| 34:1 | Iosia was eyght yeare olde whan he began to raygne, and he raygned in Ierusalem thyrtye and one yere. |
| 34:2 | And he dyd that which was ryght in the syght of the Lorde, and walked in the wayes of Dauid his father, and bowed nether to the ryght hand ner to the left. |
| 34:3 | In the .viij. yere of hys raygne (when he was yet a childe) he beganne to seke after the God of Dauid hys father. And in the twelueth yeare he beganne to pourge Iuda and Ierusalem from hylaulters, groues, kerued ymages, and ymages of metall: |
| 34:4 | and they brake downe the aulters of Baalim euen in hys presence: and other ymages that were in greater honoure then they, he caused to be destroyed. And the groues, kerued ymages, and ymages of metall he brake and made dust of them, and strawed it vpon the graues of them that had offered to them. |
| 34:5 | And he burnt the bones of the preastes vpon the aulters of them, and clensed Iuda and Ierusalem. |
| 34:6 | And euen so dyd he in the cyties of Manasse, Ephraim, Simeon vnto Nephthali. And in the wyldernesses of them rounde about, |
| 34:7 | he plucked a sondre the aulters and the groues, and dyd beate them and stampte them to powdre, & beate downe all the ymages thorow out all the lande of Israel: and returned to Ierusalem agayne. |
| 34:8 | In the eyghtene yere of his raygne when he had purged the lande and the temple he sent Saphan the sonne of Amaziahu, and Maasiah the gouernoure of the cytie & Ioah the sonne of Ioahaz the recorder, to repayre the house of the Lorde hys God. |
| 34:9 | And when they came to Helkiah the hye preast, they delyuered them the money that was brought in to the house of God, whych the Leuites that kepte the entryes had geathered of the hande of Manasse and Ephraim, and of all that yet remayned in Israel, and of all Iuda and BenIamin, and of the enhabiters of Ierusalem. |
| 34:10 | And they put in the handes of the worckemen, that had the ouersyght of the house of the Lorde: and they gaue it to the labourers that wrought in the house of the Lorde, to repayre and mende the house. |
| 34:11 | Even to masons and carpenters gaue they it, to get stone and tymbre, for couples and for beames of the houses, which the kynges of Iuda had destroyed: |
| 34:12 | And the men dyd the worcke faythfully. And the ouersears of them to courage them forward, were Iahath and Obadiahu Leuites of the chyldren of Merari: & Secharia & Mesullam, of the chyldren of the Cahathites, and other of the Leuytes whych all coulde skylle of instrumentes of Musicke. |
| 34:13 | And ouer the bearers of burthens and ouer all that wrought, in whatsoeuer worckemanshyppe it were, were there Scrybes, officers and porters of the Leuites. |
| 34:14 | And whan they brought out the money that was brought into the house of the lord, Helkia the preaste founde the boke of the lawe of the Lord geuen by Moses. |
| 34:15 | And Helkia answered and sayde to Saphan the scribe: I haue founde the boke of the law, in the house of the Lorde, and Helkia gaue the boke to Saphan. |
| 34:16 | And Saphan caryed the boke to the kyng, and brought the kyng worde agayne, sayenge: all that was commytted to thy seruauntes, that do they. |
| 34:17 | And they haue gathered together the money that was found in the house of the Lord, and haue delyuered it into the handes of the ouersears of the worke, and to the handes of the worckemen. |
| 34:18 | And then Saphan the scribe shewed the kyng, saying: Helkia the preast hath geuen me a boke, & Saphan redd in it before the king. |
| 34:19 | And it fortuned, that when the kyng had heard the wordes of the lawe, he tare his clothes: |
| 34:20 | and the kyng commaunded Helkia and Ahikam the sonne of Saphan, and Abidon the sonne of Micah, and Saphan the scrybe, and Asaia a seruaunt of the kynges, saying: |
| 34:21 | go & enquire of the Lorde for me and for them that are left in Israel and Iuda, concerning the wordes of the boke that is found. For great is the wrath of the Lorde that is fallen vpon vs, because oure fathers haue not kepte the worde of the Lord, to do after all that is wrytten in this boke. |
| 34:22 | And Helkia and they that the kynge had appoynted, went to Hulda a prophetisse the wyfe of Sallum the sonne of Tokhath the sonne of Hasra keper of the wardrope (for she dwelt in Ierusalem with in the second wall) and so they communed with her. |
| 34:23 | She answered them: thus sayth the Lorde God of Israel: tell ye the man that sent you to me. |
| 34:24 | Euen thus sayth the Lord: Behold, I wyll bryng euell vpon this place, & vpon the enhabiters therof (euen all the cursses that are wrytten in the boke which they haue reade before the kyng of Iuda) |
| 34:25 | because they haue forsaken me, and haue offered vnto other Gods, to angre me wt all maner worckes of theyr handes, therfore is my wrath set on fyre agaynst thys place and shall not be quenched. |
| 34:26 | And as for the kyng of Iuda whych sent you to enquire of the Lorde, so shall ye saye vnto him: thus sayth the Lord God of Israel concernyng the wordes which thou hast heard. |
| 34:27 | Because thyne hert dyd melt, & thou dydest meke thy self before God, when thou heardest his wordes agaynst this place & agaynst the enhabiters therof: & humbledest thy selfe before me, and tarest thy clothes, and weptest before me, that haue I hearde also sayth the Lord. |
| 34:28 | Behold, I wyll take the to thy fathers, and thou shalt be put in thy graue in peace, and thyne eyes shall not se all the myschefe that I wyll bryng vpon thys place, & vpon the enhabyters of the same. And they brought the kynge worde agayne. |
| 34:29 | Then the kynge sent, and gathered to gether all the elders of Iuda and Ierusalem. |
| 34:30 | And the kyng went vp into the house of the Lorde, and all the men of Iuda, and the enhabiters of Ierusalem, & the preastes & Leuites and all the people great and smalle: & the kyng dyd reade all the wordes of the boke of the couenaunt that was found in the house of the Lorde. |
| 34:31 | And the kyng stode at hys standyng, & made a couenaunt before the Lord, to folowe the Lorde, and to kepe his commaundementes, his wytnesses, and hys statutes, wyth all hys hert & wyth all his soule, & to fulfyll the wordes of the appoyntment wrytten in the sayde boke. |
| 34:32 | And he set in theyr rowme all them that were founde in Ierusalem and BenIamin, and the enhabiters of Ierusalem dyd accordyng to the couenaunt of the Lorde God of theyr fathers. |
| 34:33 | And Iosia put awaye all maner of abhominacyons out of all landes that pertayned to the chyldren of Israell, and brought in all that were found in Israel, to worshyp, and to serue the Lorde theyr God. And they turned not a syde from after the Lorde God of theyr fathers, as longe as he lyued. |

| 34:2 | And he dide that, that was riytful in the siyt of the Lord; and yede in the waies of Dauid, his fadir, and bowide not to the riyt side nether to the left side. |
| 34:3 | Forsothe in the eiytethe yeer of the rewme of his empire, whanne he was yit a child, he bigan to seke God of his fadir Dauid; and in the tweluethe yeer after that he bigan, he clenside Juda and Jerusalem fro hiy places, and wodis, and similacris, and grauun ymagis. |
| 34:4 | And thei destrieden bifor hym the auteris of Baalym, and thei destrieden the symylacris, that weren put aboue. Also he hewide doun the wodis, and grauun ymagis, and brak to smale gobetis; and scateride abrood `the smale gobetis on the birielis of hem, that weren wont to offre `to tho. |
| 34:5 | Ferthermore he brente the boonys of preestis in the auteris of idols, and he clenside Juda and Jerusalem. |
| 34:6 | But also he destriede alle idols in the citees of Manasses, and of Effraym, and of Symeon, `til to Neptalym. |
| 34:7 | And whanne he hadde scateride the auteris, and hadde al to-broke in to gobetis the wodis, and grauun ymagis, and hadde destried alle templis of ydols fro al the lond of Israel, he turnede ayen in to Jerusalem. |
| 34:8 | Therfor in the eiytenthe yeer of his rewme, whanne the lond and temple `of the Lord was clensid nowe, he sente Saphan, the sone of Helchie, and Masie, the prince of the citee, and Joa, the sone of Joachaz, chaunceler, that thei schulden reparele the hous `of his Lord God. |
| 34:9 | Whiche camen to Helchie, the grete preest; and whanne thei hadden take of hym the money, which was brouyt in to the hows of the Lord; and which monei the dekenes and porteris hadden gaderid of Manasses, and of Effraym, and of alle the residue men of Israel, and of al Juda and Beniamyn, and of the dwelleris of Jerusalem, |
| 34:10 | thei yauen it in the hondis of hem that weren souereyns of the werk men in the hows of the Lord, that thei schulden restore the temple, and reparele alle feble thingis. |
| 34:11 | And thei yauen that monei to the crafti men and masouns, for to bie stoonys hewid out of the `delues, ether quarreris, and trees to the ioynyngis of the bildyng, and to the coupling of housis, whiche the kingis of Juda hadden destried. |
| 34:12 | Whiche men diden feithfuli alle thingis. Sotheli the souereyns of worcheris weren Jabath, and Abdie, of the sones of Merari; Zacarie, and Mosallam, of the sones of Caath; whiche hastiden the werk; alle weren dekenes, kunnynge to synge with orguns. |
| 34:13 | Sotheli ouer them that baren birthuns to dyuerse vsis weren the scribis, and maistris of the dekenes, and porteris. |
| 34:14 | And whanne thei baren out the monei, that was borun in to the temple of the Lord, Helchie, `the preest, foond the book of the lawe of the Lord bi the hond of Moises. |
| 34:15 | And he seide to Saphan, the writere, Y haue founde the book of the lawe in the hows of the Lord. |
| 34:16 | And Helchie took to Saphan, and he bar in the book to the king; and telde to hym, and seide, Lo! alle thingis ben fillid, whiche thou hast youe in to the hondis of thi seruauntis. |
| 34:17 | Thei han wellyd togidere the siluere, which is foundun in the hous of the Lord; and it is youun to the souereyns of the crafti men, and makynge dyuerse werkis; |
| 34:18 | ferthermore Helchie, the preest, took to me this book. And whanne he hadde rehersid this book in the presence of the kyng, |
| 34:19 | and he hadde herd the wordis of the lawe, he to-rente hise clothis; and he comaundide to Helchie, |
| 34:20 | and to Aichan, the sone of Saphan, and to Abdon, the sone of Mycha, and to Saphan, the scryuen, and to Asaie, the seruaunt of the kyng, |
| 34:21 | and seide, Go ye, and preie the Lord for me, and for the resydue men of Israel and of Juda, on alle the wordis of this book, which is foundun. For greet veniaunce of the Lord hath droppid on vs, for oure fadris kepten not the wordis of the Lord, to do alle thingis that ben writun in this book. |
| 34:22 | Therfor Helchie yede, and thei that weren sent togidere of the king, to Olda, the prophetesse, the wijf of Sellum, sone of Thecuath, sone of Asra, kepere of clothis, which Olda dwellide in Jerusalem in the secounde warde; and thei spaken to hir the wordis, whiche we telden bifore. |
| 34:23 | And sche answeride to hem, The Lord God of Israel seith these thingis, Seie ye to the man, that sente you to me, |
| 34:24 | The Lord seith these thingis, Lo! Y schal brynge ynne yuels on this place, and on the dwelleris therof, and alle the cursyngis that ben writun in this book, which thei redden bifor the kyng of Juda. |
| 34:25 | For thei han forsake me, and han sacrified to alien goddis, for to terre me to wrathfulnesse in alle the werkis of her hondis; therfor my strong veniaunce schal droppe on this place, and it schal not be quenchid. |
| 34:26 | But speke ye thus to the kyng of Juda, that sente you to preye the Lord, The Lord God of Israel seith these thingis, For thou herdist the wordis of the book, |
| 34:27 | and thin herte is maad neisch, and thou art mekid in the siyt of the Lord of these thingis that ben seide ayens this place and the dwelleris of Jerusalem, and thou hast reuerensid my face, and hast to-rente thi clothis, and hast wepte bifor me; also Y haue herd thee, seith the Lord. |
| 34:28 | For now Y schal gadere thee to thi fadris, and thou schalt be borun in to thi sepulcre in pees; and thin iyen schulen not se al yuel, which Y schal brynge yn on this place, and on the dwelleris therof. Therfor thei telden to the king alle thingis, whiche Olda hadde seid. |
| 34:29 | And aftir that he hadde clepid togidere alle the eldere men of Juda and of Jerusalem, |
| 34:30 | he stiede in to the hows of the Lord, and togidere alle the men of Juda, `and the dwelleris of Jerusalem, preestis, and dekenes, and al the puple, fro the leeste `til to the moste; to whiche herynge in the hows of the Lord, the kyng redde alle the wordis of the book. |
| 34:31 | And he stood in his trone, and smoot a boond of pees bifor the Lord, for to `go aftir hym, and to kepe the comaundementis, and witnessyngis, and iustifiyngis of hym, in al his herte and in al his soule; and to do tho thingis that weren writun in that book, which he hadde red. |
| 34:32 | And he chargide greetli on this thing alle men, that weren foundun in Jerusalem and Beniamyn; and the dwellers of Jerusalem diden aftir the couenaunt of the Lord God of her fadris. |
| 34:33 | Therfor Josie dide awei alle abhomynaciouns fro alle the cuntreis of the sones of Israel; and he made alle men, that weren residue in Israel, to serue her Lord God; in alle the daies of his lijf thei yeden not awei fro the Lord God of her fadris. |

| 34:3 | For in the eight yeare of his reigne wha he was yet but a childe, he beganne to seke the God of his father Dauid: and in the twolueth yeare begane he to clense Iuda and Ierusale from the hye places and groues, and carued Idols, and molten ymages: |
| 34:4 | and caused the altares of Baalim to be broken downe before him, and the ymages that were theron, hewed he downe. And ye groues and carued Idols and molte ymages brake he in peces, and made them to dust, and scatred it vpon the graues of them that had offred vnto them. |
| 34:5 | And the bones of the prestes brent he vpo the altares, and so clesed he Iuda & Ierusale, |
| 34:6 | & in ye cities of Manasses, Ephraim, Simeon, and vnto Nephtali in their wyldernesses on euerysyde. |
| 34:7 | And wha he had broken downe the altares and groues, and smytten the Idols in peces, and hewed downe all the ymages in all the londe of Israel, he came agayne to Ierusalem. |
| 34:8 | In the eighteth yeare of his reigne wha he had clensed the londe and the house, he sent Saphan the sonne of Asalia and Maeseia the Shreue of the cite, and Ioath the sonne of Ioahas the Chaunceler, to repayre the house of the LORDE his God. |
| 34:9 | And they came to Hechias ye hye prest, and there was delyuered vnto them the money that was broughte vnto the house of God, which the Leuites (that kepte the threshouldes) had gathered, of Manasses, Epraim, and of all the residue in Israel, and of all Iuda & Ben Iamin, and of them that dwelt at Ierusale, |
| 34:10 | and they delyuered it vnto the hades of the worke men in the house of the LORDE, and gaue it vnto those that wrought in the house of the LORDE, where it was in decaye, yt they shulde repayre it. |
| 34:11 | And the same gaue it forth vnto the carpenters and buylders, to bye fre stone and hewen tymber for the balkes in the houses, which the kynges had destroyed. |
| 34:12 | And the men laboured faithfully in the worke. And ouer them were ordeyned, Iahath and Obadia the Leuites of the children of Merari: Zachary and Mesullam of the children of the Kahathites, to further the worke, and they were all Leuites that coulde playe vpon instrumentes. |
| 34:13 | But ouer them that bare burthens and furthured all maner of worke in all the offices, there were scrybes, officers and dore kepers of the Leuites. |
| 34:14 | And wha they toke out the money that was broughte vnto ye house of the LORDE, Helchias the prest founde the boke of the lawe of the LORDE geuen by Moses. |
| 34:15 | And Helchias answered, and saide vnto Saphan the Scrybe: I haue founde the boke of the lawe in ye house of ye LORDE. And Helchias delyuered the boke vnto Saphan. |
| 34:16 | And Saphan bare it vnto the kynge, and broughte ye kynge worde agayne, and sayde: All that was geuen vnder the handes of thy seruauntes, that make they: |
| 34:17 | and ye money that was founde in ye house of the LORDE, haue they gathered together, and delyuered it vnto ye officers, and to the workmen. |
| 34:18 | And Saphan the Scrybe tolde the kynge, and sayde: Helchias the prest hath delyuered me a boke. And Saphan red therin before the kynge. |
| 34:19 | And whan the kynge herde the wordes of the lawe, he rente his clothes. |
| 34:20 | And the kynge commaunded Helchias and Ahicam the sonne of Saphan, and Abdon the sonne of Micha, and Saphan the Scrybe, and Asaia the kynges seruaunt, and sayde: |
| 34:21 | Go youre waye, axe councell at the LORDE for me and for the remnaunt in Israel, and for Iuda, concernynge these wordes of the boke that is founde. For greate is the indignacion of the LORDE that is gone forth ouer vs, because oure fathers haue not kepte the worde of the LORDE, to do acordinge as it is wrytten in this boke. |
| 34:22 | Then wete Helchias (with the other that were sent from the kynge) vnto the prophetisse Hulda the wife of Sallum the Sonne of Thecoath the sonne of Hasra the keper of the clothes, which dwelt at Ierusalem in the secode parte, and they spake this vnto her. |
| 34:23 | And she sayde vnto them: Thus sayeth the LORDE God of Israel: Tell the man yt sent you vnto me: |
| 34:24 | Thus sayeth ye LORDE: Beholde, I wil brynge plages vpo this place and the inhabiters therof, eue all the curses which are wrytten in the boke, that was red before the kynge of Iuda: |
| 34:25 | because they haue forsake me, and bret incese vnto other goddes, to prouoke me with all the workes of their handes. And my indignacion shal go forth vpon this cite, and shal not be quenched. |
| 34:26 | And after this maner shal ye saye vnto the kynge of Iuda, that sent you to axe councell at the LORDE: Thus sayeth ye LORDE God of Israel concernynge the wordes that thou hast herde: |
| 34:27 | Because thine hert is moued, and because thou hast humbled thy selfe in the sighte of God, whan thou herdest his wordes agaynst this place and the inhabiters therof, and hast submytted thy selfe before me, and rent thy clothes, and wepte before me, therfore haue I herde the, sayeth ye LORDE. |
| 34:28 | Beholde, I wil gather the vnto thy fathers, and thou shalt be layed in thy graue with peace, so yt thine eyes shal not se all the euell that I wyl brynge ouer this place, and the indwellers therof. And they broughte the kynge worde agayne. |
| 34:29 | Then sent ye kynge, and caused all the Elders in Iuda and Ierusalem to come together. |
| 34:30 | And the kynge wente vp in to the house of the LORDE, and all the men of Iuda and inhabiters of Ierusale, the prestes, the Leuites, and all the people both small and greate: and all the wordes in the boke of the couenaunt that was founde in the house of the LORDE, were red in their eares. |
| 34:31 | And ye kynge stode in his place, and made a couenaunt before the LORDE, that they shulde walke after the LORDE, to kepe his comaundementes, his testimonies, and his statutes with all their hert and with all their soule, to do accordinge vnto all the wordes of the couenaunt that are wrytten in this boke. |
| 34:32 | And there stode all they that were founde at Ierusalem and in Ben Iamin. And ye inhabiters of Ierusalem dyd acordinge to the couenaunt of God the God of their fathers. |
| 34:33 | And Iosias put awaye all abhominacions out of all the londes that were the children of Israels, and caused all them that were founde in Israel, to serue the LORDE their God. As longe as Iosias lyued, departed they not from the LORDE the God of their fathers. |
