Isaiah - Chapter: 3

>
3:1For lo, the Lorde God of Hostes doth take awaye from Ierusalem and Iuda, all possessions & power al meat and dryncke,
3:2the captayne and the soudyar, the iudge and prophete, the wyse and the aged man,
3:3the prince of fyftie yeare olde, and the honorable: the Senatours, and men of vnderstandynge: the master of craftes and oratours.
3:4And I shall geue them children to be theyr princes, & babes shall haue the rule of you.
3:5The people also shalbe pylled and polled, and one shall euer be doynge violence and wronge to another. The boye shall presume agaynst the elder, and the vyle persone agaynst the honorable.
3:6Yee, one shall take a frende of hys awne kynred by the bosome, and saye: thou hast clothynge, thou shalt be our head, for thou mayest kepe vs from thys fall & parell.
3:7Then shall he sweare & saye I cannot helpe you. Moreouer, there is nether meate ner clothyng in my house, make me no ruler of the people.
3:8For Ierusalem is ouerthrowne & Iuda must fall to the grownde, because that both theyr wordes & councels are agaynst the Lorde, to prouoke the presence of hys magesty vnto anger.
3:9The chaungynge of theyr countenaunce bewrayeth them, yee, they declare theyr awne synnes, them selues, as the Sodomites, & hyde them not. Wo be vnto theyr soules for they haue retourned euyll vnto them selues.
3:10Byd the ryghteous do well, for they shall enioye the frutes of theyr studies.
3:11But wo be to the vngodly and vnryghteous, for they shalbe rewarded after theyr worckes.
3:12Children are extorcioners of my people, and wemen haue rule of them. O my people, those that call the blessed deceaue the, and depraue the waye of thy fotesteppes.
3:13The Lorde is rysen vp to commen of the matter, and standeth vp (I saye) to geue iudgement of the people.
3:14The Lorde shall come forth to reason with the Senatours and prynces of hys people. It is ye that haue burnt vp my vyneyarde, the extorcyon done to the poore is in your houses.
3:15Wherfore do ye oppresse my people, & marre the faces of the poore? sayeth the Lorde God of hostes.
3:16Moreouer, thus sayth the lord: Seing the daughters of Sion are be come so proude, and come in wt stretched out neckes and with vayne wanton eyes: seynge they come in tryppyng so nycely with theyr fete:
3:17Therfore shall the Lorde shaue the heades of the daughters of Sion, and shal discouer theyr shame.
3:18In that daye shall the Lord take awaye the gorgiousnes of theyr apparell, and spanges, cheynes, partelettes,
3:19and colarres, bracelettes and hooues,
3:20the goodly floured, wyde and brodered rayment, brooches, and headbandes,
3:21rynges and garlandes,
3:22holy daye clothes and vales, kerchefes and pinnes,
3:23glasses and cypresses, bonettes and taches.
3:24And in steade of good smell, there shalbe stynck amonge them. And for theyr gyrdles there shalbe lowse bandes. And for well sett heare there shalbe baldenesse. In steade of a stomacher, a sack cloth, and for theyr bewty witherdnesse, and sonne burnyng.
3:25Youre housbandes and myghtie men shall perysh with the swerde in batayle.
3:26At that tyme shal theyr gates mourne and complayne, and they shall sytt as desolate folck vpon the earth.

 

3:1For lo! the lordli gouernour, the Lord of oostis, schal take awei fro Jerusalem and fro Juda a myyti man, and strong, and al the strengthe of breed, and al the strengthe of watir;
3:2a strong man, and a man a werriour, and a domesman, and a profete, and a false dyuynour in auteris, and an elde man,
3:3a prince ouer fifti men, and a worschipful man in cheer, and a counselour, and a wijs man of principal crafti men, and a prudent man of mystik, ethir goostli, speche.
3:4And Y schal yyue children the princes of hem, and men of wymmens condiciouns schulen be lordis of hem.
3:5And the puple schal falle doun, a man to a man, ech man to his neiybore; a child schal make noyse ayens an eld man, and an vnnoble man ayens a noble man.
3:6For a man schal take his brother, the meneal of his fadir, and schal seie, A clooth is to thee, be thou oure prince; forsothe this fallyng be vndur thin hond.
3:7And he schal answere in that dai, and seie, Y am no leche, and nether breed, nether cloth is in myn hous; nyle ye make me prince of the puple.
3:8For whi Jerusalem felle doun, and Juda felle doun togidere; for the tunge of hem, and the fyndingis of hem weren ayens the Lord, for to terre to wraththe the iyen of his mageste.
3:9The knowyng of her cheer schal answere to hem; and thei prechiden her synne, as Sodom dide, and hidden not. Wo to the soule of hem, for whi yuels ben yoldun to hem.
3:10Seie ye to the iust man, that it schal be to hym wel; for he schal ete the fruyt of hise fyndyngis.
3:11Wo to the wickid man in to yuel; for whi the yeldyng of hise hondis schal be maad to hym.
3:12The wrongful axeris of my puple robbiden it, and wymmen weren lordis therof. Mi puple, thei that seien thee blessid, disseyuen thee, and distrien the weie of thi steppis.
3:13The Lord stondith for to deme, and `the Lord stondith for to deme puplis;
3:14the Lord schal come to doom, with the eldere men of his puple, and with hise princes; for ye han wastid my vyner, and the raueyn of a pore man is in youre hous.
3:15Whi al to-breken ye my puple, and grynden togidere the faces of pore men? seith the Lord God of oostis.
3:16And the Lord God seide, For that that the douytris of Syon weren reisid, and yeden with a necke stretchid forth, and yeden bi signes of iyen, and flappiden with hondis, and yeden, and with her feet yeden in wel araied goyng,
3:17the Lord schal make ballyd the nol of the douytris of Sion, and the Lord schal make nakid the heer of hem.
3:18In that dai the Lord schal take awei the ournement of schoon, and goldun litle bellis lijk the moone,
3:19and ribans, and brochis, and ournementis of armes nyy the schuldris, and mytris, ether chapelettis,
3:20and coombis, and ournementis of armes niy the hondis, and goldun ourenementis lijk laumpreis, and litil vessels of oynementis,
3:21and eere ryngis, and ryngis, and preciouse stoonys hangynge in the forheed,
3:22and chaungynge clothis, and mentils, and schetis, ether smockis, and needlis,
3:23and myrouris, and smal lynun clothis aboute the schuldris, and kercheues, and roketis.
3:24And stynk shal be for swete odour, and a corde for the girdil; ballidnesse schal be for crispe heer, and an heire for a brest girdil.
3:25Also thi faireste men schulen falle bi swerd, and thi stronge men schulen falle in batel.
3:26And the yatis therof schulen weile, and morene; and it schal sitte desolat in erthe.

3:4And I shal geue you children to be youre prynces (saieth the LORDE) and babes shall haue the rule of you.
3:5One shall euer be doinge violence and wronge to another. The boye shal presume agaynst the elder, and the vyle persone agaynst the honorable.
3:6Yee one shal take a frende of his owne kynred by ye bosome, and saye: thou hast clothinge, thou shalt be oure heade, for thou mayest kepe us from this fall and parell.
3:7Then shall he sweare and saye: I can not helpe you. Morouer, there is nether meate ner clothinge in my house, make me no rueler of the people.
3:8For Ierusalem and Iuda must decaye, because that both their wordes and councels are agaynst the LORDE, they prouoke the presence of his magesty vnto anger.
3:9The chaunginge of their countenaunce bewrayeth them, yee they declare their owne synnes them selues, as the Sodomites, & hyde the not. Wo be vnto their soules, for they shalbe heuely rewarded.
3:10Then shal they saye: O happie are the godly, for they maye enioye the frutes of their studies.
3:11But wo be to ye vngodly and vnrightuous for they shalbe rewarded after their workes.
3:12O my people, rybaudes oppresse ye, and women haue rule of the. O my people, thy leders deceaue the, and treade out the waye of thy footsteppes.
3:13The LORDE is here to comon of the matter, and stondeth to geue iudgment with the people.
3:14The LORDE shal come forth to reason with the Senatours and prynces of his people, and shal saye thus vnto them: It is ye that haue burnt vp my vynyearde, the robbery of the poore is in youre house.
3:15Wherfore do ye oppresse my people, and marre ye faces of the innocentes? thus shal the God of hoostes reuyle them.
3:16Morouer thus saieth ye LORDE: Seinge the doughters of Sion are become so proude, and come in with stretched out neckes, and with vayne wanton eyes: seinge they come in trippinge so nycely with their fete:
3:17Therfore shal the LORDE shaue the heades of the doughters of Sion, and make their bewtie bare in that daye.
3:18In that daye shal the LORDE take awaye the gorgiousnes of their apparel, and spanges, cheynes, partlettes,
3:19and colares, bracelettes and hooues,
3:20ye goodly floured, wyde and broderd raymet, brusshes and headbandes,
3:21rynges and garlades,
3:22holy daye clothes and vales, kerchues and pynnes,
3:23glasses and smockes, bonettes and taches.
3:24And in steade of good smell there shalbe stynck amonge them. And for their gyrdles there shalbe lowse bondes. And for wellset hayre there shalbe baldnesse. In steade of a stomacher, a sack cloth, and for their bewty wythrednesse and sonneburnynge.
3:25Their husbondes and their mightie men shall perish with the swerde in batell.
3:26At that tyme shall their gates mourne and complayne, and they shal syt as desolate folck vpon the earth.
