2 Kings - Chapter: 9

>
9:1And Elisha the Prophet called one of the children of the Prophets, and said vnto him, Gird vp thy loines, and take this boxe of oile in thine hand, and goe to Ramoth Gilead.
9:2And when thou commest thither, looke out there Iehu the sonne of Iehoshaphat, the sonne of Nimshi, and goe in, and make him arise vp from among his brethren, and carie him to an inner chamber.
9:3Then take the boxe of oile, and powre it on his head, and say, Thus saith the Lord, I haue anointed thee king ouer Israel: then open the doore, and flee, and tary not.
9:4So the yong man, euen the yong man the Prophet, went to Ramoth Gilead:
9:5And when hee came, behold, the captaines of the host were sitting; and hee said, I haue an errand to thee, O captaine: And Iehu said, Unto which of all vs? And he said, To thee, O captaine.
9:6And hee arose, and went into the house, and hee powred the oyle on his head, and said vnto him, Thus sayth the Lord God of Israel, I haue anoynted thee king ouer the people of the Lord, euen ouer Israel.
9:7And thou shalt smite the house of Ahab thy master, that I may auenge the blood of my seruants the Prophets, and the blood of all the seruants of the Lord, at the hand of Iezebel.
9:8For the whole house of Ahab shal perish, and I will cut off from Ahab, him that pisseth against the wall, and him that is shut vp and left in Israel.
9:9And I will make the house of Ahab, like the house of Ieroboam the sonne of Nebat, and like the house of Baasha the sonne of Ahiiah.
9:10And the dogges shal eate Iezebel in the portion of Iezreel, and there shal be none to burie her. And he opened the doore, and fled.
9:11Then Iehu came foorth to the seruants of his lord, and one said vnto him, Is all well? wherefore came this madde fellow to thee? And he said vnto them, Yee know the man, and his communication.
9:12And they said, It is false, tell vs now: And hee sayde, Thus and thus spake he to me, saying, Thus saith the Lord, I haue anoynted thee King ouer Israel.
9:13Then they hasted, and tooke euery man his garment, and put it vnder him on the top of the staires, and blewe with trumpets, saying, Iehu is king.
9:14So Iehu the sonne of Iehoshaphat, the sonne of Nimshi, conspired against Ioram: (now Ioram had kept Ramoth Gilead, hee, and all Israel, because of Hazael king of Syria:
9:15But king Ioram was returned to bee healed in Iezreel, of the wounds which the Syrians had giuen him, when he fought with Hazael king of Syria.) And Iehu said, If it be your minds, then let none goe forth nor escape out of the citie, to goe to tell it in Iezreel.
9:16So Iehu rode in a charet, and went to Iezreel, (for Ioram lay there:) and Ahaziah king of Iudah was come downe to see Ioram.
9:17And there stood a watchman on the towre in Iezreel, and hee spied the company of Iehu as he came, and said, I see a companie. And Ioram sayd, Take an horseman, and send to meete them, and let him say, Is it peace?
9:18So there went one on horsebacke to meete him, and said, Thus sayth the king, Is it peace? And Iehu said, What hast thou to doe with peace? turne thee behinde me. And the watchman tolde, saying, The messenger came to them, but he commeth not againe.
9:19Then he sent out a second on horsebacke, which came to them, and sayd, Thus sayth the king, Is it peace? And Iehu answered, What hast thou to doe with peace? turne thee behinde me.
9:20And the watchman tolde, saying, He came euen vnto them, and commeth not againe: and the driuing is like the driuing of Iehu the sonne of Nimshi; for he driueth furiously.
9:21And Ioram said, Make readie. And his charet was made ready. And Ioram king of Israel, and Ahaziah king of Iudah, went out, each in his charet, and they went out against Iehu, and met him in the portion of Naboth the Iezreelite.
9:22And it came to passe when Ioram saw Iehu, that hee said, Is it peace, Iehu? And he answered, What peace, so long as the whoredomes of thy mother Iezebel, and her witchcrafts are so many?
9:23And Ioram turned his hand, and fled, and said to Ahaziah, There is treachery, O Ahaziah.
9:24And Iehu drew a bowe with his full strength, and smote Iehoram betweene his armes, and the arrow went out at his heart, and hee sunke downe in his charet.
9:25Then said Iehu to Bidkar his captaine, Take vp, and cast him in the portion of the field of Naboth the Iezreelite: for remember, how that when I and thou rode together after Ahab his father, the Lord laide this burden vpon him:
9:26Surely I haue seene yesterday the blood of Naboth, and the blood of his sonnes, sayd the Lord, and I will requite thee in this plat, sayth the Lord. Now therefore take and cast him into the plat of ground, according to the word of the Lord.
9:27But when Ahaziah the king of Iudah saw this, hee fled by the way of the garden house: and Iehu followed after him, and said, Smite him also in the charet; and they did so, at the going vp to Gur, which is by Ibleam: And hee fled to Megiddo, and died there.
9:28And his seruants caried him in a charet to Ierusalem, and buried him in his sepulchre with his fathers, in the citie of Dauid.
9:29And in the eleuenth yeere of Ioram the sonne of Ahab, began Ahaziah to reigne ouer Iudah.
9:30And when Iehu was come to Iezreel, Iezebel heard of it, and shee painted her face, and tyred her head, and looked out at a window.
9:31And as Iehu entred in at the gate, she said, Had Zimri peace, who slew his master?
9:32And he lift vp his face to the window, and said, Who is on my side, who? And there looked out to him two or three Eunuches.
9:33And he said, Throw her downe. So they threw her downe, and some of her blood was sprinkled on the wall, and on the horses: and he trode her vnder foote.
9:34And when he was come in, hee did eate and drinke, and saide, Goe, see now this cursed woman, and burie her: for she is a kings daughter.
9:35And they went to burie her, but they found no more of her then the skul, and the feete, & the palmes of her hands.
9:36Wherefore they came againe, and told him: and he said, This is the word of the Lord, which he spake by his seruant Elijah the Tishbite, saying, In the portion of Iezreel shall dogs eate the flesh of Iezebel:
9:37And the carkeise of Iezebel shall be as doung vpon the face of the field in the portion of Iezreel, so that they shall not say, This is Iezebel.

9:1Then Elisha the Prophet called one of ye children of the Prophets, and sayde vnto him, Gird thy loynes and take this boxe of oyle in thine hand and get thee to Ramoth Gilead.
9:2And when thou commest thither, looke where is Iehu ye sonne of Iehoshaphat, the sonne of Nimshi, and go, and make him arise vp from among his brethren, and leade him to a secret chamber.
9:3Then take the boxe of oyle and powre it on his head, and say, Thus sayth the Lord, I haue anointed thee for King ouer Israel. then open the doore, and flee without any tarying.
9:4So the seruat of ye Prophet gate him to Ramoth Gilead.
9:5And when he came in, behold, the captaines of the armie were sitting. And he sayde, I haue a message to thee, O captaine. And Iehu sayd, Vnto which of all vs? And he answered, To thee, O captaine.
9:6And he arose, and went into the house, and he powred the oyle on his head and sayde vnto him, Thus sayth the Lord God of Israel, I haue anointed thee for King ouer the people of the Lord, euen ouer Israel.
9:7And thou shalt smite the house of Ahab thy master, that I may auenge the blood of my seruants the Prophets, and the blood of al the seruants of the Lord of the hand of Iezebel.
9:8For the whole house of Ahab shalbe destroied: and I will cut off from Ahab, him that maketh water against the wall, as well him that is shut vp, as him that is left in Israel.
9:9And I will make the house of Ahab like the house of Ieroboam the sonne of Nebat, and like the house of Baasha the sonne of Ahiiah.
9:10And the dogges shall eate Iezebel in the fielde of Izreel, and there shalbe none to burie her. And he opened the doore, and fled.
9:11Then Iehu came out to the seruants of his lord. And one sayd vnto him, Is all well? wherefore came this mad fellowe to thee? And hee sayde vnto them, Ye knowe the man, and what his talke was.
9:12And they sayde, It is false, tell vs it nowe. Then he sayd, Thus and thus spake he to me, saying, Thus saieth the Lord, I haue anointed thee for King ouer Israel.
9:13Then they made haste, and tooke euerie man his garment, and put it vnder him on the top of the staires, and blewe the trumpet, saying, Iehu is King.
9:14So Iehu ye sonne of Iehoshaphat the sonne of Nimshi conspired against Ioram: (Now Ioram kept Ramoth Gilead, he and all Israel, because of Hazael King of Aram.
9:15And King Ioram returned to bee healed in Izreel of the woundes, which the Aramites had giuen him, when hee fought with Hazael King of Aram) and Iehu sayde, If it be your mindes, let no man depart and escape out of the citie, to goe and tell in Izreel.
9:16So Iehu gate vp into a charet, and went to Izreel: for Ioram lay there, and Ahaziah King of Iudah was come downe to see Ioram.
9:17And the watchman that stoode in the towre in Izreel spyed the companie of Iehu as hee came, and sayd, I see a companie. And Iehoram said, Take a horseman and send to meete them, that hee may say, Is it peace?
9:18So there went one on horseback to meete him, and sayde, Thus sayth the King, Is it peace? And Iehu sayd, What hast thou to do with peace? Turne behinde me. And the watchman tolde, saying, The messenger came to them, but he commeth not againe.
9:19Then hee sent out another on horsebacke, which came to them, and sayde, Thus sayth the King, Is it peace? And Iehu answered, What hast thou to doe with peace? turne behinde me.
9:20And the watchman tolde, saying, He came to them also, but commeth not againe, and the marching is like the marching of Iehu the sonne of Nimshi: for he marcheth furiously.
9:21Then Iehoram sayd, Make ready: and his charet was made ready. And Iehoram King of Israel and Ahaziah King of Iudah went out eyther of them in his charet against Iehu, and met him in the fielde of Naboth the Izreelite.
9:22And when Iehoram sawe Iehu, he sayde, Is it peace, Iehu? And he answered, What peace? whiles the whoredomes of thy mother Iezebel, and her witchcraftes are yet in great nomber?
9:23Then Iehoram turned his hand, and fled, and said to Ahaziah, O Ahaziah, there is treason.
9:24But Iehu tooke a bowe in his hande, and smote Iehoram betweene the shoulders, that the arowe went through his heart: and he fell downe in his charet.
9:25Then said Iehu to Bidkar a captaine, Take, and cast him in some place of the fielde of Naboth the Izreelite: for I remember that when I and thou rode together after Ahab his father, the Lord layed this burden vpon him.
9:26Surely I haue seene yesterday the blood of Naboth, and the blood of his sonnes, saide the Lord, and I will render it thee in this fielde, saith the Lord: nowe therefore take and cast him in the fielde, according to the word of the Lord.
9:27But when Ahaziah the King of Iudah saw this, he fled by the way of the garden house: And Iehu pursued after him, and sayd, Smite him also in the charet: and they smote him in the going vp to Gur, which is by Ibleam. And hee fled to Megiddo, and there dyed.
9:28And his seruants caried him in a charet to Ierusalem, and buried him in his sepulchre with his fathers in the citie of Dauid.
9:29And in the eleuenth yere of Ioram the sonne of Ahab, began Ahaziah to reigne ouer Iudah.
9:30And when Iehu was come to Izreel, Iezebel heard of it, and painted her face, and tired her head, and looked out at a windowe.
9:31And as Iehu entred at the gate, shee sayde, Had Zimri peace, which slewe his master?
9:32And he lift vp his eyes to the windowe, and sayd, Who is on my side, who? Then two or three of her Eunuches looked vnto him.
9:33And he sayde, Cast her downe: and they cast her downe, and hee sprinkled of her blood vpon the wall, and vpon the horses, and he trode her vnder foote.
9:34And when he was come in, he did eate and drinke, and sayde, Visite now yonder cursed woman, and burie her: for she is a Kings daughter.
9:35And they went to burie her, but they foud no more of her, then the skull and the feete, and the palmes of her handes.
9:36Wherefore they came agayne and tolde him. And he said, This is the worde of the Lord, which he spake by his seruant Eliiah the Tishbite, saying, In the fielde of Izreel shall ye dogs eate the flesh of Iezebel.
9:37And the carkeis of Iezebel shalbe as doung vpon the ground in the field of Izreel, so that none shall say, This is Iezebel.

9:1And Elisa the prophete called one of the chyldren of the prophetes, & sayd vnto him: gyrde vp thy loynes, and take thys boxe of oyle in thyne hande, and get the to Ramoth in Gilead.
9:2And when thou commest thyther, loke where is Iehu the sonne of Iehosaphat, the sonne of Nimsi, and go to him, and make him aryse vp from amonge hys brethren, & carye hym to a secret chambre.
9:3Then take the boxe of oyle, and powre it on hys heed, and saye: thus sayth the Lorde: I haue anoynted the to be kynge ouer Israel. And then open the dore, and flee without any taryinge.
9:4And so the seruaunt of the prophete gat him to Ramoth Gilead:
9:5and when he came in, beholde, the captaynes of the hoost were syttynge togyther. And he sayde: I haue an errand to the, o captayne. And Iehu sayde: vnto which of all vs? He sayde: to the, o captayne.
9:6And he arose, and went into the house. And he powred the oyle on hys heed, and sayde vnto hym: thus saythe the Lorde God of Israel: I haue anoynted the to be kinge ouer the people of the Lorde, euen ouer Israel.
9:7Thou shalt smyte the house of Ahab thy master, that I maye aduenge the bloud of my seruauntes the prophetes, and the bloude of all the seruauntes of the Lorde, of the hande of Iezabel,
9:8for the whole house of Ahab shalbe destroyed, and I wyll destroye from Ahab, euen hym that maketh water agaynst the wall, and him that is presoned and forsaken in Israel:
9:9and I wyll make the house of Ahab lyke the house of Ieroboam the sonne of Nebat, and lyke the house of Baasa the sonne of Ahia.
9:10And as for Iezabel the dogges shall eate her in the felde of Iezrael, and ther shalbe none to burye her. And he opened the dore, and fledd.
9:11Iehu came out to the seruauntes of hys lorde, and one sayde vnto hym, is all well? Wherfore came thys madd felowe to the? And he sayde vnto them: ye knowe what maner of man it is, and what hys communicacyon is.
9:12They sayde vnto hym agayne: it is not so, tell vs. He sayde: thus and thus spake he to me, sayinge: Thus sayth the Lorde: I haue anoynted the to be kynge ouer Israel.
9:13Then they besyde the horologye hasted, and toke euery man hys garment, and put it vnder hym, and blewe with trompettes, sayinge: Iehu is kynge.
9:14And so, Iehu the sonne of Iehosaphat the sonne of Nimsi conspyred agaynst Ioram. Ioram kepte Ramoth Gilead, he and all Israel because of Hazael kynge of Siria:
9:15and kynge Ioram returned to be healed in Iezrahel, of the woundes which the Sirians had geuen him, when he fought with Hazael kynge of Siria. And Iehu sayde: If it be youre myndes, then let no man departe and scape out of the citye, to go, & tell in Iezrahel.
9:16So Iehu gatt vp into a charette, and wente to Iezrahel, where Ioram laye, & Ahaziahu kyng of Iuda was come downe thither to se Ioram.
9:17And the watchman that stode on the towre in Iezrael, spyed the company of Iehu as he came, and sayde: I se a companye. And Iehoram sayd: take an horsman, and sende to mete them, that he maye aske whether it be peace.
9:18And so there went one on horsbacke to mete him, and sayde: thus sayth the kynge: is it peace? and Iehu sayde: what hast thou to do with peace? turne the behynde me. And the wathman tolde, sayinge: the messenger came to them, but he commeth not agayne.
9:19Then he sent out another on horsbacke, which came to them, and sayde: thus saythe the kynge: is it peace? Iehu answered: what hast thou to do with peace? turne the behind me.
9:20And the watchman tolde, sayinge: he came to them also, and commeth not agayne, and the driuynge is lyke the driuynge of Iehu the sonne of Nimsi: for he driueth the charet as he were madd.
9:21And Iehoram sayde: make ready. And the charet was made ready. And Iehoram kinge of Israel, and Ahaziahu kynge of Iuda went out ether of them in hys charet agaynst Iehu, and met hym in the furlonge of Naboth the Iezraelite.
9:22And it fortuned, that when Iehoram sawe Iehu, he sayde: is it peace Iehu? He answered: What peace shulde there be, so longe as the whordoms of thy mother Iezabel, and her witchcraftes are so great?
9:23And Iehoram turned his handes, and fledd, and sayde to Ahaziahu: ther is falshed, o Ahaziahu.
9:24And Iehu toke a bowe in hys handes, and smote Iehoram betwene the armes, & the arowe went thorowe hys hert. And he fell downe flatt in hys charet.
9:25Then sayde Iehu to Bidkar a captayne: take him, & cast him in the platt of the grounde of Naboth the Iezraelite. For I remembre that whan I and thou roade together in a charet after Ahab his father, the Lorde layed this heuy burthen vpon hym.
9:26I haue sene yesterdaye the bloud of Naboth, & the bloude of his sonnes, sayde the Lord: & I will quyte it the in this ground, sayth the Lorde. Nowe therfore take him, & cast hym in the plat of ground, accordyng to the worde of the Lorde.
9:27But when Ahaziahu the kynge of Iuda sawe this, he fledd by the waye of the garden house. And Iehu folowed after hym, & sayde: smyte him also in the charet: in hys charet. at the goynge vp to Gur by Iiblean, & he fleed to Magiddo, & ther dyed.
9:28And his seruauntes caried hym in a charet to Ierusalem, & buryed hym there in his sepulchre, wt his fathers, in the citie of Dauid.
9:29And in the .xi. yere of Ioram the sonne of Ahab, beganne Ahaziahu to raygne ouer Iuda.
9:30And when Iehu was come to Iezrahel Iezabel hearde of it, & starched her face, & tired her heed, & loked out at a windowe.
9:31And as Iehu entred at the gate, she sayde: had zimri peace which slue hys master?
9:32And he lyft vp his eyes to the windowe, and sayde: who is of my syde, who? And ther loked out to hym two or thre chamberlaynes.
9:33And he sayde: throwe her downe. So they threwe her downe, and her bloude dasshed towarde the wall, & toward the horses, and he troade her vnder fote.
9:34And when he was come in, he dyd eate & drincke, & sayde: go & vyset I praye you yonder cursed creature, and burie her: for she is a kynges daughter.
9:35And so when they came to burye her, they founde nomore of her then the skulle, and the fete, and the palmes of her handes.
9:36Wherfore they come agayne, & told hym. And he sayde: thys is the worde of the Lorde, which he spake by the hande of his seruaunt Elia the Thesbite, sayinge: in the felde of Iezrahel shall dogges eate the flessh of Iezabel.
9:37And so the carkas of Iezabel was euen as donge vpon the earth, in the felde of Iezrahel: so that no man myght saye: Thys was Iezabel.
