1 Kings - Chapter: 16

>
16:1Then the word of the Lord came to Iehu the sonne of Hanani, against Baasha, saying,
16:2Forasmuch as I exalted thee out of the dust, and made thee Prince ouer my people Israel, and thou hast walked in the way of Ieroboam, and hast made my people Israel to sinne, to prouoke mee to anger with their sinnes:
16:3Behold, I will take away the posteritie of Baasha, and the posteritie of his house: and will make thy house like the house of Ieroboam the sonne of Nebat.
16:4Him that dieth of Baasha in the citie, shall the dogs eate: and him that dieth of his in the fields, shall the foules of the aire eate.
16:5Now the rest of the actes of Baasha, and what he did, and his might, are they not written in the booke of the Chronicles of the kings of Israel?
16:6So Baasha slept with his fathers, and was buried in Tirzah, and Elah his sonne reigned in his stead.
16:7And also by the hand of the prophet Iehu the sonne of Hanani, came the word of the Lord against Baasha, and against his house, euen for all the euill that hee did in the sight of the Lord, in prouoking him to anger with the worke of his hands, in being like the house of Ieroboam, and because he killed him.
16:8In the twentieth and sixt yeere of Asa king of Iudah, began Elah the sonne of Baasha to reigne ouer Israel in Tirzah, two yeeres.
16:9And his seruant Zimri (captaine of halfe his charets) conspired against him as he was in Tirzah drinking himselfe drunke in the house of Arza steward of his house in Tirzah.
16:10And Zimri went in and smote him, and killed him, in the twentie and seuenth yeere of Asa king of Iudah, and reigned in his stead.
16:11And it came to passe when hee began to reigne, assoone as hee sate on his throne, that he slew all the house of Baasha: hee left him not one that pisseth against a wall, neither of his kinsfolkes, nor of his friends.
16:12Thus did Zimri destroy all the house of Baasha, according to the word of the Lord, which he spake against Baasha by Iehu the prophet,
16:13For all the sinnes of Baasha and the sinnes of Elah his sonne, by which they sinned, and by which they made Israel to sinne, in prouoking the Lord God of Israel to anger with their vanities.
16:14Now the rest of the actes of Elah, and all that he did, are they not written in the booke of the Chronicles of the kings of Israel?
16:15In the twentie and seuenth yeere of Asa king of Iudah, did Zimri reigne seuen dayes in Tirzah: and the people were encamped against Gibbethon which belonged to the Philistines.
16:16And the people that were encamped, heard say, Zimri hath conspired, and hath also slaine the king: Wherfore all Israel made Omri the captaine of the hoste, king ouer Israel that day, in the campe.
16:17And Omri went vp from Gibbethon, and all Israel with him, and they besieged Tirzah.
16:18And it came to passe when Zimri saw that the citie was taken, that hee went into the palace of the kings house, and burnt the kings house ouer him with fire, and died,
16:19For his sinnes which he sinned in doing euill in the sight of the Lord, in walking in the way of Ieroboam, and in his sinne which he did, to make Israel sinne.
16:20Now the rest of the acts of Zimri, and his treason that hee wrought, are they not written in the booke of the Chronicles of the kings of Israel?
16:21Then were the people of Israel diuided into two parts: halfe of the people followed Tibni the sonne of Ginath, to make him king: and halfe followed Omri.
16:22But the people that followed Omri preuailed against the people that followed Tibni the sonne of Ginath: so Tibni died, and Omri reigned.
16:23In the thirtie and one yeere of Asa king of Iudah, began Omri to reigne ouer Israel twelue yeeres: sixe yeeres reigned he in Tirzah.
16:24And hee bought the hill Samaria of Shemer, for two talents of siluer, and built on the hill, and called the name of the citie which hee built, after the name of Shemer, owner of the hill, Samaria.
16:25But Omri wrought euil in the eyes of the Lord, and did worse then all that were before him.
16:26For he walked in all the way of Ieroboam the son of Nebat, and in his sinne wherewith hee made Israel to sinne, to prouoke the Lord God of Israel to anger with their vanities.
16:27Now the rest of the acts of Omri, which he did, and his might that he shewed, are they not written in the booke of the Chronicles of the kings of Israel?
16:28So Omri slept with his fathers, and was buried in Samaria, and Ahab his sonne reigned in his stead.
16:29And in the thirtie and eight yeere of Asa king of Iudah, began Ahab the sonne of Omri to reigne ouer Israel, and Ahab the sonne of Omri reigned ouer Israel in Samaria, twentie and two yeeres.
16:30And Ahab the sonne of Omri did euill in the sight of the Lord, aboue all that were before him.
16:31And it came to passe, as if it had beene a light thing for him to walke in the sinnes of Ieroboam the sonne of Nebat; that hee tooke to wife Iezebel the daughter of Ethbaal king of the Zidonians, and went and serued Baal, and worshipped him.
16:32And hee reared vp an Altar for Baal, in the house of Baal, which hee had built in Samaria.
16:33And Ahab made a groue, and Ahab did more to prouoke the Lord God of Israel to anger, then all the kings of Israel that were before him.
16:34In his dayes did Hiel the Bethelite build Iericho: he laid the foundation therof in Abiram his first borne, and set vp the gates thereof in his yongest sonne Segub, according to the word of the Lord, which hee spake by Ioshua the sonne of Nun.

16:1Then the word of the Lord came to Iehu the sonne of Hanani against Baasha, saying,
16:2Forasmuch as I exalted thee out of the dust, and made thee captaine ouer my people Israel, and thou hast walked in the way of Ieroboam, and hast made my people Israel to sinne, to prouoke me with their sinnes,
16:3Beholde, I will take away the posteritie of Baasha, and the posteritie of his house, and will make thine house like the house of Ieroboam the sonne of Nebat.
16:4He that dyeth of Baashas stocke in the citie, him shall the dogs eate: and that man of him which dyeth in the fieldes, shall the foules of the ayre eate.
16:5And the rest of the actes of Baasha and what he did, and his power, are they not written in the booke of the Chronicles of the kings of Israel?
16:6So Baasha slept with his fathers, and was buryed in Tirzah, and Elah his sonne reigned in his steade.
16:7And also by the hande of Iehu the sonne of Hanani the Prophet, came the worde of the Lord to Baasha, and to his house, that he shoulde be like the house of Ieroboam, euen for all the wickednes that he did in the sight of the Lord, in prouoking him with the worke of his hands, and because he killed him.
16:8In the sixe and twentie yeere of Asa king of Iudah began Elah ye sonne of Baasha to reigne ouer Israel in Tirzah, and reigned two yeere.
16:9And his seruant Zimri, captaine of halfe his charets, conspired against him, as he was in Tirzah drinking, til he was drunken in the house of Arza steward of his house in Tirzah.
16:10And Zimri came and smote him and killed him, in the seuen and twentie yeere of Asa king of Iudah, and reigned in his stead.
16:11And when he was King, and sate on his throne, he slew al the house of Baasha, not leauing thereof one to pisse against a wall, neither of his kinsfolkes nor of his friendes.
16:12So did Zimri destroy all the house of Baasha, according to the word of the Lord which he spake against Baasha by the hande of Iehu the Prophet,
16:13For all the sinnes of Baasha, and sinnes of Elah his sonne, which they sinned and made Israel to sinne, and prouoked the Lord God of Israel with their vanities.
16:14And the rest of the actes of Elah, and all that he did, are they not written in the booke of the Chronicles of the Kings of Israel?
16:15In the seuen and twentie yeere of Asa King of Iudah did Zimri reigne seuen dayes in Tirzah, and the people was then in campe against Gibbethon, which belonged to the Philistims.
16:16And the people of the hoste heard saye, Zimri hath conspired, and hath also slayne the King. Wherefore all Israel made Omri the captaine of the hoste, king ouer Israel that same day, euen in the hoste.
16:17Then Omri went vp from Gibbethon, and all Israel with him, and they besieged Tirzah.
16:18And when Zimri saw, that the citie was taken, he went into the palace of the Kings house, and burnt himselfe, and the Kings house with fire, and so dyed,
16:19For his sinnes which hee sinned, in doing that which is euil in the sight of the Lord, in walking in the way of Ieroboam, and in his sinnes which he did, causing Israel to sinne.
16:20And the rest of the actes of Zimri, and his treason that hee wrought, are they not written in the booke of the Chronicles of the Kinges of Israel?
16:21Then were the people of Israel deuided into two partes: for halfe the people followed Tibni the sonne of Ginath to make him King, and the other halfe followed Omri.
16:22But the people that folowed Omri, preuayled against the people that followed Tibni the sonne of Ginath: so Tibni dyed, and Omri reigned.
16:23In the one and thirtie yeere of Asa King of Iudah bega Omri to reigne ouer Israel, and reigned twelue yeere. Sixe yeere reigned he in Tirzah.
16:24And he bought the mountaine Samaria of one Shemer for two talents of siluer, and buylt in the mountaine, and called the name of the citie, which he buylt, after the name of Shemer lord of the mountaine, Samaria.
16:25But Omri did euil in the eyes of the Lord, and did worse then all that were before him.
16:26For he walked in all the way of Ieroboam the sonne of Nebat, and in his sinnes wherewith he made Israel to sinne in prouoking the Lord God of Israel with their vanities.
16:27And the rest of the actes of Omri, that hee did, and his strength that he shewed, are they not written in the booke of the Chronicles of the Kings of Israel?
16:28And Omri slept with his fathers, and was buryed in Samaria: and Ahab his sonne reigned in his stead.
16:29Nowe Ahab the sonne of Omri began to reigne ouer Israel, in the eyght and thirtie yeere of Asa king of Iudah: and Ahab the sonne of Omri reigned ouer Israel in Samaria two and twenty yere.
16:30And Ahab the sonne of Omri did worse in ye sight of the Lord then al that were before him.
16:31For was it a light thing for him to walke in the sinnes of Ieroboam the sonne of Nebat, except hee tooke Iezebel also the daughter of Ethbaal King of the Zidonians to wife, and went and serued Baal, and worshipped him?
16:32Also he reared vp an altar to Baal in the house of Baal, which he had buylt in Samaria.
16:33And Ahab made a groue, and Ahab proceeded, and did prouoke the Lord God of Israel more then all the kings of Israel that were before him.
16:34In his dayes did Hiel the Bethelite buylde Iericho: he layed the foundation thereof in Abiram his eldest sonne, and set vp the gates thereof in his yongest sonne Segub, according to the worde of the Lord which he spake by Ioshua the sonne of Nun.

16:1Then the worde of the Lorde came to Iehu the sonne of Hanani agaynst Baasa, sayeng:
16:2for as moche as I exalted the out of the dust, & made the captayne ouer my people Israel, and thou hast walked in the waye of Ieroboam, and hast made my people Israel to synne, to angre me wt theyr synnes:
16:3Beholde, I wyll roote out the posterite of Baasa, and the posterite of hys house, and wyll make hys house lyke the house of Ieroboam the sonne of Nebat.
16:4That man of Baasa whych dyeth in the cytie, him shall the dogges eate: and that man of hym whych dyeth in the feldes, shall the foules of the ayre eate.
16:5The rest of the wordes that concerne Baasa, & what he dyd, & his power, are they not written in the boke of the chronicles of the kynges of Israel?
16:6And so Baasa slepte wt hys fathers, & was buried in Thirza. And Ela his sonne raygned in his steade.
16:7And by the hande of the prophete Iehu the sonne of Hanani, came the worde of the Lorde agaynst Baasa, and agaynst his house, & agaynst all the wyckednesse that he dyd in the syght of the Lorde (in angringe him wt the worke of his awne handes) that he shulde be lyke the house of Ieroboam, & because he kylled hym.
16:8The .xxvj. yere of Asa kynge of Iuda beganne Ela the sonne of Baasa to raygne ouer Israel in Thirza, two yere.
16:9And his seruaunt Zimri (which was captayne of halfe his charettes) conspired agaynst hym, as he was in Thirza drynckynge: and was droncken in the house of Arza stuard of hys house in Thirza.
16:10And Zimri came, and smote him, and kylled hym in the .xxvij. yere of Asa kynge of Iuda, and raygned in hys steade.
16:11And it fortuned that whan he was kynge and satt on hys seate, he slue all the house of Baasa, not leauynge therof, one to pisse agaynst a wall: Yee, he slue hys kynsfolkes and frendes, also.
16:12And thus dyd Zimri destroye all the house of Baasa, accordynge to the worde of the Lorde, whych he spake agaynst Baasa by the hande of Iehu the prophet,
16:13for all the synnes of Baasa & synnes of Ela hys sonne, whych they synned, and made Israel to synne, and angre the Lord God of Israel with their vanities.
16:14The rest of the wordes that concerne Ela, & all he dyd, are they not wrytten in the boke of the Chronicles of the kynges of Israel?
16:15In the .xxvij. yere of Asa kynge of Iuda, dyd Zimri raygne .vij. dayes in Thirza, and the people was then in the hoost besegynge Gebethon a citie of the Philistines.
16:16And the people in the hoost heard one saye: Zimri hath conspired, & slayne the kynge: Wherfore, all they of Israell made Amri (the captayne of the hoost) kyng ouer Israel that same daye, euen in the hoost.
16:17And Amri departed vp from Gibbethon, and all Israel with hym, & they beseged Thirza.
16:18And when Zimri sawe that the citie must nedes be taken, he went into the palayse of the kynges house, and burnt him selfe and the kynges house wt fyre, and so dyed,
16:19for his synnes whych he synned, in doynge that which is euell in the syght of the Lorde, and in walkynge in the waye of Ieroboam and in hys synnes whych he dyd, and in that he made Israel to synne.
16:20The rest of the wordes that concerne Zimri and the treason that he wrought, are they not wrytten in the boke of the Chronicles of the kynges of Israel?
16:21Then were the people of Israel deuyded into two partes, for halfe the people folowed Thibni the sonne of Ginath, makynge hym kynge: & the other halfe folowed Amri.
16:22But the people that folowed Amri, preuayled agaynst the people that folowed Thibni the sonne of Ginath. And so Thibni dyed, and Amri raygned.
16:23In the .xxxi. yere of Asa kynge of Iuda, beganne Amri to raygne ouer Israel .xii. yere. Sixe yere raygned he in Thirza.
16:24He bought the hyll Sohomron of one Schemar for two talentes of syluer, and buylt in the hill, and called the name of the cytie whych he buylt, after the name of Schemar whych had bene owner of the hyll Schomron.
16:25But Amri wrought that which is euell in the eyes of the Lorde, and dyd worsse then all that were before hym.
16:26For he walked in all the waye of Ieroboam the sonne of Nebat, & in hys synnes, that made Israel synne, to anger the Lorde God of Israel wt their vanyties.
16:27The rest of the wordes that concerne Amri, & all that he dyd, & his strength that he shewed, are they not written in the boke of the chronicles of the kynges of Israel?
16:28And so Amri slepte wt hys fathers and was buryed in Schemaron, and Ahab his sonne raygned in hys steade.
16:29In the .xxxviij. yere of Asa kynge of Iuda, beganne Ahab the sonne of Amri to raygne ouer Israel, and the same Ahab the sonne of Amri raygned ouer Israell in Samaria .xxij. yere.
16:30And Ahab the sonne of Amri dyd euell in the syght of the Lord, aboue all that were before.
16:31For it semed vnto hym but a lyght thinge to walke in the synnes of Ieroboam the sonne of Nebat. He toke Iezabel also the daughter of Ethbaal kynge of the Sidonites to wyfe, and went and serued Baal, & worshypped hym.
16:32And he reared vp an aultare for Baal in the temple of Baal, whych he had buylded in Schomron.
16:33And Ahab made groues, and proceded further in angrynge the Lorde God of Israel then all the kynges of Israel that were before hym.
16:34In his dayes dyd Hiel of Bethel buylde Iericho. And it coste him Abiram his eldest sonne when he layde the foundacion, & his youngest sonne Segub, when he sett vp the gates, according vnto the worde of the Lord which he spake by Iosua the sonne of Nun.
