1 Kings - Chapter: 22

>
22:1And they continued three yeeres without warre betweene Syria and Israel.
22:2And it came to passe on the third yere, that Iehoshaphat the King of Iudah came downe to the king of Israel.
22:3(And the king of Israel said vnto his seruants, Know ye that Ramoth in Gilead is ours, and wee be still, and take it not out of the hand of the king of Syria?)
22:4And hee said vnto Iehoshaphat, Wilt thou goe with me to battel to Ramoth Gilead? And Iehoshaphat said to the king of Israel, I am as thou art, my people as thy people, my horses as thy horses.
22:5And Iehoshaphat said vnto the king of Israel, Enquire, I pray thee, at the word of the Lord to day.
22:6Then the king of Israel gathered the prophets together about foure hundred men, and said vnto them, Shall I goe against Ramoth Gilead to battell, or shall I forbeare? And they said, Goe vp, for the Lord shall deliuer it into the hand of the king.
22:7And Iehoshaphat said, Is there not here a Prophet of the Lord besides, that we might enquire of him?
22:8And the king of Israel said vnto Iehoshaphat, There is yet one man, (Micaiah the sonne of Imlah) by whom we may enquire of the Lord; but I hate him, for he doth not prophesie good concerning me, but euill. And Iehoshaphat said, Let not the King say so.
22:9Then the king of Israel called an Officer, and said, Hasten hither Micaiah the sonne of Imlah.
22:10And the King of Israel and Iehoshaphat the King of Iudah sate each on his throne, hauing put on their robes, in a voyd place in the entrance of the gate of Samaria, and all the Prophets prophecied before them.
22:11And Zedekiah the sonne of Chenaanah made him hornes of yron: and he sayd, Thus saith the Lord, With these shalt thou push the Syrians, vntill thou haue consumed them.
22:12And all the Prophets prophecied so, saying; Goe vp to Ramoth Gilead, and prosper: for the Lord shall deliuer it into the kings hand.
22:13And the messenger that was gone to call Micaiah, spake vnto him, saying, Behold now, the words of the prophets declare good vnto the King with one mouth: let thy word, I pray thee, bee like the word of one of them, and speake that which is good.
22:14And Micaiah sayde, As the Lord liueth, what the Lord saith vnto me, that will I speake.
22:15So he came to the king, and the king sayd vnto him, Micaiah, shall wee goe against Ramoth Gilead to battell, or shall we forbeare? And he answered him, Go, and prosper: for the Lord shall deliuer it into the hand of the king.
22:16And the king said vnto him, How many times shall I adiure thee, that thou tell me nothing but that which is true, in the Name of the Lord ?
22:17And hee sayd, I saw all Israel scattered vpon the hilles, as sheepe that haue not a shepheard. And the Lord said, These haue no master, let them returne euery man to his house in peace.
22:18And the King of Israel said vnto Iehoshaphat, Did I not tell thee, that he would prophecie no good concerning me, but euill?
22:19And he said, Heare thou therefore the word of the Lord: I sawe the Lord sitting on his Throne, and all the hoste of heauen standing by him, on his right hand and on his left.
22:20And the Lord said, Who shall perswade Ahab, that hee may goe vp and fall at Ramoth Gilead? And one sayd on this manner, and another said on that manner.
22:21And there came forth a spirit, and stood before the Lord, and said, I will perswade him.
22:22And the Lord said vnto him, Wherewith? And hee sayd, I will goe foorth, and I will be a lying spirit in the mouth of all his prophets. And he said, Thou shalt perswade him, and preuaile also: Goe forth, and doe so.
22:23Now therfore behold, the Lord hath put a lying spirit in the mouth of all these thy prophets, and the Lord hath spoken euill concerning thee.
22:24But Zedekiah the sonne of Chenaanah went neere, and smote Micaiah on the cheeke, and said, Which way went the Spirit of the Lord from me, to speake vnto thee?
22:25And Micaiah sayde, Beholde, thou shalt see in that day, when thou shalt goe into an inner chamber, to hide thy selfe.
22:26And the King of Israel sayde, Take Micaiah, and cary him backe vnto Amon the gouernour of the citie, and to Ioash the kings sonne:
22:27And say, Thus sayth the King, Put this fellow in the prison, and feede him with bread of affliction, and with water of afflictio, vntil I come in peace.
22:28And Micaiah saide, If thou returne at all in peace, the Lord hath not spoken by me. And he said, Hearken, O people, euery one of you.
22:29So the King of Israel, and Iehoshaphat the king of Iudah, went vp to Ramoth Gilead.
22:30And the king of Israel said vnto Iehoshaphat, I wil disguise my selfe, & enter into the battell, but put thou on thy robes. And the King of Israel disguised himselfe, & went into the battell.
22:31But the King of Syria commanded his thirtie and two Captaines that had rule ouer his charets, saying, Fight neither with small nor great, saue only with the king of Israel.
22:32And it came to passe, when the captaines of the charets saw Iehoshaphat, that they said, Surely it is the king of Israel. And they turned aside to fight against him: and Iehoshaphat cryed out.
22:33And it came to passe, when the captaines of the charets perceiued that it was not the king of Israel, that they turned backe from pursuing him.
22:34And a certaine man drew a bow at a venture, and smote the king of Israel betweene the ioynts of the harnesse: wherefore hee sayd vnto the driuer of his charet, Turne thine hand, and cary me out of the hoste, for I am wounded.
22:35And the battell increased that day: and the king was stayed vp in his charet against the Syrians, and died at euen: and the blood ranne out of the wound, into the mids of the charet.
22:36And there went a proclamation throughout the hoste, about the going downe of the Sunne, saying, Euery man to his citie, and euery man to his owne countrey.
22:37So the King died, and was brought to Samaria, and they buried the king in Samaria.
22:38And one washed the charet in the poole of Samaria, and the dogges licked vp his blood, and they washed his armour, according vnto the word of the Lord which he spake.
22:39Now the rest of the actes of Ahab, and all that he did, and the Iuory house which he made, and all the cities that he built, are they not written in the booke of the Chronicles of the Kings of Israel?
22:40So Ahab slept with his fathers, and Ahaziah his sonne reigned in his stead.
22:41And Iehoshaphat the sonne of Asa began to reigne ouer Iudah in the fourth yeere of Ahab King of Israel.
22:42Iehoshaphat was thirtie and fiue yeeres olde when hee began to reigne, and he reigned twentie and fiue yeeres in Ierusalem: and his mothers name was Azubah the daughter of Shilhi.
22:43And he walked in all the wayes of Asa his father, hee turned not aside from it, doing that which was right in the eyes of the Lord: neuerthelesse, the high places were not taken away: for the people offered and burnt incense yet in the high places.
22:44And Iehoshaphat made peace with the king of Israel.
22:45Now the rest of the actes of Iehoshaphat, and his might that hee shewed, and how he warred, are they not written in the booke of the Chronicles of the Kings of Iudah?
22:46And the remnant of the Sodomites which remained in the dayes of his father Asa, he tooke out of the land.
22:47There was then no king in Edom: a deputie was king.
22:48Iehoshaphat made shippes of Tharshish to goe to Ophir for golde: but they went not, for the shippes were broken at Ezion Geber.
22:49Then said Ahaziah the sonne of Ahab vnto Iehoshaphat, Let my seruants goe with thy seruants in the ships: But Iehoshaphat would not.
22:50And Iehoshaphat slept with his fathers, and was buried with his fathers in the citie of Dauid his father: and Iehoram his sonne reigned in his stead.
22:51Ahaziah the sonne of Ahab began to reigne ouer Israel in Samaria the seuenteenth yeere of Iehoshaphat king of Iudah, and reigned two yeres ouer Israel.
22:52And he did euill in the sight of the Lord, and walked in the way of his father, and in the way of his mother, and in the way of Ieroboam the sonne of Nebat, who made Israel to sinne.
22:53For he serued Baal, and worshipped him, and prouoked to anger the Lord God of Israel, according vnto all that his father had done.

22:1And they continued three yeere without warre betweene Aram and Israel.
22:2And in the third yeere did Iehoshaphat the King of Iudah come downe to ye King of Israel.
22:3(Then the King of Israel saide vnto his seruants, Knowe yee not that Ramoth Gilead was ours? and wee stay, and take it not out of ye hand of the King of Aram?)
22:4And he sayde vnto Iehoshaphat, Wilt thou goe with mee to battel against Ramoth Gilead? And Iehoshaphat saide vnto the King of Israel, I am as thou art, my people as thy people, and mine horses as thine horses.
22:5Then Iehoshaphat saide vnto the King of Israel, Aske counsaile, I pray thee, of the Lord to day.
22:6Then the King of Israel gathered the prophets vpon a foure hundreth men, and said vnto them, Shal I go against Ramoth Gilead to battel, or shall I let it alone? And they said, Go vp: for ye Lord shall deliuer it into the hands of the King.
22:7And Iehoshaphat said, Is there here neuer a Prophet of the Lord more, that we might inquire of him?
22:8And the King of Israel said vnto Iehoshaphat, There is yet one man (Michaiah the sonne of Imlah) by whom we may aske counsel of the Lord, but I hate him: for he doeth not prophecie good vnto me, but euill. And Iehoshaphat sayd, Let not the King say so.
22:9Then the King of Israel called an Eunuche, and sayde, Call quickely Michaiah the sonne of Imlah.
22:10And the King of Israel and Iehoshaphat the King of Iudah sate either of them on his throne in their apparell in the voyde place at the entring in of the gate of Samaria, and all the prophets prophecied before them.
22:11And Zidkiiah the sonne of Chenaanah made him hornes of yron, and sayd, Thus sayth the Lord, With these shalt thou push the Aramites, vntill thou hast consumed them.
22:12And all the prophets prophecied so, saying, Goe vp to Ramoth Gilead, and prosper: for the Lord shall deliuer it into the Kings hand.
22:13And the messenger that was gone to call Michaiah spake vnto him, saying, Beholde now, the wordes of the prophets declare good vnto the King with one accorde: let thy word therefore, I pray thee, be like the worde of one of them, and speake thou good.
22:14And Michaiah saide, As the Lord liueth, whatsoeuer the Lord sayth vnto me, that will I speake.
22:15So he came to the King, and the King said vnto him, Michaiah, shall we go against Ramoth Gilead to battel, or shall we leaue off? And he answered him, Goe vp, and prosper: and the Lord shall deliuer it into the hand of the King.
22:16And the King said vnto him, How oft shall I charge thee, that thou tell me nothing but that which is true in the Name of the Lord?
22:17Then he said, I sawe all Israel scattered vpon the mountaines, as sheepe that had no shepheard. And the Lord sayde, These haue no master, let euery man returne vnto his house in peace.
22:18(And the King of Israel saide vnto Iehoshaphat, Did I not tell thee, that he would prophecie no good vnto me, but euill?)
22:19Againe he said, Heare thou therefore the worde of the Lord. I sawe the Lord sit on his throne, and all the hoste of heauen stood about him on his right hand and on his left hand.
22:20And the Lord sayd, Who shall entise Ahab that he may go and fall at Ramoth Gilead? And one said on this maner, and another sayd on that maner.
22:21Then there came forth a spirit, and stoode before the Lord, and sayd, I wil entise him. And the Lord sayd vnto him, Wherewith?
22:22And he sayd, I will goe out, and be a false spirit in the mouth of all his prophets. Then he sayd, Thou shalt entise him, and shalt also preuayle: goe forth, and doe so.
22:23Now therefore behold, the Lord hath put a lying spirite in the mouth of all these thy prophets, and the Lord hath appoynted euill against thee.
22:24Then Zidkiiah the sonne of Chenaanah came neere, and smote Michaiah on the cheeke and sayd, When went the Spirite of the Lord from me, to speake vnto thee?
22:25And Michaiah saide, Behold, thou shalt see in that day, when thou shalt goe from chamber to chamber to hide thee.
22:26And the King of Israel sayd, Take Michaiah, and cary him vnto Amon the gouernour of the citie, and vnto Ioash the Kings sonne,
22:27And say, Thus saith the King, Put this man in the prison house, and feede him with bread of affliction, and with water of affliction, vntill I returne in peace.
22:28And Michaiah sayde, If thou returne in peace, the Lord hath not spoken by me. And he sayd, Hearken all ye people.
22:29So the King of Israel and Iehoshaphat the King of Iudah went vp to Ramoth Gilead.
22:30And the King of Israel sayde to Iehoshaphat, I will change mine apparell, and will enter into the battell, but put thou on thine apparell. And the King of Israel changed himselfe, and went into the battel.
22:31And the King of Aram commanded his two and thirtie captaines ouer his charets, saying, Fight neither with small, nor great, saue onely against the King of Israel.
22:32And when the captaines of the charets saw Iehoshaphat, they sayd, Surely it is the King of Israel, and they turned to fight against him: and Iehoshaphat cryed.
22:33And when the captaines of the charets saw that he was not the King of Israel, they turned backe from him.
22:34Then a certaine man drewe a bow mightily and smote the King of Israel betweene the ioyntes of his brigandine. Wherefore he sayde vnto his charet man, Turne thine hand and cary me out of the hoste: for I am hurt.
22:35And the battel encreased that day, and the King stoode still in his charet against the Aramites, and dyed at euen: and the blood ran out of the wound into the middes of the charet.
22:36And there went a proclamation thorowout the hoste about the going downe of the sunne, saying, Euery man to his citie, and euery man to his owne countrey.
22:37So the King died, and was brought to Samaria, and they buried the King in Samaria.
22:38And one washed the charet in the poole of Samaria, and the dogs licked vp his blood (and they washed his armour) according vnto the word of the Lord which he spake.
22:39Concerning the rest of the actes of Ahab and all that he did, and the yuorie house which he built, and all the cities that he built, are they not written in the booke of the Chronicles of the Kings of Israel?
22:40So Ahab slept with his fathers, and Ahaziah his sonne reigned in his stead.
22:41And Iehoshaphat the sonne of Asa began to reigne vpon Iudah in the fourth yeere of Ahab King of Israel.
22:42Iehoshaphat was fiue and thirty yere olde, when he began to reigne, and reigned fiue and twentie yeere in Ierusalem. And his mothers name was Azubah the daughter of Shilhi.
22:43And he walked in all the wayes of Asa his father, and declined not therefrom, but did that which was right in the eyes of the Lord. Neuerthelesse the hie places were not taken away: for the people offred still and burnt incense in the hie places.
22:44And Iehoshaphat made peace with the King of Israel.
22:45Concerning the rest of the actes of Iehoshaphat, and his worthy deedes that he did, and his battels which he fought, are they not written in the booke of the Chronicles of the Kings of Iudah?
22:46And the Sodomites, which remayned in the dayes of his father Asa, he put cleane out of the land.
22:47There was then no King in Edom: the deputie was King.
22:48Iehoshaphat made shippes of Tharshish to sayle to Ophir for golde, but they went not, for the shippes were broken at Ezion Gaber.
22:49Then sayde Ahaziah the sonne of Ahab vnto Iehoshaphat, Let my seruants goe with thy seruants in the ships, But Iehoshaphat would not.
22:50And Iehoshaphat did sleepe with his fathers, and was buried with his fathers in the citie of Dauid his father, and Iehoram his sonne reigned in his stead.
22:51Ahaziah the sonne of Ahab began to reigne ouer Israel in Samaria, the seuenteenth yeere of Iehoshaphat King of Iudah, and reigned two yeeres ouer Israel.
22:52But he did euill in the sight of the Lord, and walked in the way of his father, and in the way of his mother, and in the way of Ieroboam the sonne of Nebat, which made Israel to sinne.
22:53For he serued Baal and worshipped him, and prouoked the Lord God of Israel vnto wrath, according vnto all that his father had done.

22:1And they continued thre yere without warre betwene Siria and Israel.
22:2And in the third yere did Iehosaphat the kynge of Iuda, come downe to the kynge of Israel.
22:3And the kynge of Israel sayde vnto hys seruauntes, knowe ye not that Ramoth in Gilead is oures? and we syt stylle, and take it not out of the hande of the kynge of Siria.
22:4And he sayde vnto Iehosaphat: wilt thou come with me to batayle, agaynst Ramoth in Gilead? And Iehosaphat sayd vnto the kyng of Israel: I will be as thou art, and my people shall be as thyne, and my horsses as thyne.
22:5And Iehosaphat sayde vnto the kynge of Israel: aske councell I praye the at the worde of the Lord to daye.
22:6And then the king of Israel geathered the prophetes together upon a foure hundred men, and sayde vnto them: shall I go agaynst Ramoth in Gilead to batayle, or shall I let it alone? And they sayd, go vp: for the Lorde shall delyuer it into the handes of the kyng.
22:7And Iehosaphat sayde: is there here neuer a Prophet of the Lorde more, that we myght enquyre of him?
22:8And the kyng of Israel sayd vnto Iehosaphat: there is yet one man (Michea the sonne of Iimla,) by whom we maye aske councell of the Lorde. But I hate hym: for he doth not prophesye good vnto me, but euel. And Iehosaphat sayde: let not the kyng saye so.
22:9Then the kynge of Israel called a chamberlayn and sayde: fet Michea the sonne of Iimla hyther at once.
22:10And the kynge of Israel and Iehosaphat the kyng of Iuda set ether in hys seat and theyr apparell on them, in a voyde place besyde the entrynge in of the gate of Samaria, and all the Prophetes prophesyed before them.
22:11And Zedekia the sonne of Canaana made hornes of yron, and sayd: thus sayth the Lorde: wyth these hornes shalt thou pusshe the Syrians, vntyll thou haue made an ende of them.
22:12And all the Prophetes phrophesyed euen so, sayeng: go vp to Ramoth in Gilead, and prosper, for the Lorde shall delyuer it into the kynges hande.
22:13And the messenger that was gone to call Michea, spake vnto hym sayenge: beholde the wordes of the Prophetes speake good vnto the kynge wt one mouth: let thy worde therfore (I praye the) be lyke the worde of euery one of them, to speake that whych is good.
22:14And Michea sayde: as truely as the Lorde lyueth, whatsoeuer the Lorde sayeth vnto me, that wyll I speake.
22:15And so he came to the kynge, and the kynge sayde vnto hym: Michea, ought we to go agaynst Ramoth in Gilead to batayle or to be still? He answered vnto hym: go and prosper, the Lorde shall delyuer it into the hande of the kynge.
22:16And the kynge sayd vnto hym: So & so many times do I charge the, that thou tell me nothyng, but that whych is true, in the name of the Lorde.
22:17He sayd: I saw all them of Israel scatered vpon the hylles, as shepe that haue not a sheperde. And the Lorde sayde: these haue no master, let euery man retourne to hys house in peace.
22:18And the kynge of Israel sayde vnto Iehosaphat: dyd I not tell the, that he wolde prophesye no good vnto me, but euell?
22:19And he sayde agayne: heare thou therfore the worde of the Lorde. I saw the Lorde syt on hys seate, and all the hoost of heauen stode about hym, on hys ryght hand and on hys lefte.
22:20And the Lorde sayde: who shall persuade Ahab, that he maye go and fall at Ramoth in Gilead? and one sayde on thys maner, and a nother on that,
22:21And there came forth a certayne sprete, and stode before the Lorde and sayde: I wil persuade hym.
22:22And the Lorde sayde vnto hym: wherwyth? And he sayde: I wyll go out, and be a false sprete in the mouth of all hys prophetes. He sayde: thou shalt persuade hym, and preuayle, go forth then, and do euen so.
22:23Now therfore beholde the Lord hath put a lyenge sprete in the mouth of all these thy prophetes: and the Lorde hath spoken euell towarde the.
22:24But Zedekia the sonne of Chanaana went to and smote Michea on the cheke, & sayde: whan went the sprete of the Lorde from me, to speake vnto the?
22:25And Michea sayde: beholde, thou shalt se in that daye, when thou shalt go from chambre to chambre to hyde the.
22:26And the kyng of Israel sayd: take Michea and carye hym vnto Amon the gouerner of the cytie, and vnto Ioab the kynges sonne,
22:27and saye: thus sayth the kynge: Put thys felow in the preson house, and fede him wyth breed of affliction, and with water of trouble vntyll I retourne in peace.
22:28And Michea sayde: yf thou retourne in peace, the Lord hath not spoken by me. And he sayd: herken ye people euery one of you.
22:29And so the kynge of Israel and Iehosaphat the kyng of Iuda went up to Ramoth in Gilead.
22:30And the kynge of Israel sayde to Iehosaphat: chaunge the, whan thou goest to warre: and put on thyne apparell. And the kyng of Israel chaunged hym selfe, and went to battell.
22:31But the kynge of Syria commaunded the, .xxxii. capitaynes (that had rule ouer hys charettes) sayenge: fyght nether wyth small nor greate saue onely agaynst the kynge of Israel.
22:32And when the capytaynes of the charettes sawe Iehosaphat, they sayde: Surely it is the kynge of Israel, and they turned to fyght agaynst hym. And Iehosaphat cryed.
22:33And so it came to passe, that when the captaynes of the charettes saw that he was not the kynge of Israel, they turned back from hym.
22:34And a certen man drewe a bowe ignorantlye and smote the kynge of Israel betwene the ribbes, and his harnesse. Wherfore he sayde vnto the dryuer of his charettes: turne thy hande, and carye me out of the host, for I am sycke.
22:35And the battell encreased that daye, & the kyng stode still in his charet agaynst the Sirians, & dyed at euen. And the bloude ranne out of the wounde into the myddes of the charett.
22:36And there went a proclamacyun thorowe out the hoste aboute the goynge downe of the sonne, sayinge: euery man to his cytie, & to his awne countreye.
22:37And so the kyng of Israel dyed, and they came to Samaria, and buryed him there.
22:38And one wasshed the charet in the pole of Samaria and the dogges lycked vp his bloude (and harlottes wasshed by the pole syde) accordinge vnto the worde of the Lord which he spake.
22:39The rest of the wordes that concerne Ahab & all that he dyd, & the Iuorie house which he made, and all the cyties that he buylded, are they not written in the boke of the chronicles of the kynges of Israel?
22:40And so Ahab slepte with his fathers, and Ahazia his sonne raygned in his steade.
22:41Iosaphat the sonne of Asa beganne to raygne vpon Iuda in the fourth yere of Ahab kyng of Israel,
22:42and Iehosaphat was .xxxv. yere olde when he beganne to raygne, & raygned .xxv. yere in Ierusalem. His mothers name was Azuba the daughter of Silhi.
22:43And he walked in all the wayes of Asa hys father and bowed not therfrom: but dyd that which was ryght in the eyes of the Lorde. Neuertheles, the hyllaulters were not taken out of the waye: for the people offered & burnt incense yet, in the hyllaultares.
22:44And Iehosaphat made peace with the kyng of Israel.
22:45The rest of the wordes that concerne Iehosaphat, and the myght that he vsed, and howe he warred, are they not wrytten in the boke of the chronicles of the kynges of Iuda?
22:46And the remnaunt of the stues of the males, which remayned in the dayes of his father, he put cleane out of the lande.
22:47There was then no kynge made in Edom.
22:48And Iehosaphat made ten shippes in the se, to come thorowe Tharsis to Ophir for golde, but they went not: for the shyppes brake at ozion Gaber.
22:49Then sayde Ahazia the sonne of Ahab vnto Iehosaphat: let my seruauntes go with thy seruauntes in the shippes. But Iehosaphat wolde not.
22:50And Iehosaphat dyd slepe with his fathers, and was buryed with hys father in the cytie of Dauid his father: And Iehoram his sonne raygned in his steade.
22:51Ahazia the sonne of Ahab beganne to raygne ouer Israel in Samaria, the seuententh yeare of Ichosaphat kynge of Iuda, & reygned two yeares ouer Israel.
22:52But he did euell in the syght of the Lorde, and walked in the waye of his father, & in the waye of his mother, & in the waye of Ieroboam the sonne of Nebat, which made Israel to synne.
22:53For he serued Baal, & worshypped him, and prouoked the Lorde God of Israel vnto wrath. accordynge to all that his father had done.
