9:1	In the twelueth moneth, that is the moneth Adar, vpon the thirtenth daye of the same, whan the kynges word and commaundement shulde be done, euen vpon the same daye that the enemyes shulde haue destroyed the Iewes to haue oppressed them, it turned contrary wyse, euen that the Iewes shulde subdue their enemyes.
9:2	For then gathered the Iewes together in their cyties wythin all the landes of kynge Ahasuerus, to laye hand on soch as wolde do them euell, and no man coulde withstand them: for the feare of them was come ouer all people.
9:3	And all the rulers in the landes, and princes & Debites, & officers of the kyng, promoted the Iewes, for the feare of Mardocheus came vpon them.
9:4	For Mardocheus was greate in the kynges house, and the reporte of him was noysed in all landes, how he increased and grewe.
9:5	Thus the Iewes smote all theyr enemyes with a sore slaughter, and slewe & destroyed, and dyd after their wyll vnto soche as were their aduersaries.
9:6	And at Susan the chefe cytie slew the Iewes, and destroyed fyue hundreth men:
9:7	& slewe Pharsandatha, Dalphou Asphatha,
9:8	Phoratha, Adalia, Aridatha,
9:9	Pharmastha, Arisai, Aridai, and Uaizatha,
9:10	the ten sonnes of Haman the sonne of Hamadata the enemye of the Iewes: but on his goodes they layed no handes.
9:11	At the same tyme was the kyng certyfied of the nombre of those that were slayne in the cyte of Susan.
9:12	And the kyng sayde vnto quene Esther. The Iewes haue slayne and destroyed fyue hundreth men in the cytie of Susan, & the ten sonnes, of Haman. What haue they done thynkest thou in the other landes of the kynge? And what is thy peticion, that it maye be geuen the? or what requirest thou more to be done?
9:13	Esther answered: If it please the kynge, let him suffre the Iewes tomorow also to do accordynge vnto this dayes commaundement, that they maye hang Hamans ten sonnes vpon the tre.
9:14	And the kynge charged to do so, and the commaundement was deuised at Susan, & they hanged Hamans ten sonnes.
9:15	For the Iewes that were in Susan gathered them selues together, vpon the fourtenth daye of the moneth Adar, & slew thre hundreth men at Susan, but on their goodes they layed no handes.
9:16	As for the other Iewes that were in the kynges landes, they came together, and stode for their lyues, that they myght haue rest from their enemies: & slew of their enemyes fyue and seuentye thousand, howbeit, they layed no handes on their goodes.
9:17	This they dyd on the thirtenth daye of the moneth Adar, and on the fourtenth daye of the same moneth rested they, which daye they helde wt feastinge and gladnesse.
9:18	But the Iewes that were at Susan, came together both on the thyrtenth daye and on the fourtenth, and on the fyftenth daye of the same they rested, and helde that daye with feastyng and gladnes.
9:19	And therfore the Iewes that dwelt in the villages and vnwalled townes, helde the fourtenth daye of the moneth Adar, with gladnes and feastynge, and kepte holy daye, and euery one sent gyftes vnto another.
9:20	And Mardocheus wrote these actes, and sent the writynges vnto all the Iewes that were in all the landes of kynge Ahasuerus, both nye & farre
9:21	that they shuld make a law among them selues & holde the fourtenth and fiftenth daye of the moneth Adar,
9:22	as the dayes wherin the Iewes came to rest from their enemyes, and as a moneth wherin their payne was turned to ioye, & their sorowe into a holy daye, & that in those dayes they shuld make feastes and gladnes, & one to sende gyftes vnto another, & to distribute vnto the poore.
9:23	And the Iewes were content with it that they had begonne to do, and that Mardocheus wrote vnto them:
9:24	how that Haman the sonne of Hamadatha all the Iewes enemy, had deuised against the Iewes, how he might destroye them and caused to cast Phur (that is a Lot) for to put them in feare, & to bryng them to naught:
9:25	& how Hester went, and spake to the kynge, that thorowe letters his wicked deuyce (which he ymagined agaynst the Iewes) myght be turned vpon his awne heed, & how hee & his sonnes were hanged on the tre.
9:26	For the which cause they called this daye Phurim, because of the name of the lott, and because of all the wordes of this writing: & what they them selues had sene, & what had happened vnto them.
9:27	And the Iewes set it vp, and toke it vpon them and their sede, and vpon all soch as ioyned them selues vnto them, that they wolde not misse but obserue these two dayes yerely, accordynge as they were wrytten and appoynted,
9:28	how that these dayes are not to be forgotten, but to be kepte of childers children among all kynredes in all landes and cyties. They are the dayes of Phurim, which are not to be ouerslipte among the Iewes, & the memoriall of them ought not to perisshe from their sede.
9:29	And quene Esther the daughter of Abihail and Mardocheus the Iew wrote wt all auctorite (to confirme this seconde writting of Phurim)
9:30	and sent the letters vnto all the Iewes in the hundreth & seuen and twentye landes of the empyre of Ahasuerus, wt frendly and faythfull wordes,
9:31	to confirme these dayes of Phurim, in their tyme appoynted, accordynge as Mardocheus the Iew & Esther the quene had appoynted them. And they bound their soule and their sede to fasting, & prayer.
9:32	And Esther stablisshed the wordes of these lottes, as it is written in the boke.


9:1	Therfor in the thrittenthe dai of the tweluethe monethe, which we seiden now bifore to be clepid Adar, whanne sleyng was maad redi to alle Jewis, and her enemyes settiden tresoun to blood, ayenward Jewes bigunnen to be the hiyere, and to venge hem of aduersaries.
9:2	And thei weren gaderid togidere bi alle citees, castels, and places, to stretche forth hond ayens her enemyes and pursueris; and no man was hardi to ayenstonde, for the drede of her gretnesse hadde persid alle puplis.
9:3	For whi bothe the iugis, duykis, and procuratouris of prouynces, and ech dignyte, that weren souereyns of alle places and werkis, enhaunsiden Jewis, for the drede of Mardochee,
9:4	whom thei knewen to be prince of the paleis, and to mow do ful myche; and the fame of his name encreeside ech dai, and flei bi the mouthis of alle men.
9:5	Therfor the Jewis smytiden her enemyes with greet veniaunce, and killiden hem, and yeldiden to tho enemyes that, that thei hadden maad redi to do to `the Jewis,
9:6	in so myche, that also in Susa thei killiden fyue hundrid men, with out the ten sones of Aaman of Agag, the enemye of Jewis, of whiche these ben the names;
9:7	Phasandatha, Delphon, and Esphata,
9:8	and Phorata, and Adalia, and Aridatha,
9:9	and Ephermesta, and Arisai, and Aridai, and Vaizatha.
9:10	And whanne the Jewis hadden slayn hem, thei nolden take preies of the catels of hem.
9:11	And anoon the noumbre of hem, that weren slayn in Susa, was teld to the kyng.
9:12	Which seide to the queen, Jewis han slayn fyue hundrid men in the citee of Susa, and othere ten sones of Aaman; hou grete sleyng gessist thou, that thei haunten in alle prouynces? what axist thou more? and what wolt thou, that Y comaunde to be doon?
9:13	To whom sche answeride, If it plesith the kyng, power be youun to the Jewis, that as thei han do to dai in Susa, so do thei also to morewe, and that the ten sones of Aaman be hangid vp in iebatis.
9:14	And the kyng comaundide, that it schulde be doon so; and anoon the comaundement hangide in Susa, and the ten sones of Aaman weren hangid.
9:15	Therfor whanne the Jewis weren gaderid togidere, in the fourtenthe dai of the monethe Adar, thre hundrid men weren slayn in Susa, and the Jewis token not awei the catel of tho men.
9:16	But also bi alle the prouynces, that weren suget to the lordschip of the kyng, Jewis stoden for her lyues, whanne her enemyes and pursueris weren slayn, in so myche, that fyue and seuenti thousynde of slayn men `weren fillid, and no man touchide ony thing of the catelis of hem.
9:17	Forsothe the thrittenthe dai of the monethe Adar was o dai of sleyng at alle Jewis, and in the fourtenthe dai thei ceessiden to sle; which thei ordeyneden to be solempne, that therynne in ech tyme aftirward thei schulden yyue tent to metis, to ioye, and to feestis.
9:18	And thei, that hauntiden sleyng in the citee of Susa, `lyueden in sleyng in the thrittenthe and fourtenthe dai of the same monethe. But in the fiftenthe dai thei ceessiden to sle; and therfor thei ordeyneden the same dai solempne of feestis and of gladnesse.
9:19	Forsothe these Jewis, that dwelliden in borow townes not wallid and vilagis, demeden the fourtenthe dai of the monethe Adar of feestis, and of ioie, so that thei be ioiful therynne, and sende ech to other partis of feestis and of metis.
9:20	Therfor Mardochee wroot alle these thingis, and sente these thingis comprehendid bi lettris to the Jewis, that dwelliden in alle prouynces of the kyng, as wel to Jewis set nyy as fer,
9:21	that thei schulden resseyue the fourtenthe and the fiftenthe dai of the monethe Adar `for feestis, and euer whanne the yeer turneth ayen, `thei schulden halowe with solempne onour;
9:22	for in tho daies the Jewis vengiden hem silf of her enemyes, and morenyng and sorewe weren turned in to gladnesse and ioie; and these daies schulden be daies of feestis, and of gladnesse, and `that thei schulden sende ech to other partis of metis, and `yyue litle yiftis to pore men.
9:23	Forsothe the Jewis resseyueden in to solempne custom alle thingis, whiche thei bigunnen to do in that tyme, and whiche thingis Mardochee hadde comaundid bi lettris to be doon.
9:24	Sotheli Aaman, the sone of Amadathi, of the kynrede of Agag, the enemy and aduersarie of Jewis, thouyte yuel ayens hem, to sle hem and to do awei, and he sente phur, which is interpretid in oure langage `in to lot.
9:25	And afterward Hester entride to the kyng, and bisouyte, that `hise enforsyngis schulden be maad voide bi the lettris of the kyng, and that the yuel, which he hadde thouyt ayenus the Jewis, schulde turne ayen in to his heed. `Forsothe thei hangiden on the cros `bothe hym and hise sones.
9:26	And fro that tyme these daies weren clepid `Phurym, that is, of lottis, for `phur, that is, lot, was sent in to a vessel; and the Jewis resseyueden on hem silf, and on her seed, and on alle men that wolden be couplid to her religioun, alle thingis that weren doon, and ben conteyned in the volym of the pistle, `that is, of this book,
9:27	and whiche thingis thei suffriden, and whiche thingis weren chaungid aftirward, that it be not leueful to ony man to passe with out solempnyte these `daies, which the scripture witnessith, and certeyn tymes axen, while the yeeris comen contynuely oon aftir an other.
9:28	These ben the daies, whiche neuer ony foryetyng schal do awei, and bi alle generaciouns alle prouynces, that ben in al the world, schulen halewe; nether `ony citee is, in which the daies of Phurym, that is, of lottis, schulen not be kept of Jewis, and of the generacioun of hem, which is bounden to these cerymonyes.
9:29	And Hester, the queen, the douyter of Abiahel, and Mardochee, the Jew, writiden also the secounde pistle, that this solempne dai schulde be halewid aftirward with al bisynesse.
9:30	And thei senten to tho Jewis, that dwelliden in an hundrid and seuene and twenti prouynces of kyng Assuerus, that thei schulden haue pees, and resseyue the trewthe,
9:31	and kepe the daies of lottis, and halewe with ioie in her tyme, as Mardochee and Hester hadden ordeyned; and thei resseiueden the fastyngis, and the cries, and the daies of lottis, to be kept of hem silf and of her seed,
9:32	and `that thei schulden resseyue among hooli bookis alle thingis that ben conteyned in the storie of this book, which is clepid Hester.

9:13	Hester sayde: Yf it please the kynge, let him suffre the Iewes tomorow also to do acordinge vnto this dayes commaundement, that they maye hange Amans ten sonnes vpo ye tre.
9:14	And the kynge charged to do so, and the commaundement was deuysed at Susan, & Amans ten sonnes were hanged.
9:15	And the Iewes gathered the selues together at Susan, vpon the fourtenth daye of the moneth Adar, and slewe thre hundreth men at Susan, but on their goodes they laied no hades.
9:16	As for the other Iewes in the kyuges lodes, they came together, & stode for their lyues, & gatt rest fro their enemies: and slewe of their enemies fyue and seuentye thousande, howbeit they layed no hondes on their goodes.
9:17	This was done on the thirteth daie of the moneth Adar, and on the fourtenth daye of the same moneth rested they, which (daye) they ordeyned to be a daye of feastinge and gladnesse.
9:18	But the Iewes at Susan were come together both on the thyrtenth daye and on the fourtenth, and on the fyftenth daye they rested, and the same daye ordeyned they to be a daye of feastinge & gladnes.
9:19	Therfore the Iewes that dwelt in the vyllages and vnwalled townes, ordeyned ye fourtenth daye of the moneth Adar, to be a daye of feastinge and gladnes, and one sent giftes vnto another.
9:20	And Mardocheus wrote these actes, and sent the writinges vnto all the Iewes yt were in all ye londes of kynge Ahasuerus, both nye and farre,
9:21	that they shulde yearly receaue and holde the fourtenth and fiftenth daie of the moneth Adar,
9:22	as the daies wherin ye Iewes came to rest from their enemies, & as a moneth wherin their payne was turned to ioye, and their sorowe in to prosperite: that they shulde obserue the same as dayes of wealth and gladnes, and one to sende giftes vnto another, & to distribute vnto the poore.
9:23	And the Iewes receaued it that they had begonne to do, and that Mardocheus wrote vnto them:
9:24	how that Aman the sonne of Amadathai all ye Iewes enemye, had deuysed to destroye all the Iewes, and caused the lot to be cast for to put them in feare, and to brynge them to naughte:
9:25	and how Hester wente and spake to the kynge, that thorow letters his wicked deuyce (which he ymagyned agaynst the Iewes) might be turned vpon his awne heade, and how he and his sonnes were hanged on the tre.
