Proverbs - Chapter: 1

>
1:1The Prouerbes of Solomon the sonne of Dauid, King of Israel,
1:2To knowe wisedome and instruction, to perceiue the words of vnderstanding,
1:3To receiue the instruction of wisdome, iustice, and iudgement & equitie,
1:4To giue subtiltie to the simple, to the yong man knowledge and discretion.
1:5A wise man wil heare, and wil increase learning: and a man of vnderstanding shall attaine vnto wise counsels:
1:6To vnderstand a prouerbe, and the interpretation; the wordes of the wise, and their darke sayings.
1:7The feare of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge: but fooles despise wisedome and instruction.
1:8My sonne, heare the instruction of thy father, and forsake not the law of thy mother.
1:9For they shall be an ornament of grace vnto thy head, and chaines about thy necke.
1:10My sonne, if sinners entise thee, consent thou not.
1:11If they say, Come with vs, let vs lay wait for blood, let vs lurke priuily for the innocent without cause:
1:12Let vs swallow them vp aliue, as the graue, and whole, as those that goe downe into the pit:
1:13Wee shall finde all precious substance, wee shall fill our houses with spoile:
1:14Cast in thy lot among vs, let vs all haue one purse:
1:15My sonne, walke not thou in the way with them; refraine thy foot from their path:
1:16For their feete runne to euil, and make haste to shed blood.
1:17Surely in vaine the net is spread in the sight of any bird.
1:18And they lay wait for their owne blood, they lurke priuily for their owne liues.
1:19So are the waies of euery one that is greedie of gaine: which taketh away the life of the owners thereof.
1:20Wisedome crieth without, she vttereth her voice in the streets:
1:21Shee crieth in the chiefe place of concourse, in the openings of the gates: in the city she vttereth her words, saying,
1:22How long, ye simple ones, will ye loue simplicitie? And the scorners delight in their scorning, and fooles hate knowledge?
1:23Turne you at my reproofe: behold, I will powre out my spirit vnto you, I will make knowen my wordes vnto you.
1:24Because I haue called, and yee refused, I haue stretched out my hand, and no man regarded:
1:25But ye haue set at nought all my counsell, & would none of my reproofe:
1:26I also will laugh at your calamitie, I wil mocke when your feare commeth.
1:27When your feare commeth as desolation, and your destruction commeth as a whirlewinde; when distresse and anguish commeth vpon you:
1:28Then shall they call vpon mee, but I will not answere; they shall seeke me early, but they shall not finde me:
1:29For that they hated knowledge, and did not choose the feare of the Lord.
1:30They would none of my counsel: they despised all my reproofe.
1:31Therefore shall they eate of the fruite of their owne way, and be filled with their owne deuices.
1:32For the turning away of the simple shall slay them, and the prosperity of fooles shall destroy them.
1:33But who so hearkneth vnto mee, shall dwell safely, and shall be quiet from feare of euill.

1:1The prouerbes of Solomon the sonne of Dauid, kyng of Israel
1:2To learne wisdome and instruction, & to perceaue the wordes of vnderstandyng
1:3To receaue the instruction of wisdome, iustice, iudgement, and equitie
1:4To geue wyt vnto the simple, and that the young men myght haue knowledge and vnderstandyng
1:5The wise man wyll geue eare, and wyll come by more wisdome, and he that is endued with vnderstanding shal attayne vnto wise counsayles
1:6To vnderstande a parable, and the interpretation therof, the wordes of the wise, and their darke speaches
1:7The feare of the Lorde is the begynnyng of knowledge: but fooles dispise wisdome and instruction
1:8My sonne, heare thy fathers doctrine, & forsake not the lawe of thy mother
1:9For they shalbe an encrease of grace vnto thy head, and as a chayne about thy necke
1:10My sonne, if sinners entice thee, consent not vnto them
1:11If they say, come with vs, let vs lay wayte for blood, and lurke priuily for the innocent without a cause
1:12Let vs swallowe them vp lyke the graue quicke and whole, as those that go downe into the pit
1:13So shall we finde all maner of costly riches, and fill our houses with spoyles
1:14Cast in thy lot among vs, and let vs all haue one purse
1:15My sonne, walke not thou with them, refrayne thy foote from their wayes
1:16For their feete runne to euyll, and are hasty to shed blood
1:17But as in vayne, the nette is layde foorth before the birdes eyes
1:18So these lay wayte for the blood of them, and lye priuily for their liues
1:19Such are the wayes of euery one that is greedie of gayne, who taketh away the life of the owner therof
1:20Wisdome cryeth without, and putteth foorth her voyce in the streetes
1:21She calleth before the congregation in the open gates, and sheweth her wordes through the citie, saying
1:22O ye children, howe long wyll ye loue childishnesse? howe long wyll the scorners delite in scornyng, and the vnwise hate knowledge
1:23O turne you at my correction: lo I wyll expresse my mynde vnto you, and make you vnderstande my wordes
1:24Because I haue called, and ye refused, I haue stretched out my hande, and no man regarded
1:25But all my counsels haue ye dispised, and set my correction at naught
1:26Therfore wyll I also laugh at your destruction, and mocke you, when the thyng that ye feare commeth vpon you
1:27Euen when the thyng that ye be afraide of falleth in sodenly like a storme, and your miserie lyke a tempest, yea when trouble and heauinesse commeth vpon you
1:28Then shall they call vpon me, but I wyll not aunswere: they shall seeke me early, but they shall not finde me
1:29And that because they hated knowledge, and did not choose the feare of the Lorde
1:30They woulde none of my counsayle, but dispised all my correction
1:31Therfore shall they eate of the fruite of their owne way, and be fylled with their owne inuentions
1:32For the turnyng away of the vnwise shall slay them, and the prosperitie of fooles shall destroy them
1:33But whoso hearkeneth vnto me, shal dwell safely, and be sure from any feare of euyll

1:1The Parables of Salomon the sonne of Dauid King of Israel,
1:2To knowe wisdome, and instruction, to vnderstand ye wordes of knowledge,
1:3To receiue instruction to do wisely, by iustice and iudgement and equitie,
1:4To giue vnto the simple, sharpenesse of wit, and to the childe knowledge and discretion.
1:5A wise man shall heare and increase in learning, and a man of vnderstanding shall attayne vnto wise counsels,
1:6To vnderstand a parable, and the interpretation, the wordes of ye wise, and their darke sayings.
1:7The feare of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge: but fooles despise wisedome and instruction.
1:8My sonne, heare thy fathers instruction, and forsake not thy mothers teaching.
1:9For they shalbe a comely ornament vnto thine head, and as chaines for thy necke.
1:10My sonne, if sinners doe intise thee, consent thou not.
1:11If they say, Come with vs, we will lay waite for blood, and lie priuilie for the innocent without a cause:
1:12We wil swallow them vp aliue like a graue euen whole, as those that goe downe into the pit:
1:13We shall finde all precious riches, and fill our houses with spoyle:
1:14Cast in thy lot among vs: we will all haue one purse:
1:15My sonne, walke not thou in the way with them: refraine thy foote from their path.
1:16For their feete runne to euill, and make haste to shed blood.
1:17Certainely as without cause the net is spred before the eyes of all that hath wing:
1:18So they lay waite for blood and lie priuily for their liues.
1:19Such are the wayes of euery one that is greedy of gaine: he would take away the life of the owners thereof.
1:20Wisdome cryeth without: she vttereth her voyce in the streetes.
1:21She calleth in the hye streete, among the prease in the entrings of the gates, and vttereth her wordes in the citie, saying,
1:22O ye foolish, howe long will ye loue foolishnes? and the scornefull take their pleasure in scorning, and the fooles hate knowledge?
1:23(Turne you at my correction: loe, I will powre out my mind vnto you, and make you vnderstand my wordes)
1:24Because I haue called, and ye refused: I haue stretched out mine hand, and none woulde regarde.
1:25But ye haue despised all my counsell, and would none of my correction.
1:26I will also laugh at your destruction, and mocke, when your feare commeth.
1:27Whe your feare cometh like sudden desolation, and your destruction shall come like a whirle wind: whe affliction and anguish shall come vpon you,
1:28Then shall they call vpon me, but I will not answere: they shall seeke me early, but they shall not finde me,
1:29Because they hated knowledge, and did not chuse the feare of the Lord.
1:30They would none of my counsell, but despised all my correction.
1:31Therefore shall they eate of ye fruite of their owne way, and be filled with their owne deuises.
1:32For ease slaieth the foolish, and the prosperitie of fooles destroyeth them.
1:33But he that obeyeth me, shall dwell safely, and be quiet from feare of euill.
