| 22:1 | And the inhabitants of Jerusalem made Ahaziah his youngest son king in his stead: for the band of men that came with the Arabians to the camp had slain all the eldest. So Ahaziah the son of Jehoram king of Judah reigned. |
| 22:2 | Forty and two years old was Ahaziah when he began to reign, and he reigned one year in Jerusalem. His mother's name also was Athaliah the daughter of Omri. |
| 22:3 | He also walked in the ways of the house of Ahab: for his mother was his counsellor to do wickedly. |
| 22:4 | Wherefore he did evil in the sight of the LORD like the house of Ahab: for they were his counsellors after the death of his father to his destruction. |
| 22:5 | He walked also after their counsel, and went with Jehoram the son of Ahab king of Israel to war against Hazael king of Syria at Ramothgilead: and the Syrians smote Joram. |
| 22:6 | And he returned to be healed in Jezreel because of the wounds which were given him at Ramah, when he fought with Hazael king of Syria. And Azariah the son of Jehoram king of Judah went down to see Jehoram the son of Ahab at Jezreel, because he was sick. |
| 22:7 | And the destruction of Ahaziah was of God by coming to Joram: for when he was come, he went out with Jehoram against Jehu the son of Nimshi, whom the LORD had anointed to cut off the house of Ahab. |
| 22:8 | And it came to pass, that, when Jehu was executing judgment upon the house of Ahab, and found the princes of Judah, and the sons of the brethren of Ahaziah, that ministered to Ahaziah, he slew them. |
| 22:9 | And he sought Ahaziah: and they caught him, (for he was hid in Samaria,) and brought him to Jehu: and when they had slain him, they buried him: Because, said they, he is the son of Jehoshaphat, who sought the LORD with all his heart. So the house of Ahaziah had no power to keep still the kingdom. |
| 22:10 | But when Athaliah the mother of Ahaziah saw that her son was dead, she arose and destroyed all the seed royal of the house of Judah. |
| 22:11 | But Jehoshabeath, the daughter of the king, took Joash the son of Ahaziah, and stole him from among the king's sons that were slain, and put him and his nurse in a bedchamber. So Jehoshabeath, the daughter of king Jehoram, the wife of Jehoiada the priest, (for she was the sister of Ahaziah,) hid him from Athaliah, so that she slew him not. |
| 22:12 | And he was with them hid in the house of God six years: and Athaliah reigned over the land. |
| 22:1 | וימליכו יושׁבי ירושׁלם את אחזיהו בנו הקטן תחתיו כי כל הראשׁנים הרג הגדוד הבא בערבים למחנה וימלך אחזיהו בן יהורם מלך יהודה׃ |
| 22:2 | בן ארבעים ושׁתים שׁנה אחזיהו במלכו ושׁנה אחת מלך בירושׁלם ושׁם אמו עתליהו בת עמרי׃ |
| 22:3 | גם הוא הלך בדרכי בית אחאב כי אמו היתה יועצתו להרשׁיע׃ |
| 22:4 | ויעשׂ הרע בעיני יהוה כבית אחאב כי המה היו לו יועצים אחרי מות אביו למשׁחית׃ |
| 22:5 | גם בעצתם הלך וילך את יהורם בן אחאב מלך ישׂראל למלחמה על חזאל מלך ארם ברמות גלעד ויכו הרמים את יורם׃ |
| 22:6 | וישׁב להתרפא ביזרעאל כי המכים אשׁר הכהו ברמה בהלחמו את חזהאל מלך ארם ועזריהו בן יהורם מלך יהודה ירד לראות את יהורם בן אחאב ביזרעאל כי חלה הוא׃ |
| 22:7 | ומאלהים היתה תבוסת אחזיהו לבוא אל יורם ובבאו יצא עם יהורם אל יהוא בן נמשׁי אשׁר משׁחו יהוה להכרית את בית אחאב׃ |
| 22:8 | ויהי כהשׁפט יהוא עם בית אחאב וימצא את שׂרי יהודה ובני אחי אחזיהו משׁרתים לאחזיהו ויהרגם׃ |
| 22:9 | ויבקשׁ את אחזיהו וילכדהו והוא מתחבא בשׁמרון ויבאהו אל יהוא וימתהו ויקברהו כי אמרו בן יהושׁפט הוא אשׁר דרשׁ את יהוה בכל לבבו ואין לבית אחזיהו לעצר כח לממלכה׃ |
| 22:10 | ועתליהו אם אחזיהו ראתה כי מת בנה ותקם ותדבר את כל זרע הממלכה לבית יהודה׃ |
| 22:11 | ותקח יהושׁבעת בת המלך את יואשׁ בן אחזיהו ותגנב אתו מתוך בני המלך המומתים ותתן אתו ואת מינקתו בחדר המטות ותסתירהו יהושׁבעת בת המלך יהורם אשׁת יהוידע הכהן כי היא היתה אחות אחזיהו מפני עתליהו ולא המיתתהו׃ |
| 22:12 | ויהי אתם בבית האלהים מתחבא שׁשׁ שׁנים ועתליה מלכת על הארץ׃ |
| 22:1 | And the inhabitants of Jerusalem cause Ahaziah his youngest son to reign in his stead, (for all the elder had the troop slain that came in with the Arabians to the camp,) and Ahaziah son of Jehoram king of Judah reigneth. |
| 22:2 | A son of twenty and two years `is' Ahaziah in his reigning, and one year he hath reigned in Jerusalem, and the name of his mother `is' Athaliah daughter of Omri; |
| 22:3 | he also hath walked in the ways of the house of Ahab, for his mother hath been his counsellor to do wickedly. |
| 22:4 | And he doth the evil thing in the eyes of Jehovah, like the house of Ahab, for they have been his counsellors, after the death of his father, for destruction to him. |
| 22:5 | Also, in their counsel he hath walked, and goeth with Jehoram son of Ahab king of Israel to battle against Hazael king of Aram, in Ramoth-Gilead, and they of Ramah smite Joram; |
| 22:6 | and he turneth back to be healed in Jezreel because of the wounds with which they had smitten him in Ramah, in his fighting with Hazael king of Aram. And Azariah son of Jehoram king of Judah hath gone down to see Jehoram son of Ahab, in Jezreel, for he `is' sick; |
| 22:7 | and from God hath been the destruction of Ahaziah, to come unto Joram: and in his coming he hath gone out with Jehoram unto Jehu son of Nimshi, whom Jehovah anointed to cut off the house of Ahab. |
| 22:8 | And it cometh to pass, in Jehu's executing judgment with the house of Ahab, that he findeth the heads of Judah and sons of the brethren of Ahaziah, ministers of Ahaziah, and slayeth them. |
| 22:9 | And he seeketh Ahaziah, and they capture him, (and he is hiding himself in Samaria), and bring him in unto Jehu, and put him to death, and bury him, for they said, `He `is' son of Jehoshaphat, who sought Jehovah with all his heart;' and there is none to the house of Ahaziah to retain power for the kingdom. |
| 22:10 | And Athaliah mother of Ahaziah hath seen that her son is dead, and she riseth and destroyeth the whole seed of the kingdom of the house of Judah. |
| 22:11 | And Jehoshabeath daughter of the king taketh Joash son of Ahaziah, and stealeth him from the midst of the sons of the king who are put to death, and putteth him and his nurse into the inner part of the bed-chambers, and Jehoshabeath daughter of king Jehoram, wife of Jehoiada the priest, because she hath been sister of Ahaziah, hideth him from the face of Athaliah, and she hath not put him to death. |
| 22:12 | And he is with them in the house of God hiding himself six years, and Athaliah is reigning over the land. |
