| 20:1 | Then answered Zophar the Naamathite, and saide, |
| 20:2 | Therefore doe my thoughts cause mee to answere, and for this I make haste. |
| 20:3 | I haue heard the checke of my reproach, and the spirit of my vnderstanding causeth me to answere. |
| 20:4 | Knowest thou not this of old, since man was placed vpon earth, |
| 20:5 | That the triumphing of the wicked is short, and the ioy of the hypocrite but for a moment? |
| 20:6 | Though his excellencie mount vp to the heauens, and his head reach vnto the clouds: |
| 20:7 | Yet he shall perish for euer, like his owne doung: they which haue seene him, shall say, Where is he? |
| 20:8 | He shall flie away as a dreame, and shall not be found: yea he shalbe chased away as a vision of the night. |
| 20:9 | The eye also which saw him, shall see him no more; neither shall his place any more behold him. |
| 20:10 | His children shall seeke to please the poore, and his hands shall restore their goods. |
| 20:11 | His bones are ful of the sinne of his youth, which shall ye downe with him in the dust. |
| 20:12 | Though wickednes be sweet in his mouth, though hee hide it vnder his tongue; |
| 20:13 | Though he spare it, and forsake it not, but keepe it stil within his mouth: |
| 20:14 | Yet his meate in his bowels is turned, it is the gall of Aspes within him. |
| 20:15 | He hath swallowed downe riches, and hee shall vomite them vp againe: God shall cast them out of his belly. |
| 20:16 | He shall sucke the poison of Aspes: the vipers tongue shall slay him. |
| 20:17 | Hee shall not see the riuers, the floods, the brookes of hony and butter. |
| 20:18 | That which he laboured for, shall he restore, & shall not swallow it downe: according to his substance shall the restitution bee, and hee shall not reioyce therein. |
| 20:19 | Because hee hath oppressed, and hath forsaken the poore; because he hath violently taken away an house which he builded not: |
| 20:20 | Surely he shall not feele quietnesse in his belly, hee shall not saue of that which he desired. |
| 20:21 | There shall none of his meat be left, therefore shall no man looke for his goods. |
| 20:22 | In the fulnesse of his sufficiencie, he shalbe in straites: euery hand of the wicked shall come vpon him. |
| 20:23 | When he is about to fill his belly, God shall cast the furie of his wrath vpon him, and shall raine it vpon him while he is eating. |
| 20:24 | He shall flee from the iron weapon, and the bow of steele shall strike him through. |
| 20:25 | It is drawen, and commeth out of the body; yea the glistering sword commeth out of his gall; terrours are vpon him. |
| 20:26 | All darknesse shalbe hid in his secret places: a fire not blowen shall consume him; it shall goe ill with him that is left in his tabernacle. |
| 20:27 | The heauen shall reueale his iniquitie: and the earth shall rise vp against him. |
| 20:28 | The increase of his house shall depart, and his goods shall flow away in the day of his wrath. |
| 20:29 | This is the portion of a wicked man from God, and the heritage appointed vnto him by God. |

| 20:2 | Doubtlesse my thoughts cause me to answere, and therefore I make haste. |
| 20:3 | I haue heard the correction of my reproch: therefore the spirite of mine vnderstanding causeth me to answere. |
| 20:4 | Knowest thou not this of olde? and since God placed man vpon the earth, |
| 20:5 | That the reioycing of the wicked is short, and that the ioy of hypocrites is but a moment? |
| 20:6 | Though his excellencie mount vp to the heauen, and his head reache vnto the cloudes, |
| 20:7 | Yet shall hee perish for euer, like his dung, and they which haue seene him, shall say, Where is hee? |
| 20:8 | He shall flee away as a dreame, and they shall not finde him, and shall passe away as a vision of the night, |
| 20:9 | So that the eye which had seene him, shall do so no more, and his place shall see him no more. |
| 20:10 | His children shall flatter the poore, and his hands shall restore his substance. |
| 20:11 | His bones are full of the sinne of his youth, and it shall lie downe with him in the dust. |
| 20:12 | When wickednesse was sweete in his mouth, and he hid it vnder his tongue, |
| 20:13 | And fauoured it, and would not forsake it, but kept it close in his mouth, |
| 20:14 | Then his meat in his bowels was turned: the gall of Aspes was in the middes of him. |
| 20:15 | He hath deuoured substance, and hee shall vomit it: for God shall drawe it out of his bellie. |
| 20:16 | He shall sucke the gall of Aspes, and the vipers tongue shall slay him. |
| 20:17 | He shall not see the riuers, nor the floods and streames of honie and butter. |
| 20:18 | He shall restore the labour, and shall deuoure no more: euen according to the substance shalbe his exchange, and he shall enioy it no more. |
| 20:19 | For he hath vndone many: he hath forsaken the poore, and hath spoyled houses which he builded not. |
| 20:20 | Surely he shall feele no quietnes in his bodie, neither shall he reserue of that which he desired. |
| 20:21 | There shall none of his meate bee left: therefore none shall hope for his goods. |
| 20:22 | When he shalbe filled with his abundance, he shalbe in paine, and the hand of all the wicked shall assaile him. |
| 20:23 | He shall be about to fill his belly, but God shall sende vpon him his fierce wrath, and shall cause to rayne vpon him, euen vpon his meate. |
| 20:24 | He shall flee from the yron weapons, and the bow of steele shall strike him through. |
| 20:25 | The arrowe is drawen out, and commeth forth of the body, and shineth of his gall, so feare commeth vpon him. |
| 20:26 | All darkenes shalbe hid in his secret places: the fire that is not blowen, shall deuoure him, and that which remaineth in his tabernacle, shalbe destroyed. |
| 20:27 | The heauen shall declare his wickednes, and the earth shall rise vp against him. |
| 20:28 | The increase of his house shall go away: it shall flow away in the day of his wrath. |
| 20:29 | This is the portion of the wicked man from God, and the heritage that he shall haue of God for his wordes. |

| 20:3 | I haue sufficiently herde thy checking and reprofe, therfore am I purposed to make answere after myne vnderstandynge. |
| 20:4 | Knowest thou not this, namely: that from the begynnyng (euer sence the creacion of man vpon earth) |
| 20:5 | the gladnes of the vngodly hath bene shorte, and that the ioye of ypocrites continued but the twyncklynge of an eye? |
| 20:6 | Though he be magnified vp to the heauen, so that his head reacheth vnto the cloudes: |
| 20:7 | yet at a turne he perisheth for euer. Insomoch that they which haue sene hym, shall saye. Where is he? |
| 20:8 | He shall vanysh as a dreame, so that he can no more be founde, and shall passe awaye as a vision in the nyght. |
| 20:9 | So that the eye which sawe hym before, shall haue nomore syght of hym, and hys place shall knowe hym nomore. |
| 20:10 | Hys chyldren shall be fayne to agree with the poore, and his handes shall restore them their goodes. |
| 20:11 | From his youth his bones are full of pleasures, but now shall it lye downe within him in the earth. |
| 20:12 | When wyckednesse, was swete in his mouth, he hid it vnder hys tonge. |
| 20:13 | That he fauoured, that wolde he not forsake, but kepte it close in his throte. |
| 20:14 | The breade that he dyd eate, is turned to the poyson of serpentes, within his body. |
| 20:15 | The ryches that he deuoured, shall he perbrake agayne, for God shall drawe them out of his bely, |
| 20:16 | he shal sucke the gall of serpentes, and the adders tonge shall slaye hym: |
| 20:17 | so that he shall nomore se the ryuers and brokes of hony and butter. |
| 20:18 | The thing that other men haue laboured for, shall he restore agayne, and shall not eate it vp. Greate trauayle shall he make for ryches, but he shall not enioye them. |
| 20:19 | And why? he hath oppressed the poore, & not helped them: houses hath he spoyled, & not buylded them. |
| 20:20 | His bely coulde neuer be fylled, therfore shall he perishe in hys coueteousnesse. |
| 20:21 | There shall none of hys meats be left behinde, therfore shall no man loke for hys prosperite. |
| 20:22 | Whan he had plenteousnesse of euery thynge, yet was he poore, though he was helped on euery syde. |
| 20:23 | For though the wycked haue neuer somoch to fyll his bely, yet God shall sende his wrath vpon him, and cause his indignacyon to raygne ouer him: |
| 20:24 | so that yf he fle the yron weapens, he shall be shott wt the stele bowe. |
| 20:25 | The arowe is taken forth, and gone out of the quyuer, & a glystering sweard thorowe the gall of him, feare shall come vpon hym. |
| 20:26 | There shall no darcknes be able to hyde him An vnkyndled fyre shall consume him, and loke what remayneth in hys house, it shall be destroyed. |
| 20:27 | The heauen shall declare hys wyckednesse, and the earth shall take parte agaynst him. |
| 20:28 | The substaunce that he hath in hys house, shalbe taken awaye and peryshe in the daye of the Lordes wrath. |
| 20:29 | This is the porcyon that the wycked man shall haue of God, and the herytage that he maye loke for of God. because of his wordes. |
