Isaiah - Chapter: 9

9:1Euen lyke as in tyme past, it hath bene well sene, that the lande of Zabulon and the lande of Nephtaly (where thorow the see waye goeth ouer Iordane into the lande of Galilee) was at the fyrst in lytle trouble: but afterwarde sore vexed.
9:2The people that walke in darckenes haue sene a greate lyght. As for them that dwell in the lande of the Shadowe of death, vpon them hath the lyght shyned.
9:3Thou hast multyplyed the people, & not increased theyr ioye. They reioyse before the, euen as men make mery in haruest, and as men that haue gotten the victory, when they deale the spoyle.
9:4For thou hast broken the yocke of the peoples burthen: the staff of hys shoulder and the rod of hys oppressoure, as in the dayes of Madian.
9:5And trulie euery batayll that the warryoure accomplissheth, is done wt confused noyse & defylinge ther garmentes wt bloude: But this batayle shall be wt burnynge & consumynge of fyre.
9:6For vnto vs a chylde is borne, & vnto vs a sonne is geuen. Upon hys shoulder doth the kyngdome lye, and he is called wt hys awne name: wonderfull. The geuer of councell, the myghtye God, the euerlasting father, the prince of peace,
9:7he shall make no ende to encrease the kyngdome & peace, & shall syt vpon the seate of Dauid & in his kyngdome, to set vp the same, & to stablish it wt equyte and ryghteousnesse, from hence forth for euermore. Thys shall the gelousy of the Lorde of Hostes brynge to passe.
9:8The Lorde sent a worde into Iacob, the same is come into Israel.
9:9And all the people of Ephraim shall knowe, and they that dwell in Samaria, that can saye with pryde and hye stomackes, on this maner.
9:10The tyle worcke is fallen downe, but we will buylde it wt squared stones. The Molbery tymbre is broken, but we shall sett it vp agayne with Cedre.
9:11Neuertheles, the Lord shall prepare Razin the enemye agaynst them, and so ordre theyr aduersaryes,
9:12that the Sirians shall laye holde vpon them before, and the Philistynes behynde, and so deuoure Israel with open mouth. After all thys is not the wrath of the Lorde ceassed, but yet hys hande stretched oute styll.
9:13For the people turneth not vnto hym that chastyseth them, nether do they seke the Lorde of Hostes.
9:14Therfore hath the Lorde roted oute of Israel both head and tayle, braunche and twigge in one daye.
9:15By the head, is vnderstande the Senatoure and honorable man, and by the tayle the Prophet that preached lyes.
9:16For all they which enfourme the people that they be in a ryght case, soch be disceauers. Soch as men thyncke also to be perfecte among these, are but cast awayes.
9:17Therfore shall the Lorde haue no pleasure in theyr yonge men, nether fauoure theyr fatherlesse & wydowes. For they are all together ypocrytes and wycked, and all theyr mouthes speake foly. After all thys is not the Lordes wrath ceassed, but yet hys hande is stretched out styll.
9:18For vngodlynesse burneth, as a fyre in the bryers and thornes. And as it were out of a fyre in a wood or a rede bush, so ascendeth the smoke of theyr pryde.
9:19For cause of the wrath of the Lorde of Hostes, is the lande full of darckenesse, and the people be consumed, as it were with fyre, no man doth spare his brother,
9:20but he robbyth on the ryght hand: & doth famishe, he eateth on the lefte hande, and he shall not haue ynough. Euery man shall eate the flesh of his awne arme.
9:21Manasses shall eate Ephraim, and Ephraim. Manasses, and they both shall eate Iuda. After all thys is not the Lordes wrath ceassed, but yet is hys hande stretched out styll.

 

9:1In the firste tyme the lond of Zabulon and the lond of Neptalym was releessid; and at the laste the weie of the see biyende Jordan of Galile of hethene men was maad heuy.
9:2The puple that yede in derknessis siy a greet liyt; whanne men dwelliden in the cuntre of schadewe of deth, liyt roos vp to hem.
9:3Thou multipliedist folk, thou magnefiedist not gladnesse; thei schulen be glad bifore thee, as thei that ben glad in heruest, as ouercomeris maken ful out ioie, whanne thei han take a prey, whanne thei departen the spuylis.
9:4For thou hast ouercome the yok of his birthun, and the yerde of his schuldre, and the ceptre of his wrongful axere, as in the day of Madian.
9:5For whi al violent raueyn with noise, and a cloth meddlid with blood schal be in to brennyng, and `schal be the mete of fier.
9:6Forsothe a litil child is borun to vs, and a sone is youun to vs, and prinsehod is maad on his schuldre; and his name schal be clepid Wondurful, A counselour, God, Strong, A fadir of the world to comynge, A prince of pees.
9:7His empire schal be multiplied, and noon ende schal be of his pees; he schal sitte on the seete of Dauid, and on the rewme of hym, that he conferme it, and make stronge in doom and riytfulnesse, fro hennus forth and til in to with outen ende. The feruent loue of the Lord of oostis schal make this.
9:8The Lord sente a word in to Jacob, and it felle in Israel.
9:9And al the puple of Effraym schal wite, and thei that dwellen in Samarie, seiynge in the pride and greetnesse of herte,
9:10Tijl stoonys fellen doun, but we schulen bilde with square stoonys; thei han kit doun sicomoris, but we schulen chaunge cedris.
9:11And the Lord schal reise the enemyes of Rasyn on hym, and he schal turne the enemyes of hym in to noyse;
9:12God schal make Sirie to come fro the eest, and Filisteis fro the west; and with al the mouth thei schulen deuoure Israel. In alle these thingis the stronge veniaunce of the Lord is not turned awei, but yit his hond is stretchid forth;
9:13and the puple is not turned ayen to the Lord smytynge it, and thei souyten not the Lord of oostis.
9:14And the Lord schal leese fro Israel the heed and the tail; crokynge and bischrewynge, ether refreynynge, in o dai.
9:15An elde man and onourable, he is the heed, and a profete techynge a leesyng, he is the tail.
9:16And thei that blessen his puple, schulen be disseyueris, and thei that ben blessid, schulen be cast doun.
9:17For this thing the Lord schal not be glad on the yonge men therof, and he schal not haue merci on the fadirles children and widewis therof; for ech man is an ypocrite and weiward, and ech mouth spak foli. In alle these thingis the stronge veniaunce of hym is not turned awei, but yit his hond is stretchid forth;
9:18and the puple is not turned ayen to the Lord smytynge it. For whi wickidnesse is kyndlid as fier; it schal deuoure the breris and thornes, and it schal be kyndlid in the thickenesse of the forest, and it schal be wlappid togidere in the pride of smoke.
9:19In the wraththe of the Lord of oostis the lond schal be disturblid, and the puple schal be as the mete of fier; a man schal not spare his brothir.
9:20And he schal boowe to the riyt half, and he schal hungre, and he schal ete at the left half, and he schal not be fillid; ech man schal deuoure the fleisch of his arm. Manasses schal deuoure Effraym, and Effraym `schal deuoure Manasses, and thei togidere ayens Juda.
9:21In alle these thingis the strong veniaunce of hym is not turned awei, but yit his hoond is stretchid forth.

9:5Morouer all temerarious and sedicious power (yee where there is but a cote fyled wt bloude) shalbe burnt, and fede the fyre.
9:6For vnto us a childe shalbe borne, and vnto us a sonne shalbe geue. Vpo his shulder shal the kyngdome lye, and he shalbe called wt his owne name: The woderous geuer of councel, the mightie God, the euerlastinge father, the prynce of peace,
9:7he shal make no ende to encrease the kyngdome and peace, and shal syt vpon the seate of Dauid and in his kyngdome, to set vp the same, to stablish it with equyte and rightuousnesse, from thence forth for euermore. This shal the gelousy of the LORDE of hoostes bringe to passe.

9:17Therfore shal the LORDE haue no pleasure in their yonge me, nether fauoure their fatherlesse and wydowes. For thei are altogether ypocrites and wicked, and all their mouthes speake foly. After all this shal not the LORDEs wrath ceasse, but yet his honde shalbe stretched out still.
9:18For the vngodly burne, as a fyre in the bryers and thornes: And as it were out of a fyre in a wod or a redebush, so ascendeth the smoke of their pryde.
9:19For this cause shal ye wrath of the LORDE of hoostes fall vpon the londe, and the people shalbe consumed, as it were with fyre, no man shal spare his brother.
9:20Yf a man do turne him to the right honde, he shal famesh, or to the lefte hande to eat, he shal not haue ynough. Euery man shal eate the flesh of his owne arme:
9:21Manasses shal eate Ephraim, and Ephraim Manasses, and they both shal eate Iuda. After all this shal not the LORDES wrath ceasse, but yet shal his honde be stretched out still.
