Nehemiah - Chapter: 13

>
13:1And that day dyd they read in the booke of Moyses in the audience of the people, and therein was founde written, that the Ammonites, & Moabites shoulde neuer come into the congregation of God
13:2Because they met not the children of Israel with bread and water, but hired Balaam against them that he should curse them: and our God turned the curse into a blessing
13:3Nowe when they had hearde the law, they separated from Israel euery one that had mixt him selfe therin
13:4And before this had the priest Eliasib the ouersight of the treasurie of the house of our God, and he was kynsman vnto Tobia
13:5And had made hym a great chamber, and there had they afore time layed the offringes, frankencence, vessels, and the tythes of corne, wine, and oyle according to the commaundementes geuen to the Leuites, singers and porters, and the heaue offringes of the priestes
13:6But in all this time was not I at Hierusalem: for in the two and thirtie yere of Artaxerxes king of Babylon, came I vnto the king, & after certayne dayes obtayned I licence of the king to come to Hierusalem
13:7And I gat knowledge of the euyll that Eliasib dyd for Tobia, in that he had made hym a chamber in the court of the house of God
13:8And it greeued me sore: therefore I cast foorth all the vessels of the house of Tobia out of the chamber
13:9And commaunded them to clense the chambers, and thyther brought I againe the vessels of the house of God, with the meate offring, and the incense
13:10And I perceaued that the portions of the Leuites had not ben geuen them, and that euery one was fled to his land, euen the Leuites and singers that executed the worke
13:11Then reproued I the rulers, and sayd: Why is the house of God forsaken? And I gathered them together, and set them in their place
13:12Then brought all Iuda the tythes of corne, and wine, and oyle, vnto the treasure
13:13And I made treasures ouer the treasure, euen Selemiah the priest, and Zadoc the scribe, and of the Leuites, Phadaia: and vnder their hand was Hanan the sonne of Zacur, the sonne of Mathania: for they were counted faythful, and their office was to distribute the portions vnto their brethren
13:14Thinke vpon me O my God herein, and wype not out my mercie that I haue shewed on the house of my God, and on the offices therof
13:15And the same time sawe I in Iuda some treading wine presses on the Sabbath, and bringing in sheues, and which laded asses also with wine, grapes, and figges, and all burthens, and brought them into Hierusalem vpon the Sabbath day: And I rebuked them earnestly the same day that they solde the vitayles
13:16There dwelt men of Tyre also therein, which brought fish and all maner of ware, and solde on the Sabbath vnto the childre of Iuda, euen in Hierusalem
13:17Then reproued I the rulers in Iuda, & sayd vnto them: What euyl thing is this that ye do, & breake the Sabbath day
13:18Dyd not your fathers euen thus, and our God brought all this plague vpon vs, and vpon this citie? And ye make the wrath more yet vpon Israel, in that ye breake the Sabbath
13:19And when the portes of Hierusalem began to be darke in the euening before the Sabbath, I commaunded to shut the gates, and charged that they should not be opened till after the Sabbath: and some of my seruauntes set I at the gates, that there shoulde no burthen be brought in on the Sabbath day
13:20Then remayned the chapmen and marchauntes once or twyse ouer night without Hierusalem with all maner of wares
13:21Then reproued I them sore, and sayde vnto them: Why tary ye all night about the wall? If ye do it once againe, I will lay handes vpon you: From that time foorth came they no more on the Sabbath
13:22And I said vnto the Leuites, that they should clense them selues, and that they shoulde come and kepe the gates, to halowe the Sabboth day: Thinke vpon me O my God concerning this also, and spare me, according to thy great mercie
13:23In those dayes also sawe I Iewes that maried wyues of Asdod, of Ammon, and of Moab
13:24And their children spake halfe in the speach of Asdod, and could not speake in the Iewes language, but according to the language of the one people and of the other people
13:25Then I reproued them, and cursed them, and smote certayne men of them, and made them bare: and toke an oth of them by God, Ye shall not geue your daughters vnto their sonnes, neither shall ye take their daughters vnto your sonnes, or for your selues
13:26Dyd not Solomon the king of Israel sinne by these thinges? and yet among many heathen was there no king like him, which was deare vnto his God, & God made hym king ouer all Israel: and yet neuerthelesse outlandishe women caused him to sinne
13:27Shall we then obey vnto you to do al this great euyll, and to transgresse against our God, and marie straunge wyues
13:28And one of the children of Iehoiada the sonne of Eliasib the hye priest, was the sonne in law of Sanaballat the Horonite: but I chased him from me
13:29O my God, thinke thou vpon them that defile the presthod, and the couenaunt of the presthod and of the Leuites
13:30Thus clensed I them from all such as were outlandishe, and appoynted the courses of the priestes and Leuites, euery one in his office
13:31And to offer the wood at times appoynted, and the first fruites: Thinke thou vpon me O my God for the best

13:1And on that day did they reade in the booke of Moses, in the audience of the people, and it was found written therein, that the Ammonite, and the Moabite should not enter into the Congregation of God,
13:2Because they met not the children of Israel with bread and with water, but hired Balaam against them, that he should curse them: and our God turned the curse into a blessing.
13:3Now when they had heard the Lawe, they separated from Israel all those that were mixed.
13:4And before this had the Priest Eliashib the ouersight of the chamber of the house of our God, being kinsman to Tobiah:
13:5And he had made him a great chamber and there had they aforetime layde the offringes, the incense, and the vessels, and the tithes of corne, of wine, and of oyle (appointed for the Leuites, and the singers, and the porters) and the offringes of the Priests.
13:6But in all this time was not I in Ierusalem: for in the two and thirtieth yere of Artahshashte King of Babel, came I vnto the King, and after certaine dayes I obteined of the King.
13:7And when I was come to Ierusalem, I vnderstood the euil that Eliashib had done for Tobiah, in that hee had made him a chamber in the court of the house of God,
13:8And it grieued me sore: therefore I cast forth all the vessels of the house of Tobiah out of the chamber.
13:9And I commanded them to clense ye chambers: and thither brought I againe the vessels of the house of God with the meate offring and the incense.
13:10And I perceiued that the portions of the Leuites had not bene giuen, and that euery one was fled to his lande, euen the Leuites and singers that executed the worke.
13:11Then reproued I the rulers and sayd, Why is the house of God forsaken? And I assembled them, and set them in their place.
13:12Then brought all Iudah the tithes of corne and of wine, and of oyle vnto the treasures.
13:13And I made treasurers ouer the treasures, Shelemiah the Priest, and Zadok the scribe, and of the Leuites, Pedaiah, and vnder their hande Hanan the sonne of Zaccur the sonne of Mattaniah: for they were counted faithfull, and their office was to distribute vnto their brethren.
13:14Remember me, O my God, herein, and wipe not out my kindenes that I haue shewed on the house of my God, and on the offices thereof.
13:15In those dayes saw I in Iudah them, that trode wine presses on ye Sabbath, and that brought in sheaues, and which laded asses also with wine, grapes, and figges, and all burdens, and brought them into Ierusalem vpon the Sabbath day: and I protested to them in the day that they sold vitailes.
13:16There dwelt men of Tyrus also therein, which brought fish and all wares, and solde on the Sabbath vnto the children of Iudah euen in Ierusalem.
13:17Then reprooued I the rulers of Iudah, and sayd vnto them, What euil thing is this that yee doe, and breake the Sabbath day?
13:18Did not your fathers thus, and our God brought all this plague vpon vs, and vpon this citie? yet yee increase the wrath vpon Israel, in breaking the Sabbath.
13:19And when the gates of Ierusalem beganne to be darke before the Sabbath, I commaded to shut the gates, and charged, that they should not be opened til after the Sabbath, and some of my seruants set I at the gates, that there shoulde no burden be brought in on the Sabbath day.
13:20So the chapmen and marchants of al marchandise remained once or twise all night without Ierusalem.
13:21And I protested among them, and said vnto them, Why tary ye all night about the wall? If ye do it once againe, I will lay hands vpon you. from that time came they no more on the Sabbath.
13:22And I sayde vnto the Leuites, that they should clense themselues, and that they shoulde come and keepe the gates, to sanctifie the Sabbath day. Remember me, O my God, concerning this, and pardon me according to thy great mercy.
13:23In those dayes also I saw Iewes that married wiues of Ashdod, of Ammon, and of Moab.
13:24And their children spake halfe in ye speach of Ashdod, and could not speake in the Iewes language, and according to the language of the one people, and of the other people.
13:25Then I reprooued them, and cursed them, and smote certaine of them, and pulled off their heare, and tooke an othe of them by God, Yee shall not giue your daughters vnto their sonnes, neither shall ye take of their daughters vnto your sonnes, nor for your selues.
13:26Did not Salomon the king of Israel sinne by these thinges? yet among many nations was there no King like him: for he was beloued of his God, and God had made him King ouer Israel: yet strange women caused him to sinne.
13:27Shall wee then obey vnto you, to doe all this great euil, and to transgresse against our God, euen to marry strange wiues?
13:28And one of the sonnes of Ioiada the sonne of Eliashib the hie Priest was the sonne in law of Sanballat the Horonite: but I chased him from me.
13:29Remember them, O my God, that defile the Priesthoode, and the couenant of the Priesthoode, and of the Leuites.
13:30Then cleansed I them from all strangers, and appoynted the wardes of the Priestes and of the Leuites, euery one in his office,
13:31And for the offring of the wood at times appoynted, and for the first fruites. Remember me, O my God, in goodnes.

13:1And that daye dyd they reade in the boke of Moses, & the people herkened therto, & there was found writen therin, that the Ammonites & Moabites shulde neuer come into the congregacion of God,
13:2because they mett not the children of Israel wt bread and water, but hyred Balaam agaynst them, that he shuld curse them: and oure God turned the curse into a blessing.
13:3Now when they herde the lawe, it fortuned, that they separated from Israell euery one that had myxte hym selfe therin
13:4And before this had the preast Eliasib the ouer syght of the treasury of the house of oure God, & he was kynsman vnto Tobia:
13:5& had made him a great chambre, & there had they afore tyme layed the offeringes, frankencense, vessell, & the tythes of corne, and wyne and oyle (accordyng to the commaundement geuen to the Leuites, syngers and porters) and the heueofferynges of the preastes:
13:6But in all this tyme was not I at Ierusalem: for in the two & thyrtie yeare of Artaxerses kyng of Babylon, came I vnto the kyng, and after certayne dayes optayned I lycence of the kyng
13:7to come to Ierusalem. And I gat knowlege of the euell that Eliasib dyd vnto Tobia, in that he had made him a chambre in the court of the house of God,
13:8and it greued me sore, & I cast forth all the vessels of the house of Tobia out of the chambre,
13:9and commaunded them to clense the chambres. And thither brought I agayne the vessels of the house of God, with the meatoffering, and the incense.
13:10And I perceaued, that the porcions of the Leuites were not geuen them, and that euery one fled to his land, euen the Leuites and syngers that executed the worke.
13:11Then reproued I the rulers, & sayd? why is the house of God forsaken? And I gathered them together, & set them in their place.
13:12Then brought all Iuda the tythes of corne, & wyne and oyle vnto the treasure.
13:13And I made treasurers ouer the treasure, euen Selemiah the preast, & Zadoc the scrybe, and of the Leuites, Phadaia, & vnder their hand was Hanan the sonne of Zacur the sonne of Mathania: for they were counted faythfull, and their office was to distribute the porcions vnto their brethren.
13:14Thyncke vpon me O my God here in, and wipe not out my mercy that I haue shewed on the house of my God, and on the offices therof.
13:15At the same tyme sawe I some tredynge wyne presses on the Saboth, & bryngyng in shefes, & asses laden wt wyne, grapes, figges & brynging all maner of burthens vnto Ierusalem, vpon the Sabaoth daye. And I rebuked them earnestly the same daye that they sold the vitayles.
13:16There dwelt men of Tyre also therin, which brought fysh and all maner of ware, & solde on the Saboth vnto the children of Iuda in Ierusalem.
13:17Then reproued I the rulers in Iuda, & sayde vnto them: what euell thyng is this that ye do, & breake the Saboth daye?
13:18Dyd not youre fathers euen thus, & our God brought all thys plage vpon vs & vpon this cytie? And ye make the wrath more yet vpon Israel, in that ye breake the Saboth.
13:19And it fortuned, that when the portes of Ierusalem beganne to be darke in the euenyng before the Saboth, I commaunded to shutt the gates, and charged, that they shuld not be opened tyll after the Saboth & some of my seruauntes set I at the gates, that there shulde no burthen be brought in on the Saboth daye.
13:20Then remayned the chapmen & marchauntes once or twyce ouer nyght without Ierusalem wyth all maner of wares.
13:21Then reproued I them sore, and sayde vnto them: why tary ye all nyght about the wall? If ye do it once agayne, I wyll laye handes vpon you. From that tyme forth came they nomore on the Saboth.
13:22And I sayde vnto the Leuites that they shulde clense them selues, and that they shulde come and kepe the gates, to halowe the Saboth daye. Thynke vpon me (O my God) concernyng this also, & spare me, accordyng to thy great mercy.
13:23And at the same tyme sawe I Iewes, that maried wyues of Asdod, of Ammon and of Moab,
13:24& their childen spake halfe in the speach of Asdod, & coulde not speake in the Iewes language, but by the tong myght a man perceaue euery people.
13:25Then I reproued them, & cursed them, & smote certayne men of them, & made them bare, and toke an ooth of them by God: Ye shal not geue your daughters vnto their sonnes, nether shall ye take their daughters vnto youre sonnes, or for youre selues.
13:26Dyd not Salomon the kyng of Israel synne for soch? and yet among many Heythen was there no kynge lyke him, whych was deare vnto his God, & God made him kynge ouer all Israel, & yet neuertheles, outlandysh wemen caused him to synne?
13:27Shall we then obeye vnto you, to do all this great euell, & to transgresse agaynst oure God, and marye straunge wyues?
13:28And one of the children of Iehoiada the sonne of Eliasib the hye preast, had made a contracte with Sanabalat the Horonite: but I chaced him from me.
13:29(O my God) thynke thou vpon them that defyle the presthode, & the couenaunt of the presthode & of the Leuites.
13:30Thus clensed I them from all soch as were outlandish, and appoynted the courses of the preastes & Leuites, euery one in his office,
13:31& to offre the wod at tymes appoynted, and the fyrst frutes. Thinke thou vpon me (O my God) for the best.
