| 40:1 | [To the chiefe Musician, A Psalme of Dauid.] I waited patiently for the Lord, and he inclined vnto me, and heard my crie. |
| 40:2 | He brought me vp also out of an horrible pit, out of the mirie clay, and set my feete vpon a rock, and established my goings. |
| 40:3 | And he hath put a new song in my mouth, euen praise vnto our God: many shall see it, and feare, and shall trust in the Lord. |
| 40:4 | Blessed is that man that maketh the Lord his truste: and respecteth not the proud, nor such as turne aside to lies. |
| 40:5 | Many, O Lord my God; are thy wonderfull workes which thou hast done, and thy thoughts, which are to vs ward: they cannot be reckoned vp in order vnto thee: if I would declare and speake of them, they are moe then can be numbred. |
| 40:6 | Sacrifice and offering thou didst not desire, mine eares hast thou opened: burnt offering and sinne-offering hast thou not required. |
| 40:7 | Then sayd I, Loe, I come: in the volume of the booke it is written of me: |
| 40:8 | I delight to doe thy will, O my God: yea thy lawe is within my heart. |
| 40:9 | I haue preached righteousnesse in the great congregation: loe, I haue not refrained my lippes, O Lord, thou knowest. |
| 40:10 | I haue not hid thy righteousnesse within my heart, I haue declared thy faithfulnesse and thy saluation: I haue not concealed thy louing kindnesse, and thy truth, from the great congregation. |
| 40:11 | With-hold not thou thy tender mercies from me, O Lord: let thy louing kindnesse, and thy trueth continually preserue me. |
| 40:12 | For innumerable euils haue compassed me about, mine iniquities haue taken hold vpon me, so that I am not able to looke vp: they are moe then the haires of mine head, therefore my heart faileth me. |
| 40:13 | Be pleased, O Lord, to deliuer me: O Lord, make haste to helpe me. |
| 40:14 | Let them be ashamed and confounded together, that seeke after my soule to destroy it: let them be driuen backward, and put to shame, that wish me euill. |
| 40:15 | Let them be desolate, for a reward on their shame, that say vnto me, Aha, aha! |
| 40:16 | Let all those that seeke thee, reioyce and bee glad in thee: let such as loue thy saluation, say continually, The Lord be magnified. |
| 40:17 | But I am poore and needy, yet the Lord thinketh vpon me: thou art my helpe and my deliuerer, make no tarrying, O my God. |

| 40:8 | I desired to doe thy good will, O my God: yea, thy Lawe is within mine heart. |
| 40:9 | I haue declared thy righteousnesse in the great Congregation: loe, I will not refraine my lippes: O Lord, thou knowest. |
| 40:10 | I haue not hidde thy righteousnesse within mine heart, but I haue declared thy trueth and thy saluation: I haue not conceiled thy mercy and thy trueth from the great Congregation. |
| 40:11 | Withdrawe not thou thy tender mercie from mee, O Lord: let thy mercie and thy trueth alway preserue me. |
| 40:12 | For innumerable troubles haue compassed mee: my sinnes haue taken such holde vpon me, that I am not able to looke vp: yea, they are moe in nomber then the heares of mine head: therefore mine heart hath failed me. |
| 40:13 | Let it please thee, O Lord, to deliuer mee: make haste, O Lord, to helpe me. |
| 40:14 | Let them be confounded and put to shame together, that seeke my soule to destroye it: let them be driuen backward and put to rebuke, that desire mine hurt. |
| 40:15 | Let them be destroyed for a rewarde of their shame, which say vnto me, Aha, aha. |
| 40:16 | Let all them, that seeke thee, reioyce and be glad in thee: and let them, that loue thy saluation, say alway, The Lord be praysed. |

| 40:5 | O Lord my God, greate are thy wonderous worckes, which thou hast done: like as be also thy thoughtes which are to vs ward: and yet there is no man that ordreth them vnto the. |
| 40:6 | Yf I wolde declare them, and speake of them, they shulde be moo then I am able to expresse. |
| 40:7 | Sacrifice and meat offerynge thou woldest not haue, but myne eares hast thou opened: burntofferynges and sacrifice for synne hast thou not required. Then sayd I: Lo, I come. |
| 40:8 | In the volume of the boke it is written of me, that I shulde fulfyll thy will, O my God: I am content to do it: yee, thy lawe is wythin my hert. |
| 40:9 | I haue declared thy ryghtuousnesse in the great congregacion: Lo, I will not refrayne my lippes, O Lord, & that thou knowest. |
| 40:10 | I haue not hyd thy ryghtuousnes within my hert my talkynge hath bene of thy truth and of thy saluacion. I haue not kept backe thy louing mercy, & truth from the greate congregacion. |
| 40:11 | Withdrawe not thou thy mercy fro me O Lord, let thy louinge kyndnesse and thy truth alwaye preserue me. |
| 40:12 | For innumerable troubles are come aboute me: my synnes haue taken soche holde vpon me, that I am not able to loke vp: yee, they are mo in nombre then the heeres of my head, and my hert hath fayled me. |
| 40:13 | O Lorde, let it be thy pleasure to deliuer me, make haste (O Lorde) to helpe me. Let them be ashamed & confounded together, that seke after my soule to destroye it: let them be dryuen backward & be put to rebuke, that wish me euell. |
| 40:14 | Let them be desolate & rewarded wt shame, that saye vnto me: fye vpon the, fye vpon the. |
| 40:15 | Let all those that seke the, be ioyfull and glad in the: & let soch as loue thy saluacion, saye allwaye the Lorde be praysed. |
