129:1The `title of the hundrid and nyne and twentithe `salm. The song of greces. Lord, Y criede to thee fro depthes; Lord, here thou mi vois.
129:2Thin eeris be maad ententif; in to the vois of my biseching.
129:3Lord, if thou kepist wickidnessis; Lord, who schal susteyne?
129:4For merci is at thee; and, Lord, for thi lawe Y abood thee. Mi soule susteynede in his word; my soule hopide in the Lord.
129:5Fro the morewtid keping til to niyt;
129:6Israel hope in the Lord.
129:7For whi merci is at the Lord; and plenteous redempcioun is at hym.
129:8And he schal ayen bie Israel; fro alle the wickidnessis therof.

 

129:1A song of degrees. They haue often times afflicted me from my youth (may Israel nowe say)
129:2They haue often times afflicted me from my youth: but they could not preuaile against me.
129:3The plowers plowed vpon my backe, and made long furrowes.
129:4But the righteous Lord hath cut the cordes of the wicked.
129:5They that hate Zion, shalbe all ashamed and turned backward.
129:6They shalbe as the grasse on the house tops, which withereth afore it commeth forth.
129:7Whereof the mower filleth not his hand, neither the glainer his lap:
129:8Neither they, which go by, say, The blessing of the Lord be vpon you, or, We blesse you in the Name of the Lord.
