Isaiah - Chapter: 28


28:1	Woe to the crowne of pride, to the drunkards of Ephraim, whose glorious beauty is a fading flowre, which are on the head of the fat valleys of them that are ouercome with wine.
28:2	Behold, the Lord hath a mightie and strong one, which as a tempest of haile and a destroying storme, as a flood of mightie waters ouerflowing, shall cast downe to the earth with the hand.
28:3	The crowne of pride, the drunkards of Ephraim shall be troden vnder feete.
28:4	And the glorious beautie which is on the head of the fat valley, shall bee a fading flowre, and as the hastie fruite before the summer: which when he that looketh vpon it, seeth it, while it is yet in his hand, he eateth it vp.
28:5	In that day shall the Lord of hosts be for a crowne of glory, and for a diademe of beautie vnto the residue of his people:
28:6	And for a spirit of iudgement to him that sitteth in iudgement, and for strength to them that turne the battell to the gate.
28:7	But they also haue erred through wine, and through strong drinke are out of the way: the priest and the prophet haue erred through strong drinke, they are swallowed vp of wine: they are out of the way through strong drinke, they erre in vision, they stumble in iudgement.
28:8	For all tables are full of vomite and filthinesse, so that there is no place cleane.
28:9	Whome shall he teach knowledge? and whom shall he make to vnderstand doctrine? them that are weaned from the milke, and drawen from the breasts.
28:10	For precept must be vpon precept, precept vpon precept, line vpon line, line vpon line, here a litle, and there a litle.
28:11	For with stammering lips and another tongue will he speake to this people.
28:12	To whom he said, This is the rest wherwith ye may cause the weary to rest, and this is the refreshing, yet they would not heare.
28:13	But the word of the Lord was vnto them, precept vpon precept, precept vpon precept, line vpon line, line vpon line, here a litle and there a litle: that they might goe and fall backward, and be broken, and snared, and taken.
28:14	Wherefore heare the worde of the Lord, yee scornefull men, that rule this people which is in Ierusalem.
28:15	Because ye haue said, Wee haue made a couenant with death, and with hell are we at agreement, when the ouerflowing scourge shall passe thorow, it shall not come vnto vs: for wee haue made lies our refuge, and vnder falsehood haue we hid our selues:
28:16	Therefore thus saith the Lord God, Beholde, I lay in Zion for a foundation, a stone, a tryed stone, a precious corner stone, a sure foundation: hee that beleeueth, shall not make haste.
28:17	Iudgement also will I lay to the line, and righteousnesse to the plummet: and the haile shall sweepe away the refuge of lyes, and the waters shall ouerflow the hiding place.
28:18	And your couenant with death shalbe disanulled, and your agreement with hell shall not stand; when the ouerflowing scourge shall passe thorough, then yee shalbe troden downe by it.
28:19	From the time that it goeth forth, it shall take you: for morning by morning shall it passe ouer, by day and by night, and it shalbe a vexation, onely to vnderstand the report.
28:20	For the bed is shorter, then that a man can stretch himselfe on it: and the couering narrower, then that he can wrap himselfe in it.
28:21	For the Lord shall rise vp as in mount Perazim, he shalbe wroth as in the valley of Gibeon, that he may doe his worke, his strange worke; and bring to passe his act, his strange act.
28:22	Now therefore be yee not mockers, lest your bands be made strong: for I haue heard from the Lord God of hostes a consumption euen determined vpon the whole earth.
28:23	Giue yee eare, and heare my voyce, hearken and heare my speach.
28:24	Doth the plowman plow all day to sow? doth he open and breake the clods of his ground?
28:25	When hee hath made plaine the face thereof, doth he not cast abroad the fitches, and scatter the cummin, and cast in the principall wheate, and the appointed barly and the rye in their place?
28:26	For his God doth instruct him to discretion, and doth teach him.
28:27	For the fitches are not threshed with a threshing instrument, neither is a cart wheele turned about vpon the cummin: but the fitches are beaten out with a staffe, and the cummin with a rodde.
28:28	Bread corne is bruised; because he will not euer be threshing it, nor breake it with the wheele of his cart, nor bruise it with his horsemen.
28:29	This also commeth forth from the Lord of hostes, which is wonderfull in counsell, and excellent in working.

28:3	They shall be troden vnder foote, euen the crowne and the pride of the drunkards of Ephraim.
28:4	For his glorious beautie shall be a fading floure, which is vpon the head of the valley of them that be fatte, and as the hastie fruite afore sommer, which when hee that looketh vpon it, seeth it, while it is in his hand, he eateth it.
28:5	In that day shall the Lord of hostes be for a crowne of glory, and for a diademe of beautie vnto the residue of his people:
28:6	And for a spirite of iudgement to him that sitteth in iudgement, and for strength vnto them that turne away the battell to the gate.
28:7	But they haue erred because of wine, and are out of the way by strong drinke: the priest and the prophet haue erred by strong drinke: they are swallowed vp with wine: they haue gone astraye through strong drinke: they faile in vision: they stumble in iudgement.

28:9	Whome shall he teache knowledge? and whome shall he make to vnderstand the thinges that hee heareth? them that are weyned from the milke, and drawen from the breastes.
28:10	For precept must be vpon precept, precept vpon precept, line vnto line, line vnto line, there a litle, and there a litle.
28:11	For with a stammering tongue and with a strange language shall he speake vnto this people.
28:12	Vnto whome hee saide, This is the rest: giue rest to him that is weary: and this is the refreshing, but they would not heare.
28:13	Therefore shall the worde of the Lord be vnto them precept vpon precept, precept vpon precept, line vnto line, line vnto line, there a litle and there a litle, that they may goe, and fall backward, and be broken, and be snared, and be taken.
28:14	Wherefore, heare the worde of the Lord, ye scornefull men that rule this people, which is at Ierusalem.
28:15	Because ye haue said, We haue made a couenant with death, and with hell are we at agreement: though a scourge runne ouer, and passe through, it shall not come at vs: for we haue made falshood our refuge, and vnder vanitie are we hid,
28:16	Therefore thus saith the Lord God, Behold, I will laye in Zion a stone, a tried stone, a precious corner stone, a sure foundation. Hee that beleeueth, shall not make haste.
28:17	Iudgement also will I laye to the rule, and righteousnesse to the balance, and the haile shall sweepe away the vaine confidence, and the waters shall ouerflowe the secret place.
28:18	And your couenant with death shalbe disanulled, and your agreement with hell shall not stand: when a scourge shall runne ouer and passe through, then shall ye be trode downe by it.
28:19	When it passeth ouer, it shall take you away: for it shall passe through euery morning in the day, and in the night, and there shalbe onely feare to make you to vnderstand the hearing.
28:20	For the bed is streight that it can not suffice, and the couering narowe that one can not wrappe himselfe.
28:21	For the Lord shall stand as in mount Perazim: hee shall be wroth as in the valley of Gibeon, that he may do his worke, his strage worke, and bring to passe his acte, his strange acte.
28:22	Nowe therefore be no mockers, least your bondes increase: for I haue heard of the Lord of hostes a consumption, euen determined vpon the whole earth.
28:23	Hearken ye, and heare my voyce: hearken ye, and heare my speach.
28:24	Doeth the plowe man plowe all the day, to sowe? doeth he open, and breake the clots of his ground?
28:25	When he hath made it plaine, wil he not then sowe the fitches, and sowe cummin, and cast in wheat by measure, and the appointed barly and rye in their place?
28:26	For his God doeth instruct him to haue discretion, and doeth teach him.
28:27	For fitches shall not be threshed with a threshing instrument, neither shall a cart wheele be turned about vpon the cummin: but ye fitches are beaten out with a staffe, and cummin with a rod.
28:28	Bread corne when it is threshed, hee doeth not alway thresh it, neither doeth the wheele of his cart still make a noyse, neither will he breake it with the teeth thereof.
28:29	This also commeth from the Lord of hostes, which is wonderfull in counsell, and excellent in workes.


28:1	Wo be vnto the crowne of pride, euen to the droncken people of Ephraim whose great pompe is as a flour that fadeth awaye vpon the head of the valleye of such as be in welth, and are ouerladen with wyne.
28:2	Beholde, ther commeth a vehement and sore daye from the Lorde lyke an vnmeasurable hayle and perellous tempest, euen lyke the force of myghtye and horrible waters, that violentlye beareth downe all thinges.
28:3	The crowne of the pryde of the dronken Ephraemites shalbe troden vnder fote:
28:4	so that the floure of hys fayrenes and bewty, which is in the head of the valley of fatnes, shall fade awaye, as doth an vntimely rype fygg afore heruest. Which whan a man spyeth, he loketh vpon it: and whyle it is yet in his hande, he eateth it vp.
28:5	In the daye shall the Lorde of hostes be the crowne of glory, & diademe of bewtye vnto the residue of his people.
28:6	He wilbe also a spirite of perfyte knowledge to him that sitteth in iudgement, & strength vnto them that turne awaye the battell to the gate of the enemies.
28:7	But they are out of the waye by reason of wyne: yee, farre out of the waye are they thorowe strong drynke. The preste also & the prophet are gone astraye by the meanes of strong drincke, they are dronken wt wyne, they go amisse thorowe strong drincke: they fayle in prophecying & stomble in iudgment.
28:8	For tables are so full of vomyte and fylthines, that no place is cleane.
28:9	Whom then shall such one teach knowledge? And whom shall he make to vnderstonde the thing that he heareth? For they are as ignoraunt as yong children, that are taken from the mylke and are weened.
28:10	For they that be such must haue after one lesson, another lesson: after one commaundement, another commaundement, after one rule another rule, after one instruccion another instruccyon, there a lytle and there a lytle.
28:11	For he that speaketh vnto this people is euen as one that vseth rudenes of spech, and a straunge language. Yf any man saye vnto them:
28:12	lo, this is the rest wherwith ye maye ease hym that is weerye, thys is the refresshinge, they wyll not herken.
28:13	Therfore, the worde of the Lorde (lesson vpon lesson, commaundement vpon commaundement, rule vpon rule, instruccyon vpon instruccion, there a lytle and there a lytle) shall be vnto them an occasyon of stombling that they maye go on, and fall backward, be brused, tangled and snared.
28:14	Wherfore, heare the worde of the Lorde ye mockers, ye that haue rule of this people which is at Ierusalem.
28:15	Because ye haue sayd: we haue made a couenaunt with death, & with hell are we at agrement. And though there go forth a sore plage, it shall nott come vnto vs. For we haue made falshode our refuge, and vnder vanitie are we hid.
28:16	Therfore thus sayth the Lorde God: Beholde, I laye in Sion for a foundation a stone, euen a tryed stone, a precious corner stone, a sure foundation: Whoso beleueth, let hym not be to hastye.
28:17	Iudgment also will I laye to the rule, and righteousnes to the balaunce: so that the hayle shall take awaye your vayne confidence as a broome, and the preuy place of youre refuge shall the waters renne ouer.
28:18	And thus the couenaunt that ye made wt death, shalbe disanulled: and your agrement that ye made with hell, shall not stand. Yee, when the sore plage goeth forth, ye shalbe troden downe vnder it. From the tyme that it goeth forth, it shall take you awaye.
28:19	For early in the mornynge euery daye: yee, both daye & night shall it go thorowe: & when the noyse therof is perceaued, it shall gendre vexation.
28:20	For the bed is narow, and nott large: & the couering so small that a man can not wynde him selfe vnder it.
28:21	For the Lorde shall stonde as in mount Perazim, and shalbe wrothe lyke as in the valley Gibeon, that he maie do his worke, his straung worke & bring to passe his acte, his straunge acte.
28:22	Now therfore se that ye be no mockers, lest your punyshment increace: for I haue heard of the Lorde of hostes, that there shall come a short ende vpon the whole earth.
28:23	Heare ye then, & herken vnto my voyce, considre & pondre my spech.
28:24	Doth not the husbandman plowe all the daie, and openeth & breaketh the clottes of his grounde, that he maye sowe?
28:25	Whan he hath made it playn, will he not spred abrode the fitches, and sowe comyn, & cast in whete by measure, & the appoynted barlye and rye in their place?
28:26	God will instructe hym to haue discretion, euen his God wyll teach hym.
28:27	For fitches shall not be tresshed with an harowe: nether shall a carte whele be brought thorowe the comyn: but the fitches are beaten out with a stafe, and comyn wt a rodd.
28:28	But the seede that bread is made of, is tresshed, though it be not alwaye a thresshing. And the carte whele must be brought ouer it, lest he grynde it with his teth.
28:29	This also commeth of the Lorde of hoostes, which worcketh wt wonderfull wysdome, and bringeth excellent workes to passe.
