2 Chronicles - Chapter: 10


10:1	And Rehoboam went to Shechem: for to Shechem were all Israel come to make him king.
10:2	And it came to pass, when Jeroboam the son of Nebat, who was in Egypt, whither he had fled from the presence of Solomon the king, heard it, that Jeroboam returned out of Egypt.
10:3	And they sent and called him. So Jeroboam and all Israel came and spake to Rehoboam, saying,
10:4	Thy father made our yoke grievous: now therefore ease thou somewhat the grievous servitude of thy father, and his heavy yoke that he put upon us, and we will serve thee.
10:5	And he said unto them, Come again unto me after three days. And the people departed.
10:6	And king Rehoboam took counsel with the old men that had stood before Solomon his father while he yet lived, saying, What counsel give ye me to return answer to this people?
10:7	And they spake unto him, saying, If thou be kind to this people, and please them, and speak good words to them, they will be thy servants for ever.
10:8	But he forsook the counsel which the old men gave him, and took counsel with the young men that were brought up with him, that stood before him.
10:9	And he said unto them, What advice give ye that we may return answer to this people, which have spoken to me, saying, Ease somewhat the yoke that thy father did put upon us?
10:10	And the young men that were brought up with him spake unto him, saying, Thus shalt thou answer the people that spake unto thee, saying, Thy father made our yoke heavy, but make thou it somewhat lighter for us; thus shalt thou say unto them, My little finger shall be thicker than my father's loins.
10:11	For whereas my father put a heavy yoke upon you, I will put more to your yoke: my father chastised you with whips, but I will chastise you with scorpions.
10:12	So Jeroboam and all the people came to Rehoboam on the third day, as the king bade, saying, Come again to me on the third day.
10:13	And the king answered them roughly; and king Rehoboam forsook the counsel of the old men,
10:14	And answered them after the advice of the young men, saying, My father made your yoke heavy, but I will add thereto: my father chastised you with whips, but I will chastise you with scorpions.
10:15	So the king hearkened not unto the people: for the cause was of God, that the LORD might perform his word, which he spake by the hand of Ahijah the Shilonite to Jeroboam the son of Nebat.
10:16	And when all Israel saw that the king would not hearken unto them, the people answered the king, saying, What portion have we in David? and we have none inheritance in the son of Jesse: every man to your tents, O Israel: and now, David, see to thine own house. So all Israel went to their tents.
10:17	But as for the children of Israel that dwelt in the cities of Judah, Rehoboam reigned over them.
10:18	Then king Rehoboam sent Hadoram that was over the tribute; and the children of Israel stoned him with stones, that he died. But king Rehoboam made speed to get him up to his chariot, to flee to Jerusalem.
10:19	And Israel rebelled against the house of David unto this day.


10:1	וילך רחבעם שׁכמה כי שׁכם באו כל ישׂראל להמליך אתו׃
10:2	ויהי כשׁמע ירבעם בן נבט והוא במצרים אשׁר ברח מפני שׁלמה המלך וישׁב ירבעם ממצרים׃
10:3	וישׁלחו ויקראו לו ויבא ירבעם וכל ישׂראל וידברו אל רחבעם לאמר׃
10:4	אביך הקשׁה את עלנו ועתה הקל מעבדת אביך הקשׁה ומעלו הכבד אשׁר נתן עלינו ונעבדך׃
10:5	ויאמר אלהם עוד שׁלשׁת ימים ושׁובו אלי וילך העם׃
10:6	ויועץ המלך רחבעם את הזקנים אשׁר היו עמדים לפני שׁלמה אביו בהיתו חי לאמר איך אתם נועצים להשׁיב לעם הזה דבר׃
10:7	וידברו אליו לאמר אם תהיה לטוב להעם הזה ורציתם ודברת אלהם דברים טובים והיו לך עבדים כל הימים׃
10:8	ויעזב את עצת הזקנים אשׁר יעצהו ויועץ את הילדים אשׁר גדלו אתו העמדים לפניו׃
10:9	ויאמר אלהם מה אתם נועצים ונשׁיב דבר את העם הזה אשׁר דברו אלי לאמר הקל מן העל אשׁר נתן אביך עלינו׃
10:10	וידברו אתו הילדים אשׁר גדלו אתו לאמר כה תאמר לעם אשׁר דברו אליך לאמר אביך הכביד את עלנו ואתה הקל מעלינו כה תאמר אלהם קטני עבה ממתני אבי׃
10:11	ועתה אבי העמיס עליכם על כבד ואני אסיף על עלכם אבי יסר אתכם בשׁוטים ואני בעקרבים׃
10:12	ויבא ירבעם וכל העם אל רחבעם ביום השׁלשׁי כאשׁר דבר המלך לאמר שׁובו אלי ביום השׁלשׁי׃
10:13	ויענם המלך קשׁה ויעזב המלך רחבעם את עצת הזקנים׃
10:14	וידבר אלהם כעצת הילדים לאמר אכביד את עלכם ואני אסיף עליו אבי יסר אתכם בשׁוטים ואני בעקרבים׃
10:15	ולא שׁמע המלך אל העם כי היתה נסבה מעם האלהים למען הקים יהוה את דברו אשׁר דבר ביד אחיהו השׁלוני אל ירבעם בן נבט׃
10:16	וכל ישׂראל כי לא שׁמע המלך להם וישׁיבו העם את המלך לאמר מה לנו חלק בדויד ולא נחלה בבן ישׁי אישׁ לאהליך ישׂראל עתה ראה ביתך דויד וילך כל ישׂראל לאהליו׃
10:17	ובני ישׂראל הישׁבים בערי יהודה וימלך עליהם רחבעם׃
10:18	וישׁלח המלך רחבעם את הדרם אשׁר על המס וירגמו בו בני ישׂראל אבן וימת והמלך רחבעם התאמץ לעלות במרכבה לנוס ירושׁלם׃
10:19	ויפשׁעו ישׂראל בבית דויד עד היום הזה׃


10:1	And Rehoboam goeth to Shechem, for `to' Shechem have all Israel come to cause him to reign.
10:2	And it cometh to pass, at Jeroboam son of Nebat's -- who `is' in Egypt because he hath fled from the face of Solomon the king -- hearing, that Jeroboam turneth back out of Egypt;
10:3	and they send and call for him, and Jeroboam cometh in, and all Israel, and speak unto Rehoboam, saying,
10:4	`Thy father made our yoke sharp, and now, make light `somewhat' of the sharp service of thy father, and of his heavy yoke that he put upon us, and we serve thee.'
10:5	And he saith unto them, `Yet three days -- then return ye unto me;' and the people go.
10:6	And king Rehoboam consulteth with the aged men who have been standing before Solomon his father in his being alive, saying, `How are ye counselling to answer this people?'
10:7	And they speak unto him, saying, `If thou dost become good to this people, and hast been pleased with them, and spoken unto them good words, then they have been to thee servants all the days.'
10:8	And he forsaketh the counsel of the aged men that they counselled him, and consulteth with the lads who have grown up with him, those standing before him,
10:9	and he saith unto them, `What are ye counselling, and we answer this people that have spoken unto me, saying, Make light `somewhat' of the yoke that thy father put upon us?'
10:10	And the lads who have grown up with him, speak with him, saying, `Thus dost thou say to the people who have spoken unto thee, saying, Thy father made our yoke heavy, and thou, make light `somewhat' of our yoke; thus dost thou say unto them, My little finger is thicker than the loins of my father;
10:11	and now, my father laid on you a heavy yoke, and I -- I add unto your yoke; my father chastised you with whips, and I -- with scorpions.'
10:12	And Jeroboam cometh in, and all the people, unto Rehoboam on the third day, as the king spake, saying, `Return unto me on the third day.'
10:13	And the king answereth them sharply, and king Rehoboam forsaketh the counsel of the aged men,
10:14	and speaketh unto them according to the counsel of the lads, saying, `My father made your yoke heavy, and I -- I add unto it; my father chastised you with whips, and I -- with scorpions.'
10:15	And the king hath not hearkened unto the people, for the revolution hath been from God, for the sake of Jehovah's establishing His word that He spake by the hand of Abijah the Shilonite unto Jeroboam son of Nebat.
10:16	And all Israel have seen that the king hath not hearkened to them, and the people send back `to' the king, saying, `What portion have we in David? yea, there is no inheritance in a son of Jesse; each to thy tents, O Israel; now, see thy house -- David,' and all Israel go to their tents.
10:17	As to the sons of Israel who are dwelling in the cities of Judah -- Rehoboam reigneth over them.
10:18	And king Rehoboam sendeth Hadoram, who `is' over the tribute, and the sons of Israel cast at him stones, and he dieth; and king Rehoboam hath strengthened himself to go up into a chariot to flee to Jerusalem;
10:19	and Israel transgress against the house of David unto this day.
