Proverbs - Chapter: 9

9:1Wysdome hath buylded her selfe an house, & hewen out seuen pyllers:
9:2she hath kylled her vitayles, powred out her wyne, & prepared her table.
9:3She hath sent forth her maydens to crye vpon the hyest place of the cytie:
9:4Who so is ignoraunt, let hym come hyther. And to the vnwyse she sayde:
9:5O come on your waye, eate my bread, and drincke my wyne, which I haue poured out for you.
9:6Forsake ignoraunce, and ye shall lyue: and se that ye go in the waye of vnderstandynge.
9:7Who so reproueth a scornefull personne, getteth him selfe dishonoure: and he that rebuketh the vngodly, stayneth him selfe.
9:8Reproue not a scorner lest he owe the euell wyll: but rebuke a wyse man, and he wyll loue the.
9:9Geue a discrete man but an occasyon, and he wylbe the wyser: teache a ryghteous man, and he wyll increase in knowledge.
9:10The feare of the Lorde is the beginnynge of wysdome, & the knowledge of holy thynges is vnderstandynge.
9:11For thorowe me thy dayes shalbe prolonged, and the yeares of thy lyfe shalbe many.
9:12If thou be wyse, thy wisdome shall do thy selfe good but yf thou thynkest scorne therof, it shalbe thyne awne harme.
9:13A folyshe restlesse woman, full of wordes, and soch a one as hath no knowledge,
9:14sytteth at the dore of her house, and in the hye places of the cyte,
9:15to call soch as go by, and that walke streyght in theyr wayes.
9:16Who so is ignoraunt (sayth she) let hym come hyther, and to the vnwyse she sayeth:
9:17stollen waters are swete, and the bread that is preuely eaten, hath a good taste.
9:18And he doth not consydre, that they are but deed which be there, and that her gestes are in the depe of hell.

9:2he offride his slayn sacrifices, he medlide wijn, and settide forth his table.
9:3He sente hise handmaides, that thei schulden clepe to the tour; and to the wallis of the citee.
9:4If ony man is litil; come he to me. And wisdom spak to vnwise men,
9:5Come ye, ete ye my breed; and drynke ye the wiyn, which Y haue medlid to you.
9:6Forsake ye yong childhed, and lyue ye; and go ye bi the weyes of prudence.
9:7He that techith a scornere, doith wrong to him silf; and he that vndirnymmeth a wickid man, gendrith a wem to him silf.
9:8Nile thou vndirnyme a scornere; lest he hate thee. Vndirnyme thou a wise man; and he schal loue thee.
9:9Yyue thou occasioun to a wise man; and wisdom schal be encreessid to hym. Teche thou a iust man; and he schal haste to take.
9:10The bigynnyng of wisdom is the dreed of the Lord; and prudence is the kunnyng of seyntis.
9:11For thi daies schulen be multiplied bi me; and yeeris of lijf schulen be encreessid to thee.
9:12If thou art wijs; thou schalt be to thi silf, and to thi neiyboris. Forsothe if thou art a scornere; thou aloone schalt bere yuel.
9:13A fonned womman, and ful of cry, and ful of vnleueful lustis, and that kan no thing outirli,
9:14sittith in the doris of hir hous, on a seete, in an hiy place of the cite;
9:15to clepe men passinge bi the weie, and men goynge in her iournei.
9:16Who is a litil man `of wit; bowe he to me. And sche spak to a coward,
9:17Watris of thefte ben swettere, and breed hid is swettere.
9:18And wiste not that giauntis ben there; and the gestis `of hir ben in the depthis of helle. Sotheli he that schal be applied, ether fastned, to hir; schal go doun to hellis. For whi he that goith awei fro hir; schal be saued.

9:12Yf thou be wyse, yi wysdome shal do yi selfe good: but yf thou thynkest scorne therof, it shalbe thine owne harme.
9:13A foolish restlesse woman, full of wordes, and soch one as hath no knowlege,
9:14sytteth in the dores of hir house vpo a stole aboue in the cite,
9:15to call soch as go by and walke straight in their wayes.
9:16Who so is ignoraunt (sayeth she) let him come hither, and to the vnwyse she sayeth:
9:17stollen waters are swete, & the bred that is preuely eaten, hath a good taist.
9:18But they cosider not that death is there, and that hir gestes go downe to hell.
