Psalms - Chapter: 79

79:1A Psalme of Asaph. O God the Heathen are come into thy inheritaunce: thy holy temple haue they defyled, and made Ierusalem an heape of stones.
79:2The deed bodyes of thy seruauntes haue they geuen to be meate, vnto the foules of the ayre, and the flesh of thy saynctes vnto the beastes of the lande.
79:3Their bloud haue they shed lyke water on euery syde of Ierusalem, and there was no man to burye them.
79:4We are become an open shame vnto oure enemies, a very scorne and derysyon vnto them that are rounde aboute us.
79:5Lorde, how longe wylt thou be angrye? shall thy gelousy burne lyke fyre for euer?
79:6Poure out thyne indignacion vpon the Heathen that haue not knowne the, and vpon the kyngdome that haue not called vpon thy name.
79:7For they haue deuoured Iacob, and layed waste his dwellinge place.
79:8O remembre not oure olde synnes, but haue mercy vpon vs, and that soone, for we are come to greate misery.
79:9Helpe vs, O God of oure saluacion, for the glory of thy name: O delyuer vs, and be mercyfull vnto oure synnes for thy names sake.
79:10Wherfore do the Heathen saye: where is now their God?
79:11O let the vengeaunce of thy seruauntes bloude that is shed, be openly shewed vpon the Heathen in oure syght.
79:12O let the sorowfull syghyng of the presoners come before the: accordyng vnto the greatnesse of thy power, preserue thou those that are appoynted to dye.
79:13And for the blasphemy (wherwith oure neyghbours haue blasphemed the) rewarde thou them, O Lorde, seuen folde into their bosome. So we, that be thy people and shepe of thy pasture, shall geue the thanckes for euer, and wyl alwaye be shewynge forth thy prayse from generacion to generacion.

 

79:1The title of the nyne and seuentithe salm. To victorie; this salm is witnessing of Asaph for lilies.
79:2Thou that gouernest Israel, yyue tent; that leedist forth Joseph as a scheep. Thou that sittist on cherubym; be schewid bifore Effraym,
79:3Beniamyn, and Manasses. Stire thi power, and come thou; that thou make vs saaf.
79:4God of vertues, turne thou vs; and schewe thi face, and we schulen be saaf.
79:5Lord God of vertues; hou longe schalt thou be wrooth on the preier of thi seruaunt?
79:6Hou longe schalt thou feede vs with the breed of teeris; and schalt yyue drynke to vs with teeris in mesure?
79:7Thou hast set vs in to ayenseiyng to oure neiyboris; and oure enemyes han scornyde vs.
79:8God of vertues, turne thou vs; and schewe thi face, and we schulen be saaf.
79:9Thou translatidist a vyne fro Egipt; thou castidist out hethene men, and plauntidist it.
79:10Thou were leeder of the weie in the siyt therof; and thou plauntidist the rootis therof, and it fillide the lond.
79:11The schadewe therof hilide hillis; and the braunchis therof filliden the cedris of God.
79:12It streiyte forth hise siouns til to the see, and the generacioun ther of `til to the flood.
79:13Whi hast thou destried the wal therof; and alle men that goen forth bi the weie gaderiden awei the grapis therof?

79:3Their bloude haue they shed like water on euery syde of Ierusalem, and there was no ma to burie them.
79:4We are become an open shame vnto oure enemies, a very scorne and derision vnto them that are rounde aboute vs.
79:5LORDE, how longe wilt thou be angrie? shal thy gelousy burne like fyre for euer?
79:6Poure out thy indignacion vpon the Heithen that knowe the not, and vpon the kyngdomes that call not vpon thy name.
79:7For they haue deuoured Iacob, and layed waiste his dwellinge place.
79:8O remebre not oure olde synnes, but haue mercy vpon vs (& that soone) for we are come to greate mysery.
79:9Helpe vs (O God or Sauyor) for ye glory of yi name: o delyuer vs, & forgeue vs or synnes for yi names sake.
79:10Wherfore shall ye Heithe saye: where is now their God?
79:11O let the vengeaunce of thy seruauntes bloude that is shed, be openly shewed vpon the Heithe in oure sight.
79:12O let the soroufull sighinge of the presoners come before the, and acordinge vnto ye power of thine arme, preserue those yt are appoynted to dye.
79:13And for the blasphemy wher wt or neghbours haue blasphemed ye, rewarde the (o LORDE) seuefolde in to their bosome. So we yt be yi people & shepe of thy pasture, shal geue the thankes for euer, & wil allwaye be shewinge forth thy prayse more & more.
