>
15:1Forsothe Eliphat Themanytes answeride, and seide,
15:2Whether a wise man schal answere, as spekynge ayens the wynd, and schal fille his stomac with brennyng, `that is, ire?
15:3For thou repreuest hym bi wordis, which is not lijk thee, and thou spekist that, that spedith not to thee.
15:4As myche as is in thee, thou hast avoidid drede; and thou hast take awey preyeris bifor God.
15:5For wickidnesse hath tauyt thi mouth, and thou suest the tunge of blasfemeris.
15:6Thi tunge, and not Y, schal condempne thee, and thi lippis schulen answere thee.
15:7Whether thou art borun the firste man, and art formed bifor alle little hillis?
15:8Whether thou herdist the counsel of God, and his wisdom is lower than thou?
15:9What thing knowist thou, whiche we knowen not? What thing vndurstondist thou, whiche we witen not?
15:10Bothe wise men and elde, myche eldre than thi fadris, ben among vs.
15:11Whether it is greet, that God coumforte thee? But thi schrewid wordis forbeden this.
15:12What reisith thin herte thee, and thou as thenkynge grete thingis hast iyen astonyed?
15:13What bolneth thi spirit ayens God, that thou brynge forth of thi mouth siche wordis?
15:14What is a man, that he be with out wem, and that he borun of a womman appere iust?
15:15Lo! noon among hise seyntis is vnchaungable, and heuenes ben not cleene in his siyt.
15:16How myche more a man abhomynable and vnprofitable, that drynkith wickidnesse as water?
15:17I schal schewe to thee, here thou me; Y schal telle to thee that, that Y siy.
15:18Wise men knoulechen, and hiden not her fadris.
15:19To whiche aloone the erthe is youun, and an alien schal not passe bi hem.
15:20A wickid man is proud in alle hise daies; and the noumbre of hise yeeris and of his tirauntrie is vncerteyn.
15:21The sown of drede is euere in hise eeris, and whanne pees is, he supposith euere tresouns.
15:22He bileueth not that he may turne ayen fro derknessis to liyt; and biholdith aboute on ech side a swerd.
15:23Whanne he stirith hym to seke breed, he woot, that the dai of derknessis is maad redi in his hond.
15:24Tribulacioun schal make hym aferd, and angwisch schal cumpas hym, as a kyng which is maad redi to batel.
15:25For he helde forth his hond ayens God, and he was maad strong ayens Almyyti God.
15:26He ran with neck reisid ayens God, and he was armed with fat nol.
15:27Fatnesse, that is, pride `comyng forth of temporal aboundaunce, hilide his face, `that is, the knowyng of vndurstondyng, and outward fatnesse hangith doun of his sidis.
15:28He schal dwelle in desolat citees, and in deseert, `ethir forsakun, housis, that ben turned in to biriels.
15:29He schal not be maad riche, nether his catel schal dwelle stidefastli; nether he schal sende his roote in the erthe,
15:30nether he schal go awei fro derknessis. Flawme schal make drie hise braunchis, and he schal be takun a wey bi the spirit of his mouth.
15:31Bileue he not veynli disseyued bi errour, that he schal be ayenbouyt bi ony prijs.
15:32Bifor that hise daies ben fillid, he schal perische, and hise hondis schulen wexe drye;
15:33he schal be hirt as a vyne in the firste flour of his grape, and as an olyue tre castinge awei his flour.
15:34For the gaderyng togidere of an ipocrite is bareyn, and fier schal deuoure the tabernaclis of hem, that taken yiftis wilfuli.
15:35He conseyuede sorewe, and childide wickidnesse, and his wombe makith redi tretcheries.

15:1Then answered Eliphaz the Temanite, and saide,
15:2Shal a wise man speake words of ye winde, and fill his bellie with the East winde?
15:3Shall he dispute with wordes not comely? or with talke that is not profitable?
15:4Surely thou hast cast off feare, and restrainest prayer before God.
15:5For thy mouth declareth thine iniquitie, seeing thou hast chosen ye tongue of the crafty.
15:6Thine owne mouth condemneth thee, and not I, and thy lippes testifie against thee.
15:7Art thou the first man, that was borne? and wast thou made before the hils?
15:8Hast thou heard the secret counsell of God, and doest thou restraine wisedome to thee?
15:9What knowest thou that we knowe not? and vnderstandest that is not in vs?
15:10With vs are both auncient and very aged men, farre older then thy father.
15:11Seeme the consolations of God small vnto thee? is this thing strange vnto thee?
15:12Why doeth thine heart take thee away, and what doe thine eyes meane,
15:13That thou answerest to God at thy pleasure, and bringest such wordes out of thy mouth?
15:14What is man, that he should be cleane? and he that is borne of woman, that he shoulde be iust?
15:15Beholde, he founde no stedfastnesse in his Saintes: yea, the heauens are not cleane in his sight.
15:16How much more is man abominable, and filthie, which drinketh iniquitie like water?
15:17I will tell thee: heare me, and I will declare that which I haue seene:
15:18Which wise men haue tolde, as they haue heard of their fathers, and haue not kept it secret:
15:19To whome alone the land was giuen and no stranger passed through them.
15:20The wicked man is continually as one that traueileth of childe, and the nomber of yeeres is hid from the tyrant.
15:21A sounde of feare is in his eares, and in his prosperitie the destroyer shall come vpon him.
15:22He beleeueth not to returne out of darknesse: for he seeth the sworde before him.
15:23He wandreth to and from for bread where he may: he knoweth that the day of darkenesse is prepared at hande.
15:24Affliction and anguish shall make him afraide: they shall preuaile against him as a King readie to the battell.
15:25For he hath stretched out his hand against GOD, and made him selfe strong against the Almightie.
15:26Therefore God shall runne vpon him, euen vpon his necke, and against the most thicke part of his shielde.
15:27Because he hath couered his face with his fatnesse, and hath colloppes in his flancke.
15:28Though he dwell in desolate cities, and in houses which no man inhabiteth, but are become heapes,
15:29He shall not be rich, neither shall his substance continue, neither shall he prolong the perfection thereof in the earth.
15:30He shall neuer depart out of darkenesse: the flame shall drie vp his branches, and he shall goe away with the breath of his mouth.
15:31He beleeueth not that he erreth in vanitie: therefore vanitie shalbe his change.
15:32His branch shall not be greene, but shall be cut off before his day.
15:33God shall destroy him as the vine her sower grape, and shall cast him off, as the oliue doeth her flowre.
15:34For the congregation of the hypocrite shalbe desolate, and fire shall deuoure the houses of bribes.
15:35For they conceiue mischiefe and bring foorth vanitie, and their bellie hath prepared deceite.
