as the reed is moved by the waters, and hath plucked Israel from off this good ground that He gave to their fathers, and scattered them beyond the River, because that they made their shrines, provoking Jehovah to anger;
14:16	and He giveth up Israel because of the sins of Jeroboam that he sinned, and that he caused Israel to sin.'
14:17	And the wife of Jeroboam riseth, and goeth, and cometh to Tirzah; she hath come in to the threshold of the house, and the youth dieth;
14:18	and they bury him, and mourn for him do all Israel, according to the word of Jehovah, that he spake by the hand of His servant Ahijah the prophet.
14:19	And the rest of the matters of Jeroboam, how he fought, and how he reigned, lo, they are written on the book of the Chronicles of the kings of Israel.
14:20	And the days that Jeroboam reigned `are' twenty and two years, and he lieth with his fathers, and reign doth Nadab his son in his stead.
14:21	And Rehoboam son of Solomon hath reigned in Judah; a son of forty and one years `is' Rehoboam in his reigning, and seventeen years he hath reigned in Jerusalem, the city that Jehovah chose to set His name there, out of all the tribes of Israel, and the name of his mother `is' Naamah the Ammonitess.
14:22	And Judah doth the evil thing in the eyes of Jehovah, and they make Him zealous above all that their fathers did by their sins that they have sinned.
14:23	And they build -- also they -- for themselves high places, and standing-pillars, and shrines, on every high height, and under every green tree;
14:24	and also a whoremonger hath been in the land; they have done according to all the abominations of the nations that Jehovah dispossessed from the presence of the sons of Israel.
14:25	And it cometh to pass, in the fifth year of king Rehoboam, gone up hath Shishak king of Egypt against Jerusalem,
14:26	and he taketh the treasures of the house of Jehovah, and the treasures of the house of the king, yea, the whole he hath taken; and he taketh all the shields of gold that Solomon made.
14:27	And king Rehoboam maketh in their stead shields of brass, and hath made `them' a charge on the hand of the heads of the runners, those keeping the opening of the house of the king,
14:28	and it cometh to pass, from the going in of the king to the house of Jehovah, the runners bear them, and have brought them back unto the chamber of the runners.
14:29	And the rest of the matters of Rehoboam, and all that he did, are they not written on the book of the Chronicles of the kings of Judah?
14:30	And war hath been between Rehoboam and Jeroboam all the days;
14:31	and Rehoboam lieth with his fathers, and is buried with his fathers, in the city of David, and the name of his mother `is' Naamah the Ammonitess, and reign doth Abijam his son in his stead.
