| 1:1 | The prouerbes of Salomon, the sonne of Dauid kynge of Israel: |
| 1:2 | to learne wisdome, & to perceaue the instruccyon, and to perceaue the wordes of vnderstondynge: & therby to receaue prudence, |
| 1:3 | ryghteousnes, iudgement and equite. |
| 1:4 | That the very simple myght haue wyt, and that the yonge men myght haue knowledge and true vnderstanding. |
| 1:5 | By hearing the wise man shall come by more wysedome: and he that is endewed wt vnderstanding |
| 1:6 | shal optayn wit to perceaue a parable, & the interpretacyon therof, the wordes of the wyse, & the darcke speaches of the same. |
| 1:7 | The feare of the Lorde is the begynnyng of wysdome. But fooles despyse wysdome & instruccion. |
| 1:8 | My sonne, heare thy fathers doctrine: & forsake not the lawe of thy mother: |
| 1:9 | for that shall bringe grace vnto thy heed, and shalbe as a cheyne about thy neck. |
| 1:10 | My sonne, consente not vnto synners, |
| 1:11 | yf they entise the, & saye: come with vs, we will laye wayte for bloude, & lurcke preuely for the innocent without a cause: |
| 1:12 | we shall swalowe then vp lyke the hell, & deuoure them quycke and hole, as those that go downe into the pyt. |
| 1:13 | So shall we fynde all maner of costelye ryches, & fill our houses wt spoyles. |
| 1:14 | Cast in thy lot among vs: & let vs haue all one purse. |
| 1:15 | My sonne, walke not thou with them: refrayne thy fote from their waye. |
| 1:16 | For their fete runne to euell: & are hasty to shed bloud. |
| 1:17 | But in vayn is the net laied forth before the byrdes eyes: |
| 1:18 | yee they them selues laye wayte one for anothers bloud & one of them wold sleye another. |
| 1:19 | These are the wayes of all soch as be couetous, the one wold rauysh anothers lyfe. |
| 1:20 | Wisdome cryeth wtout, & putteth forth her voyce in the stretes. |
| 1:21 | She calleth before the congregacyon in the open gates, & sheweth her wordes thorow the citye, saying: |
| 1:22 | O ye children, how longe wyll ye loue childesshnes? how longe wyll the scorners delyte in scorning, & the vnwyse be enemyes vnto knowledge? |
| 1:23 | O turne you vnto my correccion: lo, I wyll expresse my mynde vnto you, & make you vnderstande my wordes. |
| 1:24 | I haue called, & ye refused it: I haue stretched out my hande: & no man regarded it: |
| 1:25 | but all my councels haue ye despised: & set my correccion at naught. |
| 1:26 | Therfore shall I also laugh in youre destruccion, & mocke you, when that thinge that ye feare commeth vpon you: |
| 1:27 | euen when the thynge that ye be afrayed of, falleth in sodenly lyke a storme, & your misery lyke a tempest: yee, when trouble & heuines commeth vpon you. |
| 1:28 | Then shal they call vpon me, but I wyll not heare: they shall seke me early, but they shall not fynde me. |
| 1:29 | And that because they hated knowledge, & receaued not the feare of the Lorde: |
| 1:30 | but abhorred my councell, and despysed all my correccion. |
| 1:31 | Therfore shall they eate the frutes of theyr awne waye, & be filled with their awne inuencions: |
| 1:32 | for the turnynge awaye of the vnwyse shall sleye them, and the prosperytie of fooles shalbe their awne destruccyon. |
| 1:33 | But whoso harkneth vnto me, shall dwell safely, and be sure from any feare of euyll. |
| 1:1 | The parablis of Salomon, the sone of Dauid, king of Israel; |
| 1:2 | to kunne wisdom and kunnyng; |
| 1:3 | to vndurstonde the wordis of prudence; and to take the lernyng of teching; to take riytfulnesse, and dom, and equyte; |
| 1:4 | that felnesse be youun to litle children, and kunnyng, and vndurstonding to a yong wexynge man. |
| 1:5 | A wise man heringe schal be wisere; and a man vndurstondinge schal holde gouernails. |
| 1:6 | He schal perseyue a parable, and expownyng; the wordis of wise men, and the derk figuratif spechis of hem. |
| 1:7 | The drede of the Lord is the bigynning of wisdom; foolis dispisen wisdom and teching. |
| 1:8 | My sone, here thou the teching of thi fadir, and forsake thou not the lawe of thi modir; |
| 1:9 | that grace be addid, ethir encreessid, to thin heed, and a bie to thi necke. |
| 1:10 | Mi sone, if synneris flateren thee, assente thou not to hem. |
| 1:11 | If thei seien, Come thou with vs, sette we aspies to blood, hide we snaris of disseitis ayens an innocent without cause; |
| 1:12 | swolowe we him, as helle swolowith a man lyuynge; and al hool, as goynge doun in to a lake; we schulen fynde al preciouse catel, |
| 1:13 | we schulen fille oure housis with spuylis; sende thou lot with vs, |
| 1:14 | o purs be of vs alle; |
| 1:15 | my sone, go thou not with hem; forbede thi foot fro the pathis of hem. |
| 1:16 | For the feet of hem rennen to yuel; and thei hasten to schede out blood. |
| 1:17 | But a net is leid in veyn bifore the iyen of briddis, that han wengis. |
| 1:18 | Also `thilke wickid disseyueris setten aspies ayens her owne blood; and maken redi fraudis ayens her soulis. |
| 1:19 | So the pathis of ech auerouse man rauyschen the soulis of hem that welden. |
| 1:20 | Wisdom prechith with outforth; in stretis it yyueth his vois. |
| 1:21 | It crieth ofte in the heed of cumpenyes; in the leeues of yatis of the citee it bringith forth hise wordis, |
| 1:22 | and seith, Hou long, ye litle men in wit, louen yong childhod, and foolis schulen coueyte tho thingis, that ben harmful to hem silf, and vnprudent men schulen hate kunnyng? |
| 1:23 | Be ye conuertid at my repreuyng; lo, Y schal profre forth to you my spirit, and Y schal schewe my wordis. |
| 1:24 | For Y clepide, and ye forsoken; Y helde forth myn hond, and noon was that bihelde. |
| 1:25 | Ye dispisiden al my councel; and chargiden not my blamyngis. |
| 1:26 | And Y schal leiye in youre perisching; and Y schal scorne you, whanne that, that ye dreden, cometh to you. |
| 1:27 | Whanne sodeyne wretchidnesse fallith in, and perisching bifallith as tempest; whanne tribulacioun and angwisch cometh on you. |
| 1:28 | Thanne thei schulen clepe me, and Y schal not here; thei schulen rise eerli, and thei schulen not fynde me. |
| 1:29 | For thei hatiden teching, and thei token not the drede of the Lord, |
| 1:30 | nether assentiden to my councel, and depraueden al myn amendyng. |
| 1:31 | Therfor thei schulen ete the fruytis of her weie; and thei schulen be fillid with her counseils. |
| 1:32 | The turnyng awei of litle men in wit schal sle hem; and the prosperite of foolis schal leese hem. |
| 1:33 | But he that herith me, schal reste with outen drede; and he schal vse abundaunce, whanne the drede of yuels is takun awei. |
| 1:1 | These are the prouerbes of Salomon the sonne of Dauid kynge of Israel: |
| 1:2 | to lerne wy?dome nurtoure, vnderstondinge, prudence, |
| 1:3 | rightuousnesse, iudgment and equite. |
| 1:4 | That the very babes might haue wyt, and that yonge men might haue knowlege and vnderstondinge. |
| 1:5 | By hearinge, the wyse ma shal come by more wysdome: and by experience, |
| 1:6 | he shal be more apte to vnderstonde a parable, and the interpretacion therof: the wordes of the wyse, and the darcke speaches of the same. |
| 1:7 | The feare of the LORDE is the begynnynge of wysdome. But fooles despyse wysdome and nurtoure. |
| 1:8 | My sonne, heare thy fathers doctryne, and forsake not the lawe of yi mother: |
| 1:9 | for that shal brynge grace vnto thy heade, & shalbe a cheyne aboute thy necke. |
| 1:10 | My sonne, cosente not vnto synners, |
| 1:11 | yf they entyse the, and saye: come wyth us, let us laye wayte for bloude, & lurke preuely for the innocet wythout a cause: |
| 1:12 | let us swalowe the vp like ye hell, let us deuoure the quycke and whole, as those that go downe in to the pytt. |
| 1:13 | So shal we fynde all maner of costly riches, and fyll oure houses wyth spoyles. |
| 1:14 | Cast in thy lott amonge us, we shal haue all one purse. |
| 1:15 | My sonne, walke not thou wt them, refrayne yi fote fro their wayes. |
| 1:16 | For their fete rune to euell, & are haistie to shed bloude. |
| 1:17 | But in vayne is ye net layed forth before the byrdes eyes. |
| 1:18 | Yee they the selues laye wayte one for anothers bloude, and one of the wolde slaye another. |
| 1:19 | These are the wayes of all soch as be couetous, that one wolde rauysh anothers life. |
| 1:20 | Wy?dome crieth without, & putteth forth hir voyce in the stretes. |
| 1:21 | She calleth before ye congregacion in ye open gates, and sheweth hir wordes thorow ye cite, sayenge: |
| 1:22 | O ye childre, how loge wil ye loue childyshnesse? how longe wil ye scorners delyte in scornynge, & ye vnwyse be enemies vnto knowlege? |
| 1:23 | O turne you vnto my correccion: lo, I wil expresse my mynde vnto you, and make you vnderstode my wordes. |
| 1:24 | Seinge then that I haue called, and ye refused it: I haue stretched out my honde, and no ma regarded it, |
| 1:25 | but all my coucels haue ye despysed, and set my correccios at naught. |
| 1:26 | Therfore shal I also laugh in yor destruccion, and mocke you, when ye thinge that ye feare cometh vpon you: |
| 1:27 | euen whe ye thinge that ye be afrayed of, falleth in sodenly like a storme, and yor misery like a tempest: yee wha trouble and heuynesse cometh vpon you. |
| 1:28 | Then shal they call vpo me, but I wil not heare: they shal seke me early, but they shal not fynde me: |
| 1:29 | And yt because they hated knowlege, and receaued not ye feare of ye LORDE, |
| 1:30 | but abhorred my councell, and despysed my correccion. |
| 1:31 | Therfore shal they eate ye frutes of their owne waye, and be fylled wt their owne councels: |
| 1:32 | for ye turnynge awaye of ye vnwyse shal slaye the, & ye prosperi of fooles shalbe their owne destruccio. |
| 1:33 | But who so harkeneth vnto me, shal dwell safely, and haue ynough without eny feare of euell. |
