Jeremiah - Chapter: 6

>
6:1Come out of Ierusalem, ye stronge chyldren of BenIamin: blowe vp the trompettes ye Tecuytes, set vp a token vnto Bethcaran, for a plage and a greate myserye appeareth out from the North.
6:2I wyll lyken the doughter Sion to a fayre and tendre woman, and to her shall come the shepherdes with theyr flockes.
6:3Theyr tentes shall they pytche rounde about her, and euery one shall fede them that are vnder his hande.
6:4Make battayle agaynst her (shall they saye) Aryse, let vs go vp, whyle it is yet daye. Alas, the daye goeth away, and the night shadowes fall downe:
6:5Aryse: let vs go vp by nyght, & destroye her stronge holdes,
6:6for thus hath the Lorde of hoostes commaunded. Hewe downe her trees, and set vp bulworkes agaynst Ierusalem, for the tyme is come that this cytie must be punysshed: for in her is all maliciousnesse.
6:7Lyke as a condyte spouteth oute waters, so she spouteth out her wickednesse. Robberye & vnrightousnesse is herde in her sorowe and woundes are euer there in my syght.
6:8Amend the (O Ierusalem) lest I withdrawe my hert from the, & make the desolate: & thy land also, that noman dwel in it.
6:9For thus saith the Lorde of hoostes. The residue of Israel shalbe gathered, as the remnaunt of grapes. And therfore turne thyne hande agayne into the basket, lyke the grape gatherer.
6:10But vnto whom shall I speake, whom shall I warne that he maye take hede? Their eares are so vncircumcised, that they maye not heare. Beholde, they take the worde of God but for a scorne, & haue no lust therto.
6:11And therfore, I am so full of thyne indignacyon, (O Lord) that I maye suffre no longer. But shede it out vpon the chyldren that are without, and vpon all yonge men. Yee, the man must be taken presoner with the wyfe, & the aged wyth the crepel.
6:12Theyr houses with theyr landes & wyues shallbe turned vnto straungers, when I stretch out myne hande vpon the inhabitatours of this land, sayeth the Lorde.
6:13For from the leest vnto the most, they hange all vpon couetousnesse, & from the prophete vnto the prest, they go all aboute with falsheed and lyes.
6:14And besyde that, they heale the hurt of my people with swete wordes, sayeng: peace, peace, when there is no peace at all.
6:15Were they ashamed when they hadd commytted abhomynacyon? Trulye nay they be past shame? And therfore they shall fall amonge the slayne, & in the houre when I shall vyset them, they shall be brought downe, sayeth the Lorde.
6:16Thus sayeth the Lord: go into the streates, consydre & make inquisicyon for the olde waye: and yf it be the good and ryght waye, then go therin, that ye maye fynde rest for youre soules. But they saye: we wyll not walcke therin,
6:17and I wyll sett wacthmen ouer you, & therfore take hede vnto the voyce of the trompett. But they saye: we wyll not take hede.
6:18Heare therfore ye Gentyles, & thou congregacyon shalt knowe, what I haue deuysed for them.
6:19Heare thou earth also: behold, I will cause a plage to come vpon this people, euen the frute of their awne imaginacions. For they haue not bene obedient vnto my wordes & to my lawe, but abhorred them.
6:20Wherfore, bryng ye me incense from Saba, & swete smellyng Calamus from farre countrees? Your burnt offerynges dysplease me, & I reioyce not in your sacrifyces.
6:21And therfore thus sayeth the Lorde: behold, I wyll make this people fall, and there shall fall from among them the father wt the chyldren, one neyghboure shall peryshe wyth another.
6:22Thus sayeth the Lord, Beholde, there shal come a people from the North, & a great people shal aryse from the endes of the earth,
6:23with bowes and with dartes shall they be weapened. It is a rough & fearce people, & & an vnmercyfull people, theyr voyce roareth lyke the see, they ryde vpon horses well apointed to the battaill agaynst the, O daughter Sion.
6:24The crye of them haue we herde. Oure armes are feble, heuynesse & sorowe is come vp on vs, as vpon a woman trauelyng with chylde.
6:25Let no man go forth into the felde, let no man come vpon the hye strete: for the swearde and feare of the enemy is on euery syde.
6:26Wherfore, gyrde a sack cloth aboute the (O thou daughter of my people) sprynkle thy selfe wt asshes, mourne & wepe bitterly as vpon thy only beloued sonne. For the destroyer shal sodenly fall vpon vs.
6:27The haue I set for a stronge tower (o thou prophete) & a well fensed wall amonge my people, to seke out and to trye theyr wayes.
6:28For they are all stubberne apostates and fallen awaye, walkinge disceitfully, they are cleane brasse & yron, for they hurt & destroye euery man.
6:29The bellous are brent in the fyre, the leade is not molten, the melter melteth in vayne for the euell is not taken awaye from them.
6:30Therfore do they call them naughty syluer, because the Lorde hath cast them out.

6:1Sones of Beniamyn, be ye coumfortid in the myddil of Jerusalem, and make ye noise with a clarioun in Thecua, and reise ye a baner on Bethecarem; for whi yuel and greet sorewe is seyn fro the north.
6:2Y haue licned the douytir of Sion to a fair womman and delicat.
6:3Scheepherdis and her flockis schulen come to it; thei han piyt tentis in it in cumpas; ech man schal feede hem, that ben vndur his hond.
6:4Halewe ye batel on it. Rise ye togidire, and stie we in myddai. Wo to vs, for the dai is bowid doun, for shadewis ben maad lengere in the euentid.
6:5Rise ye, and stie we in the niyt, and distry we the housis therof.
6:6For the Lord of oostis seith these thingis, Kitte ye doun the tre therof, and schede ye erthe aboute Jerusalem; this is the citee of visitacioun; al fals caleng is in the myddis therof.
6:7As a cisterne makith his water coold, so it made his malice coold; wickidnesse and distriyng schal euer be herd ther ynne bifore me, sikenesse and wounde.
6:8Jerusalem, be thou tauyt, lest perauenture my soule go awei fro thee; lest perauenture Y sette thee forsakun, a loond vnhabitable.
6:9The Lord of oostis seith these thingis, Thei schulen gadere til to a racyn, thei schulen gadere the remenauntis of Israel as in a vyner; turne thin hond, as a gaderer of grapis to the bascat.
6:10To whom schal Y speke, and to whom schal Y seie witnessing, that he here? Lo! the eeris of hem ben vncircumcidid, and thei moun not here; lo! the word of the Lord is maad to hem in to dispit, and thei schulen not resseiue it.
6:11Therfor Y am ful of the strong veniaunce of the Lord, and Y trauelide suffrynge. Schede thou out on a litil child with outforth, and on the counsel of yonge men togidere; for a man with his wijf schal be takun, and an eeld man with him that is ful of daies.
6:12And the housis of hem, the feeldis and wyues togidere, schulen go to othere men; for Y schal stretche forth myn hond on the dwelleris of the lond, seith the Lord.
6:13For fro the lesse `til to the grettere, alle studien to auerise; and alle doon gile, fro the profete `til to the preest.
6:14And thei heeliden the sorewe of the douyter of my puple with yuel fame, seiynge, Pees, pees, and no pees was.
6:15Thei ben schent, that diden abhomynacioun; yhe, rathere thei weren not schent bi confusioun, and thei kouden not be aschamed. Wherfor thei schulen falle doun among hem that schulen falle doun; thei schulen falle doun in the tyme of her visitacioun, seith the Lord.
6:16The Lord seith these thingis, Stonde ye on weies, and se ye, and axe ye of elde pathis, which is the good weie; and go ye ther ynne, and ye schulen fynde refreischyng to youre soulis. And thei seiden, We schulen not go.
6:17And Y ordeynede aspieris on you, and Y seide, Here ye the vois of a trumpe. And thei seiden, We schulen not here.
6:18Therfor, hethene men, here ye, and, thou congregacioun, knowe, hou grete thingis Y schal do to hem.
6:19Thou erthe, here, lo! Y schal brynge yuels on this puple, the fruit of her thouytis; for thei herden not my wordis, and castiden awei my lawe.
6:20Wherto bryngen ye to me encense fro Saba, and a tre of spicerie smellynge swetli fro a fer lond? Youre brent sacrifices ben not acceptid, and youre slayn sacrifices plesiden not me.
6:21Therfor the Lord God seith these thingis, Lo! Y schal yyue fallyngis in to this puple, and fadris and sones togidere, a neiybore and kynesman, schulen falle in hem, and schulen perische.
6:22The Lord God seith these thingis, Lo! a puple cometh fro the lond of the north, and a greet folk schal rise togidere fro the endis of erthe.
6:23It schal take an arowe and scheld; it is cruel, and schal not haue merci; the vois therof schal sowne as the see, and thei maad redi as a man to batel schulen stie on horsis ayens thee, thou douyter of Sion.
6:24We herden the fame therof, oure hondis ben `a clumsid; tribulacioun hath take vs, sorewis han take vs as a womman trauelinge of child.
6:25Nyle ye go out to the feeldis, and go ye not in the weie, for the swerd of the enemye, drede in cumpas.
6:26The douytir of my puple, be thou gird with heire, and be thou spreynt togidere with aische; make to thee mourenyng of oon aloone gendrid sone, a bitter weilyng, for whi a wastere schal come sodenli on you.
6:27I yaf thee a strong preuere in my puple, and thou schalt knowe, and preue the weie of hem.

6:30Clepe ye hem repreuable siluer, for the Lord hath cast hem awei.

6:1Come out of Ierusalem, ye stronge childre of BenIamin: blowe vp the trompettes ye Tecuites, set vp a token vnto Bethacarem, for a plage and a greate misery pepeth out from the North.
6:2I will licken the doughter Sion to a fayre and tendre woman, and to her shall come the shepherdes with their flockes.
6:3Their tentes shal they pitch rounde aboute her, and euery one shal fede with his honde.
6:4Make batell agaynst her (shal they saye:) Arise, let vs go vp, while it is yet daye. Alas, the daye goeth awaye, & the night shadowes fall downe:
6:5Arise, let vs go vp by night, and destroye hir stronge holdes,
6:6for thus hath the LORDE of hoostes commaunded. Hew downe hir trees, and set vp bulworkes agaynst Ierusale. This is the cite that must be punished, for in her is all maliciousnes.
6:7Like as a codyte aboundeth in water, eue so this citie aboudeth in wickednes. Robbery and vnrightuousnesse is herde in her, sorow & woundes are euer there in my sight.
6:8Amede the (o Ierusalem) lest I with drawe my herte from the, and make the desolate: & thy londe also, yt no man dwel in it.
6:9For thus saieth the LORDE of hoostes: The residue of Israel shalbe gathered, as the remnaunt of grapes. And therfore turne thine honde agayne in to the ba?ket, like the grape gatherer.
6:10But vnto whom shal I speake? whom shal I warne, that he maye take hede? Their eares are so vncircumcised, that they maye not heare. Beholde, they take the worde of God but for a scorne, and haue no lust therto.
6:11And therfore I am so full of thy indignacion (o LORDE) that I maye suffre no longer. Shed out thy wrath vpon the children that are without, and vpon all yonge men. Yee the man must be taken presoner with the wife, and the aged with the crepel.
6:12Their houses with their londes and wiues shal be turned vnto straungers, whe I stretchout myne hode vpon the inhabitours of this londe, saieth the LORDE.
6:13For from the leest vnto the most, they hange all vpon covetousnes: and from the prophet vnto the prest, they go all aboute with falsede and lyes.
6:14And besyde that, they heale the hurte of my people with swete wordes, sayenge: peace, peace, when there is no peace at all.
6:15Therfore they must be ashamed, for they haue comitted abhominacion. But how shulde they be ashamed, when they knowe nothinge, nether of shame ner good nurture? And therfore they shal fall amonge the slayne, and in the houre when I shall viset them, they shalbe brought downe, saieth the LORDE.
6:16Thus saieth the LORDE: go into the stretes, considre and make inquisicion for the olde waye: and yf it be the good and right waye, then go therin, that ye maye fynde rest for youre soules. (But they saye: we will not walke therin)
6:17and I will set watchmen ouer you, and therfore take hede vnto the voyce of the trompet. But they saye: we will not take hede.
6:18Heare therfore ye Gentiles, and thou congregacion shalt knowe, what I haue deuysed for them.
6:19Heare thou earth also: beholde, I will cause a plage come vpon this people, euen the frute of their owne ymaginacions. For they haue not bene obedient vnto my wordes and to my lawe, but abhorred them.
6:20Wherfore bringe ye me incense from Saba, & swete smellinge Calamus from farre countrees? Youre burnt offeringes displease me, and I reioyse not in youre sacrifices.
6:21And therfore thus saieth the LORDE: beholde, I will make this people fall, and there shal fall from amonge them the father wt the children, one neghboure shal perish with another.
6:22Morouer thus saieth ye LORDE: Beholde, there shal come a people from the North, & a greate people shal arise from ye endes of ye earth,
6:23wt bowes & wt dartes shal they be weapened: It is a rough & fearce people, an vnmerciful people: their voyce roareth like the see, they ride vpo horses wel apointed to ye batell agaynst the, o doughter Sion.
6:24Then shal this crie be herde: Oure armes are feble, heuynes and sorow is come vpon vs, as vpon a woman trauelinge with childe.
6:25Noman go forth in to the felde, no man come vpon the hie strete: for the swearde and feare of the enemie shalbe on euery side.
6:26Wherfore, gyrde a sack cloth aboute the (o thou doughter of my people) sprynkle thy self with a?shes, mourne and wepe bitterly, as vpon thy only beloued sonne: For the destroyer shal sodenly fall vpon vs.
6:27The haue I set for a prouer of my harde people, to seke out and to trye their wayes.
6:28For they are all vnfaithful and fallen awaye, they hange vpon shameful lucre, they are clene brasse and yron, for they hurte and destroye euery man.
6:29The bellous are brent in the fyre, the leade is consumed, the melter melteth in vayne, for the euel is not taken awaye from them.
6:30Therfore shal they be called naughty syluer, because the LORDE hath cast them out.
