1 Kings - Chapter: 17

>
17:1And Eliiah the Tishbite, who was of the inhabitants of Gilead, said vnto Ahab, As the Lord God of Israel liueth, before whome I stand, there shall not be deaw nor raine these yeres, but according to my word.
17:2And the worde of the Lord came vnto him, saying,
17:3Get thee hence, and turne thee Eastward, and hide thy selfe by the brooke Cherith, that is before Iordane.
17:4And it shall bee, that thou shalt drinke of the brooke, and I haue commanded the rauens to feed thee there.
17:5So hee went, and did according vnto the word of the Lord: for hee went and dwelt by the brooke Cherith, that is before Iordane.
17:6And the rauens brought him bread and flesh in the morning, and bread and flesh in the euening: and hee dranke of the brooke.
17:7And it came to passe after a while, that the brooke dryed vp, because there had beene no raine in the land.
17:8And the word of the Lord came vnto him, saying,
17:9Arise, get thee to Zarephath, which belongeth to Zidon, and dwell there: behold, I haue commaunded a widow woman there to sustaine thee.
17:10So he arose, and went to Zarephath: and when he came to the gate of the citie, behold, the widow woman was there gathering of stickes: and he called to her, and said, Fetch me, I pray thee, a little water in a vessell, that I may drinke.
17:11And as shee was going to fetch it, he called to her, and said, Bring mee, I pray thee, a morsell of bread in thine hand.
17:12And she said, As the Lord thy God liueth, I haue not a cake, but an handfull of meale in a barrell, and a little oyle in a cruse: and behold, I am gathering two stickes, that I may goe in, and dresse it for me and my sonne, that we may eate it, and die.
17:13And Eliiah said vnto her, Feare not, goe, and doe as thou hast said: but make mee thereof a little cake first, and bring it vnto mee, and after make for thee, and for thy sonne.
17:14For thus saith the Lord God of Israel, The barrell of meale shall not waste, neither shall the cruse of oile faile, vntill the day that the Lord sendeth raine vpon the earth.
17:15And shee went, and did according to the saying of Eliiah: and she, and he, and her house did eate many dayes.
17:16And the barrell of meale wasted not, neither did the cruse of oyle faile, according to the word of the Lord, which he spake by Eliiah.
17:17And it came to passe after these things, that the sonne of the woman, the mistresse of the house, fell sicke, and his sickenesse was so sore, that there was no breath left in him.
17:18And shee sayd vnto Eliiah, What haue I to doe with thee? O thou man of God! Art thou come vnto me to call my sinne to remembrance, and to slay my sonne?
17:19And he said vnto her, Giue me thy sonne. And he tooke him out of her bosome, and caried him vp into a loft, where he abode, and laide him vpon his owne bed.
17:20And hee cried vnto the Lord, and said, O Lord my God, hast thou also brought euill vpon the widow, with whom I soiourne, by slaying her sonne?
17:21And he stretched himselfe vpon the child three times, and cried vnto the Lord, and said; O Lord my God, I pray thee, let this childes soule come into him againe.
17:22And the Lord heard the voice of Eliiah, and the soule of the child came into him againe, and he reuiued.
17:23And Eliiah tooke the childe, and brought him downe out of the chamber into the house, and deliuered him vnto his mother: and Eliiah said, See, thy sonne liueth.
17:24And the woman said to Eliiah, Now by this I know, that thou art a man of God, and that the word of the Lord in thy mouth is trueth.

17:1And Eliiah the Tishbite one of the inhabitats of Gilead sayde vnto Ahab, As the Lord God of Israel liueth, before whom I stand, there shall be neither dewe nor rayne these yeeres, but according to my worde.
17:2And the worde of the Lord came vnto him, saying,
17:3Go hence, and turne thee Eastwarde, and hide thy selfe in the riuer Cherith, that is ouer against Iorden,
17:4And thou shalt drinke of the riuer: and I haue comanded the rauens to feede thee there.
17:5So he went and did according vnto the word of the Lord: for he went, and remained by the riuer Cherith that is ouer against Iorden.
17:6And the rauens brought him bread and flesh in the morning, and bread and flesh in the euening, and he dranke of the riuer.
17:7And after a while the riuer dryed vp, because there fell no rayne vpon the earth.
17:8And the worde of the Lord came vnto him, saying,
17:9Vp, and get thee to Zarephath, which is in Zidon, and remaine there: beholde, I haue commanded a widow there to sustaine thee.
17:10So he arose, and went to Zarephath: and when he came to the gate of the citie, beholde, the widowe was there gathering stickes: and he called her, and sayde, Bring me, I pray thee, a litle water in a vessel, that I may drinke.
17:11And as she was going to fet it, he called to her, and sayde, Bring me, I pray thee, a morsell of bread in thine hand.
17:12And shee sayde, As the Lord thy God liueth, I haue not a cake, but euen an handfull of meale in a barrel, and a litle oyle in a cruse: and behold, I am gathering a fewe stickes for to go in, and dresse it for me and my sonne, that we may eate it, and dye.
17:13And Eliiah said vnto her, Feare not, come, do as thou hast sayd, but make me thereof a litle cake first of all, and bring it vnto mee, and afterward make for thee, and thy sonne.
17:14For thus saith the Lord God of Israel, The meale in the barrel shall not be wasted, neither shall the oyle in the cruse be diminished, vnto the time that the Lord send rayne vpon the earth.
17:15So she went, and did as Eliiah sayd, and she did eate: so did he and her house for a certaine time.
17:16The barrell of the meale wasted not, nor the oyle was spent out of the cruse, according to the worde of the Lord, which he spake by the hand of Eliiah.
17:17And after these things, the sonne of the wife of the house fell sicke, and his sicknesse was so sore, that there was no breath left in him.
17:18And she said vnto Eliiah, What haue I to do with thee, O thou man of God? art thou come vnto me to call my sinne to remembrance, and to slay my sonne?
17:19And he said vnto her, Giue me thy sonne. and he tooke him out of her bosome, and caryed him vp into a chamber, where he abode, and laid him vpon his owne bed.
17:20Then he called vnto the Lord, and sayde, O Lord my God, hast thou punished also this widowe, with whome I soiourne, by killing her sonne?
17:21And he stretched himselfe vpon the childe three times, and called vnto the Lord, and saide, O Lord my God, I pray thee, let this childes soule come into him againe.
17:22Then the Lord heard the voyce of Eliiah, and the soule of the child came into him againe, and he reuiued.
17:23And Eliiah tooke the childe, and brought him downe out of the chamber into the house, and deliuered him vnto his mother, and Eliiah sayd, Behold, thy sonne liueth.
17:24And the woman saide vnto Eliiah, Now I knowe that thou art a man of God, and that the worde of the Lord in thy mouth is true.

17:1And Elia the Thesbite (whych was of the enhabiters of Gilead) sayde vnto Ahab: as truly as the Lord God of Israel lyueth, before whome I stande there shalbe nether dewe nor rayne these yeres, but accordynge to my worde.
17:2And the worde of the Lorde came vnto him, sayeng:
17:3gett the hence, & turne the estwarde, & hide thy selfe in the brooke Cherith, that is it that lyeth before Iordan:
17:4Thou shalt drynck of the ryuer, & I haue commaunded the rauens to fede the there.
17:5And so he went, & dyd according vnto the worde of the Lord: For he went, & dwelt by the brooke Cherith, that is before Iordan.
17:6And the rauens brought him bread & fleshe in the mornyng, & lykewise bread & flessh in the euening, & he drancke of the brooke.
17:7And it chaunced after a while, that the brooke dryed vp, because ther fell no rayne vpon the erth
17:8And the word of the Lorde came vnto him, sayeng:
17:9vp & gett the to Zarphath, whych is in Sido, & dwell there. Beholde I haue commaunded a wydowe there to sustayne the.
17:10So he arose, & went to Zarphath. And when he came to the gate of the cytie, the wedow was there, geathering stickes. And he called to her, & sayd: fet me I praye the, a lytle water in a vessell, that I maye dryncke.
17:11And as she was goyng to fett it, he cryed after her, and sayd: bryng me I praye the, a morsell of bread also in thyne hande.
17:12She sayd: As truely as the Lord thy God lyueth, I haue no bread readye, but euen an handfull of mele in a barell, and a lyttle oyle in a cruse. And behold, I am gathering two stickes for to go in, & dresse it for me and my sonne, that we maye eate it, and dye.
17:13And Elia sayde vnto her: feare not, come & do as thou hast sayde: but make me therof a lyttle cake fyrst of all, & bringe it vnto me: and afterwarde make for the and thy sonne.
17:14For thus sayth the Lorde God of Israel: the meale in the barell shall not be wasted nether shall the oyle in the cruse be mynisshed, vntyll the Lorde haue sent rayne vpon the erthe.
17:15And she went, and dyd as Elia sayde. And she & he & her house dyd eate a good space,
17:16and the meale wasted not out of the barell, nether was the oyle spent out of the cruse accordyng to the worde of the Lorde, which he spake by the hande of Elia.
17:17And after these thynges, it happened, that the sonne of the wyfe of the house fell sycke. And his sycknesse was so sore, that there was no breath left in him.
17:18And she sayde vnto Elia: what haue I to do with the, O thou man of God? art thou come vnto me, to call my synne agayne to remembraunce, & to slaye my sonne?
17:19He sayde vnto her: geue me thy sonne. And he toke him out of her lappe, and caryed him vp into a lofte wher he abode, & layde him vpon his awne bedd,
17:20& called vnto the Lorde, and sayde: O Lorde my God, hast thou punysshed also this wedowe (wt whom I dwell as a stranger) & hast slayne her sonne?
17:21And he stretched hym selfe vpon the chylde thre tymes, & called vnto the Lorde, and sayd: O Lorde my God, let this childes soule come into him agayne.
17:22And the Lorde hearde the voyce of Elia, and the soule of the chylde came into hym agayne, & he reuyued.
17:23And Elia toke the boye, and brought hym downe out of the chambre into the house, & delyuered hym vnto hys mother, and Elia sayde: beholde, thy sonne lyueth.
17:24And the woman sayde vnto Elia: nowe I knowe, that thou art a man of God, and that the worde of the Lorde in thy mouth, is true.
