Psalms - Chapter: 44

>
44:1[To the chiefe Musician for the sonnes of Korah.] Wee haue heard with our eares, O God, our fathers haue told vs, what worke thou didst in their dayes, in the times of old.
44:2How thou didst driue out the heathen with thy hand, & plantedst them; how thou didst afflict the people, and cast them out.
44:3For they got not the land in possession by their owne sword, neither did their owne arme saue them: but thy right hand, and thine arme, and the light of thy countenance, because thou hadst a fauour vnto them.
44:4Thou art my King, O God: command deliuerances for Iacob.
44:5Through thee will wee push downe our enemies: through thy Name will wee tread them vnder that rise vp against vs.
44:6For I will not trust in my bow, neither shall my sword saue me.
44:7But thou hast saued vs from our enemies, and hast put them to shame that hated vs.
44:8In God we boast all the day long: and praise thy Name for euer. Selah.
44:9But thou hast cast off and put vs to shame; and goest not forth with our armies.
44:10Thou makest vs to turne backe from the enemie: and they which hate vs, spoile for themselues.
44:11Thou hast giuen vs like sheepe appointed for meate: and hast scattered vs among the heathen.
44:12Thou sellest thy people for nought, and doest not increase thy wealth by their price.
44:13Thou makest vs a reproch to our neighbours, a scorne and a derision to them that are round about vs.
44:14Thou makest vs a by-word among the heathen: a shaking of the head among the people.
44:15My confusion is continually before me, and the shame of my face hath couered me.
44:16For the voice of him that reproacheth, and blasphemeth: by reason of the enemie and auenger.
44:17All this is come vpon vs; yet haue wee not forgotten thee, neither haue we dealt falsly in thy couenant.
44:18Our heart is not turned backe: neither haue our steps declined from thy way,
44:19Though thou hast sore broken vs in the place of dragons, and couered vs with the shadow of death.
44:20If wee haue forgotten the name of our God, or stretched out our hands to a strange God:
44:21Shall not God search this out? for he knoweth the secrets of the heart.
44:22Yea for thy sake are wee killed all the day long: wee are counted as sheepe for the slaughter.
44:23Awake, why sleepest thou, O Lord? arise, cast vs not off for euer.
44:24Wherefore hidest thou thy face? and forgettest our affliction, and our oppression?
44:25For our soule is bowed downe to the dust; our belly cleaueth vnto the earth.
44:26Arise for our helpe, and redeeme vs for thy mercies sake.

44:1We haue hearde with our eares O Lorde: our fathers haue tolde vs what workes thou hast done in their daies in the olde tyme
44:2Howe thou hast driuen out the heathen with thy hande and planted them in: howe thou hast destroyed the nations & placed them
44:3For they gat not the lande in possession through their owne sworde: neither was it their owne arme that saued them. (44:4) But thy ryght hande, and thine arme, & the lyght of thy countenaunce: because thou hadst a fauour vnto them
44:4(44:5) Thou art my kyng O Lorde: commaunde that Iacob be saued
44:5(44:6) Through thee we wyll ouerthrowe our enemies: and in thy name we wyll treade them vnder that ryse vp agaynst vs
44:6(44:7) For I wyll not trust in my bowe: and it is not my sworde that can saue me
44:7(44:8) But it is thou that sauest vs from our enemies: and thou puttest them to confusion that hate vs
44:8(44:9) We make our boast of God all the day long: and we wyll confesse thy name for euer. Selah
44:9(44:10) But nowe thou art farre of, and thou puttest vs to confusion: neither goest thou foorth with our armies
44:10(44:11) Thou makest vs to turne away backwarde from the enemie: so that they which hate vs, do make vs a spoyle vnto them
44:11(44:12) Thou hast delyuered vs as sheepe to be eaten: and thou hast scattered vs among the heathen
44:12(44:13) Thou hast solde thy people for naught: and thou hast taken no money for them
44:13(44:14) Thou hast made vs a rebuke to our neighbours: to be laughed to scorne and had in derision of them that are rounde about vs
44:14(44:15) Thou hast made vs to be a fable among the heathen: and to be such that the people shake their head at vs
44:15(44:16a) My confusion is dayly before me, and the shame of my face couereth me
44:16(44:16b) for to heare the voyce of the slaunderer & blasphemer, and for to see the enemie and the auenger
44:17And though all this be come vpon vs: yet we do not forget thee, nor shewe our selues to be false in thy couenaunt
44:18(44:18a) Our heart is not turned backe, neither our steppes be declined out of thy pathes
44:19(44:18b) no not when thou hast smitten vs in the place of dragons, and couered vs with the shadowe of death
44:20(44:19a) If we had forgotten the name of our Lorde, and holden vp our handes to any straunge god
44:21(44:19b) woulde not God searche it out? for he knoweth the very secretes of the heart
44:22(44:20) For thy sake also are we kylled all the day long: and are counted as sheepe appoynted to be slayne
44:23(44:21a) Stirre vp O Lorde, why slepest thou? awake & be not absent from vs for euer
44:24(44:21b) wherfore hydest thou thy face, and forgettest our miserie and tribulation
44:25(44:22) For our soule is brought lowe vnto the dust: our belly cleaueth vnto the grounde
44:26(44:23) Aryse vp thou our ayde, and redeeme vs: for thy louyng kindnesse sake

44:1To him that excelleth. A Psalme to give instruction, committed to the sonnes of Korah. We haue heard with our eares, O God: our fathers haue tolde vs the workes, that thou hast done in their dayes, in the olde time:
44:2Howe thou hast driuen out the heathen with thine hand, and planted them: how thou hast destroyed the people, and caused them to grow.
44:3For they inherited not the lande by their owne sworde, neither did their owne arme saue them: but thy right hand, and thine arme and the light of thy countenance, because thou didest fauour them.
44:4Thou art my King, O God: send helpe vnto Iaakob.
44:5Through thee haue we thrust backe our aduersaries: by thy Name haue we troden downe them that rose vp against vs.
44:6For I do not trust in my bowe, neither can my sworde saue me.
44:7But thou hast saued vs from our aduersaries, and hast put them to confusion that hate vs.
44:8Therefore will wee praise God continually, and will confesse thy Name for euer. Selah.
44:9But now thou art farre off, and puttest vs to confusion, and goest not forth with our armies.
44:10Thou makest vs to turne backe from the aduersary, and they, which hate vs, spoile for theselues.
44:11Thou giuest vs as sheepe to bee eaten, and doest scatter vs among the nations.
44:12Thou sellest thy people without gaine, and doest not increase their price.
44:13Thou makest vs a reproche to our neighbours, a iest and a laughing stocke to them that are round about vs.
44:14Thou makest vs a prouerbe among the nations, and a nodding of the head among the people.
44:15My confusion is dayly before me, and the shame of my face hath couered me,
44:16For the voyce of the slaunderer and rebuker, for the enemie and auenger.
44:17All this is come vpon vs, yet doe wee not forget thee, neither deale wee falsly concerning thy couenant.
44:18Our heart is not turned backe: neither our steps gone out of thy paths,
44:19Albeit thou hast smitten vs downe into the place of dragons, and couered vs with the shadow of death.
44:20If wee haue forgotten the Name of our God, and holden vp our hands to a strange god,
44:21Shall not God searche this out? for hee knoweth the secrets of the heart.
44:22Surely for thy sake are we slaine continually, and are counted as sheepe for the slaughter.
44:23Vp, why sleepest thou, O Lord? awake, be not farre off for euer.
44:24Wherefore hidest thou thy face? and forgettest our miserie and our affliction?
44:25For our soule is beaten downe vnto the dust: our belly cleaueth vnto the ground.
44:26Rise vp for our succour, and redeeme vs for thy mercies sake.
