| 17:1 | The title of the seuenetenthe salm. To victorie, the word of the Lord to Dauid; which spak the wordis of this song, in the dai in which the Lord delyuerede hym fro the hond of alle hise enemyes, and fro the hond of Saul; and he seide: |
| 17:2 | Lord, my strengthe, Y schal loue thee; the Lord is my stidfastnesse, and my refuyt, and mi deliuerere. |
| 17:3 | Mi God is myn helpere; and Y schal hope in to hym. My defendere, and the horn of myn helthe; and myn vptakere. |
| 17:4 | I schal preise, and ynwardli clepe the Lord; and Y schal be saaf fro myn enemyes. |
| 17:5 | The sorewis of deth cumpassiden me; and the strondis of wickidnesse disturbliden me. |
| 17:6 | The sorewis of helle cumpassiden me; the snaris of deeth `bifor ocupieden me. |
| 17:7 | In my tribulacioun Y inwardli clepide the Lord; and Y criede to my God. And he herde my vois fro his hooli temple; and my cry in his siyt entride in to hise eeris. |
| 17:8 | The erthe was mouede togidere, and tremblede togidere; the foundementis of hillis weren troblid togidere, and weren moued togidere; for he was wrooth to hem. |
| 17:9 | Smoke stiede in the ire of hym, and fier brente out fro his face; coolis weren kyndlid of hym. |
| 17:10 | He bowide doun heuenes, and cam doun; and derknesse was vndur hise feet. |
| 17:11 | And he stiede on cherubym, and flei; he fley ouer the pennes of wyndis. |
| 17:12 | And he settide derknesses his hidyng place, his tabernacle `in his cumpas; derk water was in the cloudes of the lowere eir. |
| 17:13 | Ful cleer cloudis passiden in his siyt; hail and the coolis of fier. |
| 17:14 | And the Lord thundrid fro heuene; and the hiyeste yaf his vois, hail and the coolis of fier `camen doun. |
| 17:15 | And he sente hise arowis, and distriede tho men; he multipliede leytis, and disturblide tho men. |
| 17:1 | The prayer of Dauid. Heare the right, O Lord, consider my crye: hearken vnto my prayer of lips vnfained. |
| 17:2 | Let my sentence come forth from thy presence, and let thine eyes beholde equitie. |
| 17:3 | Thou hast prooued and visited mine heart in the night: thou hast tryed me, and foundest nothing: for I was purposed that my mouth should not offend. |
| 17:4 | Concerning the workes of men, by the wordes of thy lips I kept mee from the paths of the cruell man. |
| 17:5 | Stay my steps in thy paths, that my feete doe not slide. |
| 17:6 | I haue called vpon thee: surely thou wilt heare me, O God: incline thine eare to me, and hearken vnto my wordes. |
| 17:7 | Shewe thy marueilous mercies, thou that art the Sauiour of them that trust in thee, from such as resist thy right hand. |
| 17:8 | Keepe me as the apple of the eye: hide me vnder the shadowe of thy wings, |
| 17:9 | From the wicked that oppresse mee, from mine enemies, which compasse me round about for my soule. |
| 17:10 | They are inclosed in their owne fat, and they haue spoken proudely with their mouth. |
| 17:11 | They haue compassed vs now in our steps: they haue set their eyes to bring downe to the ground: |
| 17:12 | Like as a lyon that is greedy of pray, and as it were a lyons whelp lurking in secret places. |
| 17:13 | Vp Lord, disappoint him: cast him downe: deliuer my soule from the wicked with thy sworde, |
| 17:14 | From men by thine hand, O Lord, from men of the world, who haue their portion in this life, whose bellies thou fillest with thine hid treasure: their children haue ynough, and leaue the rest of their substance for their children. |
| 17:15 | But I will beholde thy face in righteousnes, and when I awake, I shalbe satisfied with thine image. |
