40:1To the chaunter, a Psalme of Dauid. I Wayted paciently for the Lord, & he enclyned vnto me: and hearde my calling.
40:2He brought me also out of the horrible pitte, out of the myer and claye, and sett my fete vpon the rocke, and ordred my goynges.
40:3And he hath put a new songe in my mouth, euen a thanckesgeuynge vnto oure God. Many shall se it, and feare, and shall put their trust in the Lorde.
40:4Blessed is the man, that hath sette hys hope in the Lorde, and turned not vnto the proude, and to soch as go aboute with lyes.
40:5O Lord my God, greate are thy wonderous worckes, which thou hast done: like as be also thy thoughtes which are to vs ward: and yet there is no man that ordreth them vnto the.
40:6Yf I wolde declare them, and speake of them, they shulde be moo then I am able to expresse.
40:7Sacrifice and meat offerynge thou woldest not haue, but myne eares hast thou opened: burntofferynges and sacrifice for synne hast thou not required. Then sayd I: Lo, I come.
40:8In the volume of the boke it is written of me, that I shulde fulfyll thy will, O my God: I am content to do it: yee, thy lawe is wythin my hert.
40:9I haue declared thy ryghtuousnesse in the great congregacion: Lo, I will not refrayne my lippes, O Lord, & that thou knowest.
40:10I haue not hyd thy ryghtuousnes within my hert my talkynge hath bene of thy truth and of thy saluacion. I haue not kept backe thy louing mercy, & truth from the greate congregacion.
40:11Withdrawe not thou thy mercy fro me O Lord, let thy louinge kyndnesse and thy truth alwaye preserue me.
40:12For innumerable troubles are come aboute me: my synnes haue taken soche holde vpon me, that I am not able to loke vp: yee, they are mo in nombre then the heeres of my head, and my hert hath fayled me.
40:13O Lorde, let it be thy pleasure to deliuer me, make haste (O Lorde) to helpe me. Let them be ashamed & confounded together, that seke after my soule to destroye it: let them be dryuen backward & be put to rebuke, that wish me euell.
40:14Let them be desolate & rewarded wt shame, that saye vnto me: fye vpon the, fye vpon the.
40:15Let all those that seke the, be ioyfull and glad in the: & let soch as loue thy saluacion, saye allwaye the Lorde be praysed.
40:16As for me, I am poore & neadye, but the Lorde careth for me.
40:17Thou art my helper and redemer: make no longe taryinge (O my God.)

40:2Blessid is he that vndurstondith `on a nedi man and pore; the Lord schal delyuere hym in the yuel dai.
40:3The Lord kepe hym, and quykene hym, and make hym blesful in the lond; and bitake not hym in to the wille of his enemyes.
40:4The Lord bere help to hym on the bed of his sorewe; thou hast ofte turned al his bed stre in his sijknesse.
40:5I seide, Lord, haue thou mercy on me; heele thou my soule, for Y synnede ayens thee.
40:6Myn enemyes seiden yuels to me; Whanne schal he die, and his name schal perische?
40:7And if he entride for to se, he spak veyn thingis; his herte gaderide wickidnesse to hym silf.
40:8He yede with out forth; and spak to the same thing. Alle myn enemyes bacbitiden pryuyli ayens me; ayens me thei thouyten yuels to me.
40:9Thei ordeineden an yuel word ayens me; Whether he that slepith, schal not leie to, that he rise ayen?
40:10For whi the man of my pees, in whom Y hopide, he that eet my looues; made greet disseit on me.
40:11But thou, Lord, haue merci on me, and reise me ayen; and Y schal yelde to hem.
40:12In this thing Y knew, that thou woldist me; for myn enemye schal not haue ioye on me.
40:13Forsothe thou hast take me vp for ynnocence; and hast confermed me in thi siyt with outen ende.
40:14Blessid be the Lord God of Israel, fro the world and in to the world; be it doon, be it doon.

40:2He brought me out of the horrible pitte, out of the myre and claye: he set my fete vpo the rocke, and ordred my goinges.

40:4Blessed is the man that setteth his hope in the LORDE, and turneth not vnto the proude, & to soch as go aboute with lies.
40:5O LORDE my God, greate are yi wonderous workes which thou hast done: & in thy thoughtes towarde vs there maye none be lickened vnto the.
40:6I wolde declare them, and speake of the: but they are so many, that they can not be tolde.
40:7Sacrifice and offeringe thou woldest not haue but a body hast thou ordeined me: burntofferynges and sacrifice for synne thou hast not alowed. Then sayde I: Lo, I come.
40:8In the begynnynge of the boke it is written of me, that I shulde fulfill thy wil O my God, & that am I contet to do: yee thy lawe is within my hert.
40:9I wil preach of yi rightuousnesse in the greate congregacion: Lo, I wil not refrayne my lippes, o LORDE, & that thou knowest.
40:10I do not hyde yi rightuousnes in my hert, my talkynge is of thy treuth and sauynge health: I kepe not thy louynge mercy and faithfulnesse backe from the greate congregacion.
40:11Turne not thou thy mercy fro me o LORDE, but let thy louynge kyndnesse and treuth allwaye preserue me.
40:12For innumerable troubles are come aboute me: my synnes haue taken soch holde vpon me, that I am not able to loke vp: yee they are mo in nombre then the hayres of my heade, and my hert hath fayled me.
40:13O LORDE, let it be thy pleasure to deliuer me, make haist (o LORDE) to helpe me. Let them be ashamed and cofounded, that seke after my soule, to destroie it: let them fall backwarde and be put to confucion, that wysh me euell.
40:14Let the soone be brought to shame, that crie ouer me: there there.
40:15But let all those that seke the, be ioyfull and glad in the: and let all soch as delyte in thy sauynge health, saye allwaye: the LORDE be praysed.
40:16As for me, I am poore & in mysery, but the LORDE careth for me.
40:17Thou art my helper & redemer, make no longe tariege, o my God.
