Psalms - Chapter: 17

>
17:1A prayer of Dauid. Heare the right, O Lorde, consydre my complaynte, & herken vnto my prayer, that goeth not out of fayned lyppes.
17:2Let my sentence come forth from thy presence: and let thyne eyes loke vpon the thing that is equall.
17:3Thou hast proued & visyted myne herte in the nyght season: thou haste tryed me and shalt fynde no wyckednesse in me: for I am vtterly purposed, that my mouth shall not offende.
17:4Because of mens worckes that are done agaynst the wordes of thy lyppes I haue kepte me from the wayes of the destroyer.
17:5O holde thou vp my goynges in thy pathes, that my fote steppes slyppe not.
17:6I haue called vpon the, O God, for thou shalt heare me: enclyne thyne eare to me, and herken vnto my wordes.
17:7Shewe thy maruelous louynge kyndnesse, thou that art the sauyour of them which put theyr trust in the, from soch as resyst thy ryght hande.
17:8Kepe me as the apple of an eye, hyde me vnder the shadowe of thy wynges.
17:9From the vngodly that trouble me: mine enemies compasse me round about, to take awaye my soule.
17:10They are enclosed in their awne fatt: & their mouth speaketh proude thinges.
17:11They lye waytynge in oure waye on euery syde, turnynge their eyes downe to the grounde.
17:12Lyke as a lyon that is gredy of hys praye, and as it were a lyons whelpe lurcking in secrete places.
17:13Up Lorde, disapoynte hym, and cast hym downe: delyuer my soule from the vngodly which is as a swearde of thyne.
17:14From the men of thy hande, O Lorde from the men, I saye, and from the euyll worlde, which haue their porcion in thys lyfe, whose belyes thou fyllest wt thy hyd treasure.
17:15They haue children at their desyre: & leaue the reste of theyr substaunce for theyr babes. But as for me, I wyll beholde thy presence in righteousnes: & when I awake vp after thy lykenes, I shalbe satisfyed with it.

17:1The title of the seuenetenthe salm. To victorie, the word of the Lord to Dauid; which spak the wordis of this song, in the dai in which the Lord delyuerede hym fro the hond of alle hise enemyes, and fro the hond of Saul; and he seide:
17:2Lord, my strengthe, Y schal loue thee; the Lord is my stidfastnesse, and my refuyt, and mi deliuerere.
17:3Mi God is myn helpere; and Y schal hope in to hym. My defendere, and the horn of myn helthe; and myn vptakere.
17:4I schal preise, and ynwardli clepe the Lord; and Y schal be saaf fro myn enemyes.
17:5The sorewis of deth cumpassiden me; and the strondis of wickidnesse disturbliden me.
17:6The sorewis of helle cumpassiden me; the snaris of deeth `bifor ocupieden me.
17:7In my tribulacioun Y inwardli clepide the Lord; and Y criede to my God. And he herde my vois fro his hooli temple; and my cry in his siyt entride in to hise eeris.
17:8The erthe was mouede togidere, and tremblede togidere; the foundementis of hillis weren troblid togidere, and weren moued togidere; for he was wrooth to hem.
17:9Smoke stiede in the ire of hym, and fier brente out fro his face; coolis weren kyndlid of hym.
17:10He bowide doun heuenes, and cam doun; and derknesse was vndur hise feet.
17:11And he stiede on cherubym, and flei; he fley ouer the pennes of wyndis.
17:12And he settide derknesses his hidyng place, his tabernacle `in his cumpas; derk water was in the cloudes of the lowere eir.
17:13Ful cleer cloudis passiden in his siyt; hail and the coolis of fier.
17:14And the Lord thundrid fro heuene; and the hiyeste yaf his vois, hail and the coolis of fier `camen doun.
17:15And he sente hise arowis, and distriede tho men; he multipliede leytis, and disturblide tho men.

17:1Heare ye right (O LORDE) cosidre my coplaynte: herken vnto my prayer, that goeth not out of a fayned mouth.
17:2Let my sentence come forth fro thy presence, and loke vpon the thinge that is equall.
17:3Thou hast proued & visited myne herte in the night season: thou hast tried me in the fyre, & hast founde no wickednes in me: for I vtterly purposed, that my mouth shulde not offende.
17:4Because of the wordes of thy lippes, I haue kepte me fro the workes of men, in ye waye off the murthurer.
17:5Oh ordre thou my goynges in thy pathes, that my fote steppes slippe not.
17:6For vnto the I crie, heare me o God: enclyne thine eares to me, and herke vnto my wordes.
17:7Shewe yi maruelous louinge kindnesse, thou that sauest them which put their trust in the, from soch as resist thy right honde.
17:8Kepe me as the apple of an eye, defende me vnder the shadowe of thy wynges.
17:9From the vngodly that trouble me, fro myne enemies which compasse my soule rounde aboute.
17:10Which manteyne their owne welthynesse with oppression, & their mouth speaketh proude thinges.
17:11They lye waytinge in or waye on euery syde, turnynge their eyes downe to the grounde.
17:12Like as a lyon that is gredy of his pray, & as it were a lyons whelpe lurckynge in his denne.
17:13Vp LORDE, dispoynte him & cast him downe: delyuer my soule with thy swerde from the vngodly.
17:14Fro the men of thy honde (o LORDE) from the men off the worlde, which haue their porcion in this life: whose belies thou fyllest with thy treasure.
17:15They haue children at their desyre, and leaue the reste of their substauce for their babes. But as for me, I will beholde thy presence in rightuousnes: and when thy glory appeareth, I shal be satisfied.
