| 10:1 | Wo be vnto them that make vnryghteous lawes, & deuyse thinges, which be to harde for to kepe: |
| 10:2 | wher thorow the poore are oppressed, on euery syde, and the innocentes of my people robbed of iudgement: that wyddowes maye be theyr praye, and that they maye robbe the fatherlesse. |
| 10:3 | What will ye do in tyme of the visitacyon, and whan destruccion shall come from farre? To whom wyll ye ronne for helpe? and to whom wyll ye geue youre honoure, that he maye kepe it? |
| 10:4 | that when I with drawe my hande ye come not amonge the presoners, or lye amonge the deed? After all this doth not the wrath of the Lord ceasse, but yet is his hande stretched out styll. |
| 10:5 | Wo be also vnto Assur, which is a staf of my wrath, in whose hande is the rod of my punyshement. |
| 10:6 | I shall sende hym amonge those ypocritish people, amonge the people that haue deserued my dysfauoures shall I send hym: that he may vtterly robbe them, spoyle them, and treade them downe lyke the myre in the strete. |
| 10:7 | Howbeit, his meanyng is not so nether thynketh his hert of thys fasshyon. But he ymagineth onely, how he may rote out and destroye moch people, |
| 10:8 | for he sayeth are not my Prynces all Kynges? |
| 10:9 | Is not Calno as easye to wynne, as Charchamis? Is it harder to conquere Hamath then Arphad? Or is it lyghter to ouercome Damascus then Samaria? |
| 10:10 | As who say: I were able to wynne the Kyngdome of the Idolaters and their goddes: but not Ierusalem & Samaria. |
| 10:11 | Shal I not do vnto Ierusalem & their ymages, as I dyd vnto Samaria and their ydoles? |
| 10:12 | Wherfore the Lord sayeth: Assone as I haue perfourmed my whole worcke vpon the hyll of Syon and Ierusalem, then wyll I vyset the noble and stoute hart of the kynge of Assyria, with hys proude lookes. |
| 10:13 | For he standeth thus in his awne conceate: This do I thorowe the power of myne awne hande, and thorow my wysdome: For I am wyse, I am he that remoue the landes of the people: I robbe their treasures: and (lyke one of the worthyes) I dryue them from their hye seates. |
| 10:14 | My hande hath founde out the strength of the people, as it were a nest. And lyke as egges, that were layde here and there, are gathered together: So do I gather all countrees. And there is no man, that darre be so bolde, as to touch a fether, that darre open his mouth, or once whysper. |
| 10:15 | Shall the axe boast it selfe, agaynst him that heweth therwith? or doth the sawe make eny bragging agaynst him that ruleth it? That were euen lyke, as yf the rod dyd exalte it selfe agaynst him that beareth it: or as though the staff shulde magnifye it selfe, as who saye: it were no wood. |
| 10:16 | Therfore shal the Lord of hostes send him amonge his fatlinges leanes, & burne vp his glory, as it were wt a fyre. |
| 10:17 | But the lyght of Israel shalbe that fyre, and his Sanctuary shalbe the flamme and it shall kyndle, and burne vp his thornes and breers in one daye, |
| 10:18 | yee all the glory of his woddes and feldes shalbe consumed with body & soule: And they shalbe as an hoost of men, whose standerd bearer fayleth. |
| 10:19 | The trees also of hys felde which remayne, shalbe of soch a nombre, that a childe maye tell them. |
| 10:20 | After that daye shall the remnaunt of Israel, & soch as are escaped out of the house of Iacob, seke nomore conforte at him that smote them, but with faythfulnesse & treuth shal they trust vnto the Lord, the holy one of Israel. |
| 10:21 | The remnaunt, euen the Posteryte of Iacob, shall conuerte vnto God the myghty one. |
| 10:22 | For though thy people (O Israel) be as the lande of the see, yet shal the remnaunt of them conuerte in hym. Perfecte is the iudgement of him that floweth in ryghteousnesse, |
| 10:23 | and therfore the Lorde of hostes shall perfectly fulfyll the thynge, that he hath determined in the myddest of the whole worlde |
| 10:24 | Therfore thus sayeth the Lord God of hostes: Thou my people, that dwellest in Syon, be not afrayed, for the kynge of the Assirians: He shal smyte the with a rodd, & shal wagg his staff at the, as the Egypcians dyd some tyme: |
| 10:25 | But soone after, shall my wrath and myne indignacion be fulfylled in the destruccion of them. |
| 10:26 | Moreouer, the Lord of Hostes shall prepare a scourge for him, lyke as was the slaughter of Madian vpon the rock of Oreb. And he shall lyft vp his rodd ouer the see, as he dyd somtyme ouer the Egypcians. |
| 10:27 | Then shall hys burthen be taken from thy shoulders, and his yock from thy neck, yee, the same yock shall be corrupte for very fatnesse. |
| 10:28 | He shall come to Aiath, and go thorow toward Mygron: at Mychmas shall he laye vp his harnesse, |
| 10:29 | and go ouer the foorde. Gybea shall be their restynge place, Rhamah shalbe a frayed, Gybea Saul shall flye awaye. |
| 10:30 | The voyce of the noyes of thy horses (O daughter Gallim) shalbe herde vnto Lays & to Anathoth, which also shalbe in trouble. |
| 10:31 | Madmena shall tremble for reare, but the citesins of Gabin are manly, |
| 10:32 | yet shal he remayne at Nob that daye. After that, shal he lyft vp hys hande agaynst the mount of the daughter Syon, the hyll of Ierusalem. |
| 10:33 | But se, the Lord God of hostes shall take awaye the proude from thence, with feare. He shall hewe downe the proude, & fel the hye mynded. |
| 10:34 | The busshes also of the wood shal he rote out with yron, and Lybanus shall haue a myghtye fall. |
| 10:1 | Wo to them that maken wickid lawis, and thei writynge han wryte vnriytfulnesse, for to oppresse pore men in doom, |
| 10:2 | and to do violence to the cause of meke men of my puple; that widewis schulen be the prey of them, and that thei schulden rauysche fadirles children. |
| 10:3 | What schulen ye do in the dai of visitacioun, and of wretchidnesse comynge fro fer? To whos help schulen ye fle? and where schulen ye leeue youre glorie, |
| 10:4 | that ye be not bowid doun vndur boond, and falle not doun with slayn men? On alle these thingis his strong veniaunce is not turned awei, but yit his hond is stretchid forth. |
| 10:5 | Wo to Assur, he is the yerde and staf of my strong veniaunce; myn indignacioun is in the hond of them. |
| 10:6 | Y schal send hym to a fals folk, and Y schal comaunde to hym ayens the puple of my strong veniaunce; that he take awei the spuylis, and departe prey, and that he sette that puple in to defouling, as the fen of stretis. |
| 10:7 | Forsothe he schal not deme so, and his herte schal not gesse so, but his herte schal be for to al to-breke, and to the sleynge of many folkis. |
| 10:8 | For he schal seie, Whether my princes ben not kyngis to gidere? |
| 10:9 | Whether not as Carcamys, so Calanno; and as Arphat, so Emath? whether not as Damask, so Samarie? |
| 10:10 | As myn hond foond the rewmes of idol, so and the symylacris of hem of Jerusalem and of Samarie. |
| 10:11 | Whether not as Y dide to Samarie, and to the idols therof, so Y schal do to Jerusalem, and to the simylacris therof? |
| 10:12 | And it schal be, whanne the Lord hath fillid alle hise werkis in the hil of Syon and in Jerusalem, Y schal visite on the fruit of the greet doynge herte of the kyng of Assur, and on the glorie of the hiynesse of hise iyen. |
| 10:13 | For he seide, Y haue do in the strengthe of myn honde, and Y haue understonde in my wisdom; and Y haue take awei the endis of peplis, and Y haue robbid the princes of them, and Y as a myyti man haue drawun doun them that saten an hiy. |
| 10:14 | And myn hond foond the strengthe of puplis as a nest, and as eirun ben gaderid togidere that ben forsakun, so Y gaderid togidere al erthe; and noon was that mouyde a fethere, and openyde the mouth, and grutchide. |
| 10:15 | Whether an ax schal haue glorie ayens hym that kittith with it? ether a sawe schal be enhaunsid ayens hym of whom it is drawun? as if a yerde is reisid ayens hym that reisith it, and a staf is enhaunsid, which sotheli is a tre. |
| 10:16 | For this thing the lordli gouernour, Lord of oostis, schal sende thinnesse in the fatte men of hym, and his glorie kyndlid vndur schal brenne as `the brenning of fier. |
| 10:17 | And the liyt of Israel schal be in fier, and the hooli of it in flawme; and the thorn of him and brere schal be kyndlid and deuourid in o dai. |
| 10:18 | And the glorie of his forest and of his Carmele schal be wastid, fro the soule `til to fleisch; and he schal be fleynge awei for drede. |
| 10:19 | And the relifs of the tree of his forest schulen be noumbrid for fewnesse, and a child schal write hem. |
| 10:20 | And it schal be in that dai, the remenaunt of Israel, and thei that fledden of the house of Jacob, schal not adde for to triste on hym that smytith hem; but it schal triste on the hooli Lord of Israel, in treuthe. |
| 10:21 | The relifs, Y seie, the relifs of Jacob, schulen be conuertid to the stronge Lord. |
| 10:22 | Forwhi, Israel, if thi puple is as the grauel of the see, the relifs schulen be turned therof; an endyng maad schort schal make riytfulnesse to be plenteuouse. |
| 10:23 | For whi the Lord God of oostis schal make an endyng and a breggyng in the myddis of al erthe. |
| 10:24 | For this thing the Lord God of oostis seith these thingis, My puple, the dwellere of Sion, nyle thou drede of Assur, for he schal smite thee in a yerde, and he schal reise his staf on thee in the weie of Egipt. |
| 10:25 | Forwhi yit a litil, and a litil, and myn indignacioun and my strong veniaunce schal be endid on the greet trespas of hem. |
| 10:26 | And the Lord of oostis schal reise a scourge on hym bi the veniaunce of Madian in the stoon of Oreb, and bi his yerde on the see; and he schal reise that yerde in the wei of Egipt. |
| 10:27 | And it schal be in that dai, his birthun schal be takun awei fro thi schuldre, and his yok fro thi necke; and the yok schal wexe rotun fro the face of oile. |
| 10:28 | He schal come in to Aioth, he schal passe in to Magron, at Magynas he schal bitake his vessels to kepyng. |
| 10:29 | Thei passiden swiftli, Gabaa is oure seete, Rama was astonyed, Gabaa of Saul fled. |
| 10:30 | Thou douytir of Gallym, weile with thi vois; thou Laisa, perseyue, thou pore Anatot. |
| 10:31 | Medemena passide; the dwelleris of Gabyn fledden; be ye coumfortid. |
| 10:32 | Yit it is dai, that me stonde in Nobe; he schal dryue his hond on the hil of the douyter of Syon, on the litil hil of Jerusalem. |
| 10:33 | Lo! the lordli gouernour, the Lord of oostis, schal breke a potel in drede, and hiy men of stature schulen be kit doun. |
| 10:34 | And proude men schulen be maade low, and the thicke thingis of the forest schulen be distried bi irun; and the Liban with hiy thingis schal falle doun. |
| 10:1 | Wo be vnto you yt make vnrightuous lawes, and devyse thinges, which be to harde for to kepe: |
| 10:2 | wherthorow the poore are oppressed, on euery syde, and the innocetes of my people are there with robbed of iudgment: that wyddowes maye be youre praye, and that ye maye robbe the fatherlesse. |
| 10:3 | What will ye do in tyme of the visitacion and destruction, that shal come from farre? To whom will ye renne for helpe? or to whom will ye geue youre honoure, that he maye kepe it? |
| 10:4 | that ye come not amonge the presoners, or lye amonge the deed? After all this shal not the wrath of the LORDE ceasse, but yet shal his honde be stretched out still. |
| 10:5 | Wo be also vnto Assur, which is a staff of my wrath, in whose honde is the rod of my punyshment. |
| 10:6 | For I shal sende him amonge those ypocritish poeple, amonge the people that haue deserued my disfauoure shal I send him: that he maye utterly robbe them, spoyle them, and treade them downe like the myre in the strete. |
| 10:7 | Howbeit his meanynge is not so, nether thinketh his harte of this fashion. But he ymagineth only, how he maye ouerthrowe and destroye moch people, |
| 10:8 | for he saieth: are not my princes all kynges? |
| 10:9 | Is not Calno as easie to wynne, as Charchamis? Is it harder to conquere Antiochia then Arphad? Or is it lighter to ouercome Damascus the Samaria? |
| 10:10 | As who say: I were able to wynne the kingdome of the Idolaters and their goddes, but not Ierusalem and Samaria. |
| 10:11 | Shal I not do vnto Ierusalem and their ymages, as I dyd vnto Samaria and their ymages? |
| 10:12 | Wherfore the LORDE saieth: As soone as I haue perfourmed my whole worcke vpon the Hyl of Syon and Ierusalem: the will I also vyset the noble and stoute kynge of Assiria, with his wysdome and pryde. |
| 10:13 | For he stondeth thus in his owne coceate: This do I, thorow the power of myne owne honde, and thorow my wisdome: For I am wyse, I am he that remoue the londes of the people, I robbe their prynces: and (like one of the worthies) I dryue them from their hie seates. |
| 10:14 | My honde hath founde out the hoostes of the people, as it were a nest. And like as egges, that were layde here and there, are gathered together: So do I gather all countrees. And there is no man, yt darre be so bolde, as to touch a fether, that darre open his mouth, or once whisper. |
| 10:15 | But doth the axe boost itself, agaynst him yt heweth therwith, or doth the sawe make eny krakinge, agaynst him that ruleth it? That were euen like, as yf the rod dyd exalte it self agaynst him, that beareth it: or as though ye staff shulde magnifie it self, as who saye: it were no wodd. |
| 10:16 | Therfore shal the LORDE of hoostes sende him pouerte in his riches, and burne vp his power, as it were with a fyre. |
| 10:17 | But the light of Israel shalbe yt fyre, and his Sanctuary shalbe the flame, and it shal kyndle, and burne vp his thornes and breyers in one daye, |
| 10:18 | yee all the glory of his woddes and feldes shalbe consumed with body and soule. As for him self, he shalbe as one chased awaye. |
| 10:19 | The trees also of his felde shalbe of soch a nombre, that a childe maye tell them. |
| 10:20 | After yt daye shal the remnaunt of Israel, and soch as are escaped out of the house of Iacob, seke no more coforte at him that smote them, but shal conforte them selues with faithfulnesse and treuth in the LORDE, the holy, one of Israel. |
| 10:21 | The remnaunt, yee and the Posteryte of Iacob, shal couerte vnto God the mighty one |
| 10:22 | For though thy people (o Israel) be as the sonde of the see, yet shal but the remnaunt of them only conuerte vnto him. Perfecte is the iudgmet of him that floweth in rightuousnesse: |
| 10:23 | and therfore ye LORDE of hoostes shal perfectly fulfil the thinge, that he hath determyned in the myddest of the whole worlde. |
| 10:24 | Therfore thus saieth the LORDE God of hoostes: Thou my people, that dwellest in Sion, be not afrayde for the kinge of the Assirians: He shal wagg his staff at the, yee and beate the with the rodd, as the Egiptias dyd sometyme: |
| 10:25 | But soone after, shal my wrath and my indignacion be fulfylled agaynst their blasphemies. |
| 10:26 | Morouer the LORDE of hoostes shal prepare a scourge for him, like as was the punyshmet of Madia vpo ye mount of Oreb. And he shal lift vp his rod ouer the see, as he dyd somtyme ouer the Egiptians. |
| 10:27 | Then shal his burthen be taken from thy shulders, and his yock from thy neck, yee the same yock shal corrupte for very fatnesse. |
| 10:28 | He shal come to Aiath, and go thorow toward Migron. But at Machnias shal he muster his hooste, |
| 10:29 | and go ouer ye foorde. Gaba shalbe their restinge place, Rhama shalbe afrayde, Gabea Saul shal fle awaye. |
| 10:30 | The voyce of ye noyse of thy horses (o doughter Gallim) shalbe herde vnto lais and to Anathoth, which also shalbe in trouble. |
| 10:31 | Madmena shal tremble for feare, but the citesyns of Gabim are maly, |
| 10:32 | yet shal he remayne at Nob that daye. After that, shal he lift vp his honde agaynst the mount Sion, and agaynst the hill of Ierusalem. |
| 10:33 | But se, the LORde God of hoostes shal take awaye the proude from thence, wt feare. He shal hew downe the proude, and fel the hie mynded. |
| 10:34 | The thornes of the wod shal be rooted out wt yron, and Libanus shal haue a mightie fal. |
