2 Kings - Chapter: 10

>
10:1And Ahab had seuentie sonnes in Samaria: and Iehu wrote letters, and sent to Samaria vnto the rulers of Iezreel, to the Elders, and to them that brought vp Ahabs children, saying,
10:2Now assoone as this letter commeth to you, seeing your masters sons are with you, and there are with you charets and horses, a fenced citie also, and armour:
10:3Looke euen out the best and meetest of your masters sonnes, and set him on his fathers throne, and fight for your masters house.
10:4But they were exceedingly afraid, and said, Behold, two kings stood not before him: how then shall we stand?
10:5And he that was ouer the house, and he that was ouer the citie, the elders also, and the bringers vp of the children, sent to Iehu, saying, Wee are thy seruants, and will doe all that thou shalt bid vs, we will not make any king: doe thou that which is good in thine eyes.
10:6Then he wrote a letter the second time to them, saying, If yee be mine, and if ye will hearken vnto my voyce, take ye the heads of the men your masters sonnes, and come to me to Iezreel by to morow this time: (now the kings sonnes being seuenty persons, were with the great men of the city, which brought them vp.)
10:7And it came to passe when the letter came to them, that they tooke the kings sonnes, and slewe seuentie persons, and put their heads in baskets, and sent him them to Iezreel.
10:8And there came a messenger, and tolde him, saying, They haue brought the heads of the kings sonnes. And he said, Lay ye them in two heaps at the entring in of the gate, vntill the morning.
10:9And it came to passe in the morning, that he went out, & stood, and said to all the people, Ye be righteous: behold, I conspired against my master, and slew him: But who slew all these?
10:10Know now, that there shall fall vnto the earth nothing of the worde of the Lord, which the Lord spake concerning the house of Ahab: for the Lord hath done that which he spake by his seruant Elijah.
10:11So Iehu slew all that remained of the house of Ahab, in Iezreel, and all his great men, and his kinsefolkes, and his priests, vntill he left him none remaining.
10:12And hee arose, and departed, and came to Samaria: And as he was at the shearing house in the way,
10:13Iehu met with the brethren of Ahaziah king of Iudah, and said, Who are ye? And they answered, Wee are the brethren of Ahaziah, and we go downe to salute the children of the King, and the children of the Queene.
10:14And hee said, Take them aliue. And they tooke them aliue, and slew them at the pit of the shearing house, euen two and fourty men; neither left he any of them.
10:15And when hee was departed thence, he lighted on Iehonadab the sonne of Rechab, comming to meet him: and he saluted him, & said to him, Is thine heart right, as my heart is with thy heart? And Iehonadab answered, It is: If it be, giue mee thine hand. And hee gaue him his hand, and hee tooke him vp to him into the charet.
10:16And he said, Come with me, and see my zeale for the Lord: so they made him ride in his charet.
10:17And when he came to Samaria, he slew all that remained vnto Ahab in Samaria, till he had destroyed him, according to the saying of the Lord, which he spake to Eliiah.
10:18And Iehu gathered all the people together, and said vnto them, Ahab serued Baal a litle, but Iehu shall serue him much.
10:19Now therefore, call vnto me all the prophets of Baal, all his seruants, and all his priests, let none be wanting: for I haue a great sacrifice to doe to Baal; whosoeuer shall be wanting, he shall not liue. But Iehu did it in subtilitie, to the intent that hee might destroy the worshippers of Baal.
10:20And Iehu said, Proclaime a solemne assembly for Baal. And they proclaimed it.
10:21And Iehu sent through all Israel, and all the worshippers of Baal came, so that there was not a man left that came not: and they came into the house of Baal; and the house of Baal was full from one end to another.
10:22And he said vnto him that was ouer the vestrie, Bring forth vestments for all the worshippers of Baal. And he brought them forth vestments.
10:23And Iehu went, and Iehonadab the sonne of Rechab into the house of Baal, and said vnto the worshippers of Baal, Search, and looke that there be here with you none of the seruants of the Lord, but the worshippers of Baal onely.
10:24And when they went in to offer sacrifices, and burnt offerings, Iehu appointed fourescore men without, and said, If any of the men whom I haue brought into your hands, escape, hee that letteth him goe, his life shall be for the life of him.
10:25And it came to passe assoone as hee had made an end of offering the burnt offering, that Iehu saide to the guard, and to the captaines, Goe in, and slay them, let none come foorth. And they smote them with the edge of the sword, and the guard, and the captaines cast them out, and went to the citie of the house of Baal.
10:26And they brought foorth the Images out of the house of Baal, and burnt them.
10:27And they brake downe the image of Baal, and brake downe the house of Baal, and made it a draughthouse, vnto this day.
10:28Thus Iehu destroyed Baal out of Israel.
10:29Howbeit, from the sinnes of Ieroboam the sonne of Nebat, who made Israel to sinne, Iehu departed not from after them, to wit, the golden calues that were in Bethel, and that were in Dan.
10:30And the Lord said vnto Iehu, Because thou hast done well in executing that which is right in mine eyes, and hast done vnto the house of Ahab according to all that was in mine heart, thy children of the fourth generation, shal sit on the throne of Israel.
10:31But Iehu tooke no heede to walke in the Law of the Lord God of Israel, with all his heart: for he departed not from the sinnes of Ieroboam, which made Israel to sinne.
10:32In those dayes the Lord began to cut Israel short: and Hazael smote them in all the coasts of Israel:
10:33From Iordan Eastward, all the land of Gilead, the Gadites, and the Reubenites, and the Manassites, from Aroer, (which is by the riuer Arnon) euen Gilead and Bashan.
10:34Now the rest of the acts of Iehu, and all that he did, & all his might, are they not written in the booke of the Chronicles of the kings of Israel?
10:35And Iehu slept with his fathers, and they buried him in Samaria, and Iehoahaz his sonne reigned in his stead.
10:36And the time that Iehu reigned ouer Israel in Samaria, was twentie and eight yeeres.

10:1Ahab had nowe seuentie sonnes in Samaria. And Iehu wrote letters, and sent to Samaria vnto the rulers of Izreel, and to the Elders, and to the bringers vp of Ahabs children, to this effect,
10:2Nowe when this letter commeth to you, (for ye haue with you your masters sonnes, yee haue with you both charets and horses, and a defenced citie, and armour)
10:3Consider therefore which of your masters sonnes is best and most meete, and set him on his fathers throne, and fight for your masters house.
10:4But they were exceedingly afraid, and saide, Behold two Kings coulde not stande before him, how shall we then stand?
10:5And he that was gouernour of Ahabs house, and he that ruled the citie, and the Elders, and the bringers vp of the children sent to Iehu, saying, We are thy seruants, and will doe all that thou shalt bid vs: we will make no King: do what seemeth good to thee.
10:6Then he wrote another letter to them, saying, If ye be mine, and wil obey my voyce, take the heads of ye men that are your masters sonnes, and come to me to Izreel by to morowe this time. (Nowe the Kings sonnes, euen seuentie persons were with the great men of the citie, which brought them vp)
10:7And when the letter came to them, they tooke the Kings sonnes, and slewe the seuentie persons, and layde their heads in baskets, and sent them vnto him to Izreel.
10:8Then there came a messenger and tolde him, saying, They haue brought the heads of the Kings sonnes. And he sayd, Let them lay them on two heapes at the entring in of the gate vntil the morning.
10:9And when it was day, he went out, and stood and sayd to all the people, Ye be righteous: behold, I conspired against my master, and slew him: but who slew all these?
10:10Knowe nowe that there shall fall vnto the earth nothing of the word of the Lord, which the Lord spake concerning the house of Ahab: for the Lord hath brought to passe the things that hee spake by his seruant Eliiah.
10:11So Iehu slew al that remained of the house of Ahab in Izreel, and all that were great with him, and his familiars and his priestes, so that he let none of his remaine.
10:12And he arose, and departed and came to Samaria. And as Iehu was in the way by an house where the shepheards did shere,
10:13He met with the brethre of Ahaziah king of Iudah, and sayd, Who are ye? And they answered, We are the brethren of Ahaziah, and goe downe to salute the children of the King and the children of the Queene.
10:14And he sayde, Take them aliue. And they tooke them aliue, and slew them at the well beside the house where the sheepe are shorne, euen two and fourtie men, and he left not one of them.
10:15And when he was departed thence, hee met with Iehonadab the sonne of Rechab comming to meete him, and he blessed him, and sayde to him, Is thine heart vpright, as mine heart is towarde thine? And Iehonadab answered, Yea, doubtlesse. Then giue me thine hande. And when he had giuen him his hande, he tooke him vp to him into the charet.
10:16And he sayde, Come with me, and see the zeale that I haue for the Lord: so they made him ride in his charet.
10:17And when he came to Samaria, he slew all that remained vnto Ahab in Samaria, till he had destroyed him, according to the worde of the Lord, which he spake to Eliiah.
10:18Then Iehu assembled all the people, and sayd vnto them, Ahab serued Baal a litle, but Iehu shall serue him much more.
10:19Now therefore call vnto me all ye prophets of Baal, all his seruants, and all his priests, and let not a man be lacking: for I haue a great sacrifice for Baal: whosoeuer is lacking, he shall not liue. But Iehu did it by a subtiltie to destroy ye seruats of Baal.
10:20And Iehu sayd, Proclaime a solemne assemblie for Baal. And they proclaimed it.
10:21So Iehu sent vnto all Israel, and all the seruants of Baal came, and there was not a man left that came not. And they came into the house of Baal, and the house of Baal was full from ende to ende.
10:22Then he said vnto him that had the charge of the vestrie, Bring forth vestments for al the seruants of Baal. And he brought the out vestments.
10:23And when Iehu went, and Iehonadab the sonne of Rechab into the house of Baal, he sayde vnto the seruants of Baal, Searche diligently, and looke, lest there be here with you any of the seruants of the Lord, but the seruants of Baal only.
10:24And when they went in to make sacrifice and burnt offering, Iehu appoynted foure score men without, and sayd, If any of the men whome I haue brought into your hands, escape, his soule shalbe for his soule.
10:25And when hee had made an ende of the burnt offring, Iehu sayde to the garde, and to the captaines, Goe in, slay them, let not a man come out. And they smote them with the edge of the sworde. And the garde, and the captaines cast them out, and went vnto the citie, where was the temple of Baal.
10:26And they brought out the images of the temple of Baal, and burnt them.
10:27And they destroyed the image of Baal, and threwe downe the house of Baal, and made a iakes of it vnto this day.
10:28So Iehu destroyed Baal out of Israel.
10:29But from the sinnes of Ieroboam the sonne of Nebat which made Israel to sinne, Iehu departed not from them, neither from the golden calues that were in Beth-el and that were in Dan.
10:30And the Lord sayde vnto Iehu, Because thou hast diligently executed that which was right in mine eyes, and hast done vnto the house of Ahab according to all things that were in mine heart, therefore shall thy sonnes vnto the fourth generation sit on the throne of Israel.
10:31But Iehu regarded not to walke in the law of the Lord God of Israel with all his heart: for hee departed not from the sinnes of Ieroboam, which made Israel to sinne.
10:32In those dayes the Lord began to lothe Israel, and Hazael smote them in all the coastes of Israel,
10:33From Iorden Eastward, euen all the land of Gilead, the Gadites, and the Reubenites, and them that were of Manasseh, from Aroer (which is by the riuer Arnon) and Gilead and Bashan.
10:34Concerning the rest of the actes of Iehu, and all that he did, and all his valiant deedes, are they not written in the booke of the Chronicles of the Kings of Israel?
10:35And Iehu slept with his fathers, and they buryed him in Samaria, and Iehoahaz his sonne reigned in his stead.
10:36And the time that Iehu reigned ouer Israel in Samaria is eight and twentie yeeres.

10:1Ahab had .lxx. sonnes in Samaria. And Iehu wrote letters, and sent to Samaria vnto the rulers of Iezrael, to the elders, and to them that brought vp Ahabs children, sayinge:
10:2nowe whan thys letter commeth to you, ye that haue with you your masters sonnes, ye haue with you both charettes and horses: a strong citye haue ye also: and harnes,
10:3loke which of your masters sonnes is best and most mete, and set hym on hys fathers seate, and fyght for youre Lordes house.
10:4But they were exceadingly afrayde, & sayde: se, two kinges were not able to stande before hym, how shall we then be able to stande?
10:5And he that was gouerner of Ahabs house, and he that ruled the citye, the elders also, & the tutours sent to Iehu, saieng: we are thy seruauntes, & will do all that thou shalt byd vs: we wyll make no man kynge: therfore do thou what semeth good in thine eyes.
10:6Then he wrote another letter to them, sayinge: If ye be myne, and wyll herken vnto my voyce, then take the hedes of the men that are youre masters sonnes, and come to me to Iezrahel by to morowe thys tyme. And the kynges sonnes were .lxx. personnes, and they were with the great men of the citye, which brought them vp.
10:7And when the letter came to them, they toke the kynges chyldren, and slue them, euen .lxx. personnes, & layed theyr heedes in baskettes, and sent them to him to Iezrahel.
10:8And there came a messenger, and tolde hym, sayinge: they haue brought the heedes of the kynges sonnes. And he sayde: let them laye them on two heapes in the enterynge in of the gate, vntyll the mornynge.
10:9And whan it was daye, he went out, and stode, & sayde to all the folke: ye be ryghteous. Beholde, I conspired against my master, and slue him. But who slue all these?
10:10Lerne here, that ther shall fall vnto the erth nothyng of the worde of the Lorde, which he spake concerning the house of Ahab. For the Lord hath brought to passe the thinges that he spake by the hande of his seruaunt Elia.
10:11And so Iehu slue all that remayned of the house of Ahab, in Iezrahel: and all that were great wt him, & his kynsfolkes and his prestes, so that he let nothing of him remayne.
10:12And he arose, & departed, & came to Samaria. And whan Iehu was in the waye to the house where the shepherdes dyd shere their shepe,
10:13he met wt the brethren of Ahaziahu king of Iuda, & sayde: what are ye? They answered: the brethren of Ahaziahu are we, and go downe to salute the children of the kinge and of the quene.
10:14And he sayde: take them alyue. Whom when they had taken them alyue, they slue them at the well which was besyde the house where the shepe are shoren, euen two and fourtye men, nether left he any of them.
10:15And when he was departed thence, he met wt Iehonadab the sonne of Rechab commynge agaynst him. And he blessed him, & sayde to hym: is thyne hert ryght, as myne hert is true wt thine? And Iehonadab answered: yea that it is, then geue me thyne hande. And whan he had geuen him his hand, he toke him vp to him into the charet,
10:16& sayde: come wt me, & se the zeale that I haue for the Lord: & so they made him ryde in hys charet.
10:17And when he came to Samaria, he slue all that remayned vnto Ahab in Samaria, tyll he had wypte him out, accordyng to the saying of the Lorde which he spake to Elia.
10:18And Iehu gathered all the people together and sayd vnto them: Ahab serued Baal a lytle. But Iehu shall serue hym more.
10:19Nowe therfore call vnto me all the prophetes of Baal all soch as serue him, & all his prestes, and let none be lackyng. For I haue a greate sacrifyce to do to Baal: & therfore, whosoeuer is myssed, he shall not lyue. But Iehu dyd it for a sutteltye, to the intent that he might destroye the seruauntes of Baal.
10:20And Iehu sayde: Proclayme an holy conuocacyon for Baal,
10:21and Iehu sent vnto all Israel. And all the seruauntes of Baal came, that ther was not a man lefte behynde that came not. And they came into the house of Baal, & the house of Baal was full from one ende to another.
10:22And he sayde vnto hym that was the keper of the vestrye, bringe forth garmentes for all the seruauntes of Baal. And he brought them out garmentes.
10:23And when Iehu went with Iehonadab the sonne of Rechab into the house of Baal, he sayde vnto the seruauntes of Baal: searche, and loke, that there be here wt you none of the seruauntes of the Lorde, but the seruauntes of Baal only.
10:24And when they went in to offer sacrifice & burntoffringe: Iehu appoynted .lxxx. men without, & sayd: If any of the men whom I haue brought vnder youre handes, escape, he that letteth him go, shall dye for hym.
10:25And it fortuned, that assone as he had made an ende of offering the burntsacrifyce, Iehu sayde to the men of warre and to the captaines: go in, and sleye them, let none come out. And they smote them with the edge of the swearde. And the men of warre and the captaynes cast them out, and went vnto the citye of the temple of Baal,
10:26and fet the ymages out of the temple of Baal, and burnt them.
10:27And they brake the ymage of Baal, & brake the house of Baal, & made a draft house of it vnto thys daye.
10:28And so Iehu destroyed Baal out of Israel.
10:29But from the synnes of Ieroboam the sonne of Nebat, which made Israel to synne: Iehu departed not, nether from folowing of them the golden calues that were in Bethel and in Dan.
10:30And the Lorde sayde vnto Iehu: because thou hast done ryght well, in bryngynge to passe the thynge that is ryght in myne eyes, and hast done vnto the house of Ahab accordinge to all thinges that are in myne hert, therfore shall thy children vnto the fourth generacyon syt on the seate of Israel.
10:31But Iehu cared not for this, to walke in the lawe of the Lord God of Israel with all his hert: for he departed not from the sinnes of Ieroboam, which made Israel to synne.
10:32In those dayes the Lorde began to cut Israel short: and Hazael smote them in all the coastes of Israel,
10:33from Iordan eastwarde: euen all the land of Gilead, the Gadites, the Rubenites, and them that were of Manasses, from Aroer vnto the ryuer of Arnon: euen Gilead & Basan.
10:34The rest of the wordes that concerne Iehu & all that he dyd, and all his power, are they not written in the boke of the Chronycles of the kynges of Israel?
10:35And Iehu slept wt hys fathers, & they buryed him in Samaria, and Iehoahaz his sonne raygned in hys steade.
10:36And the tyme that Iehu raygned vpon Israel in Samaria, is .xxviij. yeres.
