| 21:1 | And Satan stoode vp against Israel, and prouoked Dauid to number Israel. |
| 21:2 | And Dauid saide to Ioab, and to the rulers of the people, Goe, number Israel from Beer-sheba eueu to Dan: and bring the number of them to me, that I may know it. |
| 21:3 | And Ioab answered, The Lord make his people an hundred times so many moe as they bee: but, my lord the king, are they not al my lords seruants? why then doeth my lord require this thing? why will hee bee a cause of trespasse to Israel? |
| 21:4 | Neuerthelesse, the kings word preuailed against Ioab: wherefore Ioab departed, and went throughout all Israel, and came to Ierusalem. |
| 21:5 | And Ioab gaue the summe of the number of the people vnto Dauid: and all they of Israel were a thousand thousand, and an hundred thousand men that drew sword: and Iudah was foure hundred threescore and ten thousand men, that drew sword. |
| 21:6 | But Leui and Beniamin counted hee not among them: for the kings word was abominable to Ioab. |
| 21:7 | And God was displeased with this thing, therefore he smote Israel. |
| 21:8 | And Dauid saide vnto God, I haue sinned greatly, because I haue done this thing: but uow, I beseech thee, doe away the iniquitie of thy seruant, for I haue done very foolishly. |
| 21:9 | And the Lord spake vnto Gad, Dauids Seer, saying, |
| 21:10 | Goe and tell Dauid, saying, Thus saith the Lord, I offer thee three things, choose thee one of them, that I may doe it vnto thee. |
| 21:11 | So Gad came to Dauid, and said vnto him, Thus saith the Lord, Choose thee |
| 21:12 | Either three yeeres famine, or three moneths to bee destroyed before thy foes (while that the sword of thine enemies ouertaketh thee) or else three dayes the sword of the Lord, euen the pestilence in the land, and the Angel of the Lord destroying throughout all the coasts of Israel. Now therefore aduise thy selfe, what word I shall bring againe to him that sent me. |
| 21:13 | And Dauid said vnto Gad, I am in a great strait. Let mee fall now into the hand of the Lord (for very great are his mercies,) but let me not fall into the hand of man. |
| 21:14 | So the Lord sent pestilence vpon Israel: and there fell of Israel, seuentie thousand men. |
| 21:15 | And God sent an Angel vnto Ierusalem to destroy it: and as he was destroying, the Lord beheld, and he repented him of the euill, and said to the Angel that destroyed, It is ynough, stay now thine hand. And the Angel of the Lord stood by the threshing floore of Ornan the Iebusite. |
| 21:16 | And Dauid lift vp his eyes, and saw the Angel of the Lord stand betweene the earth and the heauen, hauing a drawen sword in his hand stretched out ouer Ierusalem. Then Dauid and the Elders of Israel, who were clothed in sackecloth, fell vpon their faces. |
| 21:17 | And Dauid said vnto God, Is it not I that commanded the people to be numbred? euen I it is that haue sinned, and done euill indeed, but as for these sheepe, what haue they done? Let thine hand, I pray thee, O Lord my God, be on me, and on my fathers house, but not on thy people, that they should bee plagued. |
| 21:18 | Then the Angel of the Lord commanded Gad to say to Dauid, that Dauid should goe vp and set vp an Altar vnto the Lord, in the threshing floore of Ornan the Iebusite. |
| 21:19 | And Dauid went vp at the saying of Gad, which he spake in the Name of the Lord. |
| 21:20 | And Ornan turned backe and saw the Angel, and his foure sonnes with him, hid themselues. Now Ornan was threshing wheat. |
| 21:21 | And as Dauid came to Ornan, Ornan looked and saw Dauid, and went out of the threshing floore, and bowed himselfe to Dauid with his face to the ground. |
| 21:22 | Then Dauid saide to Ornan, Grant mee the place of this threshing floore, that I may build an Altar therein vnto the Lord: thou shalt grant it mee for the full price, that the plague may be stayed from the people. |
| 21:23 | And Ornan saide vnto Dauid, Take it to thee, and let my lord the king do that which is good in his eyes. Loe, I giue thee the oxen also for burnt offerings, and the threshing instruments for wood, and the wheat for the meate offering, I giue it all. |
| 21:24 | And king Dauid said to Ornan; Nay, but I wil verily buy it for the full price: for I will not take that which is thine for the Lord, nor offer burnt offerings without cost. |
| 21:25 | So Dauid gaue to Ornan for the place, sixe hundred shekels of gold by weight. |
| 21:26 | And Dauid built there an Altar vnto the Lord, and offered burnt offerings, and peace offerings, and called vpon the Lord, and hee answered him from heauen by fire vpon the Altar of burnt offering. |
| 21:27 | And the Lord commaunded the Angel, and hee put vp his sword againe into the sheath thereof. |
| 21:28 | At that time, when Dauid saw that the Lord had answered him in the threshing floore of Ornan the Iebusite, then he sacrificed there. |
| 21:29 | For the tabernacle of the Lord which Moses made in the wildernesse, and the Altar of the burnt offering were at that season, in the high place at Gibeon: |
| 21:30 | But Dauid could not goe before it to euquire of God; for he was afraid, because of the sword of the Angel of the Lord. |

| 21:13 | And Dauid said vnto Gad, I am in a wonderfull strait. let me nowe fall into the hande of the Lord: for his mercies are exceeding great, and let me not fall into the hande of man. |
| 21:14 | So the Lord sent a pestilence in Israel, and there fell of Israel seuentie thousande men. |
| 21:15 | And God sent the Angel into Ierusalem to destroy it. And as he was destroying, the Lord behelde, and repented of the euill and sayde to the Angel that destroyed, It is nowe ynough, let thine hande cease. Then the Angel of the Lord stoode by the thresshing floore of Ornan the Iebusite. |
| 21:16 | And Dauid lift vp his eyes, and sawe the Angel of the Lord stande betweene the earth and the heauen with his sworde drawen in his hand, and stretched out towarde Ierusalem. Then Dauid and the Elders of Israel, which were clothed in sacke, fell vpon their faces. |
| 21:17 | And Dauid said vnto God, Is it not I that commanded to nomber the people? It is euen I that haue sinned and haue committed euil, but these sheepe what haue they done? O Lord my God, I beseech thee, let thine hande be on me and on my fathers house, and not on thy people for their destruction. |
| 21:18 | Then the Angel of the Lord commanded Gad to say to Dauid, that Dauid should goe vp, and set vp an altar vnto the Lord in the thresshing floore of Ornan the Iebusite. |
| 21:19 | So Dauid went vp according to the saying of Gad, which he had spoken in the Name of the Lord. |
| 21:20 | And Ornan turned about, and sawe the Angel, and his foure sonnes, that were with him, hid them selues, and Ornan thresshed wheat. |
| 21:21 | And as Dauid came to Ornan, Ornan looked and sawe Dauid, and went out of the thresshing floore, and bowed himselfe to Dauid with his face to the grounde. |
| 21:22 | And Dauid saide to Ornan, Giue me the place of thy thresshing floore, that I may builde an altar therein vnto the Lord: giue it me for sufficient money, that the plague may be stayed from the people. |
| 21:23 | Then Ornan saide vnto Dauid, Take it to thee, and let my lord the King do that which seemeth him good: loe, I giue thee bullockes for burnt offrings, and thresshing instruments for wood, and wheat for meate offring, I giue it all. |
| 21:24 | And King Dauid saide to Ornan, Not so: but I will bye it for sufficient money: for I wil not take that which is thine for the Lord, nor offer burnt offrings without cost. |
| 21:25 | So Dauid gaue to Ornan for that place sixe hundreth shekels of golde by weight. |
| 21:26 | And Dauid built there an altar vnto the Lord, and offred burnt offrings, and peace offrings, and called vpon the Lord, and he answered him by fire from heauen vpon the altar of burnt offring. |
| 21:27 | And when the Lord had spoken to the Angel, he put vp his sworde againe into his sheath. |
| 21:28 | At that time when Dauid sawe that the Lord had heard him in the thresshing floore of Ornan the Iebusite, then he sacrificed there. |
| 21:29 | (But the Tabernacle of the Lord which Moses had made in the wildernesse, and the altar of burnt offring were at that season in the hie place at Gibeon. |
| 21:30 | And Dauid could not go before it to aske counsel at God: for he was afraide of the sworde of the Angel of the Lord.) |

| 21:3 | And Ioab answered: the Lorde make hys people an hundred tymes so manye mo as they be. But my Lorde O king, are they not all my Lordes seruauntes? why then doth my Lorde requyre thys thynge? why wyll my Lorde be a cause of trespace to Israel? |
| 21:4 | Neuerthelesse, the kynges worde preuayled agaynst Ioab. And Ioab departed and walked thorowe out all them of Israel, and came to Ierusalem agayne |
| 21:5 | & gaue the nombre of the counte of the people vnto Dauid. And all they of Israel were a thousand thousande & an hundred thousande men that drue swerde: and Iuda was .cccc.lxx. thousande men that drue swerd. |
| 21:6 | But the Leuites and Ben Iamin counted he not amonge them. For the kynges worde was abhominable to Ioab. |
| 21:7 | And the Lorde was displeased with thys thynge, and smote Israel. |
| 21:8 | And Dauid sayde vnto God: I haue synned exceadyngly in doynge this thynge. And nowe (I beseche the) do awaye the wyckednesse of thy seruaunt, for I haue done very folyshlye. |
| 21:9 | And the Lorde spake vnto Gad Dauids sear, sayinge: |
| 21:10 | goo and tell Dauid, sayinge: Thus sayth the Lorde: I geue the, the choyse of thre thynges: chose the one of them, that I maye do vnto the. |
| 21:11 | And Gad came to Dauid, and sayde vnto hym. Thus sayth the Lorde. Chose the, |
| 21:12 | ether thre yeares famyshement, or thre monethes to be destroyed before thyne aduersaryes, and that the swerde of thyne enemyes maye ouertake the: or else the swerde of the Lorde and pestilence in the lande thre dayes, and the Angell of the Lorde destroying thorowe out all the coastes of Israel. And nowe aduise thy selfe, what worde I shall brynge agayne to hym that sent me. |
| 21:13 | And Dauid sayde vnto Gad. I am in an exceadynge straite: Let me fall nowe into the hande of the Lorde, for passynge great are hys mercyes, but let me not fall into the hand of men. |
| 21:14 | So the Lorde sent pestilence vpon Israel, and there were ouerthrowen of Israel .lxx. thousande men. |
| 21:15 | And God sent the Angel into Ierusalem to destroye in it. And as he was about to destroye, the Lord behelde, and had compassyon on the euyll, and sayde to the Angell that destroyed: it is ynough, let now thyne hande ceasse. And the Angell of the Lorde stode by the thresshynge flowre of Ornan the Iebusyte. |
| 21:16 | And Dauid lyfte vp hys eyes, and sawe the Angell of the Lord stande betwene the erth and heauen, hauynge a drawen swerde in hys hande, stretched out towarde Ierusalem. Then Dauid & the elders of Israel whych were clothed in sacke, fell vpon theyr faces. |
| 21:17 | And Dauid sayd vnto God: Is it not I that commaunded the people to be nombred? It is I that haue synned & done euell in dede, & what haue these shepe done? let thyne hande (O Lorde my God) be on me and on my fathers house, but not on thy people that they shulde be punysshed. |
| 21:18 | And the Angell of the Lorde commaunded Gad to saye to Dauid, that Dauid shulde go vp, and set vp an aulter vnto the Lorde, in the thresshynge flowre of Ornan the Iebusyte. |
| 21:19 | And Dauid went vp accordynge to the sayinge of Gad, which he spake in the name of the Lorde. |
| 21:20 | And Ornan turned aboute, and sawe the Angell, & hys foure sonnes were with hym, and hyd them selues: But Ornan was thresshyng wheat. |
| 21:21 | And as Dauid came to Ornan, Ornan loked & sawe Dauid, and went out of the thresshynge floure, and bowed hym selfe to Dauid wyth his face to the grounde. |
| 21:22 | And Dauid sayde to Ornan: geue me the place of the thresshyng flowre, that I maye buyld an aulter therin vnto the Lord. Thou shalt geue it me for as moche money as it is worthe, that the plage maye cease from the people. |
| 21:23 | And Ornan sayde vnto Dauid: take it to the, & let my Lord the kyng do that which semeth good in his eyes: loo, I geue the oxen also for burnt sacrifyces, & the thresshyng sleades for wodde, & wheate for meat offeryng: I geue it all. |
| 21:24 | And kynge Dauid sayd to Ornan: not so, but I wyll bye it for as moche moneye as it is worth. For I wyll not take that whych is thyne for the Lorde, ner offer burntoffrynges wythout coast. |
| 21:25 | And so Dauid gaue to Ornan for that place, sycles of gold .vi. hundred by waight. |
| 21:26 | And Dauid buylt there an aulter vnto the Lord, and offered burntofferynges & peaceoffrynges, and called vpon the Lord, and he heard hym from heauen in fyre vpon the aulter of burntoffering. |
| 21:27 | And whan the Lord had spoken to the Angell, he put vp his swerd agayne into the shethe of it. |
| 21:28 | At that tyme when Dauid sawe, that the Lorde had hearde hym in the thresshynge flowre of Ornan the Iebusyte: he vsed to offer there. |
| 21:29 | For the tabernacle of the Lord which Moses made in the wildernesse, and the aulter of burntofferynge were at that ceason in the hyll at Gibeon. |
| 21:30 | And Dauid coulde not go before it to aske councell at God, for he was aferde of the swerde of the Angell of the Lorde. |
