2 Chronicles - Chapter: 6

>
6:1Then said Solomon, The Lord hath said that he would dwell in the thicke darkenesse.
6:2But I haue built an house of habitation for thee, and a place for thy dwelling for euer.
6:3And the King turned his face and blessed the whole Congregation of Israel, (and all the Congregation of Israel stood)
6:4And he said, Blessed be the Lord God of Israel, who hath with his handes fulfilled that which he spake with his mouth to my father Dauid, saying,
6:5Since the day that I brought foorth my people out of the land of Egypt, I chose no citie among all the tribes of Israel to builde an house in, that my Name might be there, neither chose I any man to be a ruler ouer my people Israel:
6:6But I haue chosen Ierusalem, that my name might be there, and haue chosen Dauid to be ouer my people Israel.
6:7Now it was in the heart of Dauid my father to build an house for the Name of the Lord God of Israel.
6:8But the Lord said to Dauid my father: Forasmuch as it was in thine heart to builde an house for my Name, thou diddest well in that it was in thine heart.
6:9Notwithstanding thou shalt not build the house, but thy sonne which shall come foorth out of thy loynes, he shall build the house for my Name.
6:10The Lord therefore hath performed his word that he hath spoken: for I am risen vp in the roome of Dauid my father, and am set on the throne of Israel, as the Lord promised, and haue built the house for the Name of the Lord God of Israel.
6:11And in it haue I put the Arke, wherein is the Couenant of the Lord, that hee made with the children of Israel.
6:12And he stood before the Altar of the Lord, in the presence of all the Congregation of Israel, and spread foorth his hands:
6:13(For Solomon had made a brasen scaffold of fiue cubites long, and fiue cubites broad, and three cubites high, and had set it in the midst of the Court, and vpon it hee stood, and kneeled downe vpon his knees before all the Congregation of Israel, and spread foorth his hands towards heauen.)
6:14And said, O Lord God of Israel, there is no God like thee in the heauen, nor in the earth, which keepest couenant, and shewest mercy vnto thy seruants, that walke before thee with all their hearts,
6:15Thou which hast kept with thy seruant Dauid my father, that which thou hast promised him: and spakest with thy mouth, and hast fulfilled it with thine hand, as it is this day.
6:16Now therefore, O Lord God of Israel, keepe with thy seruant Dauid my father, that which thou hast promised him, saying, There shall not faile thee a man in my sight, to sit vpon the throne of Israel: yet so, that thy children take heede to their way, to walke in my Law, as thou hast walked before me.
6:17Now then, O Lord God of Israel, let thy word be verified, which thou hast spoken vnto thy seruant Dauid.
6:18(But wil God in very deed dwell with men on the earth? Behold, heauen, and the heauen of heauens cannot conteine thee: how much lesse this house which I haue built?)
6:19Haue respect therfore to the prayer of thy seruant, and to his supplication, O Lord my God, to hearken vnto the cry, and the prayer which thy seruant prayeth before thee:
6:20That thine eyes may bee open vpon this house day and night, vpon the place whereof thou hast saide, that thou wouldest put thy Name there, to hearken vnto the prayer, which thy seruant prayeth towards this place.
6:21Hearken therefore vnto the supplications of thy seruant, and of thy people Israel, which they shall make towards this place: heare thou from thy dwelling place, euen from heauen; and when thou hearest, forgiue.
6:22If a man sinne against his neighbour, and an oath be layd vpon him, to make him sweare, and the oath come before thine Altar in this house:
6:23Then heare thou from heauen, and doe, and iudge thy seruants by requiting the wicked, by recompensing his way vpon his owne head, and by iustifying the righteous, by giuing him according to his righteousnesse.
6:24And if thy people Israel be put to the worse before the enemy, because they haue sinned against thee, and shall returne and confesse thy Name, and pray and make supplication before thee in this house:
6:25Then heare thou from the heauens, and forgiue the sinne of thy people Israel, and bring them againe vnto the land which thou gauest to them, and to their fathers.
6:26When the heauen is shut vp, and there is no raine, because they haue sinned against thee: yet if they pray towards this place, and confesse thy Name, and turne from their sinne, when thou doest afflict them:
6:27Then heare thou from heauen, and forgiue the sinne of thy seruants, and of thy people Israel; when thou hast taught them the good way, wherein they should walke, and send raine vpon the land, which thou hast giuen vnto thy people for an inheritance.
6:28If there be dearth in the land, if there be pestilence, if there be blasting, or mil-dew, locusts or caterpillers; if their enemies besiege them in the cities of their land: whatsoeuer sore, or whatsoeuer sicknesse there be:
6:29Then what prayer, or what supplication soeuer shall bee made of any man, or of all thy people Israel, when euery one shal know his owne sore and his owne griefe, and shall spread foorth his hands in this house:
6:30Then heare thou from heauen thy dwelling place, and forgiue, and render vnto euery man according vnto all his wayes, whose heart thou knowest (for thou onely knowest the hearts of the children of men:)
6:31That they may feare thee, to walke in thy waies so long as they liue in the land which thou gauest vnto our fathers.
6:32Moreouer concerning the stranger which is not of thy people Israel, but is come from a farre countrey for thy great Names sake, & thy mightie hand, and thy stretched out arme: if they come and pray in this house:
6:33Then heare thou from the heauens, euen from thy dwelling place, and doe according to all that the stranger calleth to thee for; that all people of the earth may know thy Name, and feare thee, as doeth thy people Israel, and may know that this house which I haue built, is called by thy Name.
6:34If thy people goe out to warre against their enemies by the way that thou shalt send them, and they pray vnto thee toward this citie which thou hast chosen, and the house which I haue built for thy Name:
6:35Then heare thou from the heauens their prayer and their supplication, and maintaine their cause.
6:36If they sinne against thee (for there is no man which sinneth not) and thou be angry with them, and deliuer them ouer before their enemies, and they cary them away captiues vnto a land far off or neere:
6:37Yet if they bethinke themselues in the land whither they are caried captiue, and turne and pray vnto thee in the land of their captiuitie, saying, Wee haue sinned, we haue done amisse, and haue dealt wickedly:
6:38If they returne to thee with all their heart, and with all their soule, in the land of their captiuitie, whither they haue caried them captiues, and pray toward their land which thou gauest vnto their fathers, and toward the citie which thou hast chosen, and toward the house which I haue built for thy Name:
6:39Then heare thou from the heauens, euen from thy dwelling place, their prayer and their supplications, and maintaine their cause, and forgiue thy people, which haue sinned against thee.
6:40Now, my God, let (I beseech thee) thine eyes bee open, and let thine eares be attent vnto the prayer that is made in this place.
6:41Now therefore arise, O Lord God, into thy resting place, thou, and the Arke of thy strength: Let thy Priests, O Lord God, be clothed with saluation, and let thy Saints reioyce in goodnesse.
6:42O Lord God, turne not away the face of thine anointed: remember the mercies of Dauid thy seruant.

6:1Then Salomon sayd, The Lord hath sayde that he would dwell in the darke cloude:
6:2And I haue built thee an house to dwell in, an habitation for thee to dwell in for euer.
6:3And the King turned his face, and blessed all the Congregation of Israel (for all the Congregation of Israel stoode there)
6:4And he said, Blessed be the Lord God of Israel, who spake with his mouth vnto Dauid my father, and hath with his hand fulfilled it, saying,
6:5Since the day that I brought my people out of the land of Egypt, I chose no citie of al the tribes of Israel to buylde an house, that my Name might be there, neyther chose I any man to be a ruler ouer my people Israel:
6:6But I haue chosen Ierusalem, that my Name might be there, and haue chosen Dauid to be ouer my people Israel.
6:7And it was in the heart of Dauid my father to builde an house vnto the Name of the Lord God of Israel,
6:8But the Lord sayde to Dauid my father, Whereas it was in thine heart to buylde an house vnto my Name, thou diddest well, that thou wast so minded.
6:9Notwithstanding thou shalt not build the house, but thy sonne which shall come out of thy loynes, he shall buylde an house vnto my Name.
6:10And the Lord hath performed his worde that he spake: and I am risen vp in the roume of Dauid my father, and am set on the throne of Israel as the Lord promised, and haue built an house to the Name of the Lord God of Israel.
6:11And I haue set the Arke there, wherein is the couenant of the Lord, that he made with the children of Israel.
6:12And the King stoode before the altar of the Lord, in the presence of all the Congregation of Israel, and stretched out his hands,
6:13(For Salomon had made a brasen skaffold and set it in the middes of the court, of fiue cubites long, and fiue cubites broade, and three cubites of height, and vpon it he stoode, and kneeled downe vpon his knees before all the Congregation of Israel, and stretched out his hands toward heauen)
6:14And sayd, O Lord God of Israel, there is no God like thee in heauen nor in earth, which keepest couenant, and mercie vnto thy seruants, that walke before thee with all their heart.
6:15Thou that hast kept with thy seruant Dauid my father, that thou hast promised him: for thou spakest with thy mouth, and hast fulfilled it with thine hand, as appeareth this day.
6:16Therefore now Lord God of Israel, keepe with thy seruant Dauid my father, that thou hast promised him, saying, Thou shalt not want a man in my sight, that shall sit vpon the throne of Israel: so that thy sonnes take heede to their wayes, to walke in my Lawe, as thou hast walked before me.
6:17And now, O Lord God of Israel, let thy worde be verified, which thou spakest vnto thy seruant Dauid.
6:18(Is it true in deede that God will dwell with man on earth? beholde, the heauens, and the heauens of heauens are not able to conteine thee: how much more vnable is this house, which I haue buylt?)
6:19But haue thou respect to the prayer of thy seruant, and to his supplication, O Lord my God, to heare the crye and prayer which thy seruant prayeth before thee,
6:20That thine eyes may be open toward this house day and night, euen toward the place, whereof thou hast sayde, that thou wouldest put thy Name there, that thou mayest hearken vnto the prayer, which thy seruant prayeth in this place.
6:21Heare thou therefore the supplication of thy seruant, and of thy people Israel, which they pray in this place: and heare thou in the place of thine habitation, euen in heauen, and when thou hearest, be mercifull.
6:22When a man shall sinne against his neighbour, and he laye vpon him an othe to cause him to sweare, and the swearer shall come before thine altar in this house,
6:23Then heare thou in heauen, and doe, and iudge thy seruants, in recompensing the wicked to bring his way vpon his head, and in iustifying the righteous, to giue him according to his righteousnes.
6:24And when thy people Israel shalbe ouerthrowen before the enemie, because they haue sinned against thee, and turne againe, and confesse thy Name, and pray, and make supplication before thee in this house,
6:25Then heare thou in heauen, and be mercifull vnto the sinne of thy people Israel, and bring them againe vnto the land which thou gauest to them and to their fathers.
6:26When heauen shall be shut vp, and there shalbe no rayne, because they haue sinned against thee, and shall pray in this place, and confesse thy Name, and turne from their sinne, when thou doest afflict them,
6:27Then heare thou in heauen, and pardon the sinne of thy seruants, and of thy people Israel (when thou hast taught them the good way wherein they may walke) and giue rayne vpon thy lande, which thou hast giuen vnto thy people for an inheritance.
6:28When there shalbe famine in the land, when there shalbe pestilence, blasting, or mildew, when there shall be grashopper, or caterpiller, when their enemie shall besiege them in the cities of their land, or any plague or any sickenesse,
6:29Then what prayer and supplication so euer shalbe made of any man, or of all thy people Israel, whe euery one shall knowe his owne plague, and his owne disease, and shall stretch forth his hands toward this house,
6:30Heare thou then in heauen, thy dwelling place, and be merciful, and giue euery man according vnto all his wayes, as thou doest knowe his heart (for thou onely knowest the hearts of the children of men)
6:31That they may feare thee, and walke in thy wayes as long as they liue in the land which thou gauest vnto our fathers.
6:32Moreouer, as touching ye stranger which is not of thy people Israel, who shall come out of a farre countrey for thy great Names sake, and thy mighty hande, and thy stretched out arme: when they shall come and pray in this house,
6:33Heare thou in heauen thy dwelling place, and doe according to all that the stranger calleth for vnto thee, that all the people of the earth may knowe thy Name, and feare thee like thy people Israel, and that they may knowe, that thy Name is called vpon in this house which I haue built.
6:34When thy people shall goe out to battell against their enemies, by the way that thou shalt send them, and they pray to thee, in the way towarde this citie, which thou hast chosen, euen toward the house which I haue built to thy Name,
6:35Then heare thou in heauen their prayer and their supplication, and iudge their cause.
6:36If they sinne against thee ( for there is no man that sinneth not) and thou be angry with them and deliuer them vnto the enemies, and they take them and cary them away captiue vnto a land farre or neere,
6:37If they turne againe to their heart in the lande whither they be caryed in captiues, and turne and pray vnto thee in the lande of their captiuitie, saying, We haue sinned, we haue transgressed and haue done wickedly,
6:38If they turne againe to thee with all their heart, and with all their soule in the land of their captiuitie, whither they haue caryed them captiues, and pray toward their land, which thou gauest vnto their fathers, and toward the citie which thou hast chosen, and toward the house which I haue built for thy Name,
6:39Then heare thou in heauen, in the place of thine habitation their prayer and their supplication, and iudge their cause, and be mercifull vnto thy people, which haue sinned against thee.
6:40Nowe my God, I beseech thee, let thine eyes be open, and thine eares attent vnto the prayer that is made in this place.
6:41Nowe therefore arise, O Lord God, to come into thy rest, thou, and the Arke of thy strength: O Lord God, let thy Priestes be clothed with saluation, and let thy Saints reioyce in goodnesse.
6:42O Lord God, refuse not the face of thine anoynted: remember the mercies promised to Dauid thy seruant.

6:1Then Salomon sayde: the Lorde hath spoken, howe that he wyll dwell in the cloude.
6:2And I haue buylt an habitacyon for the, and a place for thy dwellynge for euer.
6:3And the kynge turned his face, and blessed the hole congregacyon of Israel, and all the congregacyon of Israel stode.
6:4And he sayde: blessed be the Lorde God of Israel which hath with his handes, fulfylled it, that he spake with his mouth to my father Dauid, sayinge:
6:5sence the daye that I brought my people out of the lande of Egypt, I chose no cytie amonge all the trybes of Israel to buylde an house in, that my name myght be there, nether chose I any man to be a ruler ouer my people Israel:
6:6sauynge that I haue chosen Ierusalem, that my name myght be there, and haue chosen Dauid to be ouer my people Israel.
6:7And whan it was in the herte of Dauid my father to buylde an house for the name of the Lord God of Israel:
6:8the Lord sayd to Dauid my father: for as moch as it was in thyne herte to buylde an house for my name, thou dydest well that thou so thoughtest in thyne hert.
6:9Notwithstandynge, thou shalt not buylde the house, but thy sonne which is proceaded out of thy loynes, he shall builde an house for my name.
6:10The Lorde therfore, hath made good his sayinge that he hath spoken, and I am rysen vp in the rowme of Dauid my father, and am set on the seate of Israel, as the Lord promysed, and haue buylt an house for the name of the Lorde God of Israel.
6:11And in it haue I put the Arcke, wherin is the couenaunt of the Lorde that he made with the children of Israel.
6:12And the kynge stode before the aulter of the Lorde in the presence of all the congregacyon of Israel, and stretched out his handes.
6:13For nowe Salomon had made a brasen pulpyt of fyue cubytes longe & fyue cubytes broad, and thre of heyght, & had set it in the myddes of the great courte, & vpon it, he stode and kneled downe, vpon his knees before all the congregacyon of Israel & stretched out his handes towarde heauen,
6:14& sayde: O Lorde God of Israel, there is no God lyke the in heauen and in erth, which kepest couenaunt and shewest mercye vnto thy seruauntes that walke before the with all their hertes.
6:15Thou which hast kept wt thy seruaunt Dauid my father the thynges that thou promisedest him: thou saydest it wt thy mouth, and hast fulfylled it with thyne handes, as it is to se this daye.
6:16And nowe Lorde God of Israel, kepe wt thy seruaunt Dauid my father, the thynges that thou promysedest him, sayinge: thou shalt in my syght not be without a man, that shall sytte vpon the seate of Israel: so that thy children take hede to their wayes, to walcke in my lawe, as thou hast walked before me.
6:17And nowe Lord God of Israel, lett thy sayinge be true which thou spakest vnto thy seruaunt Dauid.
6:18And wyll God in very dede, dwell with men on erthe? Beholde heauen and heauen aboue all heauens do not contayne the: howe moch lesse the house which I haue buylded?
6:19Let it be thy pleasure therfore to turne to the prayer of thy seruaunte and to his supplicacyon (O Lorde my God) to herken vnto the voyce and prayer which thy seruaunt prayeth before the:
6:20and let thyne eyes be open towarde this house daye and nyght, ouer this place, wherin thou hast sayde, that thou woldest put thy name: to herken vnto the prayer which thy seruaunte prayeth in this place:
6:21herken vnto the prayers of thy seruaunt & of thy people Israel, which they praye in this place: heare thou (I saye) out of thy dwellinge place, euen out of heauen: heare and be mercyfull.
6:22If a man synne agaynst his neyboure, and take on ooth against him, and make him to sweare, & they both come before thyne aulter in this house:
6:23then heare thou from heauen, and worcke, & iudge thy seruauntes, that thou rewarde the vngodly, & recompence him his waye vpon his heed, and iustefye the ryghteous, and geue him accordynge to his ryghtwesnesse.
6:24And yf thy people Israel be put to the worse before the enemye, because they haue synned agaynst the. Yet yf they turne & geue thankes vnto thy name, and make intercessyon, and praye before the in this house:
6:25then heare thou from heauen, and be mercyfull vnto the synne of thy people Israel, and brynge them agayne vnto the lande, which thou gauest to them and to their fathers.
6:26Whan heauen is shutt vp, and there be no rayne, because they haue synned agaynst the: yet yf they praye in this place, and confesse thy name, and repent from their synne for the which thou chastenest them:
6:27then heare thou in heauen, & be mercyfull vnto the synne of thy seruauntes and of thy people Israel, and guyde thou them into the good waye, to walke in, and sende rayne vpon thy lande, which thou hast geuen vnto thy people, for an enheritaunce.
6:28And yf there be dearth in the lande, or pestylence, corrupcyon, or blastinge of corne, grashoppers, or caterpyllers, or that theyr enemyes besege them in the cyties of theyr lande, or whatsoeuer plage or syckenesse it be.
6:29Then what supplicacyons and prayers soeuer shalbe made of any man, & of all thy people Israel, whych shall knowe euery man his awne sore and his awne greffe, and shall stretche out their handes towarde this house,
6:30thou shalt heare from heauen, euen from thy dwellynge place, and shalt be mercyfull, and geue euery man accordynge vnto all his wayes, euen as thou doest knowe euery mannes herte: for thou onely knowest the hertes of the chyldren of men:
6:31that they maye feare the & walke in thy wayes as longe as they lyue in the lande, which thou gauest vnto oure fathers.
6:32Moreouer, the straunger which is not of thy people Israel, yf he come from a farre lande for thy greate names sake, and thy myghtye hande, and thy stretched oute arme, Yf they come (I saye) & praye in thy house:
6:33thou shalt heare from heauen, euen from thy dwellynge place, and shalt do accordynge to all that the straunger calleth to the for. That all people of the erth maye knowe thy name, and feare the, as doeth thy people Israel, and that they maye knowe, howe that in thys house which I haue buylt, thy name is called vpon.
6:34Yf thy people go out to warre agaynst their enemyes, by the waye that thou shalt sende them, and they praye to the, in the waye towarde this cytie which thou hast chosen, euen towarde the house which I haue buylt for thy name:
6:35then heare thou from heauen their supplicacyon and prayer, and helpe them in theyr ryght.
6:36If they synne agaynst the, as there is no man but he doth synne, and thou be angrye with them, and delyuer them ouer before their enemyes, and they take them and leade them awaye vnto a lande ferre or neare,
6:37yet yf they repent in their hert in the lande where they be in captyuite, and turne, and praye vnto the in the lande of their captiuite, sayinge: we haue synned, we haue done euell & wyckedlye,
6:38and turne agayne to the, wyth all their herte and all their soule, in the lande of their captyuite, where they kepe them in bondage, and so praye towarde theyr lande which thou gauest vnto their fathers, euen towarde the cytie whych thou hast chosen, and towarde the house which I haue buylt for thy name.
6:39Then heare thou from heauen euen from thy dwellinge place, their supplicacion and their prayer, and iudge their cause, and be mercyfull vnto thy people, which haue synned agaynst the.
6:40Nowe my God, let thyne eyes be open, and thyne eares attent vnto the prayer that is made in this place.
6:41Nowe vp O Lorde God into thy restynge place: thou and the Arcke of thy strengthe. O Lorde God, let thy preastes be clothed with health, and let thy saynctes reioyse in goodnesse.
6:42O Lord God, turne not a waye the face of thyne anoynted. Remembre the mercyes, which thou hast promysed to Dauid thy seruaunte.
