2 Chronicles - Chapter: 26


26:1	Then all the people of Judah took Uzziah, who was sixteen years old, and made him king in the room of his father Amaziah.
26:2	He built Eloth, and restored it to Judah, after that the king slept with his fathers.
26:3	Sixteen years old was Uzziah when he began to reign, and he reigned fifty and two years in Jerusalem. His mother's name also was Jecoliah of Jerusalem.
26:4	And he did that which was right in the sight of the LORD, according to all that his father Amaziah did.
26:5	And he sought God in the days of Zechariah, who had understanding in the visions of God: and as long as he sought the LORD, God made him to prosper.
26:6	And he went forth and warred against the Philistines, and brake down the wall of Gath, and the wall of Jabneh, and the wall of Ashdod, and built cities about Ashdod, and among the Philistines.
26:7	And God helped him against the Philistines, and against the Arabians that dwelt in Gurbaal, and the Mehunims.
26:8	And the Ammonites gave gifts to Uzziah: and his name spread abroad even to the entering in of Egypt; for he strengthened himself exceedingly.
26:9	Moreover Uzziah built towers in Jerusalem at the corner gate, and at the valley gate, and at the turning of the wall, and fortified them.
26:10	Also he built towers in the desert, and digged many wells: for he had much cattle, both in the low country, and in the plains: husbandmen also, and vine dressers in the mountains, and in Carmel: for he loved husbandry.
26:11	Moreover Uzziah had an host of fighting men, that went out to war by bands, according to the number of their account by the hand of Jeiel the scribe and Maaseiah the ruler, under the hand of Hananiah, one of the king's captains.
26:12	The whole number of the chief of the fathers of the mighty men of valour were two thousand and six hundred.
26:13	And under their hand was an army, three hundred thousand and seven thousand and five hundred, that made war with mighty power, to help the king against the enemy.
26:14	And Uzziah prepared for them throughout all the host shields, and spears, and helmets, and habergeons, and bows, and slings to cast stones.
26:15	And he made in Jerusalem engines, invented by cunning men, to be on the towers and upon the bulwarks, to shoot arrows and great stones withal. And his name spread far abroad; for he was marvellously helped, till he was strong.
26:16	But when he was strong, his heart was lifted up to his destruction: for he transgressed against the LORD his God, and went into the temple of the LORD to burn incense upon the altar of incense.
26:17	And Azariah the priest went in after him, and with him fourscore priests of the LORD, that were valiant men:
26:18	And they withstood Uzziah the king, and said unto him, It appertaineth not unto thee, Uzziah, to burn incense unto the LORD, but to the priests the sons of Aaron, that are consecrated to burn incense: go out of the sanctuary; for thou hast trespassed; neither shall it be for thine honour from the LORD God.
26:19	Then Uzziah was wroth, and had a censer in his hand to burn incense: and while he was wroth with the priests, the leprosy even rose up in his forehead before the priests in the house of the LORD, from beside the incense altar.
26:20	And Azariah the chief priest, and all the priests, looked upon him, and, behold, he was leprous in his forehead, and they thrust him out from thence; yea, himself hasted also to go out, because the LORD had smitten him.
26:21	And Uzziah the king was a leper unto the day of his death, and dwelt in a several house, being a leper; for he was cut off from the house of the LORD: and Jotham his son was over the king's house, judging the people of the land.
26:22	Now the rest of the acts of Uzziah, first and last, did Isaiah the prophet, the son of Amoz, write.
26:23	So Uzziah slept with his fathers, and they buried him with his fathers in the field of the burial which belonged to the kings; for they said, He is a leper: and Jotham his son reigned in his stead.


26:1	ויקחו כל עם יהודה את עזיהו והוא בן שׁשׁ עשׂרה שׁנה וימליכו אתו תחת אביו אמציהו׃
26:2	הוא בנה את אילות וישׁיבה ליהודה אחרי שׁכב המלך עם אבתיו׃
26:3	בן שׁשׁ עשׂרה שׁנה עזיהו במלכו וחמשׁים ושׁתים שׁנה מלך בירושׁלם ושׁם אמו יכיליה מן ירושׁלם׃
26:4	ויעשׂ הישׁר בעיני יהוה ככל אשׁר עשׂה אמציהו אביו׃
26:5	ויהי לדרשׁ אלהים בימי זכריהו המבין בראת האלהים ובימי דרשׁו את יהוה הצליחו האלהים׃
26:6	ויצא וילחם בפלשׁתים ויפרץ את חומת גת ואת חומת יבנה ואת חומת אשׁדוד ויבנה ערים באשׁדוד ובפלשׁתים׃
26:7	ויעזרהו האלהים על פלשׁתים ועל הערביים הישׁבים בגור בעל והמעונים׃
26:8	ויתנו העמונים מנחה לעזיהו וילך שׁמו עד לבוא מצרים כי החזיק עד למעלה׃
26:9	ויבן עזיהו מגדלים בירושׁלם על שׁער הפנה ועל שׁער הגיא ועל המקצוע ויחזקם׃
26:10	ויבן מגדלים במדבר ויחצב ברות רבים כי מקנה רב היה לו ובשׁפלה ובמישׁור אכרים וכרמים בהרים ובכרמל כי אהב אדמה היה׃
26:11	ויהי לעזיהו חיל עשׂה מלחמה יוצאי צבא לגדוד במספר פקדתם ביד יעואל הסופר ומעשׂיהו השׁוטר על יד חנניהו משׂרי המלך׃
26:12	כל מספר ראשׁי האבות לגבורי חיל אלפים ושׁשׁ מאות׃
26:13	ועל ידם חיל צבא שׁלשׁ מאות אלף ושׁבעת אלפים וחמשׁ מאות עושׂי מלחמה בכח חיל לעזר למלך על האויב׃
26:14	ויכן להם עזיהו לכל הצבא מגנים ורמחים וכובעים ושׁרינות וקשׁתות ולאבני קלעים׃
26:15	ויעשׂ בירושׁלם חשׁבנות מחשׁבת חושׁב להיות על המגדלים ועל הפנות לירוא בחצים ובאבנים גדלות ויצא שׁמו עד למרחוק כי הפליא להעזר עד כי חזק׃
26:16	וכחזקתו גבה לבו עד להשׁחית וימעל ביהוה אלהיו ויבא אל היכל יהוה להקטיר על מזבח הקטרת׃
26:17	ויבא אחריו עזריהו הכהן ועמו כהנים ליהוה שׁמונים בני חיל׃
26:18	ויעמדו על עזיהו המלך ויאמרו לו לא לך עזיהו להקטיר ליהוה כי לכהנים בני אהרן המקדשׁים להקטיר צא מן המקדשׁ כי מעלת ולא לך לכבוד מיהוה אלהים׃
26:19	ויזעף עזיהו ובידו מקטרת להקטיר ובזעפו עם הכהנים והצרעת זרחה במצחו לפני הכהנים בבית יהוה מעל למזבח הקטרת׃
26:20	ויפן אליו עזריהו כהן הראשׁ וכל הכהנים והנה הוא מצרע במצחו ויבהלוהו משׁם וגם הוא נדחף לצאת כי נגעו יהוה׃
26:21	ויהי עזיהו המלך מצרע עד יום מותו וישׁב בית החפשׁות מצרע כי נגזר מבית יהוה ויותם בנו על בית המלך שׁופט את עם הארץ׃
26:22	ויתר דברי עזיהו הראשׁנים והאחרנים כתב ישׁעיהו בן אמוץ הנביא׃
26:23	וישׁכב עזיהו עם אבתיו ויקברו אתו עם אבתיו בשׂדה הקבורה אשׁר למלכים כי אמרו מצורע הוא וימלך יותם בנו תחתיו׃


26:1	And all the people of Judah take Uzziah (and he `is' a son of sixteen years), and cause him to reign instead of his father Amaziah.
26:2	He hath built Eloth, and restoreth it to Judah after the king's lying with his fathers.
26:3	A son of sixteen years `is' Uzziah in his reigning, and fifty and two years he hath reigned in Jerusalem, and the name of his mother `is' Jecholiah of Jerusalem.
26:4	And he doth that which is right in the eyes of Jehovah, according to all that Amaziah his father did,
26:5	and he is as one seeking God in the days of Zechariah who hath understanding in visions of God: and in the days of his seeking Jehovah, God hath caused him to prosper.
26:6	And he goeth forth, and fighteth with the Philistines, and breaketh down the wall of Gath, and the wall of Jabneh, and the wall of Ashdod, and buildeth cities about Ashdod, and among the Philistines.
26:7	And God helpeth him against the Philistines, and against the Arabians who are dwelling in Gur-Baal and the Mehunim.
26:8	And the Ammonites give a present to Uzziah, and his name goeth unto the entering in of Egypt, for he strengthened himself greatly.
26:9	And Uzziah buildeth towers in Jerusalem, by the gate of the corner, and by the gate of the valley, and by the angle, and strengtheneth them;
26:10	and he buildeth towers in the wilderness, and diggeth many wells, for he had much cattle, both in the low country and in the plain, husbandmen and vine-dressers in the mountains, and in Carmel; for he was a lover of the ground.
26:11	And Uzziah hath a force, making war, going forth to the host, by troops, in the number of their reckoning by the hand of Jeiel the scribe and Masseiah the officer, by the hand of Hananiah `one' of the heads of the king.
26:12	The whole number of heads of the fathers of the mighty ones of valour `is' two thousand and six hundred;
26:13	and by their hand `is' the force of the host, three hundred thousand, and seven thousand, and five hundred warriors, with mighty power to give help to the king against the enemy.
26:14	And Uzziah prepareth for them, for all the host, shields, and spears, and helmets, and coats of mail, and bows, even to stones of the slings.
26:15	And he maketh in Jerusalem inventions -- a device of an inventor -- to be on the towers, and on the corners, to shoot with arrows and with great stones, and his name goeth out unto a distance, for he hath been wonderfully helped till that he hath been strong.
26:16	And at his being strong his heart hath been high unto destruction, and he trespasseth against Jehovah his God, and goeth in unto the temple of Jehovah to make perfume upon the altar of perfume.
26:17	And Azariah the priest goeth in after him, and with him priests of Jehovah eighty, sons of valour,
26:18	and they stand up against Uzziah the king, and say to him, `Not for thee, O Uzziah, to make perfume to Jehovah, but for priests, sons of Aaron, who are sanctified to make perfume; go forth from the sanctuary, for thou hast trespassed, and `it is' not to thee for honour from Jehovah God.'
26:19	And Uzziah is wroth, and in his hand `is' a censer to make perfume, and in his being wroth with the priests -- the leprosy hath risen in his forehead, before the priests, in the house of Jehovah, from beside the altar of perfume.
26:20	And Azariah the head priest looketh unto him, and all the priests, and lo, he `is' leprous in his forehead, and they hasten him thence, and also he himself hath hastened to go out, for Jehovah hath plagued him.
26:21	And Uzziah the king is a leper unto the day of his death, and inhabiteth a separate house -- a leper, for he hath been cut off from the house of Jehovah, and Jotham his son `is' over the house of the king, judging the people of the land.
26:22	And the rest of the matters of Uzziah, the first and the last, hath Isaiah son of Amoz the prophet written;
26:23	and Uzziah lieth with his fathers, and they bury him with his fathers, in the field of the burying-place that the kings have, for they said, `He `is' a leper;' and reign doth Jotham his son in his stead.
