Proverbs - Chapter: 6

>
6:1My sonne yf thou be suertye for thy neyghboure, and hast fastened thyne hand for another man,
6:2thou art bounde wt thyne awne wordes, and taken with thine awne speache.
6:3Therfore, my sonne, do thys & thou shalt be discharged: when thou art come into thy neighbours daunger. Goo thy wayes then soone, humble thy selfe, and with thy frendes intreate thy creditour:
6:4let not thyne eyes slepe, ner thyne eye lyddes slomber.
6:5Saue thy selfe as a doo from the hande of the huntre, & as a byrde from the hande of the fouler.
6:6Go to the Emmet (thou slougard) consydre herwayes, & lerne to be wyse.
6:7She hath no guyde, no ouersear nor ruler:
6:8yet in the Sommer she prouideth her meate, and gathereth her fode to gether in the haruest.
6:9Howe longe wylt thou slepe, thou slougysh man? When wylt thou aryse out of thy slepe?
6:10Yee slepe on styll a lytle, slomber a lytle, foulde thyne handes together yet a lytle, that thou mayest slepe:
6:11so shall pouertye come vnto the as on that trauayleth by the waye, & necessytelke a weapened man.
6:12An vngodly person, a wycked man goeth with a frowarde mouth
6:13he wyncketh with his eyes, he tokeneth with hys fete, he poynteth with hys fyngers,
6:14he is euer ymagenynge myschefe, and frowardnesse in hys herte, & causeth discorde.
6:15Therfore shall hys destruccyon come hastly vpon him, sodenly shall he be all to broken, and not be healed.
6:16These syxe thynges doth the Lord hate, and the seuenth he vtterly abhorreth:
6:17A proude looke a lyinge tonge, handes that shed innocent bloude,
6:18an herte that goeth aboute wyth wycked ymaginacyons fete that be swyfte in rennynge to do myschefe,
6:19a false wytnesse that bringeth vp lyes, and soche one as soweth discorde amonge brethren.
6:20My sonne, kepe thy fathers commaundement, and forsake not the lawe of thy mother.
6:21Put them vp together in thyne herte, and bynde them aboute thy neck.
6:22That they may leade the where thou goest, preserue the when thou art a slepe, and that when thou awakest, thou mayest talke of them.
6:23For the commaundement is a lanterne, and the lawe a lyght: yee chastenyng and nourtoure is the waye of lyfe
6:24that they may kepe the from the euell woman, and from the flatteryng tonge of the harlote:
6:25that thou lust not after her beauty in thyne herte, and lest thou be taken with her fayre lookes.
6:26An harlot wyll make a man to begge his bread, and a woman wyll hunt for the precyous lyfe.
6:27Maye a man take fyre in hys bosome and hys clothes not be brent?
6:28Or can one go vpon hote coales, and hys fete not be hurte?
6:29Euen so, whosoeuer goeth into his neyghbours wyfe, and toucheth her, cannot be vngylty.
6:30Men do not vtterly despyse a thefe that stealeth to satisfye hys soule, when he is hungry:
6:31but yf he maye be gotten, he restoreth agayne seuen tymes as moche, or els he maketh recompense with all the good of hys house.
6:32But whoso committeth aduoutry with a woman, he is a foole and bryngeth his lyfe to destruction.
6:33He getteth hym selfe also shame and dishonour, soche as shall neuer be put out.
6:34For the gelousy and wrath of the man wyll not be intreated,
6:35no though thou woldest offre him great gyftes to make amendes, he will not receaue them.

6:1Mi sone, if thou hast bihiyt for thi freend; thou hast fastned thin hoond at a straunger.
6:2Thou art boundun bi the wordis of thi mouth; and thou art takun with thin owne wordis.
6:3Therfor, my sone, do thou that that Y seie, and delyuere thi silf; for thou hast fallun in to the hond of thi neiybore. Renne thou aboute, haste thou, reise thi freend;
6:4yyue thou not sleep to thin iyen, nether thin iyeliddis nappe.
6:5Be thou rauyschid as a doo fro the hond; and as a bridde fro aspiyngis of the foulere.
6:6O! thou slowe man, go to the `amte, ether pissemyre; and biholde thou hise weies, and lerne thou wisdom.
6:7Which whanne he hath no duyk, nethir comaundour, nether prince;
6:8makith redi in somer mete to hym silf, and gaderith togidere in heruest that, that he schal ete.
6:9Hou long schalt thou, slow man, slepe? whanne schalt thou rise fro thi sleep?
6:10A litil thou schalt slepe, a litil thou schalt nappe; a litil thou schalt ioyne togidere thin hondis, that thou slepe.
6:11And nedynesse, as a weigoere, schal come to thee; and pouert, as an armed man. Forsothe if thou art not slow, thi ripe corn schal come as a welle; and nedynesse schal fle fer fro thee.
6:12A man apostata, a man vnprofitable, he goith with a weiward mouth;
6:13he bekeneth with iyen, he trampith with the foot, he spekith with the fyngur,
6:14bi schrewid herte he ymagyneth yuel, and in al tyme he sowith dissenciouns.
6:15His perdicioun schal come to hym anoon, and he schal be brokun sodeynli; and he schal no more haue medecyn.
6:16Sixe thingis ben, whyche the Lord hatith; and hise soule cursith the seuenthe thing.
6:17Hiye iyen, a tunge liere, hondis schedinge out innocent blood,
6:18an herte ymagynynge worste thouytis, feet swifte to renne in to yuel,
6:19a man bringynge forth lesingis, a fals witnesse; and him that sowith discordis among britheren.
6:20Mi sone, kepe the comaundementis of thi fadir; and forsake not the lawe of thi modir.
6:21Bynde thou tho continueli in thin herte; and cumpasse `to thi throte.
6:22Whanne thou goist, go tho with thee; whanne thou slepist, kepe tho thee; and thou wakynge speke with tho.
6:23For the comaundement of God is a lanterne, and the lawe is liyt, and the blamyng of techyng is the weie of lijf;
6:24`that the comaundementis kepe thee fro an yuel womman, and fro a flaterynge tunge of a straunge womman.
6:25Thin herte coueite not the fairnesse of hir; nether be thou takun bi the signes of hir.
6:26For the prijs of an hoore is vnnethe of o loof; but a womman takith the preciouse soule of a man.
6:27Whether a man mai hide fier in his bosum, that hise clothis brenne not;
6:28ethir go on colis, and hise feet be not brent?
6:29So he that entrith to the wijf of his neiybore; schal not be cleene, whanne he hath touchid hir.
6:30It is not greet synne, whanne a man stelith; for he stelith to fille an hungri soule.
6:31And he takun schal yelde the seuenthe fold; and he schal yyue al the catel of his hous, and schal delyuere hym silf.
6:32But he that is avouter; schal leese his soule, for the pouert of herte.
6:33He gaderith filthe, and sclaundrith to hym silf; and his schenschip schal not be don awei.
6:34For the feruent loue and strong veniaunce of the man schal not spare in the dai of veniaunce,
6:35nether schal assente to the preieris of ony; nether schal take ful many yiftis for raunsum.

6:1My sone, yf thou be suertie for yi neghboure, thou hast fastened thine hode wt another ma:
6:2yee thou art boude with thine owne wordes, and taken wt thine owne speach.
6:3Therfore (my sonne) do this, discharge thy self, for thou art come i to yi neghbours daunger. Go thy waye then soone, & intreate thy neghboure:
6:4let not thyne eyes slepe, ner thine eye lyddes slomber.
6:5Saue thy self as a doo fro ye honde, & as a byrde fro the hode of the fouler.
6:6Go to the Emmet (thou slogarde) cosidre hir wayes, & lerne to be wyse.
6:7She hath no gyde, no teacher, no leder:
6:8yet in the sommer she prouideth hir meate, & gathereth hir foode together i ye haruest.
6:9How loge wilt thou slepe, thou slogish ma? Wha wilt thou aryse out of thy slepe?
6:10Yee slepe on still a litle, slober a litle, folde thine handes together yet a litle, that thou mayest slepe:
6:11so shal pouerte come vnto the as one yt trauayleth by the waye, & necessite like a wapened man.
6:12A dissemblynge person, a wicked man goeth with a frowarde mouth:
6:13he wyncketh with his eyes, he tokeneth wt his fete, he poynteth wt his fyngers,
6:14he is euer ymageninge myschefe & frowardnesse in his hert, & causeth discorde.
6:15Therfore shal his destruccion come hastely vpo him, sodenly shal he be all tobroken, and not be healed.
6:16There be sixe thinges, which the LORDE hateth, & the seuenth he vtterly abhorreth:
6:17A proude loke, a dyssemblynge tonge, hades that shed innocent bloude,
6:18an herte yt goeth aboute wt wicked ymaginacios, fete that be swift in rennynge to do myschefe,
6:19a false wytnesse yt bringeth vp lyes, & soch one as soweth discorde amonge brethren.
6:20My sonne, kepe thy fathers comaundemetes, & forsake not ye lawe of thy mother.
6:21Put the vp together in thine herte, and bynde the aboute thy necke.
6:22That they maye lede the where thou goest, preserue the when thou art aslepe, & yt when thou awakest, thou mayest talke of the
6:23(For the commaundement is a lanterne, and the lawe a light: yee chastenynge & nurtoure is ye waye of life)
6:24that they maye kepe the fro the euell woman, & from the flaterynge tonge of the harlott:
6:25yt thou lust not after her beuty in thine herte, & lest thou be take wt hir fayre lokes.
6:26An harlot wil make a ma to begg his bred, but a maried woman wil hunt for ye precious life.
6:27Maye a man take fyre in his bosome, and his clothes not be brent?
6:28Or can one go vpon hote coales, and his fete not be hurte?
6:29Euen so, who so euer goeth in to his neghbours wife, and toucheth her, can not be vngiltie.
6:30Men do not vtterly despyse a thefe, that stealeth to satisfie his soule, when he is hongerie:
6:31but yf he maye be gotten, he restoreth agayne seuen tymes asmoch, or els he maketh recompence with all the good of his house.
6:32But who so comitteth aduoutrie with a woma, he is a foole, and bryngeth his life to destruccion.
6:33He getteth him self also shame & dishonor, soch as shal neuer be put out.
6:34For the gelousy & wrath of the ma will not be itreated,
6:35no though thou woldest ofre him greate giftes to make amendes, he will not receaue them.
