Proverbs - Chapter: 26


26:1	As snow in summer, and as rain in harvest, so honour is not seemly for a fool.
26:2	As the bird by wandering, as the swallow by flying, so the curse causeless shall not come.
26:3	A whip for the horse, a bridle for the ass, and a rod for the fool's back.
26:4	Answer not a fool according to his folly, lest thou also be like unto him.
26:5	Answer a fool according to his folly, lest he be wise in his own conceit.
26:6	He that sendeth a message by the hand of a fool cutteth off the feet, and drinketh damage.
26:7	The legs of the lame are not equal: so is a parable in the mouth of fools.
26:8	As he that bindeth a stone in a sling, so is he that giveth honour to a fool.
26:9	As a thorn goeth up into the hand of a drunkard, so is a parable in the mouth of fools.
26:10	The great God that formed all things both rewardeth the fool, and rewardeth transgressors.
26:11	As a dog returneth to his vomit, so a fool returneth to his folly.
26:12	Seest thou a man wise in his own conceit? there is more hope of a fool than of him.
26:13	The slothful man saith, There is a lion in the way; a lion is in the streets.
26:14	As the door turneth upon his hinges, so doth the slothful upon his bed.
26:15	The slothful hideth his hand in his bosom; it grieveth him to bring it again to his mouth.
26:16	The sluggard is wiser in his own conceit than seven men that can render a reason.
26:17	He that passeth by, and meddleth with strife belonging not to him, is like one that taketh a dog by the ears.
26:18	As a mad man who casteth firebrands, arrows, and death,
26:19	So is the man that deceiveth his neighbour, and saith, Am not I in sport?
26:20	Where no wood is, there the fire goeth out: so where there is no talebearer, the strife ceaseth.
26:21	As coals are to burning coals, and wood to fire; so is a contentious man to kindle strife.
26:22	The words of a talebearer are as wounds, and they go down into the innermost parts of the belly.
26:23	Burning lips and a wicked heart are like a potsherd covered with silver dross.
26:24	He that hateth dissembleth with his lips, and layeth up deceit within him;
26:25	When he speaketh fair, believe him not: for there are seven abominations in his heart.
26:26	Whose hatred is covered by deceit, his wickedness shall be shewed before the whole congregation.
26:27	Whoso diggeth a pit shall fall therein: and he that rolleth a stone, it will return upon him.
26:28	A lying tongue hateth those that are afflicted by it; and a flattering mouth worketh ruin.


26:1	כשׁלג בקיץ וכמטר בקציר כן לא נאוה לכסיל כבוד׃
26:2	כצפור לנוד כדרור לעוף כן קללת חנם לא תבא׃
26:3	שׁוט לסוס מתג לחמור ושׁבט לגו כסילים׃
26:4	אל תען כסיל כאולתו פן תשׁוה לו גם אתה׃
26:5	ענה כסיל כאולתו פן יהיה חכם בעיניו׃
26:6	מקצה רגלים חמס שׁתה שׁלח דברים ביד כסיל׃
26:7	דליו שׁקים מפסח ומשׁל בפי כסילים׃
26:8	כצרור אבן במרגמה כן נותן לכסיל כבוד׃
26:9	חוח עלה ביד שׁכור ומשׁל בפי כסילים׃
26:10	רב מחולל כל ושׂכר כסיל ושׂכר עברים׃
26:11	ככלב שׁב על קאו כסיל שׁונה באולתו׃
26:12	ראית אישׁ חכם בעיניו תקוה לכסיל ממנו׃
26:13	אמר עצל שׁחל בדרך ארי בין הרחבות׃
26:14	הדלת תסוב על צירה ועצל על מטתו׃
26:15	טמן עצל ידו בצלחת נלאה להשׁיבה אל פיו׃
26:16	חכם עצל בעיניו משׁבעה משׁיבי טעם׃
26:17	מחזיק באזני כלב עבר מתעבר על ריב לא׃
26:18	כמתלהלה הירה זקים חצים ומות׃
26:19	כן אישׁ רמה את רעהו ואמר הלא משׂחק אני׃
26:20	באפס עצים תכבה אשׁ ובאין נרגן ישׁתק מדון׃
26:21	פחם לגחלים ועצים לאשׁ ואישׁ מדונים לחרחר ריב׃
26:22	דברי נרגן כמתלהמים והם ירדו חדרי בטן׃
26:23	כסף סיגים מצפה על חרשׂ שׂפתים דלקים ולב רע׃
26:24	בשׂפתו ינכר שׂונא ובקרבו ישׁית מרמה׃
26:25	כי יחנן קולו אל תאמן בו כי שׁבע תועבות בלבו׃
26:26	תכסה שׂנאה במשׁאון תגלה רעתו בקהל׃
26:27	כרה שׁחת בה יפל וגלל אבן אליו תשׁוב׃
26:28	לשׁון שׁקר ישׂנא דכיו ופה חלק יעשׂה מדחה׃

26:2	As a bird by wandering, as a swallow by flying, So reviling without cause doth not come.
26:3	A whip is for a horse, a bridle for an ass, And a rod for the back of fools.
26:4	Answer not a fool according to his folly, Lest thou be like to him -- even thou.
26:5	Answer a fool according to his folly, Lest he be wise in his own eyes.
26:6	He is cutting off feet, he is drinking injury, Who is sending things by the hand of a fool.
26:7	Weak have been the two legs of the lame, And a parable in the mouth of fools.
26:8	As one who is binding a stone in a sling, So `is' he who is giving honour to a fool.
26:9	A thorn hath gone up into the hand of a drunkard, And a parable in the mouth of fools.
26:10	Great `is' the Former of all, And He is rewarding a fool, And is rewarding transgressors.
26:11	As a dog hath returned to its vomit, A fool is repeating his folly.
26:12	Thou hast seen a man wise in his own eyes, More hope of a fool than of him!
26:13	The slothful hath said, `A lion `is' in the way, A lion `is' in the broad places.'
26:14	The door turneth round on its hinge, And the slothful on his bed.
26:15	The slothful hath hid his hand in a dish, He is weary of bringing it back to his mouth.
26:16	Wiser `is' the slothful in his own eyes, Than seven `men' returning a reason.
26:17	Laying hold on the ears of a dog, `Is' a passer-by making himself wrath for strife not his own.
26:18	As `one' pretending to be feeble, Who is casting sparks, arrows, and death,
26:19	So hath a man deceived his neighbour, And hath said, `Am not I playing?'
26:20	Without wood is fire going out, And without a tale-bearer, contention ceaseth,
26:21	Coal to burning coals, and wood to fire, And a man of contentions to kindle strife.
26:22	The words of a tale-bearer `are' as self-inflicted wounds, And they have gone down `to' the inner parts of the heart.
26:23	Silver of dross spread over potsherd, `Are' burning lips and an evil heart.
26:24	By his lips doth a hater dissemble, And in his heart he placeth deceit,
26:25	When his voice is gracious trust not in him, For seven abominations `are' in his heart.
26:26	Hatred is covered by deceit, Revealed is its wickedness in an assembly.
26:27	Whoso is digging a pit falleth into it, And the roller of a stone, to him it turneth.
26:28	A lying tongue hateth its bruised ones, And a flattering mouth worketh an overthrow!
