Isaiah - Chapter: 23

>
23:1The Burden of Tyre. Howl, ye ships of Tarshish, For it hath been destroyed, Without house, without entrance, From the land of Chittim it was revealed to them.
23:2Be silent, ye inhabitants of the isle, Trader of Zidon, passing the sea, they filled thee.
23:3And in many waters `is' the seed of Sihor, The harvest of the brook `is' her increase, And she is a mart of nations.
23:4Be ashamed, O Zidon; for the sea spake, The strength of the sea, saying: `I have not been pained, nor have I brought forth, Nor have I nourished young men, `nor' brought up virgins.'
23:5As `at' the report of Egypt they are pained, So `at' the report of Tyre.
23:6Pass over to Tarshish, howl, ye inhabitants of the isle,
23:7Is this your exulting one? From the days of old `is' her antiquity, Carry her do her own feet afar off to sojourn.
23:8Who hath counselled this against Tyre, The crowning one, whose traders `are' princes, Her merchants the honoured of earth?'
23:9Jehovah of Hosts hath counselled it, To pollute the excellency of all beauty, To make light all the honoured of earth.
23:10Pass through thy land as a brook, Daughter of Tarshish, there is no more a girdle.
23:11His hand He hath stretched out over the sea, He hath caused kingdoms to tremble, Jehovah hath charged concerning the merchant one, To destroy her strong places.
23:12And He saith, `Thou dost not add any more to exult, O oppressed one, virgin daughter of Zidon, To Chittim arise, pass over, Even there -- there is no rest for thee.'
23:13Lo, the land of the Chaldeans -- this people was not, Asshur founded it for the Ziim, They raised its watch-towers, They lifted up her palaces, -- He hath appointed her for a ruin!
23:14Howl, ye ships of Tarshish, For your strength hath been destroyed.
23:15And it hath come to pass, in that day, That forgotten is Tyre seventy years, According to the days of one king. At the end of seventy years there is to Tyre as the song of the harlot.
23:16Take a harp, go round the city, O forgotten harlot, play well, Multiply song that thou mayest be remembered.
23:17And it hath come to pass, At the end of seventy years Jehovah inspecteth Tyre, And she hath repented of her gift, That she committed fornication With all kingdoms of the earth on the face of the ground.
23:18And her merchandise and her gift have been holy to Jehovah, Not treasured up nor stored, For to those sitting before Jehovah is her merchandise, To eat to satiety, and for a lasting covering!

23:1The burden of Tyre. Howl, ye ships of Tarshish; for it is laid waste, so that there is no house, no entering in: from the land of Chittim it is revealed to them.
23:2Be still, ye inhabitants of the isle; thou whom the merchants of Zidon, that pass over the sea, have replenished.
23:3And by great waters the seed of Sihor, the harvest of the river, is her revenue; and she is a mart of nations.
23:4Be thou ashamed, O Zidon: for the sea hath spoken, even the strength of the sea, saying, I travail not, nor bring forth children, neither do I nourish up young men, nor bring up virgins.
23:5As at the report concerning Egypt, so shall they be sorely pained at the report of Tyre.
23:6Pass ye over to Tarshish; howl, ye inhabitants of the isle.
23:7Is this your joyous city, whose antiquity is of ancient days? her own feet shall carry her afar off to sojourn.
23:8Who hath taken this counsel against Tyre, the crowning city, whose merchants are princes, whose traffickers are the honourable of the earth?
23:9The LORD of hosts hath purposed it, to stain the pride of all glory, and to bring into contempt all the honourable of the earth.
23:10Pass through thy land as a river, O daughter of Tarshish: there is no more strength.
23:11He stretched out his hand over the sea, he shook the kingdoms: the LORD hath given a commandment against the merchant city, to destroy the strong holds thereof.
23:12And he said, Thou shalt no more rejoice, O thou oppressed virgin, daughter of Zidon: arise, pass over to Chittim; there also shalt thou have no rest.
23:13Behold the land of the Chaldeans; this people was not, till the Assyrian founded it for them that dwell in the wilderness: they set up the towers thereof, they raised up the palaces thereof; and he brought it to ruin.
23:14Howl, ye ships of Tarshish: for your strength is laid waste.
23:15And it shall come to pass in that day, that Tyre shall be forgotten seventy years, according to the days of one king: after the end of seventy years shall Tyre sing as an harlot.
23:16Take an harp, go about the city, thou harlot that hast been forgotten; make sweet melody, sing many songs, that thou mayest be remembered.
23:17And it shall come to pass after the end of seventy years, that the LORD will visit Tyre, and she shall turn to her hire, and shall commit fornication with all the kingdoms of the world upon the face of the earth.
23:18And her merchandise and her hire shall be holiness to the LORD: it shall not be treasured nor laid up; for her merchandise shall be for them that dwell before the LORD, to eat sufficiently, and for durable clothing.

23:1The burden of Tyre: Howl, ships of Tarshish! For it is ruined, without house, without entrance. It is revealed to them from the land of Kittim.
23:2Be still, inhabitants of the coast, trader of Sidon crossing the sea; they have filled you.
23:3And by great waters, the seed of Sihor and the harvest of the river Nile was her revenue; and she a mart of nations.
23:4Be ashamed, Sidon, for the sea has spoken, the strength of the sea, saying, I have not travailed, nor brought forth, I have not nourished young men nor raised up virgins.
23:5As the report comes to Egypt, so they shall be grieved at the report of Tyre.
23:6Pass over Tarshish; howl, people of the coast!
23:7Is this your exulting city from days of her old age? Her own feet carry it far away to stay.
23:8Who has purposed this against Tyre, the crowning city, whose merchants are rulers, whose traders are the weighty of the earth?
23:9Jehovah of Hosts has purposed it, to stain the pride of all glory, to bring all the honored of the earth into contempt.
23:10Pass through your land as the Nile, O daughter of Tarshish; there is no more strength.
23:11He stretched His hand over the sea; He shook kingdoms. Jehovah has made a decree against the merchant city , to destroy its forts.
23:12And He said, You shall rejoice no more, oppressed one, virgin daughter of Sidon. Arise, cross over to Cyprus, even there is no rest to you.
23:13Behold, the land of the Chaldeans! This people did not exist! Assyria founded it for those who live in the desert. They set up their siege towers; they stripped its palaces. They made it a ruin.
23:14Howl, ships of Tarshish! For your fortress is ruined.
23:15And it shall be in that day that Tyre shall be forgotten seventy years, according to the days of one king. At the end of seventy years, it will be as the song of a harlot to Tyre.
23:16Take a harp; go about the city, O forgotten harlot. Do well to play; make many songs, that you may be remembered.
23:17And it will be, after the end of seventy years, Jehovah will visit Tyre; and she shall return to her hire, and will fornicate with all the kingdoms of the earth, on the face of the earth.
23:18And her goods and her wages shall be holiness to Jehovah; it shall not be hoarded nor stored; for her goods shall be for those who dwell before Jehovah, to eat enough, and for a choice covering.
